  • With that title, LOST IN THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE certainly has promise. In my opinion there are too few fictional films dealing with the infamous area of the sea where so many planes and ships have been lost. Plenty of documentaries, yes, but not enough full-fledged movies.

Unfortunately this dull family drama hardly rights the balance, because LOST IN THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE is an almost entirely worthless production. A late '90s-era TV movie, it tells the tragic tale of a couple whose life is thrown into chaos when the wife falls pregnant and is diagnosed with cancer at the same time. A yacht trip to Bermuda is in order, but the pair are caught in a storm and the wife vanishes.

A promising opening maybe, but what follows is almost entirely without incident. The husband employs a couple of nobodies to sail around searching for his wife for a while, while some detectives conduct a half-assed investigation into the disappearance. It ends with the silliest, cheesiest scene ever, full of plot holes that ultimately scupper the entire movie. The sci-fi elements of the plot are limited to a couple of cheesy electrical effects while the acting and calibre of the script are strictly bottom level.
  • This film begins with a young man fishing in his boat somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle when a strange electric storm hits and he suddenly disappears. The scene then shifts to Chicago where a young woman named "Mary Foster" (Charlotte d'Amboise) discovers that she is pregnant. Unfortunately, the problem with that is that she also suffers from cancer and as a result she and her husband "Brian Foster" (Tom Verica) must decide whether she should submit to chemotherapy--and lose the baby--or to risk everything and attempt to give birth. So rather than make a quick decision they decide to take a few days off to consider their options--and their short vacation involves fishing in the waters off Bermuda. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this movie started off okay but after about 45 minutes or so everything just fell apart. It was much too mundane from that point on. In short, this wasn't a good film and I have rated it accordingly. Below average.

The movie starts with some interesting potential. Bring in Nikola Tesla and it has the possibility to get interesting. Blasted thing had me up late waiting for some grand conclusion or interesting revelation. Instead, whew, lame, lame, lame is all I can say about the ending. I wasted two hours for this drivel? I want my two hours back!!!

The MOST inane thing of the movie is that Mary, a very fair-skinned blonde, (who just learned she was pregnant when she vanished) and her husband, also of reasonably fair complexion allegedly have this son now seven years old when the husband comes to "rescue" Mary. No disrespect to the actor who portrayed the kid, but he doesn't look at all like he could be the biological kid of these parents. A child who looked more like "Dennis the Menace" from the old TV show would have been much more plausible. Further I was hoping that Mary would go back to Chicago, somehow or other miraculously cured of her cancer to the bewilderment of the medical establishment, but she just vanishes again. Literally. There are also a whole boatload of unanswered questions which the film doesn't even think to ask - maybe we're better off - their answers might have been worse than the questions. Like, what happened to the guy we see at the start of the movie? How does Jenny suddenly "materialize" for Sykes? I could go on but you get the drift...

Bottom line on this picture, they started with some good ideas, worked in some interesting potential, and then got lost in the Bermuda Triangle looking for a decent ending. If the picture hadn't started to roll the credits I'd think they should still be out looking.

If it floats up on a TV set near you PASS IT BY!!!

Bloody hell. Who..? In their right mind, came up with this dribble. Thats all i have to say.
  • Got to confess right up front that I didn't watch this entire movie. I missed the first hour during a Sci Fi Channel broadcast. Or was I spared the first hour? The other reviewers sum this one up nicely. It was badly conceived. Badly scripted. Badly acted.

But the worst thing for me was the ADR. The entire film, which appeared to have been dubbed, sounded like it was done in somebody's garage. There was a voluminous echo to the words, which just served to make the bad dialog hang. And hang. And hang. Even a made for TV movie should have recognized this.

And the idea that alternate dimensions are differentiated by color saturation went out in the 80s, folks.

If you feel like wasting 86 minutes on a film that makes no sense, is badly written ,with a bad plot and bad acting then this little gem is for you. Recommended for those who are about to fall asleep. Major annoyance will be felt by the awake viewer. Do not pay to see this movie!
  • The Bermuda Triangle ,we are told in this waste of celluloid, is the portal to another time and dimension and can be crossed using cheap special effects by bad actors spouting inane dialogue

I simply was unable to decide who the makers of this excresence thought would be its target audience as it seems impossible anybody could derive even a modicum of pleasure from the outcome Avoid-its not even bad enough to be good.
  • This is the worst movie that I have ever seen. At first i thought that it was going to be good because I'm interested in the bermuda triangle, but instead it was terrible. All it did was offer a bunch of lame explinations that didn't make sense (if time moves differently there how come the woman didn't age, and her son aged rapidly), and have a horrible sappy ending. Next time the guys who made this go to Bermuda they should take all copies of this movie with them. Please everyone vote for this movie so it can get on the worst movie list.

Had potential considering the Bermuda thing draws such intrigue but was the film was very lame. The reviews say it all really. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed- (see 'Bobwildhorrors' review)- very acoustic, tinny echoy' sound, what was that all about?!

Seeing as mysterious happeningshave been attributed to the Bermuda triangle since the late 50s, the scope for films to make up a theory is immense. This one uses the often quoted magnetic disturbances aspect allowing an element of inter dimensional travel. Actual story is pretty formulaic, although does avoid the usual lost island dinosaur fable. Actually the thing that annoyed me the.most in this film is its mentioned that the so called scientific expert has been exploring magnetic disturbances in the given area especially the 500 or so square miles of the triangle. Now I'm assuming noone is really taking this to be a documentary, but seeing as it underestimated the area of the Bermuda triangle by a factor of 10, you'd have thought they would've at least checked that small detail. The first significant event is the guys wife goes missing whilst out on a boat of the coast of Bermuda and sees an island in the 'mist' After finding the interdimensional island the guys wife who was pregnant when she went missing appears on the island with their son who is now about 7. Why the wife doesn't return with them is left ambiguous although the unspoken implication is as she had cancer in real life yet survived on the island, if she went back with them the cancer would return. Although early in the fil its stated that the treatment would be a success if she wasn't pregnant. As she gives birth, all alone? On the island, the return in theory wouldnt cause a problem. Generally dire film with no redeeming features
  • I was unsure about watching this movie, due to the lack of information on it. I went ahead and took a chance. I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was about not losing hope and believing even when it didn't make sense. The story was far reached but I really don't think the movie was about a hidden portal. I think the movie had a more sense of depth. It was about giving all of yourself for someone you love. Even the ending showed this. I know this movie is not bound for any awards but it is still a good movie to watch, especially with that special someone in your life.
