Evil Dead Rise
(2023)

Great horror movie but not a great Evil Dead movie
If you have seen the Evil Dead 2013 remake then you basically already saw this except that one somehow felt more sinister. There's some great scares and kills/attacks but it does feel like it is missing something and I can't put my finger on it.

The main reason to watch this is for Alyssa Sutherland's performance...she truly shines and I only wish there was more of her in it because she's the only deadite I was truly terrified of. Other deadites were kind of cool but didn't really intimidate me. There seems to be a lot of inspiration from other Zombie flicks/video games in recent years (just wait til the end...AHEM The Last of Us 2).

Just go into this to have a good time and try not to expect something beyond what we've already watched in this franchise.

Incredible Atmosphere, Maybe A Little Long
This is truly one of the spookiest things I have watched in recent years and perfectly captures the feeling of being trapped in a gut-wrenching nightmare. As enjoyable as the almost tangible dread may be it does seem to drag out at some parts....perhaps 10-20 minutes shorter and it would have been perfect.

The filming style is very disorienting and meant to be enjoyed in the dark with minimal distractions. Voices are muffled, sometimes completely inaudible minus subtitles and characters are only partially shown. The sound is so peaked at times if there's any kind of sudden loud noise/jump scare it makes it 10 times more effective. Very much reminds me of the infamous puppet combo games.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique horror experience and/or if you're a fan of David Lynch's work.

Little Demon

Bloody & Hilarious
Honestly this show was a huge surprise to me. I had seen some people on TikTok trying to talk it down for being so "evil" and anti-Christian but watching it has been a breath of fresh air. Sure it can be very over-the-top and gross similar to Rick And Morty but there is also a certain charm to it. For people who can't handle nudity, gore, and pervasive language this won't be for you but those of us who have been aching for more mature animation this is exactly what we need. Voice acting is top-notch and animation, while kind of stiff, still looks very modern and is easy on the eyes. I hope people give this show a chance and don't bash it just because their religion won't allow it.

Use Your Brain; Don't Trust These Reviewers
Even if you don't love this movie giving it 1-3/10 is just a joke. The movie easily tops the rest of the movies besides the first and even then sometimes surpassed it. If you like dinosaurs, intense action, funny moments, and a great cast you'll definitely enjoy this.

Dune
(2021)

Unreal
Truly a masterpiece. Some of the best visuals I have ever seen in any piece of media. Sound design only enhanced it and made this a real cinema-going treat. If you don't like long slow-burners then you may want to skip it but this was dripping with so much atmosphere I found myself unable to look away. It's like the early seasons of game of thrones if they took place on an alien planet. I sincerely hope we don't have a massive wait time for the second part but if it needs time to fully bake I'm sure it will be worth it regardless.

Jungle Cruise
(2021)

Very Fun Adventure Movie, Slightly Awkward Writing
This movie is quite reminiscent of The Mummy as some have mentioned. Cheesy, funny, cool SFX, and lots of action. Some characters aren't exactly well-written and humorous moments sometimes fall flat but overall it was very enjoyable. Disney may not always hit the mark but this one definitely deserves some praise. If anything may draw you to go see it it has a unique quality for as much as it borrows from others in the genre.

Mortal Kombat
(2021)

Fun, Ridiculous, & Bloody
While this movie isn't going to win any awards it was extremely entertaining and made me feel like a kid all over again. The fighting is phenomenal and while CGI can be hit or miss it was very pleasing to watch overall. I'm hoping that if a sequel does happen they could give a little more time for character development but I understand that it's hard to introduce so many random characters without it being 3 hours long. I recommend you at the very least check it out on HBO max if you're weary about paying for movie tickets because you shouldn't miss out on this.

Wonder Woman 1984

Review-Bombing Needs To STOP Now!
That was one of the best comic book films I have ever seen. I'm not even exaggerating I was crying and clapping by the end! People are so full of it it's honestly unreal. If you think this is the worst movie you have ever seen my friend, you need to get out more. God you people are absurd and can't appreciate anything nowadays can you? Top-notch CGI, great acting, interesting and different plot. What more could you morons possibly need?

Imawa no Kuni no Arisu

Calm Down Review-Bombers
This is a brilliant show that feels like a true live-action adaptation of an anime. Pacing is great, characters are well-developed, action and CGI is top-notch. Anyone bashing this show is either not into Japanese shows or just jumping on the hate bandwagon. You wanna know why people rate this so highly? Because it is actually that good. Don't listen to miserable people who can't appreciate quality television.

The Haunting of Bly Manor
(2020)

Not bad, but nothing like the first series
The first of the "Haunting" series was scary, emotional, and felt complete. This second iteration just doesn't quite hit the mark and I literally had to drudge through the middle of it. In fact I took a short break from the show just to decide if it was worth finishing. I will put it this way....I am a huge fan of slow-burners...but there is such a thing as dragging out a story for too long. Not all characters are equal on a show like this and when it insists on doing a solo episode of one of the most boring people it makes it almost impossible to continue. This is not a "masterpiece" as some put it and whether it's a drama, romance, or horror first it doesn't change the fact that it can be dreadfully dull. The first couple episodes and the last 2 episodes had some great scares and great explanation for all of the goings-on but everything in between was repetitive and tedious. Also since it's Netflix they just HAD to make the main character be a lesbian. I am bisexual so I don't mind same-sex couples but for the love of god why must it be a "plot twist" or spectacle in everything Netflix releases? It's not shocking for people to like the same gender so don't waste time on making it a plot point. Furthermore, in the last bit of the finale, are we supposed to believe that these people being told, and telling, the story are supposed to be the people from Bly Manor? They look nothing alike except for MAYBE Flora but that is about it. I'm not gonna say completely skip this show but don't be surprised if you feel like fast-forwarding through half of it. I think my rating for this show is...a "perfectly splendid" 5/10.

Raised by Wolves: The Beginning
(2020)
Episode 10, Season 1

Review-bombing needs to end!
Such a fantastic ending to the season and adds even more mystery to an already amazing show. How on earth is this "disgusting" and "poor"? Are you people out of your minds? Stop complaining and go watch something else if disturbing sci-fi makes you uncomfortable. In no way did the show go downhill and I sincerely hope new fans of the show do not fall for the hate spam.

Monsterland: Eugene, Oregon
(2020)
Episode 5, Season 1

Had potential but fell short...
Not really sure what went wrong here. The atmosphere was fantastic and I liked the premise of this troubled teen dealing with a paranormal experience. It actually reminded me of when I was growing up so I almost felt like I could relate to him. The online friends being in his room like people just hanging out was a cool concept but made less sense the more conversations they had. The shadow wasn't intimidating at all but I still felt a little creeped out by not knowing what might happen to him next. The ending, or lack there of, is the main reason this failed...you see like...light shooting the shadow??? And then it just ends abruptly. It's like they couldn't wait to wrap this episode up and just quickly finished it off. Such a shame!

Utopia
(2020)

Amazing show, regardless of it being a remake
Every episode has me on the edge of my seat and the cast is fantastic. People crying about it not being as good as the UK version need to get off their high horse. Really hope this show makes it and people stop review-bombing it.

Servant
(2019)

You will either love it or hate it
Seems people are very divided on this show. If you are familiar with any of M. Night's work then you have an idea of what to expect. You will definitely be surprised as the story unfolds and there are some very unsettling moments. Camera angles make you feel the discomfort and creates a atmosphere only enhanced by the brilliant soundtrack. The core cast of the show is pretty great but man are some supporting characters obnoxious, Rupert Grint being the worst. I honestly hoped for his character to get killed off at some point but of course they kept him all the way through. Not sure if it is just the way he carries himself or his terrible accent or the pompous attitude they gave him but man did it kill some scenes. His girlfriend or whatever the hell she was (I somehow got lost on that) is also just as bad and she is only there for a few episodes! Besides those two, you will definitely feel for the family and even the nanny...regardless of what her and her "family" does (the ending makes reference to the title of this show....though it still isn't clear her role in the cult). If you have an Apple product and are interested in what appletv+ has to offer then give this show a shot. If you are the right kind of person you will be glued to your television!

In the Tall Grass
(2019)

Confusing And Intriguing Film Hindered By Weak Cast
I will say first that you should probably watch this if you are hesitant at all. It isn't the best two hours you will ever spend but the concept is very interesting. There are some definite dragging scenes with less than exciting actors and yet peppered in between there are intense moments that make it feel worthwhile. It gets under your skin and makes you question ever going in a corn maze again.

Jumanji: The Next Level
(2019)

Super cute movie, just as good as the last!
This is how you make a sequel. Adds on to the original story while creating a new one, keeps all the main characters the same, and is just as high quality as the first!

Charlie's Angels
(2019)

Did I just see a different movie or...?
This was so cute! The casting was perfect, great soundtrack, and cool direction to take the franchise. People bashing this can't get over girl empowerment and are the reason we have a Women's March annually. Go see this if you aren't afraid of women and like comedy action films.

Joker
(2019)

Unreal Performance...
If Joaquin Phoenix doesn't get an Oscar for this it will only be because Hollywood is too sensitive. Probably best portrayal of the Joker yet...even though I still love Heath Ledger's version. This is just on another level! Would only warn against seeing this if you can't handle disturbing images/violence/dialogue. I have seen some of the worst cinema has to offer and I still got nervous sweats and felt incredibly uncomfortable the whole way through. Good luck!

It Chapter Two
(2019)

Don't be turned off by "meh" reviews
I only rate movies highly when I truly believe they are something special. Not gonna say that this is the best movie of all time nor the best horror film but it is incredible nonetheless. Maybe some think it goes on too long, others think it is nothing special...that if you saw the first then you aren't gonna be surprised. If you enjoyed movies like The Shining, another Stephen King classic, you will more than likely love this. It has some extremely disturbing moments, some predictable but awesome jumpscares, and even some great campiness not dissimilar to a Sam Raimi film. SFX this time around were somehow even better albeit a little excessive (looking at you final showdown) and the camerawork was top notch. If you like an engrossing horror story then you won't be disappointed either (did I mention how long this was?).

All in all a great experience that reviews cannot determine and a beautiful end(?) to an insane story.

Spider-Man: Far from Home
(2019)

Marvel Never Fails, Even If They Have Come Close
I don't know how they keep doing it but once again this movie took me by storm. Tom Holland is the perfect Spiderman, Zendaya is a surprisingly incredible MJ, and the supporting cast is just plain adorable. Marvel consistently churns out these incredible films and it just blows my mind! Black Panther and Iron Man 3 were not perfect....neither was Age of Ultron...but considering how many films they have made it is nuts that they even do well when they do "bad". Fans of the MCU will not be disappointed and the twist with "Mysterio" is absolutely jaw-dropping. I haven't been that surprised by a twist in anything ever...like I literally looked around the theater to make sure I wasn't dreaming. And don't even get me started with the mid-credits scene...that just blew my mind even more.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters
(2019)

Freaking Insane!
Absolutely one of THE best monster films you will ever see. Super campy acting at times but it is super lovable. Intense action pretty much non-stop. CGI is top notch and very believable considering how absurd the concept of giant monsters is. Go see this even if you are hesitant, you will NOT be disappointed.

Avengers: Endgame
(2019)

Took My Breath Away
Such a beautiful way to end such a fantastic series...or, rather, to end this chapter. Marvel has really outdone themselves and no other film could put that many avengers/superheroes on one screen and make it that good. I hope you haven't spoiled the movie for yourself if you are at all hesitant...whether it be fear of disappointment or not wanting to sit there for 3+ hours. Anyone that has kept up with all the movies will be blown away. Thank you Russo Brothers for making such a beautiful film.

Captain Marvel
(2019)

What an incredible movie!
Possibly one of my favorite marvel movies now. It takes a few to take off but once it does holy crap did it blow me away. Everyone should be aware by now that Marvel Studios cannot make a bad movie and so anyone calling this bad can eat a chode. 😜

Bumblebee
(2018)

Really Pulls At Your Heart Strings
This might be one of the cutest movies I have ever seen. The bond between Bumblebee and Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) is incredible...especially considering he is CGI. It honestly feels like the live-action version of The Iron Giant so if you like that movie you will love this! Just make sure you bring some tissues lol 😂🖤

Aquaman
(2018)

Absolutely Fantastic
If you are having any doubts about this, stop right now. I am a Marvel stan but movies like this show me that DC is capable of producing incredible movies. Wonder Woman blew my mind and this did just the same. Of course there is some cheese (Patrick Wilson I am looking at you) but it didn't tarnish anything. When the movie ended I wanted more...so thank god for that mid-credits scene. Considering how well this is reviewed I am positive there will be a sequel. So to make it simple...if you like attractive leading roles with fantastic personalities, non-stop action (and I really mean non-stop), and beautiful CGI with equally beautiful camerawork, this is the movie for you.
