The Writers Guild Of America has advised members not to work on an upcoming drama about a deadly 1982 California avalanche that Martin Scorsese will produce because of the involvement of fellow producer Randall Emmett.
Emmet is the founder and managing member of Convergence Entertainment Group, which has been on the WGA Strike/Unfair List since 2020 and is not a signatory to the Guild’s collective bargaining agreement or Mba.
As such the Guild has reminded members not to write on the feature, Wall Of White, which was announced last month. The project is based on the 2021 documentary Buried: The 1982 Alpine...

The Writers Guild of America West has barred members from working on the upcoming disaster movie “Wall of White” that is in the works from producers Randall Emmett and Martin Scorsese.
Emmett has a history of tangling with the WGA and has been on the guild’s WGA Strike/Unfair List since 2020. Moreover, his Convergence Entertainment Group banner is not a signatory to the guild’s Minimum Basic Agreement, which covers the work of screenwriters.
Per the WGA, “Emmett has a long history of refusing to honor obligations to writers and the Guild has filed numerous arbitration claims against companies owned by Emmett over the last decade.”
The depth of Scorsese’s involvement in “Wall of White” is unclear. The film is reportedly focused on the deadly 1982 avalanche that left seven dead in the Alpine Meadows ski resort outside near Lake Tahoe in northern California.

In early March, Deadline unveiled a new project set to be produced by Martin Scorsese: a narrative feature adaptation of the deadly 1982 avalanche that subsumed the Alpine Meadows ski resort near Lake Tahoe.
The project sounded like the latest fascinating dive into American history from the auteur behind Killers of the Flower Moon and The Irishman. One problem? Hollywood’s powerful writers union is barring members from working on the project.
On Wednesday the Writers Guild of America West issued a notice to members forbidding them from contributing to Wall of White thanks to a few of the project’s announced contributors. Producer Randall Emmett is on the union’s strike/unfair list — a directory of no-go collaborators for unionized writers — while production company and financier Convergence Entertainment Group is not a signatory to the union’s contract.

Sean Baker may have scooped up Oscar trophies in every filmmaker's dream categories this year, but let's not forget the iconic Alejandro G. Iñárritu won Best Director two years in a row for Birdman and then The Revenant. It's hard to believe the latter film was released 10 years ago at this point, the sole film that has earned Leonardo DiCaprio an Academy Award for Best Lead Actor. Alongside him in The Revenant was a talented ensemble that included longtime performer Lukas Haas, whose latest film, High Rollers, is now available on demand and digital. MovieWeb recently caught up with Haas while he was promoting the movie, and the actor took time to share about his experience working with Iñárritu — especially as the director's star-studded next film is taking shape.
"We stay in touch here and there. I have not heard much about his new film, but it sounds really cool.

High Rollers is the sequel to 2024’s sleeper B-movie Cash Out (which I did see but barely remember) reuniting audiences with John Travolta’s slick criminal mastermind, Mason Goddard. Directed by the enigmatic “Ives” (which I guess is Randall Emmett hiding behind a pseudonym). This casino-heist actioner aims to up the ante from its predecessor’s modest thrills, trading small-time bank jobs for the neon-lit excess of a Louisiana gambling empire. With a bigger budget (while still constrained) and a glossier sheen, High Rollers wants to be the Ocean’s Eleven of the straight-to-streaming world. With this entry it could quite possibly hit that mark. Still, on first watch it’s somewhere between a guilty pleasure and a really enjoyable watch, a film that’s sporadically entertaining but...

High Rollers, a direct sequel to John Travolta’s entertaining sleeper hit, Cash Out, brings international fugitive Mason and his crew back on the scene again for one last job, as they get caught up in a family feud between crooked billionaires. However, unlike its predecessor, which was a trope-y heist movie but still had its moments through character interactions and tension build-ups, High Rollers falls flat, as it overplays its hand by incorporating too many unnecessary subplots and almost completely doing away with the action elements. The fact that, despite drawing on major plot points from the Cash Out, the sequel doesn’t make any attempt to address the connection, makes it difficult for the audience to get into the mix. Relying mostly upon Travolta’s performance, the overall characterization fails to impress, with some of the players included only because they were a part of the cast in...

If one of your favorite versions of the famed webhead from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) was Spider-Man Noir — voiced to perfection by Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage — then fret not. That's not the last you've heard from the scene-stealing webslinger. In fact, Cage will be reprising his role in glorious live-action form with a highly anticipated new Spider-Man series for MGM+, Spider-Noir. It features a stellar cast alongside the celebrated star, including longtime performer Lukas Haas. MovieWeb recently caught up with Haas while he was promoting the release of his new caper film High Rollers, a quick follow-up to last year's release Cash Out. Haas also took time to reflect on his experience shooting Spider-Noir.
"It was a really, really cool project to be a part of. I had a great time working on that. Nic is so cool and awesome," Haas told us. "And Brendan Gleeson is amazing. He plays my boss.

Taking a different route from past beloved movie franchises, the filmmakers behind John Travolta’s new caper sequel opted for a standalone title rather than simply Cash Out 2. The mildly entertaining initial feature hit the masses barely a year ago, and the production of High Rollers had already been completed by the time Cash Out was being promoted, as confirmed by our 2024 interview with star Lukas Haas.
Hass plays Travolta’s brother, with their latest high-stakes crime story taking them from a uniquely modern bank heist to a snazzy casino robbery this time around. John Travolta has recently enjoyed a run at the top of the free streaming charts with two of his mostly forgotten movies. Life on the Line has been at the top of the Tubi chart in the last week, but prior to that, his 2024 crime action thriller Cash Out stole the number one position. Now fans of the Pulp Fiction star’s Miles “The Count” Cunningham have been given their first look at his return in the sequel, Cash Out 2: High Rollers.
This follow-up is looking to raise the stakes with some more elaborate action set pieces and a story of daring robberies and underhanded cons, and the new trailer has given a strong indication that the new movie will be delivering more of the same as Cash Out. While Travolta reprises his role as Cunningham, the rest of the cast sees a mix of new and old faces to the franchise.

"You trying to steal from me?" "Just protecting my family." Saban Films has debuted the official trailer for a junky action crime thriller called High Rollers, the latest from filmmaker Randal Emmett also know as Ives. The film is now ready to launch in March and will be available on VOD right away if anyone out there cares. It's a surprise sequel to Cash Out (from last year) which also starred Travolta as a thief. In this follow-up, master thief Mason is pulled back in for a big casino heist that he must complete in order to get the love of his life back from his ruthless nemesis Salazar. Will he be able to outsmart him and the casino? The cast features John Travolta back as Mason Goddard again, with Gina Gershon, Lukas Haas, Quavo, Kelly Greyson, Swen Temmel, and Demián Castro. Hollywood icon and Pulp Fiction star John Travolta joins forces with Mission: Impossible star Jonathan Rhys Meyers and the director and writer behind the Liam Neeson action movie hit Taken, Pierre Morel and Luc Besson, respectively, for the action thriller From Paris with Love, which is all set to land on free streaming. The Writers Guild of America West is prohibiting its members from working with producer Steve Small and his company Fifty Feet Movie, LLC.
The union notified members on Wednesday that it had placed Small, a former Paradigm agent and Emmett/Furla Films executive who has produced the indies The Hungover Games (2014), Cash Out (2024) and the upcoming Armored, and his company Fifty Feet Movie, LLC on its Strike/Unfair List. The union’s rules bar members from working with individuals or companies on the list or risk a fine. Action thriller begins with glossy vibes, but loses the champagne-fuelled aspirations too soon and wastes co-star Kristin Davis
It’s a sad fact that when you sit down in front of a John Travolta movie nowadays, you know you’re not going to witness a career high point. That moment has been and gone. I refer not to his snake-hipped turn in Grease, or his era-defining strut in Saturday Night Fever, nor even to his funky comeback in Pulp Fiction; no, the greatest moment of Travoltean brilliance will always belong to his top-tier Oscar night flub, inexplicably introducing Idina Menzel as “the wickedly talented Adele Dazeem”. So, allowing for the fact that Cash Out can’t possibly top that, where does it sit in the pantheon? Unfortunately this action thriller, also starring Kristin Davis, is nowhere near that vintage.

Cash Out opens with Mason Goddard and his crew stealing an outrageously expensive supercar as what he intends to be his last heist. Things don’t go as planned however as one of them, his girlfriend Amelia no less, is an undercover FBI agent. He barely escapes, and since he was already planning to retire, takes it one step further, he fakes his death and drops out of sight.
Three months later, his brother Shawn drops by trying to interest him in coming out of retirement for one more job. That doesn’t work, but when another member of the crew, Link calls he’s packing and on his way to the airport.
The next thing we know, Mason and Shawn are kidnapping a bank manager and the plan is in motion.

Home viewing charts inspire deja vu: “Anyone but You,” a hit as a PVOD release, just debuted at Netflix. It knocked out Netflix’s expensive “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” from first place after two weeks, falling to #6.
Similarly, “Dune: Part Two” returned for its second week as #1 at both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (which calculates by revenue).
The “Dune” sequel fended off challenges by two recent theatrical releases. Dev Patel’s “Monkey Man” (Universal), once intended as a Netflix original, is #2 at iTunes, third at Fandango. The family-oriented “Arthur the King” (Lionsgate) took second at Fandango, but only #6 at iTunes. Both initially are available to rent for 48 hours for $19.99.
Two new home-play debuts also made top 10 lists. “Cash Out” (Saban) is #9 at iTunes, renting at $6.99; starring John Travolta, the critically reviled title may be getting as much attention for its little-known director Ives. That’s...

John Travolta's Cash Out continues his streak of critically panned movies on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, released in 2024, follows Travolta's character as he tries to escape a failed bank robbery. Despite Travolta's hopes for success, Cash Out only received a 33% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Cash Out won't be putting an end to John Travolta's horrifically bad Rotten Tomatoes streak. Starring John Travolta, Kristin Davis, Quavo, and Lukas Haas, Cash Out revolves around two brothers hoping to rob a bank together. When everything falls apart, Travolta's Mason is forced to negotiate with a former partner as he desperately tries to escape the bank. The movie was released on April 26, 2024.

Travolta and Davis showcase fun chemistry as a bold power couple with a twist in Cash Out. Haas adds reliable comedy to the heist flick, setting up potential sequels in this entertaining film. Expect formulaic fun with some twists, lighthearted moments, and familiar faces in this crypto-themed crime caper.
Don't you hate it when your ex is the hostage negotiator? That's just one of the pickles John Travolta's career-criminal persona faces in Cash Out, a new B-movie offering from Saban Films that's out this week. With perhaps his finest film to date, Pulp Fiction, just celebrating its 30th anniversary, Vincent Vega has already been in the news as of late, and it's fun seeing him back in action for more criminal antics alongside fellow veteran actors Kristin Davis (Sex and the City) and Lukas Haas (Babylon).
Bonus points if you're already a fanatic of heist movies, perhaps even with...

It’s nothing fresh, no mind boggler, but it purely works on the entertainment factor. The John Travolta starrer Cash Out is tropey in every way, and it still manages to not be boring at any point. Long past his prime, Travolta plays Mason Goddard, a swindler with a skilled crew carrying out heists. When a simple bank robbery goes haywire, Mason and his group must find their way out of it.

What happens in the movie?
Mason and his girlfriend Amelia visit a private jet exhibition, and they don’t seem interested in the aircraft. Mr. Perez, the man who invited them, takes them to show his collection of luxury sports cars. Out of all the Porsches and Lamborghinis, Mason’s eyes shine when Perez shows his most prized possession, a rare Pagani. Mason’s crew was already present in the exhibition, and they took over the garage,...

If you’ve been wondering when a heist movie would wed traditional bank-robbing sequences with the current fixation on cryptocurrency, “Cash Out” is here to answer that question. And yet little about this John Travolta vehicle feels new or even timely, as the would-be thriller directed by Ives trades exclusively in shopworn tropes that by now are de rigueur for the genre. It is, as you might imagine, the story of one last job before our protagonist can finally hang it up for good — which is also how one imagines the role itself might have been pitched to Travolta.
The actor, who at this point is like a past-his-prime slugger dragging down his career batting average, brings a familiar name to “Cash Out” but none of the vibrancy we’ve seen from him in the past. He stars as Mason Goddard, whom we meet as he and his femme-fatale inamorata...

Stars: John Travolta, Kristin Davis, Lukas Haas, Natali Yura, Noel Gugliemi, Quavo, Swen Temmel | Written by Dipo Oseni, Doug Richardson | Directed by Ives

Lukas Haas discusses his role in the new heist movie "Cash Out" with John Travolta, calling it a thrilling and exciting experience. Haas shares insights on the cryptocurrency theme in the film and hints at a fun sequel already in the works: "Cash Out 2." The actor also reflects on his past collaborations with great filmmakers like Christopher Nolan, expressing admiration for Damien Chazelle and Martin Scorsese.
You've seen him in movies by the best filmmakers around: Christopher Nolan (Inception), Steve McQueen (Widows), Rian Johnson (Brick). Famed actor Lukas Haas has been in the Hollywood game for decades, and now he's starring alongside the iconic John Travolta for a new heist movie called Cash Out. It's such a thrill ride that there may or may not be a follow-up already in the can. But more on that later.

Calling all Latino filmmakers, John Travolta wants to work with you. Swinging by Panama to present his 1978 musical rom-com “Grease” at the 12th Panama International Film Festival (Iff Panama), Travolta professed his great love for “Mexico, Central America, South America, all of its parts.”
“There is an incredible humanity that prevails and is different from anywhere else in the world,” he told Variety.
Surprised to hear that Robert de Niro had starred in the Argentine series “Nada,” Travolta exclaimed: “I would have loved that, I would have enjoyed being lured to South America to play a part for a while.”
The closest he’s come to working with a Latino director was with Alfonso Cuarón, who produced the short film streaming on Disney+ “The Shepherd,” based on Frederick Forsyth’s 1975 novella, which follows a young Royal Air Force pilot flying home for Christmas across the North Sea. When the pilot...

I can’t say it was difficult finding nine posters to talk about this month––most new April releases were given the bad Photoshop treatment. Some, like Cash Out, scream Dtv. Some, like Arcadian, try their best to at least make the lighting and coloring look real. Some go the collage route, e.g. The Long Game. And then there are those like Blood for Dust where the actors resemble flat cutouts and their heads bobbling balloons pasted on top.
I’ll never understand a studio’s desire to go that route when a simple film still with effective typography can garner attention for its beauty rather than its superficiality, but that mindset doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon. Thankfully there are still those who get it––those who commission posters as an art form and a marketing tool. You can have both.

Remember, back in the day, when one name directors was a thing? Like some kind of cool branding for the late 90s and early 00s? Ives does. "You just have to keep one step ahead of her." Saban Films has unveiled the trailer for a crime thriller titled Cash Out, from a filmmaker known as "Ives", debuting to watch at the end of April. Yet another of these dime a dozen, extremely derivative crime thrillers. This one is about a bank robbery gone wrong. When his crew's bank heist goes wrong, Mason gets trapped with his team inside the bank they’re trying to rob, and then it all evolves to a hostage situation involving Swat teams, the FBI and Interpol. How will they get out of this high stakes trap? John Travolta stars as Mason, with Kristin Davis, Quavo, Lukas Haas, Swen Temmel, Sean Astin, and Noel Gugliemi. Apparently there is already a sequel to Cash Out that's shot and ready to go - filmed in 2023 after this one filmed in 2022. Huh. This looks so forgettably...

When one has a near fatal experience of their own making in life, the choice is usually to avoid a repetition while saving one's head. For John Travolta, however, while he might have made that choice, it's been snatched from his hands. Ahead of its premiere in theaters, on digital and on demand come April 26, Saban Films' Cash Out, an action thriller starring Travolta in the lead, has released its first trailer. The film tells the story of a criminal who, despite his decision to retire, has been sucked into one final job, and it's as dangerous as it can get.

Sean Stone, a producer who worked on action films starring Bruce Willis and John Travolta, has died. He was 31.
Stone died Tuesday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, his family told The Hollywood Reporter. He was diagnosed with metastatic neuroendocrine cancer of the colon in July.
Stone grew up in New Jersey and graduated from the University of Arizona before moving to Los Angles in 2017 to pursue his dream of producing movies. He began his career that year at CAA, where he worked under Dave Bugliari and then Jack Whigham, before moving to Emmett/Furla as an assistant in 2020 and eventually freelancing as an executive producer on movie projects.

Brian De Palma's "Carrie" was the film that defined a generation. Its blend of coming-of-age themes, fantastical magic, and slasher-style bloodshed makes it a genre-bending film that time just can't seem to forget.
The 1976 horror tells the story of a sheltered girl who lives under her obsessively religious mother's tyrannical rule, a dictatorship made all the worse by the onset of Carrie's period. Her mother's frenzy combined with a cruel prank at the prom pushes the shy young girl to a mental break, complete with telekinetic powers. The Stephen King adaptation launched some incredibly notable careers, including John Travolta, who plays high school bully Billy Nolan. Sadly, not all of the cast has lived to see the end of 2023, including Piper Laurie, whose performance as Carrie's mother earned her one of three Oscar nominations in her lifetime.

HBO Max’s And Just Like That… season 2 cast brings back plenty of Sex and the City’s original cast and characters, along with several new, lovable additions to the And Just Like That cast. And Just Like That is one of HBO Max’s first official TV show revivals, following 2021’s divisive Gossip Girl reboot. The first season of And Just Like That's streaming 10-episode half-hour series takes the original main characters back to New York City for a new chapter of their lives, navigating relationships and family in their 50s instead of their 30s. Season 2 of the series should pick up directly after season 1.
While three of the main cast members have returned for the And Just Like That season 2 cast, the series was notably absent of Kim Cattrall’s iconic original character Samantha Jones, but she'll be making a cameo in season 2. And Just Like That...
