Recently, I had the chance to sit down with Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon, who are out promoting Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Both Rudd and Coon have been outspoken in their love of the original Ghostbusters, as well as the original cast, and I couldn’t help but put them both on the spot a little bit. Given that young audiences are discovering the original Ghostbusters thanks to these new movies, I wondered which classic comedy featuring some of the cast Rudd and Coon might suggest younger audiences check out next.
“I love so many of them. I might say Stripes because of the Harold Ramis connection there. But, you can also do Groundhog Day because of the Harold Ramis connection. Or Caddyshack. I mean, my God, there’s so many! And with Aykroyd, The Blues Brothers is obviously such a major thing.”

Steve Lawrence, a king among easy-listening crooners who rocketed to fame in the ’50s and ’60s as half of the duo Steve and Eydie, died Thursday at age 88. Lawrence died at home in Los Angeles, and the cause of death was complications from Alzheimer’s disease, according to a spokesperson for the family, Susan DuBow.
Lawrence’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis had finally put an end to his touring career in 2019, after a run in the public eye that spanned six and a half decades.
Lawrence was preceded in death in 2013 by his wife, Eydie Gormé, with whom he enjoyed nearly unparalleled success as a performing couple during their heyday as touring artists and TV stars in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. The couple had continued to tour together through 2009.

Steve Lawrence, the charismatic Grammy- and Emmy-winning crooner who delighted audiences for decades in nightclubs, on concert stages and in film and television appearances, died Thursday. He was 88.
Lawrence, who partnered in a popular act with his wife of 55 years, the late Eydie Gormé, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease, a publicidst announced.
With his boyish good looks, silky voice and breezy personality, Lawrence broke into show business when he won a talent competition on Arthur Godfrey’s CBS show and signed with King Records as a teenager. The singer chose to stay old school and resist the allure of rock ‘n’ roll.
“It didn’t attract me as much,” Lawrence once said. “I grew up in a time period when music was written by Irving Berlin and Cole Porter and George and Ira Gershwin and Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart and Sammy Cahn and Julie Stein.

You may be unfamiliar with Please Don't Destroy, a comedy trio best known for their work in and within Saturday Night Live. Since 2021 they've contributed pre-recorded elements to the show. The Treasure Of Foggy Mountain therefore joins a long and august tradition of cast members making films. For every Wayne's World, Blues Brothers and without alliteration Ghostbusters, there's A Night At The Roxbury or a Coneheads. The Treasure Of Foggy Mountain is far more of the latter than the former, and it's vanishingly unlikely that anyone not already familiar with Please Don't Destroy will be minded to become so, especially after having seen it.
Saturday Night Live's influence on American comedy is as pernicious and pervasive as that of Cambridge Footlights on British humour. There are further connections with The National Lampoon growing out of Harvard, though their sophomoric tendencies were most visible in Animal House. There's...

Making a top ten list of your favourite movies can be difficult, but is it any easier when you narrow that list down to a single decade? IndieWire asked dozens of filmmakers to put together a list of their favourite 80s movies, and the results are as widely varied as the decade itself. Which 80s movies does Bill Hader hold dear to his heart? What are some of Nia DaCosta’s favourites? Can Edgar Wright actually contain himself to just ten movies? What horror movies of the 80s top Eli Roth’s list?
Bill Hader’s (Barry) Favourite 80s Movies:

If you were a kid in the early 1990s, you were probably a fan of Mike Myers and Dana Carvey in the "Saturday Night Live" sketch "Wayne's World." Myers played Wayne Campbell, a metal fan who shot a cable access show in his mom's basement with his buddy Garth Algar (Dana Carvey). The bit spawned a whole lot of catchphrases like the self-explanatory "schwing" when they saw a pic of a beautiful woman. Not every "SNL" sketch can support an entire movie, but "Wayne's World" not only managed one but two. In fact, it was the second "SNL" sketch to become a film after "Blues Brothers" and the first to get a sequel.
"Wayne's World," directed by Penelope Spheeris, infamously gave rise to a lot of rumors about Myers being difficult to work with during filming. In an episode of The Hollywood Reporter's "It Happened in Hollywood" podcast, Spheeris spoke about the experience,...

Universal has moved “Strays” from June 9 to August 18, placing the R-rated talking-animal comedy in the same general release slot where the likes of “Good Boys” and “We’re The Millers” found fortune and glory in years prior. Now, instead of opening against “Transformers: Rise of the Beast,” itself something of a talking-animal tentpole, it’ll square off against DC’s “Blue Beetle.”
It will replace the untitled comedy from the Please Don’t Destroy comedy group. That film, starring “Saturday Night Live” vets Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy, will now go straight to Peacock on Nov. 17. It further highlights the challenges in releasing big new comedies in theaters since you still might need big new stars. While most “Saturday Night Live” movies were not theatrically successful, “Wayne’s World” and “Blues Brothers” are the exception, the near-disappearance of the SNL comedian-to-movie star pipeline is one reason why we have yet...

If you thought the original The Blues Brothers didn’t warrant a sequel–especially after John Belushi’s death–then you undoubtedly don’t think 1998’s illogically titled Blues Brothers 2000 does. Still, that hasn’t stopped ideas for another Blues Brothers sequel from popping into star Dan Aykroyd’s head, something he has pestered Belushi’s younger brother, Jim, about for some time now.
In a new interview, Jim Belushi revealed that Dan Aykroyd has several ideas as to how to turn The Blues Brothers into a full-blown trilogy. “[Dan Aykroyd] actually, you know, he’s always got ideas. I mean, he’s got this whole thing about, you know, ‘I find Jake’s brother in Albania, you know. I find out there was another brother, a Blues Brother. And I go to Albania and I find him and I bring him out. He doesn’t speak English.’” This additional brother...

Since 1980, the weekly sketch show "Saturday Night Live" has produced eleven feature films based on its characters. "The Blues Brothers" was released in 1980 and remains one of our favorite "SNL" movies (though it's debatable how much of an "SNL" movie it is with no Lorne Michaels attached). It was another 12 years before another "SNL" movie came out, and it was worth the wait. The 1990s were the heyday for a proliferation "SNL" movies, beginning in 1992 with the beloved "Wayne's World."
The rest of the decade was hit or miss for "SNL" movies in terms of quality. We saw the return of Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtain in the heartwarming "Coneheads." Will Ferrell got his first leading role with "A Night at the Roxbury." There was an awful "Blues Brothers" sequel for some reason. And does anyone even remember they made an entire movie with Julia Sweeney's androgynous character, "It's...

The cocaine budget for the Blues Brothers was thought to be something of a joke by some. But quite honestly it was about as real as it got. Back in those days a lot of actors were snorting lines and taking other recreational drugs as a common habit, but few were doing nearly as much as John Belushi. It’d be fun to think that all of his bits in every movie he’d ever made were done without any influence from the white powder, but it seems like that would contradict the stories that have been told about how much he

The Fast and Furious movies aren't the only ones with great car chases. Join us as we take a look at the 50 best car chase scenes in film. This week, we're counting down from #25 to #1!
Like peanut butter and jelly, car chases and movies are two things that just go together perfectly. A chase is inherently interesting to watch - someone is trying their best to get away by any means possible, while the other party is trying to stop them from doing so. The danger involved, the threat of violence, and even the thrill of the hunt are all part of why we often can’t look away. A car chase is the next level of chase. They are fast - an embodiment of man and machine together. They are also dangerous - the stakes are incredibly high, and not just for the people involved in the chase.

Dan Aykroyd was one of the speakers at Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds's public memorial at Forest Lawn Cemetery in La on Saturday. The former Saturday Night Live cast member paid tribute to ex-fiancée Carrie by taking a walk down memory lane and recalling a time when Carrie choked on a brussel sprout and he performed the Heimlich maneuver on her. "If I'd been with our beloved showboat, I might have been able to save her again," he told the audience. Dan and Carrie met on the set of Saturday Night Live and fell in love while filming Blues Brothers in 1980. Their relationship quickly became serious as they "obtained blood tests for compatibility from an East Indian female doctor" before getting engaged, though they eventually called it quits and Carrie went on to marry Paul Simon. During a recent interview with Empire magazine, Dan referred to Carrie as "one...

Some of the best remembrances are nothing more than a collection of disjointed memories. That’s what this essay from Dan Aykroyd is. Aykroyd and the late Carrie Fisher were engaged to be married at one time, and in this memoriam he focuses not on the bigger picture of their courtship but the smaller moments that still resonate many years later. It’s nearly impossible to encapsulate a person’s soul or influence in words, after all, and Aykroyd’s collection of words, jokes, and recollections provides a uniquely moving look at the actress.
In the essay, he notes how they fell in love on the set of Blues Brothers before touching on his relationship with her family, a romantic Lake Tahoe getaway, and a few small details about their last night together. It’s a passage like the following, however, that hits the hardest:
While in Chicago we obtained...

The unexpected breakthrough hit launched a new era of blockbuster movies and a religious devotion from audiences to the series, and Fisher even revisited the role – as General Leia Organa – in 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She also wrote seven books, the latest being a memoir of her initial “Star Wars” days,...
