Boynton is joined by Toby Jones (“Tetris”), Laurie Davidson (“Cats”) and Mark Stanley (“Trigger Point”) in the four-part series, which promises to expose the British obsession with class, sex and death.

On trial for his murder, Ruth was condemned to hang by a system which judged her for far more than her crime.”

With a long and successful career spanning genres, Mia Farrow may not be considered a horror icon, but she’s certainly deserving of the title in terms of quality over quantity. The two genre efforts in which she starred are exemplary horror movies of their respective eras; while Rosemary’s Baby has been widely lauded since its release in 1968 (Roman Polanski’s personal life controversies notwithstanding), The Haunting of Julia – known internationally as Full Circle – is a hidden gem ripe for rediscovery.
Based on Peter Straub’s 1975 novel Julia, the 1977 British film is directed by Richard Loncraine and written by Dave Humphries (Quadrophenia), with Xtro filmmaker Harry Bromley Davenport receiving a “based on an adaptation by” credit. Although ostensibly a haunted house tale, its ambiguity also allows it to be viewed as a dramatic character study. Scream Factory shines a well-needed light on the atmospheric chiller with a new 4K Uhd + Blu-ray edition.

Burke joins already announced stars Dawn French, Julian Clary, Paul Zerdin, Nigel Havers and Gary Wilmot. The panto runs at the Palladium from December 10 through January 15.
The Brits love their pantos at Christmas. Michael Harrison, who heads Crossroads Pantomimes, has turned the Palladium panto into a must-see event with spectacular sets and costumes, plenty of song and dance coupled with over-the-top jokes.
Last season Burke played Scheherazade — the Spirit of the Ring in Aladdin at the Opera House, Manchester.
”This year I’ve got Dawn as Jack’s mum and Alexandra as Mrs. Blunderbore, the giant’s wife. She’s the villainess and she’ll be terrorizing Dawn,” Harrison told Deadline.

To celebrate the release of critically acclaimed Finding Alice, available on from 26th April, we have 3 copies of the series on DVD to give away.
From the producers behind the acclaimed series’ Years And Years and It’S A Sin, comes the dark family comedy Finding Alice, available to own on DVD from 26 April 2021.
Directed by Roger Goldby of Call the Midwife and The Durrells, Finding Alice is a dark family comedy co-created by and starring critically-acclaimed Keeley Hawes, alongside an all-star British supporting cast featuring Joanna Lumley, Gemma Jones and Nigel Havers.
Alice’s partner Harry dies after falling down the stairs when they move into their newly finished dream house. Harry designed the house, so it’s weird and wonderful, and impractical, and one more disorientation for Alice to go with her sense of loss and abandonment. Her beloved partner of 20 years is no more, and now she can’t find the fridge.

The new president adores the British classic, even referencing it in his victory speech. Creators including Hugh Hudson, David Puttnam, Nigel Havers, Nicholas Farrell and Stephen Fry applaud his choice – and his appointment
Last November, David Puttnam received a mysterious phone call. It was a tip-off from someone in the White House transition team. “They said: ‘We just thought you’d like to know that he’s referenced it again.’”
Joe Biden first cited Chariots of Fire – the stirring story of Scottish sprinting champion Eric Liddell and Jewish gold medallist Harold Abrahams that producer Puttnam ushered to Oscar glory in 1982 – as his favourite film during the vice presidential race in 2008. “Someone put personal fame and glory behind principles,” he said. “That, to me, is the mark of real heroism.”...

Finding Alice is a brilliant new series that begins on ITV this coming Sunday, and while featuring a host of treasured British talent, it was the show’s impressive newcomer we had the pleasure of speaking to, as we sat down to speak to the rising star Isabella Pappas.
We ask Pappas about her experience working with Keeley Hawes, and Nigel Havers, as well as Joanna Lumley, Gemma Jones and Kenneth Cranham (we told you it was treasured). She also comments on the incredible set, and her plans to watch the show, and if she feels a little like this period in her life is the quiet before the storm. She also talks about her childhood and whether acting is something she always wanted to do.
But that’s not to say she’s come completely out of the blue, as Pappas had an Olivier award nomination to her name.

Yesterday’s news that the UK government is placing London into its strictest tier 3 coronavirus lockdown has been met by an outpouring of grief from the beleaguered live entertainment sector.
Venues such as cinemas and theaters were able to re-open in the capital on December 2 when the country exited a four-week nationwide lockdown, and many have put a large amount of effort and investment into getting operational again ahead of the lucrative holiday period.
In the immediate aftermath to yesterday’s announcement, the UK Cinema Association said the move would be “devastating” for its members, particularly as Wonder Woman 1984 will soon be available to program (windowing issues asides).
Today, the cast and crew of Pantoland At The Palladium, the annual festive stage show held at the famed London theater, have joined the chorus of dissent expressing the negative impact this will have on the long term health of live venues.

Those who have a weakness for British spy movies will find plenty to like in "The Whistle Blower", a largely unheralded 1986 production that boasts a fine performance by Michael Caine. He plays Frank Jones, a nondescript middle-aged Brit with a somewhat convoluted background. He was a fighter pilot in the military but his career came to an end when he struck a superior officer. It's then implied that he went on to work for British Intelligence in some capacity, though in reality his act of military insubordination would probably have excluded him from that position. When we are introduced to Frank he is a widower and owner of a small office supply business who is paying a visit to his 28 year-old son Bob for a low key celebration of his offspring's birthday. It turns out that Bob is employed by Government Communications Headquarters (Gchq), which is a branch of the intelligence community.

Exclusive: BAFTA-winning actress Sheridan Smith has been cast in her latest ITV series — an “event drama” from Red Production Company and writer Danny Brocklehurst in which a dream family holiday turns into a nightmare.
Smith will play Kathy in No Return, a mother who leads her family on a vacation to Turkey, where an idyllic break quickly unravels when their 16-year-old son is arrested after attending a local beach party.
Kathy and her husband Martin are left to navigate an expensive and alien legal system, looming media coverage, and the disdain of fellow holidaymakers in a four-part series that deals with issues including teenage consent.
Brocklehurst, who wrote Netflix hit The Stranger (another Red production) and Sky’s Brassic, described No Return as a “passion project” about a family “caught in a modern nightmare.” Smith added that it was a “thrilling, complex” story.

Adela Quested (Judy Davis) finishes A Passage to India in the same manner she started the movie: her face is deformed by a window full of drops of rain. In both cases, she is looking at something more or less out of frame, blurred or uncertain, imaginary or physical. The placement of the camera, in the beginning and in the end, is at a different location. When the film starts, we are inside of a traveling agency and Adela is walking past the panoramic window. She stops for a second and stares at a large-sized model of a ship. We can’t see the ship entirely: just some chimneys, masts and ropes. We only know this is a ship because the previous shot—the first shot of the picture, actually—showed us this model. In the end of the movie, Adela is reading a letter concerning events that we have seen.

Simon Day's musical comedy creation Life of Rock with Brian Pern is moving back home to BBC Four.
Paul Whitehouse's Pat Quid, Nigel Havers' Tony Pebblé and Michael Kitchen's John Farrow are all confirmed to return for the third series, which will celebrate 45 years of Brian Pern's musical career, Radio Times reports.
The character – who supposedly invented world music and made the first Plasticine pop video ever – arrived on our screens as a founder of fictional prog rock band Thotch last year.
Pern, played by Day, said he was "delighted" that the show is coming back, saying it will "remind people how I shaped rock music over the last 45 years".
The show's writer and creator Rhys Thomas said: "I am thrilled that Brian Pern is returning to BBC Four, though it has been hard to celebrate since receiving numerous death threats from certain members of Genesis...

Steven Spielberg and daughter Destry Spielberg on the Oscars' Red Carpet Steven Spielberg and daughter Destry Steven Spielberg and daughter Destry Spielberg arrive at the 83rd Academy Awards, held on Feb. 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Spielberg has taken home two Best Director Oscars: Schindler's List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998). Schindler's List also won Best Picture, but Saving Private Ryan lost to John Madden's Miramax-distributed Shakespeare in Love. There was quite a bit of animosity at the time, as some felt that Miramax, owned by brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein, overdid its Oscar campaigning – while still managing to sway enough Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences members to vote for its film. Somewhat ironically, at the 2011 Academy Awards ceremony Steven Spielberg presented the Best Picture Award to The King's Speech. Toplining Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush, Guy Pearce, and Claire Bloom, this British production was...

Sinitta will perform a pole dance in this weekend's episode of Get Your Act Together.
The 'So Macho' legend will don a sparkly leotard and learn from her mentor Bendy Kate before showing off her new-found skills to the studio audience on Sunday night's show.
Sinitta - who thought it was a joke when she was told she would be learning to pole dance - admitted that she has been suffering from some bruises on her bottom and "tender areas".
"The pole hurts," she said. "Imagine extreme rope burns along cold metal running across your flesh. I have been in really serious, horrible pain."
But she must have done well as host Stephen Mulhern recently told Digital Spy that she had surprised him the most, saying: "When you see this, it takes her to another league. You just think, 'Full respect to you', because I don't know many people who could do that.

The lovable East Anglian rogue returns for another go-around in Acorn Media’s latest DVD release: Lovejoy series 4. Starring Deadwood’s Ian McShane, the series is centered around a slippery antiques dealer who occupies a moral grey zone and struggles to stay on the right side of the law.
As ever, Lovejoy is closely followed by his loyal sidekicks: the dim-witted Eric, and the “barker” Tinker Dill. Also returning this series is Lovejoy’s nemesis, Charlie Gimbert (Malcolm Tierney). Gimbert is to Lovejoy as that French chap was to Indiana Jones. Let’s just say that when grown men are fighting over antiques, there’s no such such thing as foul play!
The artefacts in this show are rather more exciting than the knick-knacks people wheel out at the Antiques Roadshow. In season 4, Lovejoy gets his hands on a commode that reportedly once belonged to Napoleon. He discovers a Billiards...
