  • Saw this when it first came out as a weekly series. I was excited, because it sounded so good. The writers and director fell flat. There was so much potential to such a great story. 12 episodes in, there is still no Night Watchman. The 2 lead males couldn't carry the series off by themselves. The 2 lead females were superfluous. Ho Do, or whatever, should have been a footnote. Too much romantic fluff for this type of program. Not enough action , explanation, "watchman" scenes. Perhaps this is how I forgot how slow it . Keep the fast forward button at the ready. D~

The start of the show was promising and it really had a great vibe with the dragon and all. But as the plot continues it became dragging and many parts in the middle can be entirely skipped. The villain does not die even when stabbed and burned, but eventually he did as the dragon died which they could have killed long time ago. The shaman who got the hots for the king just died like that and I don't know why she had a change of face. Oh well, the female lead really tries hard to cry.... just saying it again.

    Warning: Spoilers
This drama is what can i say firstly i watched it because of Jung Yunho of TVXQ who was acting as the guard mooseok in this drama, then when the story goes on I felt that the plot is rather slow and dramatical especially Jung Il Woo's he was portraying a prince who obviously overthrown of his rightfully right as the king but tried to cover this with his carefree lifestyle, I found Jung Il Woo portraying his character too melodramatic and his expression is not different with his other ancient drama "the moon that embraces the sun". I am surely disappointed with this slow story, the development of the main heroine character which cannot bring the best out of her instead acting lame and predictable with such a boring facial expression. The bad guys in this drama is the good points of watching it since his acting as villain is good and acceptable, while the man who was acting as the first king or Rin's (Jung Ill Woo) father is better than the main hero here. Jung Yunho show very matured acting compare to his last drama "king of ambition", he was a guard who hid his sadness because his sister died when she was very young left him alone in this world, his emotion and sadness especially his eyes when Moosoek (Yunho's character) being betrayed by his most respectful person is truly great.

I feel disappointed to see jung il woo as the main lead here it should be changed to Jung Yunho since Yunho's acting is what keeping the audiences to watch this drama not because of the predictable plot or because the boring love story between the main leads. Those who bias and said idols cannot acting is really blind and shouldn't be judging themselves higher compare to other people.

The best soundtrack is sang by Shim Changmin of TVXQ, listening well to other ost it cannot be compared to changmin's song since it has more felling and the vocal is not in doubt, the lyric is describing Mooseok's feeling but it played on rin's scenes I have a feeling Jung Yunho was mistreated here because he is originally a singer.
  • Lets cut to the chase here; there is more corn than in a big field of corn, an enormous field of corn at that.

It is a soap of epic proportions, the acting both dramatic and delightfully ham, the inspired mix of more than adequate CGI and palpably 1970's cinema effects put me in mind of watching Monkey (Saiyûki) King on a Friday night in the 80's, a classic of it's time. Just this time it's Demonic Spirit Monster kicking Korean fantasy madness instead.

All the things that are right with it work well and all the things that are wrong with it just seem to make you feel little tinges of joy as they pass by.

Turn your brain off, muffle your intellect with cotton wool, don't worry too much if the storyline seems a bit complicated and confusing at points (it all kind of makes sense in the end) and enjoy an entertaining show.

The drama attempted to explore the supernatural realm through the eyes of night watchmen which were a small tiny portion of a drama titled after them. The drama actually had a reasonable start but a few episodes later it got lost and scattered with no clear direction. It got increasingly messy the longer it went as it was struggling to fill its 24 episodes. There were some strange out of place pieces of dialogues that can be labeled as incoherent nonsense. In addition, a lot of inconsistencies with the characters, poor motives and sudden changes contrary to their established and developed character. The OST was awful, it was like listening to a bad cover band in a dive bar. There were moments that caught my attention but they fizzled out quicker than a damp firecracker.
  • Just like everythings in the production. All are very good.
