Julia Louis-Dreyfus was the latest celebrity to take part in Seth Meyers‘ semi-regular Late Night segment “Day Drinking,” and it only took her one sip of a dirty martini to realize, “This show is a terrible idea.” The multi-time Emmy-winning actress appeared on the show to promote her new movie Tuesday, but by the end of the segment, she was spilling her guts, revealing her favorite Weekend Update host and whether she would call Jerry Seinfeld or Larry David if she ended up in prison. Things kicked off with a Veep-themed round of drinks inspired by Louis-Dreyfus’ time as Vice President Selina Meyer on the hit HBO comedy series. This included a Norman Rockefeller (ruby port and Goldschläger), a Harry Truman (two Jägerbombs dropped into beer), and a Dick Cheney, which was just a shot. “Because he shot somebody in the face?” Louis-Dreyfus said. “He did,” Meyers replied. “And then we look back on it.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has pushed back at former co-star Jerry Seinfeld’s negative remarks about “political correctness” in comedy, saying that having “an antenna about sensitivities is not a bad thing” and that complaining about political correctness is “a red flag, because it sometimes means something else”.

Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus clapped back at her former co-star Jerry Seinfeld on his comments about “politically correct” television. On an April New Yorker’s Radio Hour episode, Seinfeld criticized the “extreme left” for ruining comedy.
Seinfeld stated that audiences are veering toward live stand-up shows because of the lack of censored content. He added that comedy series on television is different from the past, citing how jokes are now heavily reviewed and often cut before they air.
In an interview with the New York Times published Sunday, Louis-Dreyfus called her former co-stars comments a “red flag.”
“When I hear people starting to complain about political correctness—and I understand why people might push back on it—but to me, that’s a red flag because sometimes it means something else,” Louis-Dreyfus stated. “I believe being aware of certain sensitivities is not a bad thing.”

In a recent interview, Thunderbolts* star Julia Louis-Dreyfus confirmed that she had finished filming her scenes as the scheming Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, but was hesitant to discuss the movie in any more detail.
However, the Seinfeld alum was a little more forthcoming while speaking to The New York Times, suggesting that Thunderbolts* might be more character-focused than we expected.
"It's very well organized. Very methodical. And I don't mean that in a negative way," Louis-Dreyfus said of her time working on the Marvel Studios' team-up film. "Particularly on this film, they're very much focused on, frankly, the human story, believe it or not. They're trying to sort of go back to their roots, as it were. And so there's a lot of focus on that. They're trying to stay away from as much CGI or whatever as possible, so that the stunts are, like, everywhere. And in fact,...

If there’s been one complaint we’ve been hearing for years regarding Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, it’s the overreliance on CGI. Ok, the lack of direction is also a common annoyance, but we will focus on abundant bluescreens. Luckily, it appears that Thunderbolts* may break Marvel’s addiction to computer-generated imagery.
While speaking with The Daily, one of the stars of the upcoming semi-grounded superhero movie said we should expect a more human story focused on people rather than spectacle.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who previously played Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, delivered the good news. In the interview, she said, “They are trying to stay away from [CGI] as much…”
The former Seinfeld star also commented on how the story will be a more character-driven outing, something we’ve only seen done well in the Guardians trilogy:
“They are very much focused on … the humans’ story.

When you look at comedians who complain that political correctness is ruining comedy, it’s typically said by older white men. They just believe that comedy is dying because you can’t knowingly offend people. And so they blame the younger generation for being too “woke.” And recently, the comedian who has been on the forefront of that sort of messaging is none other than Jerry Seinfeld. During a podcast interview, he warned people about the “extreme left and PC crap.” Now, we have one of his “Seinfeld” co-stars pushing back against that sort of comment.

How do you ever get past the loss of a loved one? Time and patience often help the most, yet when we see our loved ones trending toward death, we frequently find ourselves bargaining for more time. Tuesday, the feature directorial debut of Daina Oniunas-Pusic examines a woman faced with crushing loss or the choice to take on an impossible task. Like most of us, she chooses a task far beyond her understanding. The setup opens the door for one of Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘s most potent performances on film. However, Tuesday‘s flaws become more apparent with its slow pacing and questionable narrative choices.

Theaters will live to fight another day. “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” (Sony) provided more than half of the gross this weekend, taking #1 with $56 million. That isn’t a record for the franchise (with previous films at lower ticket prices), but it is a critical victory for the industry at a time it desperately needs them.
Will Smith’s first wide release since his catastrophic Oscar behavior in 2022 represents a triumph for star power, franchise filmmaking, action titles, and titles that draw from minority audiences (over two thirds for the weekend were Black and Latino). Most of all, it was a vital sign that underperformance for highly touted summer films isn’t a given.
In the face of rising industry panic, an under-$40 million opening for “Ride or Die” (its 2020 predecessor opened to $62 million) could have ratched the doom and despair to toxic levels. Instead, it blew past tracking projections...

The first full weekend of June brought a modicum of hope to the summer box office, as Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reunited for the fourth installment of their popular “Bad Boys” action-comedy franchise. Read on for the weekend box office report.
“Bad Boys: Ride or Die” had been planned since 2020’s “Bad Boys for Life” became the highest-grossing blockbuster that year, partially due to Covid shutting down theaters a few weeks after its release. Opening in 3,885 theaters, including IMAX and other premium screens, “Ride or Die” received mixed reviews with 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, although it was expected to be fairly review-proof with the popularity of its two stars. It ended up making $5.88 million in Thursday previews beginning at 3pm, and $21.6 million on Friday, including those previews.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus discussed political correctness, the roles she’s drawn to, including starring in upcoming film Tuesday (out June 14) where she stars as a mother whose teenage daughter has a terminal illness, and more in a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times.
The actress has portrayed a variety of characters with “sharp edges” — from Seinfeld’s Elaine Benes to the self-absorbed Selina Meyer in Veep — they’re very funny, but they are not “good girls,” she said. “I don’t play girls who behave a way that a good girl should behave.

Though Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* is still shooting, Julia Louis-Dreyfus has finished filming her scenes as the scheming Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
The Seinfeld star revealed that she had now wrapped on the movie, although she declined to share any more details when asked if she performed any stunts while working on the project.
"I don’t know if you’re familiar with the Marvel Universe, but when you join it, you sign your life away in an NDA. So, if I say anything to you right now, I will be executed by the universe."
Does this indicate that Val will have a smaller role in the movie than we'd been led to believe? Not necessarily, but she was never likely to have as much screen time as the characters who make up the team, and we're hearing that the movie is scheduled to wrap within the next couple of weeks,...

In May of 1974 the first Daytime Emmy Award for Best Actor went to Macdonald Carey for his role as Dr. Tom Horton on NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.” Since that first ceremony, dozens of performers have won this award. Scroll through our gallery below to see every recipient who has ever taken home the honor, including a few who made history with their multiple victories over the years.
ABC’s “General Hospital” has earned 12 wins in this category, more than any other soap opera. Eight of those 12 wins went to Anthony Geary, whose victories for the iconic role of Luke Spencer make him the most awarded actor in daytime history and tie him with Julia Louis-Dreyfus for the second most acting Emmys at the daytime or primetime awards. Julia Louis-Dreyfus excels in the film Tuesday, exploring grief and love in a unique and whimsical way. This is not your typical sweet and innocent mother-daughter story. Death Takes Flight in Daina O. Pusic’s Fantasy Tuesday is a fantasy drama directed by Daina Oniunas-Pusic, which initially premiered in 2023. The film follows Zora, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, while she cares for her terminally ill daughter Tuesday, portrayed by Lola Petticrew. The story takes an eccentric turn when Death, rendered as a giant parrot that can change its size, comes to help Zora accept the inevitable. The Unconventional Manifestation of Death...

As Julia Louis-Dreyfus recalls, the pitch for Daina O. Pusić’s feature directorial debut, ‘Tuesday’, was undeniably unique. While she can’t pinpoint every detail, one thing stood out: This is a super unusual film. And indeed, it is. In this poignant narrative, Louis-Dreyfus stars as Zora, a single mother grappling with her daughter Tuesday’s terminal illness. Tuesday (played by the award-winning Irish actor Lola Petticrew) has been sick for a while. Her world changes when Death arrives – portrayed not just any way but as a size-morphing talking macaw. This feathered manifestation of Death, animated with exquisite detail, is voiced by...

It’s a big weekend for critically acclaimed indies in limited release as well as a handful of moderate openings, including Richard Gere’s latest film Longing. The provenance of that is unusual as the film from Lionsgate/Grindstone is a Canada-set remake of a 2017 Israeli drama. The original was quite well received, but the film opening this weekend has been thoroughly skewered by critics.
After winning screenplay and audience awards in Israel, the original film premiered in Venice, taking the Bnl People’s Choice Award, then played Toronto.
Both versions are written and directed by Savi Gabizon. Characters and story are identical: a successful single American businessman (Gere) meets up with a 20-year-old old flame (Suzanne Clément) and learns that he has a son, and, a beat later, that the young man has just died in a car accident. Trying to process that and find a connection,...

Humanity has always grappled with the mystery of death, creating stories to make sense of life’s inevitable end. It’s a topic that remains as enigmatic today as it was centuries ago. Tuesday, Daina O. Pusic’s debut feature film, also ventures into this perplexing territory, portraying death through the peculiar lens of a fantastical parrot. An Ode to Uncharted Emotions In Tuesday, Julia Louis-Dreyfus offers a deeply impactful performance. Known primarily for her comedic roles, she navigates uncharted emotional waters as Zora, a mother grappling with her daughter’s terminal illness. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Louis-Dreyfus delves into a sphere...

Julia Louis-Dreyfus doesn’t recall the exact pitch she got for Daina O. Pusić’s feature directorial debut “Tuesday,” but she remembers the gist of it. “Maybe they told me, ‘This is a super unusual film,’ and that was it,” the film’s star told IndieWire during a recent interview. She’s not fudging on that designation.
In the film, Louis-Dreyfus stars as Zora, the single mother of ailing teenager Tuesday (played by the remarkable Lola Petticrew). Tuesday has been sick for some time, and when Death arrives at the pair’s London flat, the deeply empathetic Tuesday immediately realizes who he is and what he wants.
And while we can’t ever stop Death, we can delay him a bit, which is exactly what Tuesday attempts to do, mostly by befriending the beleaguered bird and offering him the sort of kindness and respect no one had in the past.

While Death has taken many physical forms throughout history, its core mission remains static: to shepherd a dying person’s soul out of this world and into the beyond. In “Tuesday,” the fantastical feature-length debut from Daina O. Pusić, Death is a talking macaw, voiced by Arinzé Kene, that appears before a living being in their final moments and takes them away with one swift motion of his wing. In between assignments, however, the painful pleas of his future charges — an aural reminder of the cruel necessity of his raison d’être — ring in his ear like tinnitus.
It doesn’t take long for Death to arrive in front of the terminally ill, wheelchair-using teenager Tuesday (Lola Petticrew), but it takes even less time for her to quiet the voices in his head. Just as he’s about to end her life, she disarms his foreboding presence with a lame...

Death takes the most unexpected of forms in “Tuesday,” a sui generis debut from Croatian director Daina O. Pusić. Her strikingly original if occasionally counterintuitive film brings the central idea of Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal” into the modern era — trying to stall Death, if only for a matter of hours — anchored by a committed performance from a curiously miscast Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
According to Pusić’s singular imagination, Death isn’t a scythe-wielding skeleton, nor a winged figure in a pitch-black plague cloak. Rather, it appears as a ruddy-colored, computer-generated macaw with a rumbling Darth Vader-esque bass (performed by Arinzé Kene), his words low like glaciers calving and a syntax like Jabba the Hutt. Why a macaw? It seems that these exotic parrots are harbingers of death in some cultures (though the film doesn’t explain that). This one — an intimidating red bird that can shrink and swell...

If you’re quirk-averse, you might be immediately put off by a cursory description of Daina Oniunas-Pusić’s debut feature, Tuesday, in which Julia Louis-Dreyfus confronts death in the form of a shape-shifting, talking macaw. But from the distressing and immersive opening scenes, it’s clear Tuesday is an unsettling and bold vision that rewards a viewer willing to sit through some flaws (and some cringe).
In the opening sequence (reminiscent of both Enter the Void and Wings of Desire) the Macaw (voiced and performed on set by Arinze Kene) appears to a handful of poor souls on the edge of death after hearing their pleas over an oppressive din. He ends their lives with the wave of a mangey, heavy wing. The Macaw’s eyes are clouded, and he moves from a parking lot to a living room to an alley with a weary inexorability that is, frankly, frightening.

Who is the best female TV star of all time? Our new photo gallery above takes on the tough task of ranking the 30 greatest actresses and performers. Agree or disagree with our choices?
With over 70 years of television to consider, we had to provide ourselves with a few rules to help simplify things. One of those was that every woman in our gallery must have been an ongoing leading lady at some point, preferably more often than not. That’s why you will not see such classic supporting actresses as Vivian Vance, Doris Roberts or Rhea Perlman.
In order to place them in the rankings, we were looking at a combination of quality (top rated shows with the public or critics), quantity (number of shows and TV appearances), Emmy wins and nominations, plus overall legacy and iconic nature. They also needed to be on television regularly for at least the last 15 years or more.

Tour through our photo gallery above featuring the Top 30 greatest TV stars who have never won an Emmy (arranged in alphabetical order). We only chose people with long-running television careers without reaching this one singular achievement. Congratulations to Jason Bateman for finally getting off of our list in 2019!

“Quoth the Raven ‘Nevermore.’” With those words, over a century and a half ago, Edgar Allen Poe cemented the iconography of the bird as a metaphor for death in pitch-black ink. Though “The Raven” has hatched many cinematic imitators (including the 1935 film starring Bela Lugosi that was “suggested” by it and the 1963 film by the late Roger that more explicitly adapted it), few have carried with them the crater-like sadness that pervades the narrative poem. And while it isn’t explicitly an adaptation of “The Raven,” Daina O. Pusić’s feature debut, Tuesday, feels the weight of death’s visitation in the form of a macaw, resulting in a film of tremendous emotion, spirit, and paradoxically restraint and ambition.

Does the * in Thunderbolts*'s title = Black Widow 2?
According to trusted scooper Alex Perez, "Thunderbolts* is "just a Black Widow sequel the same way Civil War was a Captain America sequel... Yelena’s handling Red Room remnants and then gets sidetracked with Thunderbolts*."
Seeing as Thunderbolts* features characters like Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster, we've long suspected it would be heavily tied to Black Widow. Bucky and U.S. Agent's presence on the team also creates a significant link to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
The Hollywood Reporter may have even confirmed this in a new piece which reveals, "[Florence] Pugh, 28, earned an eight-figure payday for two Marvel films, first the Scarlett Johansson-led Black Widow then Thunderbolts, where she will be at the top of the call sheet."
