This Underrated DreamWorks Hit Is One of the Best Animated Films Since 2020
Image
DreamWorks' The Bad Guys was inspired by a book similar to another hit franchise, Shrek. The Bad Guys took inspiration from many hit movies of the time in terms of animation. The Bad Guys has more installments on the way but may bring cartoons back to its roots with simple techniques.

DreamWorks Animation is best known for its hit series of Shrek movies based on a 1990 children's picture book of the same name by author William Steig. In 2022, the studio took a page from its past success and dove back into children's literature for its next great idea. The Bad Guys was a moderate boon at the box office and received favorable reviews from both critics and audiences, but it hasn't garnered nearly as much attention as DreamWorks' most titular ogre. The animation giant has had a lot of hit or misses since the premiere of the first Shrek movie...

Animated Films Are 33 Of The Most Watched In Netflix’s New Data Dump: How Streamer’s Originals Stacked Up Against Licensed Titles
Image
When Netflix released its latest major data set on Thursday — its second under the name of What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report — animated features continued to demonstrate a major impact for the streamer. Of the top 100 most viewed titles in the period of review, from July to December 2023, 33 were animated, bringing in a total of 1,087,600,000 views.

That being said, titles licensed from other studios continued to heavily overshadow Netflix originals, in terms of impact. Of the 33 animated titles in the Top 100, five were produced by Netflix; the Adam Sandler starrer Leo ranked the highest at #3 overall, coming in with 96 million views. Others that made the cut included The Monkey King, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the Oscar-nominated Nimona, The Sea Beast and Back to the Outback.

By far the greatest supplier of Netflix’s top ranking animated films was Universal, which through a exclusive licensing deal,...

‘The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday’ Ending Explained & Movie Spoilers: How Did The Gang Pull Off The Heist?
Image
Since its inception, DreamWorks Studio has weaved magic into the animated medium, especially in the way the studio redefined anthropomorphic characters by transcending a mere humanistic approach in their depiction and imbuing them with a distinctiveness of their own. While Puss in the Boots or the Kung Fu Panda franchise emulate this trait in the best possible way, the 2022 hit venture The Bad Guys has also proven to be a memorable entry in that regard. Centered on the eponymous team of miscreants, The Bad Guys quickly rose through the ranks of the best animated movies in recent years and gained appreciation for its self-aware humor, heart, and the classic mix-up of 2D and 3D animation styles the studio has mastered through the years.

Much like how all of Dreamworks’ celebrated movies received their own special, The Bad Guys has added one Christmas special short this year, titled The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday,...
