"Darker Shades of Elise" is really a pornographic film dressed up as a melodrama. There is certainly something entertaining about watching Elise (played by Becca Hirani) cheat on her boring husband Rick (Tommy Viles) and explore her sexual fantasies with Felix (Arron Blake). Yet there is not one relationship in this movie that is genuine and heartfelt and, therefore, this movie cannot be considered a great erotic film which stretches the boundaries. Instead, this film only has some level of achievement of being a guilty pleasure by showing a few scenes with Becca Hirani taking her clothes off and having sex with different men.

If they were smart, the filmmakers would have realized that their movie could not be anything more than a pornographic flick. Unfortunately, they were not smart at all and made the fatal mistake of adding a whole layer of violence to a film that could have worked fine as a guilty pleasure. I do not always bash movies for their violence, but I do on this occasion for two reasons. First, the film appears to be suggesting that a woman who engages in extramarital affairs deserves to be blackmailed, raped, and subjected to other horrific acts of violence. Such a message is just plain sexist and has no redeeming value whatsoever. Second, the violence comes across as a cynical attempt to make what is frankly a trashy sex film appear serious and important. On that basis, most porn films are far better than "Darker Shades" because at least they acknowledge what they are and do not try to spoil the nudity and gratuitous sex with excessive violence at the end.
  • Unappealing cast - not only how they look, but who their characters are, and what they do. Terrible camera work, neutering whatever was meant to be erotic, or at least titillating. Less nudity, story and production value than in any of the late-night soft-core flicks on Cinemax or Showtime. Or one of those pulp "photography" magazines that provided cheap thrills before Hef delivered Playboy unto us.

This is one of those films where you don't know whether to laugh or cry. There might have been a neat, if unoriginal, film inside - unhappily married woman starts affair, is blackmailed and there's a plot twist at the end; but everything is so badly done that the end result is very poor indeed.

The script is clunky and unbelievable; the London work environment which the plot revolves around is portrayed very unrealistically; some of the acting is very poor. The sex scenes are mechanistic rather than erotic, and not nearly as revealing as the director imagines; there is hardly a drop of sweat. Then towards the end, when events turn violent, the violence is so badly filmed that it appears ridiculous. Throughout, the score makes things worse.

This film went straight to DVD/streaming - never a good sign. Best watched with a lot of drinks and crisps - if at all.
  • What trash has bleached my eyes? The acting is horrendous. I mean, what a pile of nonsense. People clearly get off making these sorts of films, and just think its a whizzy joke. No doubt that some will be amused, but that is just a faze honey - you'll be bored by this one. The photography, the acting, the dialogue... its all just trashy and lacks in any sense of the word 'art'.

This almost makes the 50 shades movie look good ... almost and that as we all know doesn't count. But back to this, that has a familiar story of a woman having fantasies and a sex drive that her other half apparently can't please. You need two tango and two to cheat on someone.

The games she thinks she is playing - well maybe she should have read the rules. Then again not every affair goes down south like that so fast (no pun intended and the literal going south does take a minute or two as the director states in his commentary). Elise has quite some issues - being convincing and making us really care for her is one of those. And that in the face of what she has to go through ... which is horrible no doubt

Omg, acting beyond awful! Terrible attempt to cash in on success.! Deserves a minus 1.

    Warning: Spoilers
The framing in this film is meaningless and haphazard - rarely edits together well. And on that note, the acting, and direction, hand in hand, are equally bad as each other - unconvinced of their content, or the direction to which they are headed in terms of tone.

This film is steeped in kitsch moments, and poorly executed.

And what's even worse is the script - the people represented in this film are shallow, and rarely make sense. Like the ending, why would a victim want her perpetrator's ashes? Why would she want to scatter the ashes after nearly being killed by them?

Its all just sexist trash full of models getting their clothes off and bonking. Would have been better as a genuine adult film production... its that bad.
  • I love Becca Hirani and most of her work but this movie was little more than sexual abuse with a low budget. Very hard to watch start to finish despite her best acting attempt to save it.

Extremely low budget film, terrible acting with a ridiculous and extremely uncomfortable and disgusting storyline.

Bad camera work, acting, cheesy, not erotic. Worst film I have seen for years.
  • This is actually a good film covering subjects which have come to the fore in recent times, such as controlling and abusive behaviour, revenge porn and social media. It tells of how a woman having marriage problems falls under the influence of a tall, dark, handsome stranger and slides down the slippery slope to humiliation and abuse. It should serve as a warning to anyone, especially women who are tempted by the modern trends of finding themselves and exploring their sexuality.

Becca Hirani plays Elise, the woman who finds that the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side of the fence but the real honours should go to Aaron Blake as Felix the photographer who shows a darkness that grows steadily darker - Darker Shades of Felix, maybe. His best scene though is actually on the DVD extras called Goodnight Tessa. It beggars belief that this scene never made onto the final cut. The ending for me was poorly written and weak but overall the film confirms that old adage, be careful what you wish for.
  • Better than the reviews and better than 50 shades darker but what I must object to is the lack of full frontal nudity from the lead we saw her nipples fleetingly compared to a proper nude sex scene from a minor cast member why do the film if you are not willing to go all in,this applies to both the script and the actors.

  • While this film may come across as intreeging at first as this eye burner progressed i wanted to be stabbed like rick. Not only was this traumatic it was cheaply made and clearly wasted its low budget on ugly lingerie that burned my eyes and made me want to be celibate. I am dry like sand. While some perves like felix may get off on it i trueley believe whomever wrote this sickening piece cinematic trauma needs Psychiatric help and is ever so clearly been spending too much time on twitter. I trueley believe Bianca is the true villian not just because she is ginger anyway do not waste your time on this piece of filth #livelaughloverick #justiceforrick #hecandonowrong xx <3.

    Warning: Spoilers
This film is the film that made me realise that I always have to check the reviews firs. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR EROICA NEVER WATCH THIS FILM. Might as well watch p0rn. Acting no camera no sex no storyline no actors no plot no everything no!!! I'm traumatised. This movie made me want to go to therapy I have problems, big ones after this film. I might as well cry myself to sleep after this film. It's horrendous and I hate it. Everyone are cheaters and sociopaths! The fact that Elise was crying that her husband cheated on her is so funny knowing that she was also cheating on him with a dozen guys and it was even filmed and one of them was standing right next to her. There is no logic in this film it's actually amusing. I also hated how close the camera was to her face or the others it looked awful.

TW: rape abuse manipulation death SA everything bad.
  • The film was great, scenes were epic and I don't care about how many mistakes were made during the shots or anything. These people have done an amazing job. If u want to watch some intense stuff, go for it and god the music and song choices in different scenes just perfectly suits the situation. Once again this was an amazing movie.

    HOT
    Warning: Spoilers
At first, I was thinking what am I making myself watch? But shortly after, I was somewhat hot under the collar. If this bunch doesn't press buttons nothing will. They knew how to make things pleasing on the eye. Down side strangely for me is I'd liked to have seen more of Felix rather than the fading abs of her bit on the side.

You could say the acting is below average and Felix (the lead) does what many plastic looking women do these days and stay in touch with her feminine side whilst being as vain as possible, yes that's women, subjective right. Right? Denial. Not really. Flick through Facebook profiles and just about every display picture or recent selfie is either a duck pout or some skin revealing selfie just for attention and approval. In the same new trend or fashion, women online on dating sites or the vast majority mainly use them now for either a fling (not caring they're cheating and not usually being honest with their new snap chat waves of crushes) or for constant approval.

Now where does that fit in with this review? Well the truth is this Felix woman has a devoted husband at first glance, he works to maintain what I can only assume is a very expensive and incredibly unrealistic place in London - luxury and fancy make up at its finest. It's almost like an American movie because they never show real life. London based steamy drama - which by the way is a rare thing. Definitely not a thriller. It's just drama let's face it. Anyway has plenty of what she needs accept one thing, and that's not passion as she makes out, that's an ego boost. Women crave an ego boost and excitement. Until things get out of hand. I mean golden rule for you millennials, never mess on your own doorstep - especially the one your husband works all hours for.

Felix takes bad advice from another girl - who is keen to tell us she prefers men to be hung - thanks girls - and who we see in all her glory early on to lure us in. That's all I'll say in regards to the movie events. But the script isn't bad at all in fact sorry to say it's real life and very fitting. With now twice as many women cheating online or out with their mates as men these days and more women than us men surveyed admitted to being online for no strings when they've already got a partner. But, instead of coming to realise she's doing wrong, she proceeds to play the neglected hard done to card and can't help herself. Meanwhile like as always it's the man that seemingly has to step up and apologise - not that he should - and she's got away with everything she's done. No problem love.

I bet a lot of girls have seen this or heard or it. It's the type they'd advertise relentlessly in cosmo. Woman gets it all and goes wrong. Woman gets eye candy etc. Woman wears stunning clothing. You know that stuff. Fact is a lot of people watch this stuff because they want the eye candy and the fifty shades of moments. Clue in the title. It's about shades of one person who dips her toes in the water to suit herself and her own needs.

But come on. Very pleasing on the eyes. Almost all brunettes in this are gorgeous (no blondes which I'm happy about) and although the scenes are steamy I'd liked even more. But they didn't lose focus on what they were trying to do which is also rare because normally in movies they do and this spoilers the viewing.

Slightly underrated have to say really. Decent pace, not over the top in terms of what you get and not really lacking in anything to be fair. If you watch closer, you'll see tone is quiet and tension builds so that's not the acting at fault. If ever you want to get in the mood or get someone else on your level, watch this.
