Nope
(2022)

It is not your typical UFO movie....
When I first so movie trailers for Nope, I was really intrigued and wanted to see it. Then, I started to read some of the reviewers' comments and it put a chill on that. I finally decided to see it and was pleasantly surprised. It is a slow burner, by all means, but very interesting. It might not be your thing if you expect lots of fireworks, blood and gore. However, if you just want to sit down, sip your cup of favorite beverage. In any case, if you are like me, give it a try. You might (like myself) pleasantly surprised.

DMZ
(2022)

Not what I thought it would be.....
After reading a short synopsis about the premise of this show, I was intrigued and thought I would give it a try. All I can say is BORING. 1 star that's me being generous. In my opinion it's a big dud. I am not sure if they only planned for four episodes but it's four episodes too many.

The Matrix Resurrections
(2021)

Did we watch the same movie?
Looking at some of the reviews I wonder if we watched the same movie. I understand that people want to see big fireworks, martial arts moves out of this world using wires for areal pirouettes and somersaults, etc but to me this movie was on a different level as it was posing philosophical questions of existence and reality. I am going to leave it at that.

I really enjoyed it.

Lost in Space
(2018)

Started very well but finished with a whimper....
I liked a lot 1st and 2nd seasons of this show. It seemed like ages before the third season was released. Maybe my expectations were too high but the third season for me is a complete write off. The series would have been much better off if they stopped on the second season.

To me, at least, the 3rd season is all over the place, feels unfinished. Too bad. Netflix spoiled it on the last lap.

The Wheel of Time
(2021)

Apple TV over-hyped show
Looking at some other reviews, I think I was too generous with 4 stars. But given some nice visual effects, I think that this rating is deserved. Other than that, being into episode 5 and still not knowing what exactly is going on, the show is BORING. Yes, I put it in caps for the dramatic effect.

This show is unmemorable and you could spend your time well elsewhere.

Altered Carbon
(2018)

Wow! But it took me to give it a second chance....
When "Altered Carbon" first came out on Netflix, I could not make it through the first episode and I stopped watching it. It was too confusing it seemed in the beginning. So I gave it a second try after a couple of years and I literally was hooked on it form start to finish through the first and second season. I do not understand some reviewers complaining about the second season because to me it was just as good as the first.

I only wished there was a third season because the story was really picking up. Netflix is known for cancellations of great series and "Altered Carbon" was one of them. Such a shame.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
(2021)

Marvel, what did I just watch???
I gave it 5 stars but I think it is still too generous. It has become very obvious that a shift took place in Marvel universe that no longer promotes pure American but rather it panders now to various multi letter groups as well as its new master: China.

If I did know any better, I would think that this movie was made in Hong Kong (minus visual effects). I don't know who they made this movie for but I am sure it is not the American viewer. I come to think about it, it seems to me more and more it was made to pander Chinese market....

American Insurrection
(2021)

Up-side-Down world
If there was a negative value available to rate this movie, I would give it less than 0. The premise of this movie is so absurd that it deserves to be thrown immediately in a dustbin of history.

The Tomorrow War
(2021)

It's a great movie, but...
The only reason why I gave this movie only 9 out of 10 starts is due to lack of originality. Don't take me wrong, the movie is great, action is face paced and you never get bored in spite of 2.5 hours. However, if you look a bit closer you will see motives from the following movies: 1. The Thing (space ship crash landed in the ice).

2. Starship Troopers (finding the "leading" brain bug to conquer the invaders).

3. Edge of Tomorrow. This movie was ahead of its times and I think Tom Cruse did not get enough credit for it.

In spite all of this, it is a great flick and you will not waste your time watching it, in my humble opinion. Chris Pratt is great in this role as usual so no much to add there. You will enjoy it.

Helix
(2014)

I know why it was cancelled....
After giving it a second go, it finally dawned on me what they cancelled this show. After first, very good season, the second one is simply unwatchable. The constant flashbacks back and forth with seemingly disjoined story lines make it for a one confusing season. What a shame. This show had such a great promise in season 1 only to be squandered in season 2 and ultimately to be cancelled. What were they thinking?

Tanki
(2018)

Approach this movie with an open mind.... and you will actually enjoy it
I am not sure why some of the reviewers gave it 1 star and were bashing it. I think they and I were watching two different movies. Some points to make: 1. The movie is based on a historical event documented in Russian archives. So, there goes a "fairy tale" title of one of the reviews. 2. Even if a movie tries to adhere to known facts, some "artistic" freedom is given so it is entertaining. In my opinion, it was very well balanced and was enjoyable to watch. 3. It shows shortcomings of a centrally managed economy (top down) where bureaucrats ALWAYS stand in the way of progress and human nature ALWAYS finds a way to work around it.

I enjoyed this movie and if you give it a chance, you will too.

Tenet
(2020)

What did I just watch????
I think that giving this movie 5 stars is generous. I will not mention horrible audio edit done on this movie as you can read about it in almost every other review (clue: too loud. My head was pounding. The score VERY loud while dialogues were on a quiet side).

The movie was slow, in spite of very fast action sequences (seems like a paradox but it's true). You know when movie is bad when you start nervously looking at your watch counting minutes to the end of the movie. 150 minutes - WAY too long.

To be frank, I am not sure how this movie could be fixed as it was very hard to follow. I think that with "Tenet", Nolan jumped the shark.

El hoyo
(2019)

One word: gross
I am not sure what other who rate this move so high see it in. Nothing original and simply disgusting. Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers!! If cannibalism passes now for something that warrants a 7.9 rating for Netflix production, there is something fundamentally wrong with our society. You can put a lipstick on a pig, but it still will be a pig. In case of this movie, we would do actual injustice comparing the two.

See
(2019)

Nothing to "See" here - great disappointment
It appears there is a trend this past year to create movies/series revolving around a vision handicap, blindness. Frankly I don't understand this infatuation. I really tried to give a try but the series i plain boring. There is really not much else to say here. You know what they say, if you have nothing good to say about someone/something, say nothing. This would apply handsomely to "See".

Ellipse
(2019)

Don't believe everything you read in reviews about this movie
As the subject line states, do not believe everything you read about this movie. I don't think it deserves the bashing it gets. I sort of liked it. The movie is a bit quirky and because it is Sci-Fi, hey, I am a sucker for it. It is not your big budget movie but it is not bad. It's not just watchable but actually, I think it was good. The story is interesting as well. The only caution I would give would be it is a slow pace movie, so if you expect a fast paced action flick with lot's of shooting and flashes, this movie is not for you. If, however, you don't mind taking it slowly and absorbing the story as intended, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Aladdin
(2019)

Musical - enough said
I was able to get over the fact that Will Smith was a genie but to see and hear him sing that was a bridge too far. What a waste of time.

Light of My Life
(2019)

One word: SLOW
I am not sure why people are giving 8/10. I believe that 3 is a generous rating. Half way through the movie I was bored out of my wits. "Slow burn" as some describe it would be a life threatening race in comparison with what was dished out to us in this movie. Long and windy monologues almost put me to sleep.

This would be better suited for a theater than a move.

Kurier
(2019)

An overall excellent historical movie....
I was born and lived in Poland until I was 22. Then, in 1989 I left just before the fall of the Berlin wall. This movie presented me with a part of Polish WWII history that was never taught to me by either the socialist state or here in the West, our "allies". This movie makes you think "what if.." and presents a part of history which could be considered by some taboo, something we should not speak of.

The truth is Poland was used as pawn in WWI, promised alliance by the West (twice) and then, abandoned to Soviets when the Polish problem became inconvenient to deal with Stalin. As I said, many "what ifs" were brought by this film in my mind and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to know more beyond the established "history".

Time Trap
(2017)

Old formula in a new package...
If you watched "Time Machine" the original and the follow up movies, you will recognize parallels to the original in this movie as well. It is a surprising good and solid Sci-Fi movie, however, I enjoyed to watch. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Sci-Fi.

What Happened to Monday
(2017)

A unique glimpse into a liberal mind and "utopia"
I did not think much about this movie until I saw it. It gives us a glimpse into the mind of modern day progressive/liberal/marxist and their goal of population control.

Caller ID
(2010)

What was that?
I am a fan of Sci-FI, Horror, and Thrill flicks but after watching this title, all I got to ask is this: "What were you thinking???". Really.

The Orville: Primal Urges
(2019)
Episode 2, Season 2

Go back to basics
If "Primal Urges" is any indication of where The Orville is going, I think I will be ditching this series. It had lots of promise and potential in season 1 but the second episode of second season was simply disgusting. For the love of God, why do you keep on pushing LGBT agenda in everything you do? It's a complete turn off. If this is no longer a Sci Fi series, than I will be throwing it into the dustbin of irrelevance.

Aquaman
(2018)

A completely entertaining flick....
If you read the critics, it almost sounds like this movie is horrible and not worthy of your time. My mantra for this movie (like for many others) is: do not listen to others. Go and watch it for yourself. Only after you experienced the movie, only then you can have an informed decision about it. If I wanted to be treated to a philosophical debate about a meaning of life or culture, I would not go to a movie theater. I would read books. A movie is an 'escape' from reality, an entertainment so to speak in order to decompress. Aquaman does just that. It's pure entertainment topped with stunning visual effects. To see the underwater city is worth alone to give it a try.

Britannia
(2017)

I got 5 words for you...
This show grows on you - these are the 5 words I have for you, really. It starts off sort of slow but then it engages you, draws you in. If you like the Roman period and Druids, this show is definitely for you.

Nightflyers
(2018)

It's not your "Nightflyers" novella, it's much more...
There is something going on at SyFy channel because they are coming up with some excellent quality Si-Fi series. First "Dark Matter", then, "The Expanse", and now "Nightflyers".

A word of warning, though. If you come to look for any similarities between the 1987 "Nightflyers" movie or a novella it is loosely based on, you might be disappointed. However, this is because of that why this series is so great. And it is getting better with every passing episode. Don't miss it. You will enjoy it.
