  • I rented this game back in March or so. I never heard of Rogue Warrior and when I looked at the back and front cover to see the description of the game, I got pretty excited. When I got home, I looked up the reviews and I realized the game got unanimously horrendous reviews from critics. So me and my brother decided to see for ourselves on how bad the game was. I will tell you, it was bad alright. The graphics look like something you would get from an XBox or PS2 game, and even many games from these two systems, especially the Xbox since it had better graphics than the PS2 in most games, had better graphics than Rogue Warrior. The use of swearing is off the charts, although it does make the game very funny and probably the only good thing about the game. The enemy AI is terrible. I remember one time I shot out a fuse box when an enemy was very close to it. Not even by yelling out an explicit after that did the enemy pay any attention. You can sprint up to enemies to kill them with knife kills and they won't notice. Speaking of knife kills, these are used in the game. They're very impressive, but are exploited as you can just run from enemy to enemy to take them out. That is because you are invincible when performing knife kills. The game is very short so it's possible you can beat it in one sitting. Final thought, there are so many better first-person shooters that are worth the money.
  • A few weeks ago, I was out from work sick for a few days, and rented Rogue Warrior for my Xbox 360. If I ever see Dick Marcinko face to face again, I'll ask him for my ten bucks back. The bottom line here is that this is just another first person shooter- the plot is weak, it's completely lone wolf, the scenery is all the same from what I saw, it borrows too heavily from too many other games of the genre, the language is excessive (and this is a former soldier saying this, mind you), and it does absolutely nothing to grab your attention. I rented it on principle, as I'm a huge FPS player, but I lost interest about halfway through the second mission. There is just nothing to set it apart from any of the ten zillion other FPS games out there. The weapons and equipment are typical, granted, the kill moves are kind of cool, but you have to get the drop on an enemy to perform them. Bottom line- if someone buys you this game, go trade it in.

    Only a 1/10 because I couldn't give it a negative rating.

They charged $60? Ain't no way, that's literally a scam. I can't think of a single aspect of this game that isn't horrendous. It couldn't end quick enough for me.
  • First of all, I wasn't sure if this game is purposely over-the-top or if it's taking itself seriously up until the credits, where a rap compilation of the main character's swear words starts playing and I really can't see how this isn't a joke by the developers. Playing this still made me chuckle quite a few times just because of how absurd some moments were, especially dialogue.

The story is super simple: You play as Richard Marcinko (he is, apparently, a real NAVY Seal and this game is kind of "based" on his book of the same name) Richard is sent on a mission with his two fellow soldiers, who both die in the same cutscene we first see them in. So, understandably, Marcinko is mad and the rest of the game is just, as the protagonist himself describes it: "Payback". Said "Payback" involves killing what's probably a good chunk of North Korean and later, Russian soldiers.

Graphics are meh. It doesn't look too bad, but it doesn't exactly look good either.

The gameplay is pretty generic. It has a similar cover system to Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 and 2. Weapons aren't really satisfying or exceptionally well animated, which isn't good considering it's a shooter. The only notable thing is the stealth "system", yes, with the "". So this "system" seems to be solely based on the line of sight, you can walk up to enemies from behind, you can even run, they don't care, and perform "takedowns", which are basically just short cutscenes of the protagonist violently murdering someone by stabbing them several times or throwing them off ledges while they scream in agony, but no one around them seems to care. Those "takedowns" can also be performed after being spotted or even shot at, but during the animation you can't receive damage, so bullets just kind of fly through Richard like if he was a ghost.

The part that makes this game so entertaining is the dialogue. The main character (voiced by Mickey Rourke, by the way) does NOT shut up. He constantly drops the F-bomb while fighting or communicating through radio, insulting the enemies in the most absurd ways, I probably can't write them here, but check the "quotes" section, you'll get the general idea. The stuff this guy says is the main reason why this game is so funny and probably the only reason why I kept playing this game despite it being pretty boring in terms of gameplay.

Alright, so we have a pretty generic shooter with repetitive gameplay, meh graphics and absurd dialogue.

Is this game good? Nah, not really.

Is it worth playing? I'd say yes. You can get it really cheap and it's only around 2 hours long, so I recommend you to bring a friend and just have fun with this game for an evening.

Has a little something for everyone. Dick marcinko, the person who came created seal team six btw is the star of this masterpiece. Gameplay is remniscent of James bond legends which is another phenomenal FPS experience. The story has everything twists and turns and is a real emotional rollercoaster. Seeing marcinko uncover cold war USSR secrets is very interesting.

    10/10 American James Bond.

You play as Dick a special forces commando who knows how to move and kill people, in this case, North Korean and Russian soldiers in the mid-1980's with the cold war ending five years later.

This game can be quite graphic for younger computer game players as when you perform a special move the game will show a dedicated scene of the enemy dying, this time being communist soldiers.

I don't know why all the hate for this title... is it because communists are involved?

People can complete this game in about six hours it took me a few days of stopping and starting.

A cheap thrill for about ten dollars off of Amazon so just go for it.
  • The great thing about this game is that it really makes you feel like a badass. It feels like a good action movie and the one man army left to finish the mission setting is great. The addition of Mickey Rourke voicing the main character is great too and the music is good throughout the game. I don't really know what makes this game bad, like it's usually considered. The gameplay is solid and there's nothing else to really complain about either.
