Challengers star Mike Faist and Talk to Me breakout Sophie Wilde have a date with Chopard during this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The luxury jeweler has selected the actors to receive the prestigious Trophée Chopard, an award doled out since 2001 at the invitation of the house’s Caroline Scheufele as a way to honor cinema’s rising stars. Faist and Wilde will receive the trophies during a glitzy dinner at Carlton Beach on May 17. As previously announced, godmother Demi Moore will take the stage and present the pair with the honors.
The winners are selected by an academy comprising previous winners as well as those who have served as godmothers and godfathers at the ceremony. Winners have included Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Diane Kruger, Niels Schneider, Florence Pugh, Jessie Buckley, Naomie Ackie and Daryl McCormack.
Faist can currently be seen on screen in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers opposite Zendaya and Josh O’Connor.

With panoramic shots of a wind-swept tundra and a skyline studded with jagged mountaintops, the opening scene of True Detective Season 4 Episode 1 strikes a grandiose tone.
It feels closer to Game of Thrones’ Wildling storylines than to the claustrophobic, gritty interiors that we’ve come to expect from HBO’s divisive cop drama.
Even after the requisite large firearm makes its first appearance -- via a frightened hunter aiming his rifle at a herd of stampeding reindeer -- there's little to give the viewer the sense that we're in 21st-century America, rather than someplace much more exotic and archaic.
It's only when the action shifts inside that the show's fourth season -- helmed by Issa Lopez, who replaces series creator Nic Pizzolatto as showrunner -- begins to bear any resemblance to its first three.
The Tsalas Research Station -- located just outside of Ennis, Alaska -- is well-lit when we first enter,...

Game of Thrones actor Ciarán Hinds admits that he was "put off" by the show's gratuitous sex scenes. Based on the acclaimed fantasy novels by author George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones ran for 8 seasons on HBO from 2011 to 2019. Hinds joined the show as Mance Rayder, aka the Wildling King Beyond the Wall, in season 3, playing the role until season 5.
In a recent interview with The Independent following his casting in The Rings of Power season 2, Hinds recalls that he was initially hesitant to join Game of Thrones because of its excessive sexuality. For Hinds, all the graphic sex was taking away from the actual story being told. Check out Hinds' full comment below:
“I was rather put off by the amount of sexuality that was going on in it, because it was taking away from the actual political storytelling. But that’s business, I guess, from their perspective.

Mike Faist is no stranger to musicals. He originated the role of Connor Murphy in the Broadway musical "Dear Evan Hansen," for which he was nominated for a Tony Award for best featured actor in a musical. He also originated the role of Morris Delancey in Disney's "Newsies." He's been in films like "The Unspeakable Act," "Wildling," and "Panic." And now, he's taking on the role of Riff in the Steven Spielberg-directed "West Side Story."
Faist is easily a standout in the cast, which is saying something. He's working with the original Anita, Rita Moreno, and the film also stars Ansel Elgort,...

Another month, another slew of new content headed to Netflix.
And while 2020 has fast become one of the most troubling and downright overwhelming years in recent memory (spoilers: there are still eight months left), the Internet’s biggest platforms are still pumping out fresh material to ease the pain of social distancing.
Self-isolation is by no means easy, but there’s a camaraderie to be found online. For instance, Netflix Party is a Google Chrome extension that allows you and your friends/family to stream a movie or TV show simultaneously. It doesn’t always work seamlessly, but it’s still a fun feature to encourage communication during the Coronavirus lockdown.
And with a fresh batch of new content being added to Netflix today, April 1st, there are five films in particular that will surely stir up conversation. As spotted by Dread Central, new horror-thrillers include Mortal Kombat (1995), Killer Klowns From Outer Space...

With a third of the world’s population officially on lockdown (a number that is increasing every minute of every day), Netflix and other online services are experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand.
So much so, in fact, that Netflix and YouTube plan to reduce streaming quality across Europe for the next month in order to ease the strain on the Internet. These are strange times, indeed.
Be that as it may, today is April 1st, which means two things – 1) it’s April Fool’s Day, so the Internet is littered with prank videos and other shenanigans and 2) the Internet’s major streaming services have rolled out a fresh wave of content. Speaking of which, thanks to What’s On Netflix, below you’ll find a comprehensive list of all 83 titles that have been added to the online platform as of April 1st.

Netflix has confirmed that 58 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in April. Leading off the lineup are season 2 of the Ricky Gervais serio-comic series “After Life” and the debut of Mindy Kaling‘s childhood memoir “Never Have I Ever.” And in these trying times, take comfort in the slew of comedy specials, including one pairing “Silicon Valley” leading man Thomas Middleditch and “Parks and Recreation” scene stealer Ben Schwartz.
On the reality side, we can’t wait to gobble up season 4 of the baking show “Nailed It!” and delight in the debut of the dating series “Too Hot to Handle.”
Netflix is a global presence and it brings many of its international hits to American screens this month, including new seasons of Israel’s spy thriller “Fauda,” Spain’s crime drama “Money Heist” and England’s sport docuseries “Sunderland ’Til I Die.

Now that we’re self-isolating at home to help defeat the Covid-19 pandemic, this may be the perfect opportunity to catch up on things that have been in our Netflix watchlist for a long while.
The novel coronavirus, a mutated strand from the family of coronaviruses, originated from Wuhan, China late last year, but currently, every single country in the world is battling the outbreak. As of now, more than 714,000 people have contracted the disease and 33,617 have passed away due to severe cases of acute respiratory syndrome. In the Us alone, more than 139,000 patients have been identified and approximately 158 million people are under lockdown across all 50 states. While the ramifications of the Covid-19 may have dealt the world of economics an unprecedented blow, business models like Netflix have profited from people spending more time at home with little to do.

On the eve of March 24th, when Disney+ is expected to expand across the United Kingdom and various parts of Europe, we have compiled the definitive list of new content headed to the streaming platform and its three key competitors – namely Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu.
Yes, the so-called ‘streaming wars’ is now being fought on four fronts, and it’s fair to say that, despite being the fresh-faced newcomer, Disney+ is packing serious firepower. Thanks to its carefully calculated acquisitions over the years, the newly-released streaming service is packed to the rafters with top-tier content, including some excellent original series like The Mandalorian.
It’ll also get updated in a few days’ time (as is tradition), what with April 2020 just around the corner. Plus, with countries all over the globe enforcing measures to combat Coronavirus – self-isolation, social distancing… you name it – the Internet’s biggest streaming services will no...

“Unfortunately, no one can be told what The Matrix is. You’ll have to see it for yourself.”
As the ice-cool captain of the Nebuchadnezzar – Morpheus – puts so eloquently, it’s way better to witness the 1999 dystopian classic The Matrix with your very own eyes than have a guy like me describe it to you.
Indeed, though the Wachowski’s iconic sci-fi trilogy left Netflix just a couple of months ago, the streaming giant’s newest slate has been released and surprisingly, Neo, Trinity and Morpheus are all set to make their hyper-stylish return to the service.

You’ve probably heard the news that we’re all gonna be indoors for a little while. There’s no way around that and it sucks to hear. It also makes the usual entertainment stuff each month seem just a little more poignant. While Netflix reveals its new releases each month as a matter of course, the Netflix new releases for April 2020 obviously have some added import.
Thankfully it looks like Netflix is going to ease our social isolation with some easy-watching originals, and a handful of fun original and existing movie options. There isn’t a Stranger Things-like Netflix juggernaut on the schedule for April but there are excellent, bingeable shows like Nailed It! Coming of age stories have taken on some interesting supernatural themes. In the last few years alone we've seen movies about a vagina with teeth in Teeth, a young woman who turns out to be more than human in Wildling and the classic Ginger Snaps, and perhaps the most memorable of the bunch, a cannibal teen in Raw. One of the most recent additions to the subgenre is Lisa Bruhlmann's Blue My Mind.

Directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, Freaks effectively proves that you don’t need an overstuffed budget to create thrilling and innovative science fiction stories for the big screen, with the duo instead relying on a well-crafted and character-driven script, as well as some cleverly utilized digital tricks, never allowing any budgetary constraints to get in the way of their ambition as filmmakers looking to make their mark. Suffice to say, Freaks is the real deal, and features a trio of impressive performances from Bruce Dern, Emile Hirsch, and relative newcomer Lexy Kolker, who more than holds her own against her older cast mates.
Freaks introduces us to the world of the “Abnormals” (or “Freaks” for those who are a little less sensitive when it comes to labeling people who are different than others), a sizable portion of the population who have developed certain psycho-kinetic abilities, which understandably scares...

Female monsters are in vogue again, after their frequent occurrence in ’80s and ’90s horror films like “Misery,” “The Craft,” and “The Entity.” Recent indie flicks, from “Thoroughbreds” to “Wildling,” ruminate on the complex place at which terror and girlhood intersect. It’s rich subject matter for the genre: women’s oppression, these films argue, can spur females to do unspeakable, difficult things.

There’s been a quite interesting subgenre outburst of late that draws parallel relationships between coming-of-age sexual awakenings and creature transformations. Werewolves, amphibious swimmers, forest beasties – films like Blue My Mind, about bodily explorations based on youthful changes that cannot be contained. Director Lisa Brühlmann focuses not on vicious animal attacks as Wildling or The Lure does, falling more in line with something heady like When Animals Dream. How perfect a metaphor? Straight forward soul-searching dramas of youth like Lady Bird and The Edge Of Seventeen are not without their own “monster moments” – genrefication just adds another uninhibited layer of depth and scaly intrigue.
Brühlmann’s muse is 15-year-old Mia (Luna Wedler), dropped into a new hometown after her parents’ recent move. This means finding new friends and avoiding “fresh meat” hazing at school, which she does by befriending posh cool-girl Gianna (Zoë Pastelle Holthuizen). After a few showings of good faith,...

A trailer has been released for an upcoming new horror film called Wildling and I really like what I'm seeing from it. The story seems to offer us an intriguing and unique take on the werewolf genre. The movie has a great cast that includes Liv Tyler (The Lord of the Rings), Brad Dourif (The Lord of the Rings), and Bel Powly. I look forward to checking this out!
A teenage girl’s coming of age comes with a terrifying twist in this spellbinding take on the werewolf legend. Since birth, Anna (Bel Powley) has been raised in isolation by a man she knows only as Daddy (Chucky star Brad Dourif) who has done everything possible to conceal the truth about the girl’s origins from her. But when the teenage Anna is suddenly thrust into the real world under the protection of no-nonsense police officer Ellen (Liv Tyler), it...

Any good coming of age story needs a great hook to differentiate it from the sea of coming of age movies. So, what separates the upcoming film “Wildling” from the bunch? It’s a horror movie about a girl who may or may not be a werewolf. Sign me up, immediately.
The film premiered at SXSW earlier this month just after IFC Midnight picked it up. “Wildling” seems like a natural fit for the horror distribution company.

Wildling is Fritz Böhm’s first feature film, and it’s such an assured debut, darkly mystical and elegant. This nighttime fairy tale tells the story of Anna (Bel Powley), a young woman who’s spent much of her life locked in a room like Rapunzel, with only “Daddy” (Lord of the Rings’ Brad Dourif, in an equally […]

"Do you want to hear a story about the Wildling?" IFC Midnight has released the first official trailer for a new werewolf horror film titled Wildling, which just premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin this last week. The film stars Bel Powley (from The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Carrie Pilby) as a young woman who seems to be a she-wolf, discovering the truth about her origins and who she really is. The cast includes Liv Tyler, Brad Dourif, James Le Gros, Mike Faist, Troy Ruptash, and Charlotte Ubben. This actually doesn't look so bad, more of a drama than a horror, but it looks to get into some werewolf action by the end. The final shot in this trailer is cool, and they of course don't want to reveal much else besides that for now. But it grabbed my interest, and I think this might be worth a watch.

Growing up with fairy tales at bedtime from his mother, writer/director Fritz Böhm took these stories to heart. Indeed, these fairy tales were the critical influence behind the director’s feature directorial debut, the horror-fantasy thriller Wildling. Starring Liv Tyler, Troy Ruptash, and James LeGros, the SXSW-premiering film follows a blossoming teenager who uncovers a dark secret behind her traumatic childhood. In the film, as Böhm tells it, he would be able to create…...

Earlier this weekend, this writer had the opportunity to check out two wildly different films that enjoyed their world premieres as part of SXSW’s 2018 Visions slate: Fritz Böhm’s Wildling and Prospect from the directorial team of Zeek Earl and Chris Caldwell. Even though both movies feature a coming-of-age tale that centers on the relationship between a father and daughter, they are vastly different from each other, with Wildling going for more of a modern fairy tale approach, and Prospect being something of a scrappy yet wonderfully ambitious sci-fi western.
Wildling: For his feature film debut, Fritz Böhm introduces us to the world of “wildlings,” dangerous forest-dwelling creatures who steal and feast upon small children. We’re told about the threat they pose via a bedtime story from Daddy (Brad Dourif) who reminds his young daughter Anna of the threats that exist all around her. Because of the wildlings,...

Get Out, a genre sleeper hit rightfully boasted as having spawned ‘From the mind of Jordan Peele’, has seized online review aggregators & the box office as its own. Making back ($33.4m), already, nearly 6 times its budget ($4.5m) in its debuting weekend, Get Out looks to grow in the comings weeks and has, as of March 3rd amassed a $57.8 million gross revenue. Careers have been secured.
Pivotal to the realization of this social thriller: Toby Oliver Acs, a veteran D.P of small feature budgets and cutthroat schedules, applied his technical prowess and distinct eye to Jordan Peele’s idiosyncratic vision. His background in documentary as well as narrative features seems to lend him balance and clarity throughout his cinematographic perspective. Get Out, both in tonality & Oliver’s light and lensing, begins grounded and transitions to something more surreal. The language Oliver developed alongside writer/director Jordan Peele helps accennuate this change.

Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present and future. This week, a special Tiff edition.
Bel Powley isn’t your typical movie heroine – the British actress isn’t one for weapon-wielding or dystopian landscapes – but since her breakthrough in Marielle Heller’s Sundance darling “The Diary of a Teenage Girl,” Powley has made it her business to snag roles in Ya properties that happily buck convention in the crowded genre.
With the Toronto International Film Festival premiere “Carrie Pilby,” Powley has again taken on another thorny and complicated character – and, like “Diary,” another one sprung from a beloved piece of Ya fiction. Based on Caren Lissner’s popular novel of the same name, Susan Johnson’s film sets Powley as the eponymous Carrie Pilby, a teen genius who excels at intellectual pursuits but is woefully unable to connect to others on emotional or social levels.
