  • One of the best thriller of 2019. This drama is amazing with everythinglike; Plot,Story,Background Music & Casting. The 'Goblin' sensation Lee Dong Wook wil be seen in an avatar which is never seen before in big screen. A must watch drama for thriller lovers. There are some gruesome scenes, so watch at your own risk. Enjoy Watching......
  • Starts off as boring like every great dramas. The ending is phenomenal. If you are looking for a psychological thriller, horror, suspense, this is the best one to go for. The series is very small has only 10 episodes. Each and every actor of the 'Eden studio's has done superb job at acting. OSTs are addicting!!! Lee Dong Wook proves himself in this drama that he can essay more intense roles than just the chocolate boy in love. He has done an incredible job and I can undoubtedly say that this drama is one of his best works. The intensity, the emotions he has given it all to his character. Ending is splendid as I said. Deserves much more attention. I hope they come up with season 2 soon. Pls. Can they? T_T

Claustrophobic and unsettling in almost every scene. Even the most standard and regular shots or dialogues left me with a feeling of sickness. Whenever I thought I adjusted myself to the grim atmosphere they turned it up a notch. Could have been a bit more streamlined towards the middle/end episodes (esp not sure about some of the flashbacks or dream sequences). The finale was a bit underwhelming, not bad or anything, it was just not as creepy & subtle as the overall series in my POV. Nice twist though. In summary: Throughout creepy partly horrific at times unbearable. Hell is other people, the lit. translation is a way better title and provides actually some meaning and logic to the overall story. If you look for a truly horrific and disturbing show go for it!
  • Its one of the best thriller series of all time. I thought SIGNAL was the best thriller series I ever watched. But this was also awesome. I saw other language thrillers, but they were never this intense. Story, screenplay, acting,.... everything was good. Korean thrillers are best Now a days, movies within 2 hours can't keep us engaging. But not these series. Every episode has intense/engaging scenes
  • If you enjoy watching psychological triller series, Stranger from Hell is definitely for you. If you don't like this kind of genre, just skip it.

I have read some reviews about Strangers from Hell. Some people mentioned that they don't like the ending. But, for me, the ending is naturally perfect. That's why I give 10/10 rating. 🔥

Characters development, script, acting are so good. The settings and atmosphere of the series will give you creepy feeling. One of the best trillers ever!

Another korean masterpiece!! The creepiest tv series I've ever watched!! The twist at the end gave me a watch-gasme!! No one can portray those characters like Korean actors!! A must watch creepy tv series !!
  • I really loved the grim reaper from Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (Goblin) aka Lee Dong-wook so much so that I had to watch his Touch Your Heart and now this. This was a completely different role that he took on and I loved it. It was dark, his character reminded me a lot of Mads Mikkelsen's Hannibal Lector. A beautiful man with a dark soul. Yoon Jong-woo (Im Siwan) just needed someone to listen to him, to believe him, to understand his feelings. We see a 27 year old man go from being excited and happy about his new internship, moving away from home and closer to his girlfriend to a man that doesn't seem stable enough to be in society. If some of the characters just heard him out, would they be able to save him? I found myself being reminded of some of the bullying that is experienced in the adult working world. It's scary what the real world is actually like.
  • A young man moves from the countryside to Seoul to be near his girlfriend but finds it difficult to locate affordable accommodation. In desperation he moves into a rundown building in an area waiting to be redeveloped. He soon wishes he hadn't as the building is occupied by some very strange residents indeed. A well acted series which is claustrophobic and the tenants really are menacing. It is only a short series at ten episodes but I found it a difficult watch as there is no let up on the foreboding and dark air.

    good
I suppose this drama is saying something about the potential for violence within us all or something. It's well acted, has good characters. But for me, it never really catches fire. The ending was kind of a mild surprise for me.
  • This was one of the most intense and amazing psychological thrillers I have seen. The acting is fantastic, and the cinematography combined with a perfectly haunting soundtrack created an atmosphere that is crackling with energy and tension. I was absolutely spellbound from the first five minutes until the last. The story isn't necessarily that complex, and it could be argued that the ending was a bit predictable, but the journey is what is important in this series. The psychological torture and metamorphosis is so heart-pounding and brilliant that you just can't look away. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
  • The acting is mostly on point. It's very creepy and atmospheric. The sound design fits the situations aptly and the visuals were on point save for some poor CGI at the end. The blurring is ridiculous but apparently that's standard. What I really didn't enjoy was the ending. The series started off with a lot of suspense and character building. Slowly some characters are left out and there are too many loose ends left unexplained. The show dragged on towards the end and I found myself trying to get through it rather than actually looking forward to watching it. The ending was very disappointing. Very ambiguous and some will say that you just didn't understand it or it's up to you to decide. I personally think it's lazy writing but hey that's me. Watch it for yourself!

The main character did not do what 99% of us would have done. Like not keeping going back, not sharing with friendly cop. It got so annoying that after 6 episodes or so, I was hoping the "good guy" would just get an axe in the head for being so naive.

For me, the series was quite creepy, and unsettlingly sick. Sure there were plot holes that could have been connected and explained, but the visuals were fitting. Lee Dong Wook played quite the murderous character and some of his expressions were downright hideous.
  • Best korean drama thriller seo moon jo is so detail actually wish for season 2, i want to know the backstory of seo moon jo chilhood in orphanage, and what ahjuma did in orphanage and the story of girls studio which get burn and ofc where seo moon jo go and become after season 1
  • Throughout most of this, my hand was over my open mouth. It's utterly shocking and terrifying in a way that's similar to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. I've watched (and loved) tonnes of k dramas and Korean films and this has the narrative punch of Oldboy, none of the innocence of Mr Sunshine and the familiar frustration of an overall inept police force. Absolutely incredible cinematography, soundtrack and casting. I absolutely loved it (but I had to watch it in the morning only with tea and toast because it was so disturbing!!!!) Aggggghhh the twins and the pervert. Mother of God! I shudder.... Don't miss this.
  • It has a great start but ending disappointed me.. Lot of things didn't make sense.. Great acting though...the background music made it so intriguing!
  • Warning: Spoilers
It's not easy to complete this series without feeling queasy, anxious and angry all at once. Lee Dong Wook (as Moon Jo) did an amazing job at being the highest culprit of all, and same goes to the actress whose role is the residence owner (can't recall her name at the point of writing). Hated her hair, her face, her grin, her disgusting way of making meals, and her pervertness towards the protagonist Jong Wu (Im Si Wan), the same hatred feeling for her in her role as the maid in the movie Parasite. The supporting roles of the hellish people in the residence are totally sickening-looking. Can't imagine if I were to be in the male lead's shoes.. i would have been discouraged by the stairs leading to the residence already. But yeah, this is a story, and I feel sorry for Jong U, wanting to search for a career in Seoul, but instead it took its toll on his physical and mental health, and it turned out to be a complete mess.

In short, this series is a total psychological thriller. The production team deserves all the applause for such amazing acting + cinematography + set + lighting + everything else that made the series what it is.

I just didn't like the ending though.. while I'm glad all the sick people are dead, I would like the male protagonist to have a little bit more self control over himself and his feelings, and know when to walk away. He really didn't know how to improve himself, argh that's annoying, really. Hated the fact that Moon Jo had successfully rubbed himself on Jong U, although he died.

What the story didn't explain though, is the development of relationship between Ms Um and Moon Jo. How did he become a dentist? Is he really a certified dentist, or just some guy with know-hows to stitch cuts and pulling out teeth? Did Ms Um really raise him to tertiary education with that sort of mental state? Unexplained. The script just made Ms Um mentioned a little bit of her raising Moon Jo as an orphan (in episode 10), but it's really not enough to understand why Moon Jo and Ms Um are so sick and mental.

So, my verdict: 7.7/10. A thriller worth to watch. Would I want to watch it again? Nope.

This drama shows how atmosphere affects on human nature, how atmosphere badly forms or shapes daily lives. This drama focuses on studio apartment where people are weird and abound with suspicious activities. When a new guy named Jong Woo comes and starts living in it, he starts noticing weird people which also freaking him out. He is getting clues about missing people who have been missing while living in this studio. As day passes, he started hallucinating and he can also feel the changes in himself. He is becoming one of them. What's really going on this studio? Why people are getting missing?

I was supper excited about this drama but I'm bit disappointed. There are some plot holes. I was expecting a bit, maybe a more interesting ending. However, the ending was ambiguous.

But, I think, there were really a guy named Moon Jo who was serial killer. Moreover,he really killed guys and made bracelets out of their tooth. But somehow he found similarities between he and Jong Woo,so he tried to make him like him who can resemble his personality even better. But at the end Jong Woo killed Moon Joo. We can see, there were some visuals where Moon Joo was shown, maybe it was because finally Jong Woo becomes like him by killing four people.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Definitely keeps you at your toes every time the main character steps into the goshiwon residence. The music, camera angles are always on point and makes you feel that you are always being watched all the time. I wish there were more stories to explain each character in the residence and how Mrs Um scouted and nurtured Mu joe to become who he is today.
  • It's good but too many scenes where the bad guys get all the breaks and the good guys make bad choices. Police are worthless as usual. And some of the content feels like "filler" to meet the hour long episode requirement. But watching something that did not follow the predictable American plotline was refreshing... Not sure if I liked the ending
  • First of all, it's sick, dark and disturbing. Violence and creepiness is all over the show and the way it is filmed is sadistic and gritty. It definitely made an impact on to my heart and if you ask if it would make a good thriller, yes it would! It would make your heart pound incessantly that you would feel terribly sick after a while.

Coming to the story, it didn't work out that much. No matter how much you try to convince yourself, the characters are stupid. You have to agree on that. Moreover, every character in this story is irritating like they all have some mental disorder and they lack something called 'Common Sense'.

The series is also lagging at times with fillers that wouldn't add anything to the story and some creepy moments that wouldn't make any sense but are added to the screenplay either to give some cheap thrills or to elongate the episode.

The climax is sort of clichéd and is not that good. Over all, Strangers from hell or hell is other people is a 'you've seen it all' series that would have worked out if it had been a film or mini-series.
  • Personally, I don't really watch thiller, dark korean drama but Stranger From Hell was a whole new world experience for me. I've seen the webtoon and honestly the series itself was such a satisfying finisher for me. The plot, scenes, place, casts and soundtracks are all great. All of them is a perfect match and brought a special treatment about a group of psychopath that you didn't know what are their true motive until you finish all of the episodes. I still remember my pure reaction when they are about to kill someone, it's giving the fear on the back of my spine. Seriously recommended for people who love mystery and great plot.
  • Strangers from Hell (also known as Hell is Other People/ Tainuen Jiokida) (2019) based on a webtoon by the same name, was an excellent psychological horror drama, full of dark, gritty weirdness. It many ways it takes you down the rabbit hole, so to speak, delving into dark topics on the basis of human nature. Are we good? Are we evil? Perhaps there's only a fine line in between. Strangers from Hell showcases all that darkness of human nature and exhibits the increasingly troubled mind of our struggling young protagonist as he deals with other people, and their various forms of evil and darknesses.

The synopsis is this. The story of a young man, Yoon Jong Woo (Im Si-wan) in his 20's who moves to Seoul after landing an internship in a company. While looking for a place to stay, he stumbles upon Eden Studio, an ominous cheap dormitory and decides to stay there as he is low on money. Though not thrilled about the quality of the place and its abnormal residents, including his next-door neighbor Seo Moon Jo (Lee Dong-wook), he decides to tolerate it until he saves enough money to move out. However, mysterious occurrences start occurring in the studio, causing Jong Woo to start fearing the studio's residents.

Everything escalates from there. And what we get is such a masterpiece, though one that might be difficult to stomach, as its themes get increasingly darker and darker. Suffice it to say there are many references of murder, torture, cannibalism, and other forms of cruelty that can make most of us a bit squeamish. The slow build up, jarred with occasional but shocking scenes of violence or the macabre, makes the whole experience rather tense.

As a whole, the show completed what it set out to do. Give us viewers a dismal and disturbing glimpse into human nature, as through a mirror darkly. It does so brilliantly. Combine the excellent cast and acting, great original soundtrack, with great story buildup, and elements that mix the mystery, crime, suspense, and horror genres, you get an utterly twisted journey such as this series. It definitely might not be for everyone, especially for the faint of heart. It gets under your skin.
