(Toronto, On – October 12, 2023) Today, Nigerian born, Los Angeles-based artist TOBi delivers his bold new album Panic via RCA Records. Out now, the soulful, funkafied 12-track project further cements TOBi as a chilling storyteller with cleverly-written and tightly-woven bars as he continues to take us through pivotal moments in his life’s journey, but where TOBi becomes taciturn on certain tracks, the fullness of the production, instruments and layered harmonies, convey what’s left unspoken.

TOBi on Panic: “Panic is the epitome of unapologetic soul music and we held nothing back, which I am truly proud of. From the stories of vulnerability, masculinity, personal family issues, social commentary, there was no stone left unturned here. "You don't recognize me, do you? Even though we've met a thousand times..." Breaking Glass Pictures has revealed a new trailer for a strange time travel sci-fi thriller titled Variant, which is written & directed by a filmmaker named Tony Leech (he also co-directed 2005's Hoodwinked). This hasn't been seen many places yet and doesn't look like it's really anything worth talking about, another of these junk indie sci-fi films that will be instantly forgotten upon release. Huh. When an artist struggling for purpose meets a mysterious yet charming stranger, she becomes entangled in his twisted attempts to "relive the perfect moment". It's hard to tell from this trailer - is he an android? Does he have a time machine? Are they in a simulation? Wtf is going on in this. Ashlynn Yennie stars with Dino Antoniou, Sonalii Castillo, Josh Zuckerman, and Chelsea Yakura-Kurtz. This really looks like one big mess.

June Carter Cash was destined to be a country music star. She was the daughter of Maybelle Carter, who revolutionized the way country music musicians played their guitars, and, later, the wife and better half of superstar Johnny Cash.
Today, Carter's life and career have become intertwined with the Man in Black, but she made her professional debut at the Grand Ole Opry and toured with Elvis Presley before hooking up with Cash. So when Reese Witherspoon was tapped to play Carter in the Johnny Cash biopic, "Walk the Line," she knew she had some pretty big stage shoes to fill.
Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Witherspoon certainly knew that portraying a member of country music royalty was a big job, but she was up for it. However, she was far less confident about singing Carter's famous songs, which she had not initially agreed to do.

“It’s a true revival in the sense that it is taking existing material and making something new with it,” explains Claybourne Elder of the gender-bent Broadway revival of “Company.” Elder portrays Andy (April in the original version of the show), a hysterically dim-witted but sincere lover of Katrina Lenk’s Bobbie. The actor reveals that swapping the genders of the characters in this Stephen Sondheim musical, helps shape the story in a way contemporary audiences can appreciate. As the actor describes the events in his life which lead him to this point in his career, it feels like destiny that he should star in this particular production. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Elder admits that as a young theater kid, he would sing along to cast albums at home, but he would only be singing “the fun parts.” Little Red in “Into the Woods,” Dot in “Sunday in the Park With George,...

Dead and Company played at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center in Darien Lake, New York, on Wednesday night, and midway through the second set they honored Charlie Watts by performing the 1965 Rolling Stones classic “The Last Time.”

The Coen brothers regular plays a delusional ex-librarian who goes questing on a motorbike and sidecar in this good-natured retelling of the classic adventure
Set in the present day, in some American backwoods town where the accents have a softly southern cadence, this likable effort reworks Miguel de Cervantes’s immortal much-adapted novel with veteran character actor and Coen brothers regular Tim Blake Nelson in the title role. It is written and directed by Chris Poche, at the helm for the first time after writing duties on an assortment of animated features including Hoodwinked and Over the Hedge. Poche’s iteration of Quixote imagines the hero, Danny Kehoe, as an unemployed ex-librarian living with his niece Janelle (Ann Mahoney). He is delusional and disturbed rather than, as other versions have posited, having dementia.

A kid named Lucky loses her mother, moves to the frontier with her father and befriends a wild mustang in “Spirit Untamed.” While experienced professionals fail to break the strong-willed stallion, Lucky (who has never ridden a horse) feeds it a few apples, and before long, the youngster has tamed the obstinate animal — which is inconsistent with this cheap and all-around lazy animated movie’s title, but chalk that up to marketing.
While Disney churns out live-action remakes of its most popular cartoons, DreamWorks Animation has another strategy: For every modestly successful theatrical release, it spins off an episodic TV series to Netflix or Nickelodeon to keep the characters alive and the merch in demand.
With “Spirit Untamed,” the studio comes full circle, producing an animated movie based on the animated series (“Spirit Riding Free”) based on the 2002 animated feature “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.” It’s not clear whether...

Have you ever wanted to watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt to sing and dance with a host of Jim Henson creations? Because if that was some weird dream of yours, you hit the nail right on the head, and could probably be a studio executive with that kind of mind.
Variety reported on Thursday that Gordon-Levitt will produce and star in a live-action Fraggle Rock movie. The site adds that the bigscreen adaptation of the musical puppet series created by the late Jim Henson has been in the works for nearly a decade, but the attachment of Gordon-Levitt constitutes a major boost.
Fraggle Rock debuted on TV in 1983 as a co-production by British TV company Television South, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., HBO and Henson Associates. It centered on the adventures of cave-dwelling creatures called Fraggles who have to deal with the industrious Doozers and furry giants called Gorgs.

The history of the "Fraggle Rock" movie has been a bumpy one. Cory Edwards ("Hoodwinked!") tried to make one at The Weinstein Company, but said back in 2010 that he was "struggling to stay in control of my own movie" and that the studio wanted to hire a new writer to make the movie "edgier." A year later, his iteration was pretty much scrapped (and we presume the involvement of the Scissors Sisters doing the music). Then in late 2011, New Regency took on the troubled property and hired some writers, but nothing much came of it and things went quiet for a couple of years. Last fall, word quietly emerged that "Fraggle Rock" was back in the hands of The Jim Henson Company and the movie was on track again. And indeed, it certainly is. Variety reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will produce and star in a live-action "Fraggle Rock," with New...

First time I wrote about the possibility of a "Fraggle Rock" movie was back in 2006 when The Jim Henson Company officially announced a full length feature based on the stars of the 1980s HBO television show was in development with Ahmet Zappa working on the screenplay. Nothing happened ended up happening with that project, though two years later The Weinstein Co. picked up the rights to the live-action musical feature and brought on Hoodwinked director Cory Edwards to write and direct. Once again, nothing came of it. Now, here we are, seven years later and we are talking about the Fraggles yet again as it seems they just won't go away. This time around it's Joseph Gordon-Levitt on board to produce and star in the live-action "Fraggle Rock" movie for New Regency, The Henson Co. and Lisa Henson. The attachment of an actual star certainly gives the project far more...

It's a movie about anthropomorphic amphibians from the company famous for bringing The Muppets to our screens, but there's not so much as a flash of Kermit the frog to be seen. The Jim Henson Company is preparing to adapt the children's books Frog and Toad for the multiplexes, according to Variety.
There are four instalments in Arnold Lobel's series, published between 1970 and 1979 and still hugely popular with children. All focus on the title characters, a friendly frog and his rather more curmudgeonly toad friend. Lobel, who died in 1987, wrote and illustrated each of the books.
"Frog and Toad has tremendous value with parents who read these charming stories when they were children and are now sharing them with their own kids," said Lisa Henson of the Jim Henson Company.

While we’re pleased to see the Jim Henson Company continuing to expand its filmmaking horizons, the team’s latest announcement does have us worrying whether Kermit – heretofore the company’s most famous amphibian actor – will throw a diva fit at the news. Because the new Henson project is an adaptation of children’s books series Frog And Toad. Originally written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel in the 1970s, the books chronicle the exploits of a pair of web-footed friends who are, less-than-shockingly, a frog and a toad. The book’s tales are easy-to-comprehend slice-of-life stories, with the pair flying a kite, cleaning a house and arguing about the shortcomings of string theory. All right, maybe not the last one.Craig Bartlett, a man no stranger to writing for a younger audience (he’s worked on Us kids’ shows such as Dinosaur Train, Sid The Science Kid and Hey Arnold!

Parents everywhere, rejoice! The Jim Henson Company just announced that they have gained the rights to develop an animated feature film adaptation of the beloved children’s series Frog and Toad.
Written and illustrated by Arnold Lobel, the Frog and Toad series focused on the adventures of two best friends, a frog and a toad named… Frog and Toad. The books were originally published in the 1970s, each containing five short stories detailing a new exploit involving the two title characters.

'Rango' Collaborators Jim Byrkit & Alex Manugian Hired To Write Long-Developing 'Fraggle Rock' Movie
After years spent in development purgatory (everyone from Ahmet Zappa to "Hoodwinked" writer/director Cory Edwards have worked on the project, from as far back as 2006), it finally looks like the "Fraggle Rock" movie, based on the beloved Jim Henson series, will make it to the big screen. Last year New Regency got the project going again, and just yesterday the Hollywood Reporter revealed that a pair of screenwriters have been secured – Jim Byrkit and Alex Manugian, who both worked on last year's Oscar-winning animated western "Rango."
Byrkit received a story credit on "Rango," alongside director Gore Verbinski and credited writer John Logan (he also worked as a storyboard artist for the film). In fact, Byrkit has done design work for Verbinski on all three of the filmmaker's 'Pirates of the Carribean' movies (and provided illustrations for Verbinski's big screen debut, "Mousehunt"). This year, he also wrote and directed an...

Having spent the last year sat in screening rooms and cinemas watching over 200 of 2011′s cinematic offerings, it stands to reason that I’m going to have to sit through a fair share of duds. As I had seen the vast majority of the key Oscar plays before November, I spent the latter part of the year dedicating myself to seeking out the worst, most lowest common denominator fare ripe for a skewering, and with these twenty dreadful pictures, we have what are, in my opinion, the 20 biggest train wrecks of 2011. Note that Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star is still awaiting worldwide DVD release and didn’t get distribution in the U.K., so that’s one that I was forced to avoid, but I’m assured that it’s irredeemably horrible nevertheless. Anyway, on with the list…

Since 2005 we've been hearing rumours about a possible Fraggle Rock feature film from The Jim Henson Company, and although it has always seemed a bit hard to imagine, now that a new Muppets movie is about to hit theatres somehow it doesn't seem quite so crazy anymore. A few years ago, The Weinstein Company came on board as a distributor and hired director Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked!) to helm it. However, they have since let the rights lapse and now the project has changed hands. According to Deadline, New Regency have now acquired the rights to the Fraggle Rock movie -- yes, the same folks behind the wildly successful Alvin & The Chipmunks movies. But what does this mean for Cory Edwards and his vision of the film? At this point, even he doesn't know. Edwards had been struggling to get the project made for years but was met with much resistance from The Weinsteins.

Talk of a Fraggle Rock movie has been bouncing about for some time now. The last time we heard news on the proposed movie adaptation of Jim Henson’s long-running puppet-based HBO series, it appeared that Jake Shears and Babydaddy of The Scissor Sisters were being brought in to pen songs for the Weinstein Company, which was developing the project with Hoodwinked writer/director Cory Edwards …to little avail. But now Deadline has announced that New Regency has bought the rights for Fraggle Rock at auction, with no further mention of the Weinsteins or Edwards.
The Jim Henson Company and the Montecito Picture Company are set to produce the film, helping New Regency, the studio behind In Time and Love & Other Drugs, expand the kid-friendly side of their business, which got a jump start with the Alvin & The Chipmunk movies. It may be Regency’s involvement in the latter that...

A New York judge rejected several pre-trial motions in a $50 million lawsuit filed by the filmmakers behind a still-unreleased animated film, Escape From Planet Earth against the Weinstein Company, paving the way for the case to go to trial. TWC and its fellow defendants had attempted to have the claims — that the companies violated their contract with the filmmakers and “sabotaged” the release of their own movie with “Bialystock & Bloom” financial shenanigans — dismissed or at least moved to a California court. But New York State Judge Paul Feinman denied their motions — as well as one from the plaintiff requesting that...

In A Better World (Sony) Winner of last year’s Best Foreign Film Oscar, this Danish export looks at two fractured families and the effect that the adult world dysfunction has on their two sons, who form an immediate and potentially deadly bond. Director Susanne Bier delivers another powerful work that maintains its drive during the films’ first 2/3, then falters somewhat during the last act. Still, well-worth seeing, and beautifully made. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Deleted scenes; Commentary by Bier and editor Pernille Bech Christensen; Interview with Bier. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.

Chicago – Rarely has a theatrical kids movie been more of a complete disaster than “Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD. The film was such a train wreck that it sat on the shelf for years and was unceremoniously dumped in theaters in early 2011 with nearly no marketing and no promotion. The film barely crested $10 million at the domestic box office (only 20% of the original’s take) and I feel sorry for those paying customers. This is a truly soulless, horrendous piece of animated filmmaking, one of the worst films of 2011.

The Hoodwinked franchise hasn't really managed to take off like a lot of other animated ventures, and that's something of a shame really, because both films deliver for the target audience. We've gotten to a point in the theatrical release world where, because there have been so many releases that work wonderfully for both children and adults, that all films have to in order to be given a fair share of credit. I think it's gone wrong there really.
Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, let's face it, isn't especially entertaining for adults. It plays the game to a certain degree, with a few lines that aren't really going to make sense to the youngest audiences, but it's actually geared fully toward younger humor and/or sensibilities, with the main laughs by way of crashing or falling, and the story spelled out rather simplistically.
Why that should necessarily be counted as a negative is somewhat confusing,...

Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil has arrived on Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay. I had the chance to watch the sequel for the first time today and here is my review. This movie has some redeeming elements, but it is also a little bad too.
Here is the story overview:
The sequel finds our heroine, Red (Hayden Panettiere), training with a mysterious covert group called the Sisters of the Hood. But Red is forced to cut her training short when she gets an urgent call from Nicky Flippers (David Ogden Stiers), the head of the super secret Happily Ever After Agency, aka the Hea. A wicked witch (Joan Cusack) has abducted two innocent children, Hansel (Bill Hader) and Gretel (Amy Poehler), and Nicky needs the whole Hoodwinked gang -- Red, Granny (Glenn Close), the ever-clueless Wolf (Patrick Warburton) and his over-caffeinated little partner, Twitchy (Cory Edwards) -- for the search and rescue mission.

So, the new Muppets movie is definitely a thing that exists as evidenced by the film's wacky spoof trailers and the absurd level of excitement exhibited by your most annoying officemates. Now comes another thing for those overgrown manchildren to start freaking out about: A Fraggle Rock movie.
There's been talk of returning to the cave-dwelling monster-things for a few years now, but things stalled out when director Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked) clashed with the producing Weinstein Company. The proof that apparently someone is still planning for this thing to happen? Jake Shears and Babydaddy of the Scissor Sisters have been hired to write new music for the film. One of the most popular glam/disco/electroclash bands from back in the heady days of 2005 when we all thought that glam/disco/electroclash bands were a thing, the Scissor Sisters still make music, but are mostly known today for putting butts on their album covers.

It's been nearly a year since we last reported on the feature film version of Fraggle Rock. Director Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked!) went on a very understandable rant last June, upset about the fact that super producer siblings the Weinsteins felt his Fraggle Rock script wasn't quite "edgy" enough. The future of the project was then called into question as Edwards had the following to say on his website a few months ago: "Many, many, many of you have repeatedly asked for...

There were rumors of a movie based on Fraggle Rock, the children’s television show that ran from 1983 to 1987. Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked) was set to write and direct, but apparently The Weinsteins wanted a new take on the film — edgy and aimed at an older audience. Say what?
The last news was that the project had stalled. But new reports from /Film is that Jake Shears and Babydaddy from the Scissor Sisters have joined to create the musical numbers.
There’s not much news to go on, but it does hint that the production is starting up again, so we might still see some weird disco-y glam punk in our Fraggle Rock reboot. I’m not even really against that.

The trailer for The Muppets was a bit underwhelming, but it was written by and stars Jason Segel, so I’m hoping for the best. For awhile it looked like a film version of Jim Henson‘s even-weirder Fraggle Rock might happen. And then it wasn’t happening. The last time we heard anything was from Hoodwinked writer/director Cory Edwards, who seemed to be butting heads with the Weinsteins over his vision of an “older-skewing, edgier movie,” (which actually sounds awesome, since Fraggle Rock was always one of the strangest damn things I remember from my childhood). This was apparently the last word:
There’s nothing to report except that The Weinstein Company has everything they need to move forward, and the ball is in their court. They’ve talked about getting a new writer, which I’m willing to do. They’ve talked about starting over from scratch,...

There was a time when it looked like the new Muppets movie would have company in theaters from a new Fraggle Rock film. Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked) was set to write and direct the film for The Weinstein Company. But Mr. Edwards started to talk about how the Weinsteins wanted something different from what he was doing -- an older-skewing, edgier movie [1] -- and over the past year the movie has stalled altogether.
