Review

  • Since this is transitional and the most soap operatic episode so far, I won't do much criticizing. First of all, the Eleanor Roosevelt character is hard to put a finger on. She is stoic and firm in her beliefs. Why she and Franklin and she hooked up is a bit strained. Betty Ford's portrayal is so sad. It's a person put in a world where she wasn't prepared for the tribulations of her new post. She is the wife of a politician, but to be thrust into the First Lady role is a quantum leap. Finally, I'm a big Viola Davis fan and yet I think she is totally miscast here. Physically, she just doesn't do it for me. She's awfully harsh in almost every setting. Anyway, I will be interested to see where this takes them.
