  • Don't be fooled by the shill (fake) reviews posted mid-June on this page - obviously written by people connected with this pitiful excuse for a film. From the get-go the script and acting are of a school play quality, although I've seen school plays better than this drek.

Preposterous, derivative and just plain dumb are words that come to mind. "Black comedy"? "Bleak comedy" more like. It's reminiscent of an especially bad episode of Rosemary and Thyme or whatever interminably cheesy and boring '80s TV series you can think of.

These poor women must have been desperate for a paycheque to sign on for this. Not a laugh in the whole thing, groans of disdain more than anything. OTT acting, ludicrous plot, and thumb on "fast forward" just to make it to the end.

I'm sat here trying to think of one redeeming feature of Dead Fred... Nope, I got nothin'.
  • Seriously all three of the June 2019 reviews are written by newly created single use accounts and which use dsame diction and wording. Imdb pro shows me that the 16 "ten star" ratings so far were all done by IMDB accounts created in June 2019 and with no other activity either. The maker sof this film spent more time shilling and manipulating IMDB than they spent writing the screenplay! The jokes in this are cringeworthy, the acting abysmal.

I am a fan of British films so was glad to find this but it was appalling. Embarrassing to watch and the acting fell far short. Give it a wide birth
  • Was hoping for something in the realm of Waking Ned Devine. Instead looked like someone's high school project. Terrible production, acting and sound. Who compared this to Midsommer Murders?! The jokes were there but they fell with a thud. Might have worked with better delivery, timing, acting etc. Finally turned off after 15 minutes, which was probably 10 minutes too late. Might have been a good premise there, but I'll never know, or care.

Very poorly written and badly acted garbage. Not one laugh in the whole thing.

Was as enjoyable as watching paint dry. Director needs sacking and never letting near the film industry again, sad to know I'll never get that 90 minutes of my life back. Wasn't even anyone called Fred.
  • Just got a feeling it's one of the worst production when watching the first 5 mins, but it getting better right after. I won't say it's top funniest comedy but it's still fun to watch. Desperate housewives idea and not too bad to watch.

Gentle comedy about "mature " ladies. Obviously not to everyone's taste. If you're looking for edge of the seat car chase carnage, blood soaked terror or best buddy heists avoid this movie.

This film was recommended to me by a friend who watched it. A black comedy with heart - I really enjoyed watching. The acting from the 4 mature leads was excellent. Fair enough a bit cheesy in places but it had a gentle charm - even though murder involved. It's not going to be a film for everyone but for the right audience (including me) it is a winner!

A very easy watch. A black comedy about 4 older gals and their problems with their friend's dead husband.

Some great humour and good acting.
  • I saw this film first at a film festival in the UK and had to watch it again.

A film with 4 elderly female leads - and to take a serious subject such as alzheimer's disease and make a black comedy is no mean feat.

This is not a fim with jokes. The humour comes from character and the acting process oozes from these great actresses bones. It did hark back to old Ealing comedies and checking out the film's website I see that this was the intention - so well done to all those involved.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. If it comes to the cinema I will watch it again.
  • Thoroughly enjoyed this film. Fair enough it may not be the most visually stunning film I have seen. But everything was in focus and a really interesting score.

It is a good story and some excellent dialogue. Lots of laughs and great performances - which is what I look for when watching a film.

The two reviews slating this production are way of the mark. If your the type of viewer who likes Map and Lucia, Midsomer Murders or Miss Marple you will find plenty to enjoy here.

One of the doom laden reviewers gets one thing correct, this is a play not a film. Watched with that in mind the performances and delivery make perfect sense. Sure it's gentle and more than a little cheesy but it's done fondly. Like an ode de homage to the classic mystery farces of yesteryear. Capable performances from all but the standout turn here is Sandra Dickinson. Delivering some of the best laugh out loud lines in the film with top acting chops.

A friend recommended this film and what a blast. A change to see 4 mature women in the lead roles and great performances. A black comedy with a difference. I loved it.

This was an excellent way to spend an evening. Interesting characters and a subject which should not be funny but the cast of professional actresses brought this film to life.

I understand it was a low budget film - but I wouldn't not have know this as so good.

I will be watching it again
  • Really enjoyed this low budget black comedy. A great script and Awarding Winning Performances from the cast. What a welcome change to see a story centered around four older woman and their challenges in life. It was a homage to old classics such as Arsenic and Old Lace and The Ladykillers - with four strong female ensemble leads. I remember Sandra Dickinson in the '80's in shows such as Hitchhickers Guide to the Galazy etc. She had a breathy voice - but no more she played the role of Georgeanne as an almost butch character with perfect comic timing.

This is not going to be a film for everyone - but it certainly was for me. An ideal film for a rainy day - with lots of laughs which came from the actual characters rather than jokes.
  • Really enjoyed the screening of Dead Fred at Lymington. It is an hilarious black comedy but it also has heart. Great performance s from the cast.
  • Considering this was a low budget feature slapstick black comedy, it has some fabulous attributes. The cinematography and setting captures the atmosphere enhanced by the jazzy music score.

The comedy takes one back to the old days so anyone expecting the modern touch or is unfamiliar with earlier humour, may not get the intention of this film. It's the old-fashioned humour that brings a certain charm with this film together with the cast and the way the film is beautifully crafted. Recommended.
  • Dead Fred exceeded my expectations. The story kept me engrossed to the last minute making me laugh (a lot) and almost cry too. A great ensemble piece with terrific performances from everyone but especially the four main leads. I could happily watch it again and will if I get the chance!
  • I've been looking forward to seeing this film and it didn't disappoint. The women friends were totally convincing with sparkling banter and lots of hilarious moments. An unexpected plot and beautiful locations and photography completed what is a triumph for the filmmakers.
  • I really enjoyed this film which reminded me of older style comedies. Yes, it won't appeal to all and probably a very much love or hate - but I was definitely in the love category.

Some great acting from seasoned actresses and I notice looking at the website that won a Best Ensemble Cast a film festival which was well deserved.

It's the sort of film I will be watching again.

Sat and watched with my mother. Really enjoyed this. Perfect Sunday movie. Great performances by the cast.

    Nice easy watch. Loved it.

A serious subject which made me laugh. We have all known an eccentric character such as 'Judy'. Laughed and I cried. Will definitely watch again. Some creating acting

Just seen this was made on a low budget which is why I have given it a 10. It was well worth watching. Such a great cast and shows what can be achieved on a lower budget. Much better than some of the rubbish which comes out. This film had character and heart and was funny.

It is not going to be a film which will probably interest younger people but as an 'older' woman I could really appreciate what these 'gals' got up to.

    Well worth watching.
  • I stumbled across this litle gem on Amazon Prime. It is a low budget British dark comedy. Some great acting - especially from Sandra Dickinson who I remeber from the 1980's and Jane How. It tackled a difficult subject with humour and I laughed a lot.

This film won't be for everyone and is probably aimed at an older female audience but my husband also thoroughly enjoyed it.
