Margot at the Wedding
(2007)

A cold and distant character study
Margot at the wedding is Baumbach at his most cynical and dark. Every character is cold and distant from each other and there is rage building up in each character up until the end where is explodes.

I personally find Noah Baumbach to be one of the finest directors/writers working today and he is one of my personal all time favorites. I especially love the squid and the whale and this seems to be very similar to that compared to films like Frances ha or while we are young. The cinematography is similar and it also has the same messy Goddard like editing here but more later back, somewhat representing the characters. Every moment here is full of anger and tension. Baumbach does not try in any way to make this film a "pleasant experience" but that's not the point and I think if he tried to comfort the audience it would ruin the point of the film.

Similar to many other of his works, Margot at the wedding depicts its characters in an extremely honest way and never holds back. I love pretty much everything about this film. The dry/dark humor is great and fits perfectly along with the great somewhat detached cinematography. The acting here is all amazing(even though there are a few moments where the child acting could be improved, overall it was still good). Jack black is surprisingly amazing here and finds a way to make his character more pathetic than he already is. Nicole Kidman and jenifer Jason lee bring an extra level of honesty to their characters, that just works so well.

I think this is one of Baumbach's most underrated and I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy the squid and the whale like I do.

9/10.

Solar Opposites
(2020)

Not disappointed.👍
When I went into this I was worried it would be too similar to rick and morty and even though there are definitely similarities(animation, voices, writing style) it still manages to be its own.

This show is very funny and entertaining. And if your a fan of rick and morty(which I am guessing you are) definitely give this a watch.

Honey Boy
(2019)

One of the more underrated films of 2019.
This is an amazing film that no one has been talking about which is a shame cause I believe this to be one of the best films of last year.

This film contains an amazing child performance by Noah Jupe and this is also a very personal film from Shia labeouf who proves himself has not only a great actor but also a great storyteller. Anyway I strongly recommend this I don't want to say much more cause I know most people haven't seen it. So do yourself a favor and go on amazon prime and check this out!

The Invisible Man
(2020)

A very good horror film
Let me start off by saying one of the best things about this film is the great performance from Elisabeth Moss. Another reason to go see this film is because of the director who previously made upgrade in 2018 which was also pretty good and in this film he uses visuals to guide you through a lot of the film, mainly using some cool camera movements. And of course the horror and it works even though I wasn't frightened by the film it was very intense and this film had a very dislike able villain. Anyway ignoring my one small issue with the film I recommend you go see this in theaters.

The Irishman
(2019)

A thoughtful gangster film
This film is 3 hours 30 minutes and yes it's similar to goodfellas but what makes this film different is it's ending.

The last 30 - 40 minutes of this film has a different take on gangster films has it doesn't just portray these people has criminals but shows them has people who have to make difficult decisions that affect how they live and how they think. Also the film has strong messages about growing older and regret and we get this later in the film when the main character tries to make his relationship with his family right again. Anyway when you have nothing going on check this out.

1917
(2019)

I'm not usually a fan of war films
Watching this film in theaters is an experience and quite the experience. This film is made to look like it was shot in one-take and is used at its most effectively and brings you into the film even more creating one of the most intense films you'll see this year. Of course you can't talk about this film without talking about the cinematography by Roger Deakins, it's just gorgeous and makes the film even better! Also not much people have been talking about the leading performance which basically leads the film. Anyway if you haven't seen this already do yourself a favor and go see it!

Terminator: Dark Fate
(2019)

This movie was dumb
Its what I should've expected but since I like the first 2 so much I still got excited for it I guess Mackenzie Davis was good along with Linda Hamilton. Anyway don't see it.

Joker
(2019)

A good film but a little overrated. Mild Spoilers!
The best part of this movie is Joaquin Phoenix's performance and that dc is trying to make a original film. So here are my issues I think that connecting this to the Bruce Wayne story defeated the original aspect of the film also when they reveal that Zazie Beetz character didn't actually date Arthur it made sense but then they show us a tone of flashbacks , this movies rated r so I'm thinking that the adults that saw this would already know that but the film choses to treat its audience like babies. Finally this is not one of the top 50 films of all time I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense that puts it ahead of films it's ripped off like the king of comedy and taxi driver. Any way that being said its still a decent film.

Avengers: Endgame
(2019)

An alright movie
This was a entertaining film that did its job and nothing more than that and really there's not that much to say about it. I am a fan of the comics and used to be a big fan of the movies until they just became kind of forgettable. Also there are a lot of plot holes in it but if you wanna here about those I recommend a film review channel called yms that describes it. Anyway go see it if your a fan.

Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker
(2019)

This did not feel like a conclusion.
Since Rian Johnson directed the last Jedi and changed the original plans set up in the force awakens this film tried to cram in a uneven rushed finale. The way they handled Carrie fisher (R.I.P)was not done well either and you could tell they were repeating the same deleted scene over and over again. Any way if you don't see this your not missing out.

The Revenant
(2015)

This film can't be described in words!
The director of bird man has done it again! This is a brutal film that also manages to be beautiful and beautifully shot full of long takes and natural lighting. This film is extremely immersive and all the acting was great including a performance from Tom hardy (where he's not wearing something over his face) who is on par with Leo! Anyway if you love filmmaking check this out!

The Lighthouse
(2019)

A original piece of art supported by great acting!
This film contains one of the single most immersive atmospheres and career best performances by Robert Pattinson and of course Willem Dafoe(who was robbed of an Oscar nomination and honestly should've won). The film even surpasses the directors previous film the witch 2015 which was also great! I'm not gonna say any more just do yourself a favor and go seek it out!
