  • While it is always inspiring to watch a movie which shows underdogs coming out as champions, what was refreshing was a dance form that we dont often see in India. Although the movie was filled with cliches and there was a lot of things going on simultaneouslywith the central characters, but all was handled well and there was some humor in the way the characters reacted to the situations they found themselves in. All in all it was a refreshing watch.
  • Ballet in india??? This may seem like an attempt to set new horizons by breaking a stereotype gender based drama .. but as a matter of fact it is a true fairytale that is fictionalized at few places, does have some run of the mill segments but it is thirst-quenching .. directed by Salaam Bombay and The Namesake screen writer Sooni Taraporevela returning to film making after a long hiatus and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapoor.. a must see...
  • Yeh Ballet has something in common with both the above films. Poor slum boys making big because of their talent. But the film does something new. By now we are used to watching poor boys dancing on screens and making big (in every other reality show), but never have a film ever brought two male dancers performing ballet.

Based on true story, this film tries to follow every cliche available in Bollywood's film making text book for dance movies. Angry father, talented kids, drama, a white face (for drawing in the audience -- as said by one of the characters himself) giving international validation. This film have everything. The only thing which doesn't have is a good screenplay. Perhaps in terms of story this is a good film (maybe because it is based on true story, because nothing beats that) but the screenplay which has been written on top of it is a big let down. I am not sure how Netflix is not bothered by its poor choice of acquisitions recently.

All the films follow one single pattern. Poor script. Poor dialogues. Poor editing (in the case of Yeh Ballet, straight out bad). And poor direction.

Although the casting of this film is quite good. The young New comers are a breath of fresh air. And good dancers.

Overall this film is not bad. But could have been lot better if executed well in the writing or the editing rooms.

The story is about two boys from the Mumbai slums with a passion to dance. Both live in terribly poor conditions and have to fight their families, society and poverty to learn ballet from a renowned teacher from Israel.

The story is beautiful. The movie has been well directed and deserves to be more famous.
  • Amazing movie by Netflix, inspired by true story, Shot at real locations of Mumbai, story of a two boys from slums of Mumbai and thr passion for dance, great performances by relatively new actors, excellent direction!! Story of struggle, passion n triumph!!! Must watch👍👍

Cannot Imagine a better movie with such simple storyline, beautiful
  • Julian Sands acting was so stiff. I cringe all the way watching his performance. Such a amatuer compare to other actors. He has no empathy towards the character his playing, who hired him?
  • I personally love this genre of nobody becoming something. This movie has some of the nicest performances in both ballet and acting. I loved the music and flow of the screenplay. Dialogues are natural and they have picked the "Mumbai" tone rightly. Kudos to everyone associated with the film.

    Good
As always Hindus are shown as bad and aggressive and Muslims as good, accepting and victims. Why does Bollywood always bring bad Hindu/good Muslim angle. Food for thought.
  • Netflix delivers exactly what is expected of them. I hope it doesn't become another Bollywood platform because people from bollywood eg: Karan Johar, will make Netflix rot. We don't want it to be a dumpyard for rejected products of nepotism like ananya pandey and unapproved sub-standard projects like drive. We will pay only for good stuff. Play your cards right Netflix and you'll win us all one movie/show at a time.

  • Amazing movie frm Netflix, inspired by true story, shot at the real locations of Mumbai, story of two boys from slums of Mumbai n thr passion for dance. Great performance by relatively new breed of actors, excellent direction,,its a story of struggle, passion & triumph
  • On any normal day, under normal circumstances dance movies are a strict no no to me. Without any expectations and with absolutely nothing else to watch on Netflix, I gave "Yeh Ballet" a try. The movie was really very interesting and painted a great picture on Grit, Determination, Strength, Talent, and of course dance. Usually dance movies are all the same and "Yeh Ballet" is no different, as it treads along the traditional dance cinema storyline, but it's treatment & presentation really gives it an edge and it stands tall among all other similar dance movies.

A Fantastic storyline to begin with and an equally apt screenplay gives life to yeh Ballet. Cinematography set with a dark tone paints a rosy picture. Production design was decent throughout the movie. Casting was really good and it has really made a difference in my opinion. Acting is generally good though the lead characters are a bit raw. But with a lot of debutants adding minor character details to their roles, literally sparkled the screen. Characters were well written and equally acted well by all supporting actors, however small their roles were. Veteran Sooni Taraporevala just aced it, when it comes to directing. However it would have been nice if the editor had cut about 15 mins from the final run time.

"Yeh Ballet" is a film which that will connect with your heart in a jiffy. Though dance is no way my cup of tea, I really enjoyed it throughout It can be watched with the entire family, and rest assured that it will be loved by all age groups equally. A must watch to celebrate human will & spirit.
  • The movie is packed with so much content in so little time and in such a nice little story. Some movies are such that you never wish came to an end and this was one such a movie. Although in the beginning it treaded dangerously close to the Mumbai slums and you could almost write it off as another offshoot of Slumdog Millionaire or another Gully Boy parallel but I found 'Yeh Ballet' better than both. Yes, as I loved both SD and GB. Every actor does justice to their characters - none of the dialogues seem misplaced - the story movement is linear and reasonable with minimal loopholes. It shows no undue romanticism when the protagonists fight their poverty and seek a better life. It shows no extra celebration when they try to win the world with their talent. Scenes are meticulously edited and scripted to perfection. In one of them, when the aerial view of nighttime Mumbai is shown from a plane, the screen is tilted just to the degree in which the plane catches its elevation. Two innocent boys look from the airplane as they fly higher to gain the elevation in their life and remember where they came from. Such a surreal moment! Such scenes are spread all throughout the movie. A Mustwatch!! I am in awe of the movie and I am surely going to watch it over and over again.
  • This is based on true story which is truly emotionally inspiring one!

  • True astonishing and inspiring in each frame.A must watch for everyone
  • I liked movie it so much !! Ballet is a great art !!
  • With a deft screenwriting hand, an impeccable eye for authentic detail, an ear for an exquisite soundtrack and sure-footed direction of the dance sequences, Sooni Taraporevala has bestowed this gift of a film to audiences within the reach of Netflix. I never tire of rewatching this inspirational story. When you need your faith in the world restored, watch Yeh Ballet. It's impact is all the richer being based closely on a true story. The breakout performances by Manish Chauhan and Achintya Bose are beautifully supported by the full cast, including gorgeous nuanced performances by veteran actors.

An Absolute Amazement To Watch. Acting Is Great, Story Is Compelling, You Got Dreams.? I Think Yes.! There's No Reason Not To Watch It.. Worth Every Minute. Grab It Now.! 👍
  • Sooni Taraporewala is an amazing director. Her decades of working with Mira Nair has obviously paid off. A remarkable film. It was heart rending to watch Julian Sands in one of his last films.

Manish Chauhan is more than mere eye candy. He is an exquisite dancer.
