When Robert De Niro came out swinging, rhetorically, at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in 2016, it was the most stirring and surprising performance he'd given in years. "He's so blatantly stupid," he said in a campaign ad. "He's a punk. He's a dog. He's a pig. A con. A bulls**t artist. A mutt who doesn't know what he's talking about." Then he lowered the boom: "I'd like to punch him in the face."
Though the actor had long been on the record as a Democrat, he'd never been this emphatic about a political position in his public life. In fact, he'd never been emphatic about much of anything. Anyone who'd watched the actor squirm his way through an interview knew full well that the man wasn't much of a talker. When he did speak, he tended to be soft-spoken. He seemed almost embarrassed to be holding forth on any subject,...

New Orleans — For more than two decades, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival has closed with a performance by the city's own Neville Brothers.
On Sunday, that tradition changed. Aaron Neville performed on a stage with his new band while young brass band frontman Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews closed the festival's biggest stage – where the Neville Brothers once held court the last day.
Andrews and his band, Orleans Avenue, entertained a jam-packed crowd as the festival ended its 2013 run. A sea of faces stretched to the track's back fence.
Neville said he views the closing lineup change as kind of a "passing of the guard.
"Trombone Slim, as I call him, will do a great job," Neville said of Andrews. "I remember when it was Professor Longhair out there and then we did it for a long time. It's time. Slim is a big musician and I'm proud of the way he's handled himself.

"Punk'd" is back on MTV and kicks off its revamped premiere with guest host Justin Bieber. He immediately sets his sights on country cutie Taylor Swift, who seems like she should be nice and gullible for a punking.
The set up is a wedding taking place on a boat off the coast of Malibu that is hosting a wedding is going to "catch on fire" from Bieber and Swifty's fireworks that they've been setting off and the wedding party is going to be jumping into the ocean. Bieber says of the punking, "There's no chance that she won't cry."
Unfortunately, he is wrong. The wedding party starts to come to shore, mad as heck, and Taylor kind of freaks out, but she doesn't quite panic the way we were hoping she would and they reveal the punking before she can really lose her mind. Honestly, the wedding party didn't really play that right either.

Directed by Paco Plaza
Starring Leticia Dolero, Diego Martin, Ismael Martinez
After the global success of the original [Rec], a standard was set for found-footage zombie infection films that spread through outlets like Romero's Diary of the Dead. The American remake of [Rec], Quarantine, was unable to capture the intensity and raw emotion of the first film but gave it a damn good shot. The first sequel to the original [Rec] moved even further away from the American franchise, adding more and more religion into the mix and explaining the zombies as some sort of damned thing from the pits of Hell.
With the third installment of the Spanish films, director Paco Plaza moves away from the found-footage aspect after the first twenty minutes or so, giving us blissful reprieve from shaky handheld cameras and night-vision shots up people's nostrils. The film opens with a gorgeous young couple, Clara and Koldo, getting married...

Chicago – If your heart flutters when you think about the drive-in days of old, with a triple feature of B-movie horror films, then writer/director Ricardo Islas delivers a nostalgic kick with “Frankenstein: Day of the Beast.” The film has its world premiere in Chicago on Sunday, November 27th, at the Portage Theater on Milwaukee Avenue.
Rating: 3.0/5.0
It has all the familiar Frankenstein monster elements, but also delivers a certain style and authority that allows it to make its own mark. The acting, setting, costumes and dialogue screams drive-in movie fare, but the production gamely reaches out to retell the myth with a little sex, a lot of gore and an interesting take on the reanimation portion of the monster. There is a vague application as to the time and place of where the film is set, and the actors are very comfortable being their Midwestern selves, but this horror...

London — A hint of autumnal Beatlemania was in the air Sunday as Paul McCartney, for the second time in his improbable life, climbed the steps of venerable Old Marylebone Town Hall to take himself a bride.
True, thousands of heartbroken female fans crowded the columned building in 1969 when he married Linda Eastman, and only a few hundred showed up Sunday as he wed another American, Nancy Shevell, at the very same registry office.
But the feeling this time was not regret at the loss of a bachelor heartthrob. Instead there was joy that McCartney, regarded as a national treasure and revered the world over, seemed happy again.
The 69-year-old former Beatle appeared proud, content and eager to share his joy with the crowd, raising his bride's hand in triumph as he walked down the steps after they became man and wife in a simple civil ceremony attended by close family and friends,...

The latest news and celebrity gossip reports have been a buzz with small talk and casual conversations about the Kardashian wedding. Kim Kardashian married Kris Humphries at a private wedding ceremony on a lovely Summer day in August. The wedding party was rumored to be wearing green in the weeks leading up to the glamorous festivities, but when the actual wedding night came the entire wedding followed a simple black and white color scheme without a hint of green. As has become the story in recent years, familiar Cannes-family names grace the line-up of the official competition of the 64th edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
A dozen of the nineteen films announced are alumni of the festival: Almodovar, Bonello, Cavalier, Ceylan, the Dardenne brothers, Kaurismaki, Kawase, Malick, Moretti, Ramsay, Sorrentino and von Trier all returning to premiere their art, and Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne taking a shot at a third Palme d’Or. Add Japan’s Takashi Miike to the mix, and the Danish director of the much-heralded “Pusher” franchise, Nicolas Winding Refn, very few slots can be identified as festival discoveries.
While this trend continues to disappoint people looking to Cannes Official Competition to break ground (two first time filmmakers are included in the line-up), it has also forced journalists to find inspiration in the Un Certain Regard section of the fest. With Sean Durkin’s Sundance...
