  • Michael Bolton was HUGE in the 1980s and 90s. However, in recent years he's been a lot less visible....so Netflix giving him a holiday special just seems weird and out of left field...which, now that I think about it is a great way to describe this show!

When the story begins, Santa informs Michael that he has too many toys to give away this year. After telling Michael NOT to murder the elves as a solution, he gets the singer to agree to help by getting people to procreate like mad so they'll have enough kids to give all those extra toys to in 10 months! What follows are a bunch of weird acts as well as Bolton himself singing a few numbers. All of it weird and surreal....very, very surreal!

This is a very enjoyable show...provided you DON'T watch it with your kids. It's all about sex and much of what you hear is very crude....very adult. And, I can also guarantee many adults won't like it because it is so bizarre and off the wall. Sure...a few skits fall flat...but when it works, it works very well. However, if you are an adult and like the mega-weird, give this funny show a look! And, if possible, watch it with someone you love.
  • Michael Bolton is great in this special. If one loves Michael Bolton, you will love this. His singing is still amazing! Some of the skits are really funny (Carl Flossy), while some drag on a little too long (Cupid Shuffle). Just go into it with an open mind.

After Santa tells Michael Bolton that he needs 75,000 new babies by Christmas to meet toy supply, Michael Bolton hosts a sexy telethon to get the world to start making love.

While there are some duds within this special (notably the "cupid shuffle" skit), this really is a fine attempt at a comeback for Michael Bolton. His new association with Lonely Island and this funny, movie-loving version of himself is perfect. Whether it was him or Samberg who developed it, it works.

Not coincidentally, many of the songs performed by Bolton also appear on his newest album. On this, he covers some of the classic movie songs... which again raises the question, is this sincere, or part of an elaborate ruse?

This is a special starring Michael Bolton about him saving Christmas by getting 75,000 babies conceived on Valentine's Day with his wonderful and angelic voice. It is very entertaining all throughout, even when he sings a slower song. I enjoyed this a lot. If you like the Lonely Island, the Birthday Boys, and shows like Tim and Eric and the Mr. Show, I'm positive you'll like it. It's meant to be that way. If you look in the credits Akiva of the Lonely Island produced and directed this, Jorma, Andy, and the Birthday Boys have parts in it, and three members of the Birthday Boys wrote it. So it really just makes sense. I'm not saying if you don't like these you won't enjoy it because that's not true. You may only like it a little bit and that's okay. But if you like the kinda off, weird, but funny humor this is for you. Plus it has a lot of great celebrity cameos and great performances (acting and musically wise.) Michael Bolton's voice is amazing in this too. You might want to watch this if you like Michael Bolton (how could you not?!?-unless you're the Michael Bolton from Office Space.) I recommend this highly. Now go get love making to this on Valentine's day or else Christmas will be ruined.

The wife and I were greeted with the big splash landing page for Michael Bolton's Big, Sexy Valentine's Day Special and thought to ourselves, "What in the ever-loving-hell-of-Netflix-original-programming?!?!?!?!" I would've passed on this without a second thought. Especially after the disastrous Bill Murray Christmas Special. However, seeing the minds behind Comedy Bang Bang & Lonely Island attached to this piqued my curiosity. That and the Boltron (aka, Michael Bolton) popped up–with some surprising comedic chops–on Honest Trailer's Willy Wonka episode recently released on YouTube.

So we let 'er rip... {spoilers ahead} It starts of with a music number about Valentine's Day being 10 months away and that "that's what Valentine's Day means to me." That opening, in and of itself, made me start putting on cringy-change-it-pants. Then Santa shows up with the news that his Elves have made too many toys and he needs Michael's help. I was in mid eye-roll when Michael Bolton pulls out a hand-cannon and offers to take out Santa's Elves. This was the first sign of great things to come. Sufficed to say, this brilliant special quickly had me pissing in cringy-change-it-pants.

The best thing about it is the pacing. The writing constantly veers Bolton towards cliché sappy TV special territory, only to be railroaded by the surreal and outlandish. Each little bi lasting just long enough to set up the premise and get the laughs rolling before jumping onto the next. The "Punks have arrived in the studio" bit is a great example of this. Bolton starts in on a head scratching rendition of "Old Time Rock-n-Roll" to prove he's cool to a group of punk rockers, complete with a 50's diner set and Tom Cruise in Risky Business backup dancers. You barely have time to process the weird little things going on (like him pointing to floating framed guitars during guitar solos, not drinking the milkshake, playing air piano above the keyboard, a guy in a weird black foam suit playing saxophone) before it cuts to a behind-the-scenes dress rehearsal clip. The insane choreographer Carl Flossy (played by Michael Sheen) walks a confused Bolton through the inexplicable routine we just witnessed, delving deeper into madness until cutting back to the routine in progress. Bloody brilliant! My favorite skit has to be Maya Rudolph's musical meta masterpiece "Key Change." Once I understood the joke that was unfolding, I absolutely lost it. We watched this one 3 times.

If you have any love for ludicrous sketch comedy, you'll love this!
  • Have you waited for another great musical special produced by Netflix? Another A Very Murray Christmas? You should keep waiting. Even your memories of Michael Bolton and his hairy chest at the sun-setting beach with running horses are sexy (in 80s way), this isn't even a big or a sexy thing. This is some kind of goofy sketch show interrupted by Micheal Bolton songs. Even the mission was very optimistic.

MBBSVDS wants to help Santa to secure conceived 75k newborns for upcoming Christmas. But I know one thing - Sorry Michael, only newly- made-kids will be when people choose not to watch this show and rather have simple sex.

    2 stars only for songs.

    Amazing
Had to create an IMDB account just to review this amazing movie. It was pure comedy gold and let's be honest no one can get enough Michael Bolton in their lives 😉

What a piece of garbage . I felt like I was watching the twilight zone or Micheal Bolton on Mad tv. A very low brow comedy musical special . You would never catch a real singer like Nat King Cole or tony Bennett lowering their standards like this . Bolton must be desperate for money . Micheal Boltons music and this vulgar comedy don't mix. After watching these gratuitously vulgar comedy sketches his music cannot be taken seriously . His parents and children should be embarresed and ashamed of this trash . No wonder he's a musical has been.
  • This is one of the funniest bits of television I've ever seen. Ridiculous. Hilarious. Who knew Michael Bolton could be so funny? Who knew something so ridiculous would become our holiday tradition? Not me.

I can only assume that someone watched the Captain Jack Sparrow skit and decided to reach out to Michael about this fever dream of a script. It's bananas. Random visits from 80s and 90s stars mixed with todays comedy personalities. And the skits? Old Time Rock.and Roll? Michael Sheen, you almost made me break a rib. Is it stupid? Yes. Ridiculous? Absolutely. Is it far funnier than it should be. Watch and laugh.
  • What a smart writing and direction. On 2 occasions I really laughed out loud and there were cringy moments as well also absurdity at it's best.

There isn't much to say about this film, it's simply spectacular and hilarious.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Michael Bolton is the funniest thing in this, the jokes are o.k. But he is hilarious taking the absolute water out himself and his image, fast forward the chocolates gag and pretty much all of the bits that aren't Bolton his boudoir art made me howl. He should have made more but with people who are actually funny not this lot, the jokes go on too long and aren't funny.
  • This is hilarious. So bad that it's so good.

This had become my boyfriend's and I new valentine's tradition. We watched it last year and swore we would watch it every valentine's. So far he haven't make any babies but we sure try thanks to Michael bolton's inspiration.
