The first gangster movie ever filmed
THE GODFATHER or GOODFELLAS?
While the Godfather is a modern Shakespearean play, epic saga about America, family, honor and loyalty with romanticised and operatic depiction of the underworld,Goodfellas is a far more gritty and realistic depiction, where gangsters are portrayed as violent individuals who care only about themselves and don't give a damn about honor and loyalty.Altough inspired by the classic "gangster's rise and fall" formula it differs from the early 30's gangster films with retrospective direction and accurate insight in personal and professional life of a gangster. It's the first gansgster film where we see gangsters involved in everyday situations and dealing with personal issues unconnected with their mob activities.Scorsese's realistic and documentary style approach gives us the most accurate and detailed insight in the Italian mafia outdone only by The Sopranos.
