Nearly 25 years later, Danielle Fishel is wishing Topanga had said, “I don’t.”
On a recent episode of the Pod Meets World podcast, the actress admitted that she didn’t think Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and Topanga Lawrence’s (Fishel) wedding on the 1999 Boy Meets World episode ‘It’s About Time’ was “the right choice” for the show.
“I know from my just my memories of it, after we were married, feeling like, well, now we’re married, and they had to come up with new, like, upping the stakes for us,” she said. “And I remember not loving those stakes.”
As the wedding episode happened a quarter of the way through the show’s seventh and final season, Fishel believes the show “could have gotten more mileage out of them being together, but not yet married” while the characters were still in college.

Danielle Fishel would not have had her and Ben Savage’s characters make it to the altar on Boy Meets World if she had the choice.
In the latest episode of Boy Meets World rewatch podcast Pod Meets World, select fans were invited to ask the cast their burning questions about the sitcom. One fan wanted to know the one thing about the show the hosts and former stars Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle would change.
“I don’t think I would have Cory (Savage) and Topanga (Fishel) get married,” admitted Fishel. “I think I might have her still do the proposal and maybe he still says yes, [and] we go through the whole planning. Then, we end up deciding it’s maybe not the right choice for us now.”

Feeny! Feeny! Fee-hee-hee-hee-ny! William Daniels, who played one of the most beloved teachers in all of media, shared a new photo with some of his old Boy Meets World students, calling them some of his favorites.
In his Instagram post – and how amazing is it that William Daniels is active on social media at the age of 97? – the actor shared a pic in which he, Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence), Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews) reunited, along with the caption, “Just a little reunion with my favorite students!!” He also had a photo with just Fishel, showing an even more special bond between the two. Notably absent, of course, was Ben Savage (Cory Matthews), who has distanced himself from Boy Meets World, showing a disinterest in reunions or media appearances.

William Daniels’ Mr. Feeny said it himself on Boy Meets World: You don’t have to be blood to be family. And Daniels and some of his own family from the ‘90s sitcom reunited recently, as the actor showed off on social media. “Just a little reunion with my favorite students!” Daniels wrote on X, captioning photos of himself posing alongside wife Bonnie and former Boy Meets World costars Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence), Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews). Conspicuously absent from the mini-reunion was Ben Savage, who played protagonist Cory Matthews. Fishel, Strong, and Friedle — who cohost the Pod Meets World podcast — told Variety last year that Savage had broken off contact. Most of the cast of “Boy Meets World” reunited Saturday at ’90s Con in Tampa, Florida — with the notable exception of Ben Savage, who played the lead role of Cory on the show. Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga, appeared to address Savage’s absence without naming him specifically.
She said to the audience, “when you really commit to a relationship, when you really commit to this idea that we are always going to be in each other’s lives … that commitment to a relationship is such a lesson for everybody.”
In 2020, Fishel and costars Rider Strong and Will Friedle told Variety that Savage had apparently “ghosted” them. As Fishel put it, “He just kind of disappeared from our lives.”

The ’90s were a hell of a time to be a teen watching television. Steve Urkle terrorized the Winslows with his hormones and buffoonery, Zack Morris, an unchecked sociopath, ruled the halls of Bayside High, and the cast of Boy Meets World dabbled in matters of the heart, disturbing societal norms, and the multitude of ways to conduct a proper Feeny call. Unafraid to tackle harsh topics like child abuse, abandonment, and racism, people identified with the Boy Meets World cast, teens and parents included.
Initially airing on ABC from 1993 to 2000, Boy Meets World starred Ben Savage as Cory Matthews, Will Friedle as Eric Matthews, Rider Strong as Shawn Hunter, Danielle Fishel as Topanga Lawrence, William Daniels as the wisened George Feeny, Trina McGee-Davis as Angela Moore, William Russ as Alan Matthews, Betsy Randle as Amy Matthews, with Lily Nicksay and Lindsay Ridgeway as Morgan Matthews.

In the 1990s, there was an undeniable boom of incredibly successful sitcoms. The decade was flooded with sitcoms that would ultimately define that era of television. In just 10 years, viewers became glued to shows that have stood the test of time, like "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," "Seinfeld," "Frasier," "Friends," and many more. Amongst the variety of sitcoms on TV, "Boy Meets World" was an instant hit, especially for younger audiences. The coming-of-age show, which first aired in 1993, followed the day-to-day lives of Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), Cory's older brother Eric Matthews (Will Friedle), Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel), and Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) as they navigated life from adolescence to young adulthood.

Actress Bonnie Morgan shared some ugly truths on the podast “Pod Meets World.”
Early in her career, she was signed to play lead character Topanga Lawrence on the show “Boys Meets World.” She talked with podcast hosts and show cast members Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle about her experience on the show and how she felt when she was fired.
“I had three callbacks,” she said. “They kept bringing me back, and … it was rooms full of people every time. And, weirdly, every time I’d audition, we’d talk a lot. Every time I’d come back, the script would change slightly, it seemed, to things we had talked about.”
Morgan felt the role was deeply connected to her. Even the name Topanga “was out of my parents’ love history,” noting they “got married in Topanga Canyon. It was the coolest thing ever.”

Before fans came to know Danielle Fishel as Topanga on “Boy Meets World”, there was Bonnie Morgan.
As viewers know today, Fishel portrayed Topanga Lawrence through all seven seasons of the hit ABC sitcom, but that was not originally the case. Instead, Morgan, a fellow child actress, had landed the role, but was swiftly fired. Three decades later, Morgan recalled the sequence of events to Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong on the Monday episode of their joint podcast, “Pod Meets World”, and, notably, the alleged reason she was really let go from the role.
Morgan remembered having multiple callbacks for the job before being cast and noticed the script would continue to change, seemingly to reflect their conversations with her. After officially landing the role at around 12 years old, the actress described her first day on set as the “weirdest day of my life.” She claimed the adults were...

Boy Meets World would be nothing without the boy himself, Ben Savage – but apparently that’s exactly what it has turned into, as his former cast members are claiming that Savage pulled a Mr. Turner and just up and vanished from their lives.
In a new Variety piece, Boy Meets World stars Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence-Matthews) and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews) – who co-host the rewatch podcast Pod Meets World, which Savage is not a part of – reflected on the estrangement from the former Cory Matthews.

Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong made a startling admission while discussing their former “Boy Meets World” co-star, Ben Savage — the group hasn’t spoken to him in three years. They’ve tried, but according to the trio, he “ghosted” them.
The three actors — who played Topanga, Eric and Shawn, respectively, for all seven seasons on the hit ABC sitcom from 1993 to 2000 — are perplexed about the estrangement, given that there’s no logical reason to explain the, for lack of a better word, fallout. They said as much in a lengthy Variety profile, in which they talk about their popular iHeart Radio rewatch podcast, “Pod Meets World”.
It wasn’t always this way. When the cast reunited at fan conventions, Savage — the show’s star as Cory Matthews — was also there front and center. With so much interest still surrounding the Tgif staple, the trio approached Savage about joining them for the rewatch episode.

Will Friedle isn’t the type of person to answer his phone while at a lunch — especially at a work lunch. In fact, he may have better manners than anyone I’ve ever met. But this was an exception.
We’d been sitting for about 10 minutes — Friedle, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and me — gathered around a corner booth in a Studio City restaurant.
“Oh, my gosh, I’m sorry, I have to take this,” he says after pulling his iPhone out of his pocket. He quickly turns it around, showing the group the names that are scrolling across the screen: “Bill & Bonnie Daniels.”
It was just a check in from Mr. (and Mrs.) Feeny and no, it wasn’t a planned call. It was simply an example of how most (more on that later) of this cast is actually still close.

Maitland Ward , who played Rachel McGuire on ABC’s “Boy Meets World” from 1998 to 2000, said that “girls were treated like meat,” by the “Disney machine.”
“You had to be virginal, but you also had to be sexual,” Ward told Fox News Digital in an interview published Friday.
The actress, who is now an adult film performer, said the problem wasn’t her co-stars or ABC. “The issues mainly came from Disney, and that it wasn’t so much with the cast members. It was more the whole Disney machine back then, especially back in the late ’90s and early 2000s when the girls were treated like meat.”

Boy Meets World, starring Danielle Fishel, Ben Savage and Rider Strong, was a hit coming-of-age TV series that ran from 1993-2000. It provided plenty of young viewers on-screen proxies for their own ups and downs with adolescence and young adulthood. Without a doubt, the element that made the show so meaningful to so many was the connections between the characters.
It’s hard to imagine that the show almost didn’t include one of its most famous couples: Cory and Topanga.
On ‘Boy Meets World,’ Danielle Fishel played Topanga
Boy Meets World is remembered today for its core cast of characters. That includes best friends Cory (Ben Savage) and Shawn (Rider Strong), their teacher Mr. Feeny (William Daniels), and Cory’s brother Eric (Will Friedle). The list would not be complete without Cory’s long-time girlfriend and eventual wife, Topanga (Danielle Fishel).
Topanga was an important part of the series for its entire seven-year run.

Ben Savage, the former Boy Meets World star who recently announced that he is running for Congress, landed national exposure with an interview on Thursday’s GMA3: What You Need To Know.
In the interview, the show ran a clip from a 1995 Boy Meets World episode in which his character, Cory Matthews, gives an impassioned speech in running for class president. “I’m not somebody special. I am just an average guy like of you, the simple, hardworking students who struggle day after day. Too much homework. Unfair teachers. And an antiquated justice system that relies too much on detention. And if elected, if I win, and you guys vote for me, I would say, to each and every one of you, ‘Hey, thanks!'”
Savage was asked if the passion of his character or any of that message “still stand today.”
“I think I’d be wearing a better shirt.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-ca) has entered the race for U.S. Senate in what looks to be a hotly contested intra-party battle in California in anticipation that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca) won’t run for another term.

Ben Savage, best known for playing the lead role of Cory Matthews on the ABC sitcom Boy Meets World and its Disney Channel sequel Girl Meets World, is hoping to land a seat in Congress. As reported by People, recent paperwork filed with the Federal Election Commission reveals the creation of a committee to help with Savage’s political campaign. The former sitcom star is looking to run as a Democrat in California’s 30th District. The seat, which covers neighborhoods such as West Hollywood, Burbank and Pasadena, is currently held by high profile Democrat Adam Schiff, who is expected to run for Dianne Feinstein’s U.S. Senate seat should she choose not to stand again in 2024. This isn’t Savage’s first foray into politics; in fact, he graduated from Stanford University in 2004 with a degree in political science. During his studies, he interned for U.S. Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.

Initially airing on ABC, Boy Meets World starred Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, Will Friedle, William Daniels, William Russ, Betsy Randle, and Trina McGee. In the comedic drama, a group of kids learns about the pitfalls of growing up, accepting change, and paying attention to life’s many lessons.
Watched by scores of teens, Boy Meets World often tackled cultural issues, including interracial relationships, child abuse, sexual harassment, underage drug use, and abandonment. While the show’s impact on its target audience is undeniable, there was more going on behind the scenes than you would think. Everything from racial tension to drastic character changes caused problems on the set, leading to problems fans wouldn’t be aware of until after the show left the network.

The first thing you think of when discussing Boy Meets World isn’t sex, even if you did have a poster of Topanga on your wall. But Rider Strong, who played Shawn Hunter on Boy Meets World, has opened up about how the showrunners botched handling the matter in a professional way.
On a recent episode of the rewatch podcast “Pod Meets World”–which Strong co-hosts with Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence) and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews)–Rider Strong put Boy Meets World writers and producers on blast for not promoting a healthy approach to sex. “I remember being very upset during that entire week…I was very upset with the adults on our set — the way that they were approaching this, specifically because we were not discussing safe sex.”

It’s hard to imagine “Boy Meets World” without legendary actor William Daniels playing the iconic role of Mr. Feeny. But it almost didn’t happen, because Daniels turned down the role twice!
The 95-year-old actor, flanked by his wife of over 70 years, actress Bonnie Bartlett, opened up to Et’s Kevin Frazier about the reasons why he didn’t see himself playing Cory Matthews’ (Ben Savage) teacher-turned-mentor. For starters — and simply put — Daniels didn’t want to do a sitcom.
He was having the time of his life playing Dr. Mark Craig in the drama series “St. Elsewhere”, for which he won two Emmys, including in 1986 for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Bartlett also won an Emmy that year for Best Supporting Actress, as they became the second married couple in history to win an Emmy on the same night for “St. Elsewhere”. Williams had also voiced K.

Another “Boy Meets World” mystery was solved during a recent episode of the rewatch podcast, “Pod Meets World.” Trina McGee, who portrayed Angela Moore during the final three seasons of the sitcom, revealed why she wasn’t part of the series finale.
“This is some ground we have not covered. I was told, in kind of a weird, off-handed way by a very important person, that you guys all went to [showrunner] Michael Jacobs, and you said, ‘We don’t want her in the last episode. She’s somehow taking our light.’ [That] was the gist of it,” said McGee, who played Shawn Hunter’s (Rider Strong) girlfriend on the show. “I was told that after I shot what was the show before the last episode, which was called ‘Angela’s Ashes’ when I left. When Michael announced to me, we’re going to do another show on Angela, I was so happy,...

Maitland Ward has claimed Boy Meets World producers “asked” her to “try on lingerie” for them, in her new book.
The 45-year-old former Hollywood actor – who starred as Rachel McGuire in the sixth and seventh seasons of the 1993 sitcom – made the allegations in her recently released debut memoir, Rated X: How Porn Liberated Me from Hollywood.
“I was asked to try on lingerie for [Boy Meets World] producers in the office. This happened more than once, as Rachel was the only character to consistently take off her clothes,” an excerpt from Ward’s book, obtained by New York Post, reads.
“An assistant would gather me from my dressing room and take me upstairs where I’d be provided with a series of options, some playful and girlish, some so provocative I knew that Disney would never approve them, but still I would try them on.”
The seven-season series originally aired in full on ABC.

Lance Bass and Danielle Fishel‘s love story romance is getting the rom-com treatment! On a recent episode of Fishel’s “Pod Meets World” podcast, the “Boy Meets World” actress had her ex as a guest on the show and they recalled dating during her senior year of high school.
The two first met when *Nsync came on “Boy Meets World” for a live special in 1999. After spending the day together, Fishel found out that Bass had a crush on her. He got Justin Timberlake to get Fishel’s phone number for him, and the two started dating while he was on tour and she was filming the ABC sitcom. Eventually, Bass went to prom with Fishel.
“I thought I was going to marry Lance. I had envisioned our future,” Fishel recalled. “I held on for hope for way too long that we were going to get back together and...
