If you’re in the mood for something sultry on this fine Wednesday, you may want to check out the new trailer for Emmanuelle. Based on the 1967 novel by Emmanuelle Arsan, the film is a reboot of the long-running erotic franchise.
Billed as a bold, modern re-imagining of one of film’s most provocative characters, Emmanuelle stars Noémie Merlant (Portrait of a Lady on Fire), Will Sharpe (The White Lotus), Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), and Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive). The synopsis reads: “While on business in Hong Kong Emmanuelle meets Kei, a man who constantly eludes her. Though she indulges in the many alluring distractions the city has to offer, she can’t shake their chance encounter. Will she submit to her basest desires to forge a deeper relationship? Audrey Diwan’s film, freely adapted from Emmanuelle Arsan’s novel, casts a female gaze on the intimate quest of...

For more than two years, Joe Lipsett has dissected Amityville Horror films to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
It’s something of a fool’s errand to try and contain just what an Amityville film is. While part of the goal of this project has been to chart how different entries evolve, expand or detract from the public’s perception of the brand, the reality is that Amityville is no one thing. Particularly not as we close in on entry 60 (!) of these damned films!
Still, it is interesting to explore what happens when certain filmmakers return to play in the sandbox with multiple entries. That’s the case with director Mark Polonia, who returns for a fourth “franchise” entry with Once Upon A Time in Amityville, a period film released in 2024 that he co-wrote with Aaron Drake.

This article contains spoilers for "Doctor Who" season 2, episode 7, "The Wish World."
Early in "The Wish World," we see the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford) look up in awe, and the camera reveals that their quiet residential London street is surrounded by gigantic skeletal beasts and a bone fortress that reaches toward the clouds. This strange fever dream soon turns out to be precisely that -- a wish dreamed up by the chillingly monstrous podcaster Conrad Clark (Jonah Hauer-King) and brought into existence by the infant God of Wishes, Desidirium. Somehow, though, even the combination of a particularly dangerous member of the Pantheon of Discord and the devious villain from "Lucky Day" isn't enough for the show's antagonist game. On the contrary, both are simply following the larger plan of the bi-generated Time Lady Rani (Archie Panjabi) and her other self, Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson). They, in turn,...

When season 4 of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine premiered, Trek fans were treated to a familiar face: Lieutenant Commander Worf, who came aboard the station as the new Strategic Operations Officer. While this addition was a gambit to boost the show’s ratings, it also gave Worf’s character a chance to grow outside his role on Star Trek: The Next Generation. For better or worse, Worf underwent several changes as he settled into his new home on board Deep Space Nine.
A deeper focus on the complexity of nature vs. nurture
As a Klingon raised by humans and having spent most of his adult life in Starfleet, Worf’s complex nature became more of a focal point and allowed his character to grow as he encountered other Klingons more often. Many still perceived him as a traitor, and this forced Worf to constantly grapple with his Klingon roots and concepts of loyalty and honor.

Yuiga Danzuka’s Brand New Landscape unfolds as a quietly resonant family drama set against Tokyo’s ever-evolving skyline. Two siblings—Ren, now a measured young orchid courier, and Emi, on the brink of marriage—must confront Hajime, the father whose career-driven absence fractured their childhood. This feature debut, arriving three years after Danzuka’s 2022 short Far, Far Away, balances hushed observation with a sudden drift into the surreal, inviting viewers to reconsider what “home” means when city blocks shift overnight.
Through long takes and expansive 2:1 framing, the film situates private grief within public redevelopment—each gallery exhibit or redeveloped park echoing the siblings’ struggle to map guilt, abandonment and the faint promise of reunion. As Tokyo’s street-level bustle and quiet domestic interiors collide, Danzuka asks whether reconnection can emerge from spaces that once felt irreparably empty—an open question that encourages reflection on how personal histories intersect...

The Space Program, a New York-based team of indie producers, describes itself as a collective. The way things work is that the three-person team collaborates on all projects — with one person taking lead and the others assuming supporting roles, depending on the film.
“We have been able to become a safety net for each other and for the films and the filmmakers,” explained Gus Deardoff, who runs the company along with Lizzie Shapiro and Lexi Tannenholtz. “It means there’s always someone available, which helps because filmmakers really need instantaneous contact with their producers at all times, and sometimes you get spread very thin. This way, we have several lines of defense.”
The company, which has worked on the feature debuts of Boots Riley (“Sorry to Bother You”) and Emma Seligman (“Shiva Baby”), takes a particular interest in first-time filmmakers.

Rick and Morty has many interesting relationships between family members. From Morty and Summer’s love-hate dynamic to side characters like Pissmaster and Harold the Garbage Goober having their own issues, I have been intrigued by all kinds of interactions in the show. While all of these are fascinating, there is another that interests me the most. I like to believe that there is nothing more complex than a girl’s relationship with her father, especially if he is Rick Sanchez.
Rick’s relationship with Beth stands as one of the most complicated from the show. Even before Rick had two daughters, his connection with Beth showcased an evident power imbalance. However, the moment Space Beth comes in, things become so much more complicated.
Rick goes from being a controlling father with an emotionally anxious daughter to two daughters who hate him and aren’t afraid to voice it. However,...

Eight movies. Five directors. Three dozen character actors. Two dozen exotic locales, each one of them the perfect background for globetrotting espionage. A dozen action set pieces. A half dozen peeled-off masks. One best-of-show brawl set in a public bathroom. Numerous car chases, motorcycle chases, helicopter chases, explosions, collateral-damage relationships, and falls and near-falls from both modest and great heights. Too many running scenes to count. So, so many running scenes.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was a terrible show, right? I mean, the show was great with some iconic comedic moments, but the lead characters were just downright deceitful.
However, that was the premise of the iconic sitcom created by Rob McElhenney. It wasn’t just a fluke that McElhenney happened to create these characters who are topically co-dependent on each other. The creator revealed that the premise of this iconic sitcom came to him in the form of a nightmare.

It’s fair to say that the last decade has been an absolute rollercoaster for Halo fans. 343 Industries’ handling of the franchise took it to its absolute rock bottom, and drove out fans in masses. Although the developer took a major step forward with Halo: Infinite, it was still a mess.
However, last year, 343 Industries underwent a massive change, renaming itself to Halo Studios. The developer announced that all future projects will be built on Unreal Engine 5, abandoning the in-house Slip-Space engine.
Ever since this transition, gamers have been busy wondering what’s coming next for the sci-fi franchise. Fortunately, we finally have an answer: Halo: Combat Evolved.
A Halo: Combat Evolved remake is rumored to be in the works
It’s not the first time we’ve heard rumors about a Combat Evolved remake. Back in October 2024, reputable insider Shpeshal_Nick opened up about the ground-up remake of the game.

There are few names that get Disney historians to raise their eyebrows like Disneytoon. The studio behind the Mouse House's direct-to-home-media racket from 1990 to 2018, Disneytoon was tasked with knocking out sequels, prequels, and spin-offs to its parent company's biggest animated films as quickly and, just as importantly, cheaply as possible. The results weren't exactly Disney magic, but you can't blame the studio's artists for doing what they could. In the end, they made 47 (!) animated movies in three decades, and hey: They helped give us Al's hot dad Cassim (John Rhys-Davies) from "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" and the generational cult classic that is "A Goofy Movie," so you gotta show them some respect.
This brings us to today's specific topic: "Planes." Directed by Klay Hall ("Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure"), it's an odd duck among Disneytoon's output, being a theatrical release based on Pixar's "Cars" franchise. The...

It's generally agreed that John Lasseter's 2006 film "Cars" is one of Pixar's less ambitious movies. Other movies in the Pixar canon tickled the imagination by presenting the secret worlds of commonplace beings. "Toy Story" posited that our toys came to life when we weren't looking (which we always kinda knew was true anyway). "A Bug's Life" saw ants as arranged into a tiny, secret society, while "Finding Nemo" did the same with fish. "Monsters, Inc." said that closet monsters were real, but that they only scare children as an element of a boring, blue-collar job. Back in monster land, the monsters are boring like your dad.
"Cars" was a departure for the studio, as there was no secret being revealed. "Cars" took place in a parallel universe wherein living beings were replaced by anthropomorphic vehicles. They had eyes instead of windshields, and mouths on their bumpers. They seemed to eat gasoline.

Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2024 Locarno Film Festival. “Invention” plays at the Metrograph in New York starting Friday, April 18.
When it comes to meta experiments that blur those good ole lines between fiction and the filmmakers’ own non-fiction life stories, there’s a risk that the resulting feature can border on being impenetrable if audiences aren’t fed a load of exposition in advance. That’s far less of an issue for classically-told narratives from mega-famous artists delving into (semi)autobiography (like Steven Spielberg with “The Fabelmans”), but definitely so for smaller scale projects from independent filmmakers whose output is more peculiar. What can be a compelling behind-the-scenes story as described in a press kit may not necessarily translate into the finished feature as something engaging, or even coherent, to anyone coming to the work without the luxury of reading production notes before the screening.

We’re thirty-seven years down the line from the release of the 1988 cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space (watch it Here), and even though the film’s creators have been anxious to make a follow-up for decades, we still haven’t gotten one. There’s been talk of a sequel, there’s been talk of an eight episode mini-series, but nothing has happened. But now, it looks like the Killer Klowns’ fortunes may be changing for the better. Industry scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reports that Ryan Gosling has come on board to produce a Killer Klowns from Outer Space remake for Amazon MGM Studios.
The original Killer Klowns from Outer Space was directed by Stephen Chiodo from a screenplay he wrote with his brother Charles Chiodo. Stephen and Charles also produced the film with their other brother, Edward Chiodo. It has the following synopsis: When teenagers Mike...

“I’m a rocket man, burning out his fuse up here alone…” —Elton John might’ve crooned it metaphorically, but some of Hollywood’s brightest stars are now literally taking his lyrics for a spin—way beyond Earth’s atmosphere.
Call it vanity or vision, but when fame and fortune shake hands with science, the result is a one-way ticket to the stars—no metaphor, just lift-off. And speaking of lift-offs, Blue Origin’s Ns-31 mission just pulled the ultimate power move: sending an all-female crew, including Katy Perry and Gayle King, into space. Yep. While most of us are debating oat milk vs. almond, these women are suiting up and leaving the entire planet behind.
So here’s the tea — space isn’t just for astronauts anymore. It’s slowly becoming the next VIP lounge and guest list. A wild mix of actors, rockstars, rocket nerds, and legacy-makers.

A new project is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios, with Ryan Gosling stepping in as producer to revive a 1988 horror-comedy. The movie, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, is set to get a remake, sparking excitement (at least for me) among fans of the original.
The 1988 film, directed by Stephen Chiodo, follows a group of alien clowns who land on Earth with sinister plans. They invade a small California town, capturing humans to feed on their blood. Known for its wild mix of scares and laughs, the movie has built a loyal following over the years, earning a strong 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 28 reviews.
Over time, there have been several attempts to revisit the story. The Chiodo Brothers, who created the original, once planned a sequel blending new ideas with the old, set for release in 2012.

Shinichirō Watanabe, the mastermind behind Cowboy Bebop and Space Dandy, is a legend who has proved himself time and time again by creating timeless classics. Not to mention even his other works are exceptionally popular.
But there is no doubt that he excels at creating the kind of absurd, humorous concepts and executes them exceptionally well, almost as if he were parodying reality.
Axel from Lazarus [Credits: Mappa]
He had hopes of returning to his absurd roots, but when Adult Swim came knocking with full funding and a blank check, they made one thing clear: they didn’t want another Dandy. They wanted something serious and something darker. And that’s how the dystopian world of Lazarus was born.

Black Mirrorcreator Charlie Brooker recently revealed that the seventh season of his hit anthology series will be far more "emotive" and "vulnerable" than longtime viewers may be accustomed to.
Black Mirror has never shied away from taking viewers to dark places, as the anthology series often offers a bleak vision of the future regarding the potential of technology. While the series has had its moments where happiness wins the day with episodes like "San Junipero" or "Hang the DJ", the series generally opts for darker outlooks on the future, with warnings of how certain technologies may negatively impact how people live their lives and interact with others. However, the seventh season may be a break from the doom and gloom of previous seasons, according to Brooker. In an interview with The Guardian, Brooker revealed that the newest season has more "emotive" and vulnerable" episodes and that there won't be as...

One time, on "Happy Days," Henry Winkler's Arthur Fonzarelli jumped over a shark while waterskiing. During one episode of "How I Met Your Mother," Josh Radnor and Cobie Smulders' characters Ted Mosby and Robin Scherbatsky start flying at the end of an episode. In "The Big Bang Theory," Howard Wolowitz, Simon Helberg's character (that he almost didn't audition for), goes to space at the end of the show's fifth season and spends a handful of episodes up there in season 6.
I should say that the situation on "The Big Bang Theory" isn't quite as ridiculous as either of those first examples, even though it sounds just as far-fetched as leaping over a shark's fin in midair. Also, to be absolutely fair here, the production staff of "The Big Bang Theory" went to extreme lengths to make Howard's journey to the International Space Station look legitimate. In a 2022 article on Space.com,...

It's safe to say that fans of The Umbrella Academy were sad to see their beloved hit Netflix series take its bow last year after four (or maybe three) acclaimed seasons. The superhero show — which was often laugh-out-loud funny, by the way — featured quite the talented ensemble including Tom Hopper (Space Cadet) and Academy Award-nominee Elliot Page (Juno). Speaking of, Page's fan-favorite character Vanya had a standout character arc in the midst of Season 2, where she was transported back to the 1960s and ultimately met the acquaintance of Sissy (Marin Ireland). From there, a lasting relationship formed, perhaps leading followers of the series to wonder: What if the two were to ever meet again, by some time-traveling happenstance?
MovieWeb recently caught up with Ireland, who has certainly kept busy in Hollywood ever since the conclusion of The Umbrella Academy — including an all-new series on Apple TV+ called Dope Thief.

A new report says that some fan-favorite animated Marvel Cinematic Universe characters may be returning for Avengers: Doomsday. The movie will continue exploring the McU's multiverses.
According to a report from The Cosmic Circus, Marvel Studios is exploring ways to bring their animated properties into Avengers: Doomsday, and it's likely to be done in an animated format respective to their original universe, rather than trying to adapt them into live-action. This means that Avengers: Doomsday could have scenes similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Space Jam, with the animated characters appearing on-screen with the live-action cast.
The report also clarifies that while the animated Loki character Miss Minutes is expected to return for Doomsday, the information is in addition to her interactions on screen, hinting at more animated characters from other Marvel properties. Sailor Moon is not just one of the most popular magical girl anime in existence, but one of the most famous anime ever. The storyline follows the adventures of Usagi Tsukino, who initially believes that she is an average teenager. A chance meeting with a cosmic cat named Luna informs the student that she is actually anything but, and is destined to fight several powerful foes in order to find a missing princess from the moon.
Thanks to its narrative, designs, and unforgettable cast of characters, Sailor Moon has remained a staple of the anime industry to this day. However, there is a key theme in the storyline that can be rather confusing at times, that being the element of time travel. Time itself, according to the Sailor Moon narrative, is not something that should be manipulated, and yet the Sailor Guardians are often able to do so without trouble — most of the time.

Dynamite Entertainment started the Space Ghost run back in early 2024 and I was on the fence about picking it up. I enjoyed Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, but not quite as much as the original Hanna-Barbera cartoon (and the two are vastly different). However, my appreciation of writer David Pepose (The Devil That Wears My Face and Moon Knight: City Of The Dead) was enough for me to give it a shot. 11 issues later, I'm more sure than ever that starting the series was a great decision.

Shinichiro Watanabe is a name synonymous with his epic, genre-redefining works. He started the trends that continue to influence anime even today. From Cowboy Bebop to Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy, his works have always been stylish and classy, with the appropriate amount of depth and heavy themes.
Axel Gilberto | Credits: Studio Mappa Studio
This balanced manner of storytelling is what gives the audience the full Watanabe experience. From the beginning to the end, the magic of the music, the laid-back characters, and the intricate plot all seem realistic as they slowly intertwine and give rise to a unique narrative.
This has been Watanabe’s way; he does not rush and hurry to skip out the parts that could flesh out the characters and deepen the essence of the narrative. The quirky characters and the effortless cool factor are important. Unfortunately, Lazarus seems to be taking a more serious approach.

Jeff Bridges is set to release a new album of archival recordings titled Slow Magic, 1977-1978. It drops in full on April 12th via Light in the Attic, but you can hear the previously unreleased song “Obnoxious” below.
The 11-track collection pulls from a recently unearthed, decaying cassette, which was simply labeled “July 1978.” Bridges started working on the songs at a house in Malibu with a group of high school friends including guitarists Stan Ayeroff and David Greenwalt, bassist Matthew Bright, and drummer Steve Baim.
He then rented a warehouse in Venice, California after filming 1976’s King Kong for recording sessions that produced “Obnoxious” and the title track. These sessions were overseen by Bob Dylan collaborator Ken Lauber.
“Pretty wild that this thing that happened around 50 years ago wants to bloom,” Bridges said in a press release. “I guess weirdness is what’s happening these days. You never can tell what’s gonna happen.

Lofton congratulated Wheaton for “pioneering the space of the young kids in space…you paved the way in space for young men.” Wesley followed up by reflecting when a fan questioned him about Jake Sisko at a ComiCon “I kind of feel like Wesley Crusher crawled so that Jake Sisko could walk, so that Adira Tal from Star Trek Discovery could fly…”

Since Star Trek: The Next Generation took off in 1987, there hasn't been a Star Trek series that hasn't had some type of connection to The Original Series, even if it was by a thin thread. Star Trek: The Next Generation was for the new crew aboard the Enterprise, which was the orginal starship. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was connected to The Next Generation through Chief O'Brien and the Battle of Wolf 359, which killed Commander Sisko's wife, Jennifer. Captain Jean-Luc Picard had been assimilated by the Borg at the time and was involved in the death of over eleven thousand people. The bond was strengthened when Lt. Commander Worf came to Deep Space Nine.
Star Trek: Voyager crew members visited Quark's Bar on Deep Space Nine before their voyage began, and Reginald Barclay, who had served aboard the Enterprise on The Next Generation, showed up in several episodes as did Counselor Deanna Troi.
