The storm impacted the harvest schedule, leaving Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) to search for a new mill. When she rejects an unfair split of the profits from the Boudreaux family, she discovers there is more to the story of their land than originally thought. Nova (Rutina Wesley) encounters issues in her romantic relationship when her girlfriend tries to help her with a prestigious speech, and Charley's values are called into question over Micah's (Nicholas L. Ashe) choice of school. Hollywood (Omar J. Dorsey) again tries to repair his relationship with Aunt Violet (Tina Lifford), and Ralph Angel makes another plea for custody of Blue (Ethan Hutchison).

Nova (Rutina Wesley) and lover Calvin (Greg Vaughan) finally reunite, but their union causes controversy in the community. Davis attempts to repair his relationship with son Micah (Nicholas L. Ashe), but he faces resistance. Aunt Violet (Tina Lifford) learns of Hollywood's (Omar J. Dorsey) departure and tries to make amends, and Ralph Angel makes a shocking discovery that changes everything.

Charley is released from the St. Jo Sheriff's station where she is met by reporters. Elsewhere, Sam Landry gives Violet information about Frances, and his shared past with Violet is revealed. Later, Darla and Ralph Angel discuss their future. The Bordelon family prepare Violet's diner for Charley's election night, and Nova enters the diner with Calvin for the first time. Charley and Micah also share a touching moment. Just as everyone begins to celebrate Charley's victory, they are dealt a devastating and unexpected blow. Though Charley feels redeemed during a meeting with Frances, she later realizes that she's been used by Sam Landry for his personal agenda. Elsewhere, Micah and Keke finally take their relationship to the next level, and Violet and Hollywood visit a storefront space that will be used to launch his support group for men. Finally, the Bordelon family unite in front of Trudy Bordelon's grave, determined to face an uncertain future, together.

Aunt Violet (Tina Lifford) worries about Nova's (Rutina Wesley) safety while Nova tends to the community in the Lower Ninth, and Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) quarrels with Darla (Bianca Lawson) when she arrives unannounced. Plus, Hollywood (Omar J. Dorsey) and Aunt Violet are reunited, and Nova and Charley argue over their different lifestyles.

Charley's (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) relationship with Remy (Dondré T. Whitfield) is threatened when she discovers that a business loan is contingent on the involvement of her estranged husband, Davis (Timon Kyle Durrett). She later sees Davis on a date during her girls' night out with Nova (Rutina Wesley) and Aunt Violet (Tina Lifford), and a confrontation ensues. Micah (Nicholas L. Ashe) is pulled over by a police officer in his expensive new car, and Davis uses his star power to secure his release, which upsets Charley. The concern over Micah pushes Aunt Violet to reach out to Hollywood (Omar J. Dorsey) to finally confess her feelings. Plus, Nova mourns the end of her relationship with Calvin (Greg Vaughan) by seeking comfort with new companions. She also holds a community fundraiser. Later, Darla (Bianca Lawson) reaches a decision about her relationship with Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) and Charley makes a huge personal decision.
