Just finished this one on YouTube and I really enjoyed it!

The acting was decent enough, but the kills is where it was really at. For a small budget, the kills were completely awesome and well done!!

The atmosphere of the movie was perfect for a Friday the 13th film as well.

The guy playing Jason also was perfectly menacing and creepy. Plus the headless corpse of Pamela Voorhees was a nice touch.

    Great ending too!

Excellent job to everyone involved in this and hopefully we will get to see a sequel soon!!
  • Taking place shortly after "Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter", this 2021 fan-made movie was actually not all that bad.

The storyline in "Jason Rising", as written by Vincente DiSanti, Vincente DiSanti, Maurice J Cardwell and Robert Blanche, proved to be a fair enough foray unofficially into the "Friday the 13th" franchise. It was definitely an interesting take on the events following the fourth movies in the official franchise.

There was a good amount of action throughout the course of the movie, which made it a fast-paced movie, and that spoke well in favor of the movie.

The acting performances in the movie were fair enough, and I was impressed with the fact that they managed to get Amy Steel (voice only) and Adrienne King to appear in the movie. That was a special sweet for the fans of the franchise.

Jason was quite brutal in the movie, almost savage. And I have to say that I liked the way that Dan Kyle brought Jason to life (pardon the pun) on the screen.

A fair fan-made addition to the franchise, but there are more entertaining fan-made movies out there.

My rating of director James Sweet's 2021 movie "Jason Rising" lands on a six out of ten stars.
  • Plot

An escaped fugitive is on the run hunted by an elite group of trackers and bounty hunters but little do they know they are the hunted when they enter the hallowed grounds of Jason Voorhees.

    Cast

Familiar faces including those from earlier Friday movies and those involved in Friday 13th fan films..............but nobody really worth a nod.

    Verdict

I'm binge watching Friday 13th fan films at the moment and there are no shortage, from the Never Hike Alone movies to the Vengeance ones and everything in between there's so very many and the quality very much varies as you can imagine.

Out of the big ones the Never Hike films stand at the forefront, whereas this is somewhere at the back of the line.

This doesn't follow the series, this wedges itself in after the first couple of films which both helps and hinders it. It helps because Jason can look more human and therefore save on budget and effects, it harms because human Jason doesn't exactly cut the same imposing figure as his more modern counter parts.

The elements with the mother were a nice touch, but on the flip side enter a fantastical realm that I'm sure many won't appreciate.

The film itself is mediocre, it plays it very safe, it's bland, the cast are forgettable and the whole thing just felt so very very meh! Maybe I'm burned out on Jason, or maybe I've just witnessed what pinnacles fan films can reach and this simply doesn't come close.

    Rants

What is it with Friday 13th fan films and shilling? I mean I already see that people who make them are often buddies and you'll find the director from one be the producer for another and so forth and as I've learned there's some animosity between certain parties as well. But why the shilling? It's a well known fact I hate the act but I've never seen it so consistent, is it all part of them being in competition with one another? Don't you realize it has the opposite effect and damages your credibility? I see multiple 10/10 reviews with excessive praise, name dropping the director and with similar wording then I'm going to know your film is a joke and so are you for playing such a foolish blatant game.

    Breakdown

Returning cast is a nice touch Mother element is interesting Rather boring Plays it too safe Weak kills.

This is definitely a superior Friday the 13th fan film. Jason is awesome! The actor playing Jason looks and moves exactly as Ted White, the Part 4 Jason.

All of the actors did a great job! I love the kills. The atmosphere is haunting and excellent looking. The actress who played Pamela was great and looked similar to Betsy Palmer. The music is spooky! It was a first to see Jason use a chainsaw and get injured by a chainsaw.

What makes this fan film a cut above the rest (pun intended) was the return of Alice Hardy and Ginny Fields. I absolutely LOVED Adrienne King back as Alice, and the cameo of Amy Steel with Dr. Ginny Fields. It makes more sense that Alice lives, and the beginning of Friday the 13th Part 2 was just a dream sequence.

Two small criticisms: One thing that was a bit cheesy was Pamela running around with no head; that's more fitting in Evil Dead than Friday the 13th. Also, I would have loved MORE Alice and Ginny.

Overall, excellent Friday the 13th fan film! I hope you make more, especially with Alice and Ginny and this Jason actor. I really enjoyed it. I wish the cast and crew all the best!

Anyone who gave this review anything over 5 is high! This takes a few years after the Final Chapter, yet they have modern vehicles, guns, and flashlights..also...an issue of Fangoria a few years old. This movie would be set in the end of the 80s or start of the 90s...also...cell phones!!- and one of the prisoners have one. Bad acting and bad writing(this what happens when six people are writing this)..No concept of time...Day, Night, Day, Night...and no one slept, camped, or eaten...but seemed only minutes passed. .. Bad fan film.
  • Oh my gosh, where do I even start? I helped support this film two years ago, and it was definitely worth the wait. The cinematography alone is worth the watch. Just the first five minutes are beautiful to look at. Very colorful! This would be the perfect film to watch in October. There were many nods and easter eggs to past Friday movies. The movie itself is only an hour long, but it's jam-packed with atmosphere, great kills, great storyline, great gore, great practical effects, and a great twist in the end that I never saw coming! It was totally kept a secret, and I squealed when the moment came. Jason is very cool looking and scary. The film even has a decapitated Mrs. Voorhees wandering around Crystal Lake and killing people.

The film is set after the events of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Jason has been buried for years, and things have been quiet around Crystal Lake. Soon, three convicted felons break out of prison and being hunted by Jed and Bear, with the help of Sheriff Daltry and Deputy Eve Glover. The felons enter the long abandoned Camp Crystal Lake, and Jason is no longer dormant. With the help of his ghost/zombie/decapitated mother, he's resurrected and ready to kill again. (This has one of the best kills in the series, that's similar to a death in Mortal Kombat)

If you're a die-hard Friday the 13th fan, please treat yourself to this fan film. It's free on Youtube right now. Curl up in a blanket for an hour and enjoy the epicness. These guys did a lot of hard work to give us a great film, and it was worth it. There are many nods to the other films, and possibly an Evil Dead reference. I would highly recommend JASON RISING: A FRIDAY THE 13TH FAN FILM!!!
  • Some of the shots a pretty cool. But only for a moment. Not sure how to pin point the incompetence of this film. The kills are mediocre. The acting is worse but I dont know if I can blame the actors for that considering the writing is atrocious. The make up is very good though and I can tell thats where most the budget went. Also where the hell did the chopped off penis come from? Completely pointless and weird. Everything involving guns is so unrealistic it hurts. The only other plus I can think of is the set design was good. And the idea they had going with Jason and his mother wasn't bad. Ultimately just another bad fan film.

Have just finished watching this movie it was ok for a B grade, but i think that they missed a great opportunity to start it off from the beginning and keep Jason alive through out all these movies that they are going to do other than that it was ok.
  • What a great treat for a fan film with an original storyline but with so many subtle and not so subtle nods to the old films in the franchise. Must watch for all fans. The ending was awesome!
  • Warning: Spoilers
Considering this is a fan film, made without the resources of Hollywood, they made a fair attempt. This apparently takes place after the events of Part IV- The Final Chapter and shows officers burying a still alive Jason Voorhees in a chained shut coffin on the grounds of Camp Crystal Lake. Although the Thom Matthews Tommy Jarvis and Officer Rick Cologne (from Part VI) appeared in the Never Hike Alone contributions to the franchise, they did not appear in this one.

This movie appears to take place in present day, seeing as how modern equipment, including cell phones are so prevalent. So, from that, I infer that after being buried, Jason has remained dormant in the ground for over 30 years. We are left to assume that nobody has trespassed onto the camp property until now. Three escaped female convicts then trespass onto the Camp Crystal Lake Property, pursued by law enforcement.

Due to the trespassers, a decayed and still decapitated Pamela Voorhees rises from her grave, which is also apparently on the grounds of the camp and exhumes and frees Jason. Jason kills the convicts and begins to take out the law enforcement officers. The headless Pamela Voorhees also runs around drawing the fire of officers.

Jason appears to be killed with a chainsaw and the two surviving officer's escape to the work center the convicts escaped from. Mrs. Voorhees, now with her head reattached shows up and attacks. A mystery guest then shows up and decapitates Mrs. Voorhees saying "I never thought I'd have to do that again." Yes....our mystery guest is Alice Hardy, the final girl from the original film. Although the start of Part 2 showed her being killed, we could always dismiss that as a dream sequence. The Jason shows up and Alice kills him too, finishing him off with an ice pick - seemingly the same one we saw her killed with at the start of Part 2.

It is revealed Alice is actually in a witness protection program, but still lives practically right next door to the camp, instead of being somewhere far away like New Mexico. So, that didn't make any sense. We also see Jason's coffin sent into Crystal Lake where it sinks.

The final scene is a little problematic too. Alice Hardy decides to keep Pamela Voorhees' head and puts it in a box.

Now, here is where the best scene of the movie comes in. It was almost a great scene, but it stopped short. As Alice is putting Pamela's head in a box, the camera pans over various bottles of medication, a book on recovering from trauma, and her cell phone. Her phone rings and the face of Ginny from Part 2 shows up on the screen. Ginny leaves a message for Alice as Dr. Ginny Field checking in to see how she was doing. Now, this could have been a fantastic scene if instead of Ginny Field, her name came up as Ginny Holt. Paul and Ginny both survived Part 2. It was left ambiguous at the end of Part 2, but Part 3 reinforced that they both survived. Having Ginny's name come up as Ginny Holt would have been a great ending!
  • Thank you to the filmmakers of Jason Rising for giving us everything we have longed to see in a Friday the 13th film. The kills are amazing and the returns were unexpected and a great surprise. Jason is back!
  • For a crowd sourced movie on a limited budget, this movie was AWESOME. Cinematography, score, and the overall atmosphere takes you right back to vintage Crystal Lake.

The kills were brutal and imaginative and Jason was properly menacing. The addition of the Mrs Voorhees character was interesting and I thought it really worked.

Absolutely LOVED all the "nods and winks" to prior movie lore, and it felt like the producers made a "love letter" to fans of this franchise.

If I had any complaints: I wished it were a longer movie! By time you get super into it, it's already over. They did set themselves up nicely for a sequel, if they decide to (and I hope they do).

This can definitely be added to the list of quality fan film submissions in the F13 Universe (Never Hike Alone, Vengeance, Voorhees.)
  • Jason Rising was so much fun! I hope they make another. The scenery was beautiful and atmospheric.. best part!??! LIKEABLE CHARACTERS! THANK YOU FOR THAT.
  • This was such a pleasure to view, The film looked stunning. Horror fans the world over should see this as soon as they can the perfect friday film great story, kills and great acting, For s horror series like friday the 13th that does have some poor films in it this was just what friday fans were after highly entertaining.
  • Really enjoyed it. It was well put together. Great storyline, music & fx. Love the originality in the kills and the gore.
  • This fan film is stunning in so many ways. The visuals are beautiful and and will keep you rewinding again and again just to see them again. I applaud the creative minds behind this film, and will be devastated if we don't get a second one.
  • Some great kills in the film and great casting. Amazing visuals, more cinematic than some Hollywood releases. Seriously amazing shots. Plot trudged in a couple places but overall very well done. Pacing is only a little slow in the middle, it gets kicked off right away. Can't believe they pulled this off during the pandemic. I don't want to pull any spoilers here but stick around to the end for some good fun. Fun new take on the old Jason story line.

I loved this film. The cinematography, writing and acting were good and the overall tone of the film was true-to-form for the F13 camp (pun intended).
