After the two-fold delay involving the pandemic and the following WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Prime Video’s The Boys, among numerous other shows, has severely lagged at marketing its future plans to the public. As productions slowly get back on track, updates regarding the fates of some of the industry’s most prized shows are also being revealed accordingly.

Sicario was, in many ways, the first film that introduced the mainstream audience to the brilliance of Taylor Sheridan as a scriptwriter. Denis Villeneuve, although present in the movie scene since the late 90s, was the only director who could have brought Sheridan’s twisted vision of complex human behavior to the screens without ruining the original story.
Emily Blunt and Daniel Kaluuya in Sicario [Credit: Lionsgate Films]Those among the fans who hadn’t been aware of Villeneuve’s existence in the form of Polytechnique (2009) or Incendies (2010) surely sat up and took notice. Soon after, Taylor Sheridan and Denis Villeneuve became part of those rare handful of writer-directors whose names increased ticket sales just as much as any A-lister would. Ultimately, Sicario launched them both into the Hollywood stratosphere.

In 2016, Zack Snyder launched Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The outing marked DC Studios’ next big take on the character following the immense acclaim received just years earlier with the Christian Bale version helmed by Christopher Nolan. However, unlike its predecessor, the ambitious, dark, gritty, and unhinged Dceu version failed to strike a chord at the box office, with a canonical wipeout coming in with 2023’s The Flash.

Matt Damon has been in some amazing films and has worked with some of the greatest directors working today. The actor has had the great opportunity to star in films directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, and Ridley Scott. Not many actors have had the privilege to work with those legends of cinema.
Matt Damon as Mark Watney in Ridley Scott’s The Martian | 20th Century Fox
Damon first worked with Scott on the sci-fi drama The Martian in 2015 and the historical epic The Last Duel in 2021. The former saw him play a botanist who fights for survival on Mars. Despite the dreary and dire circumstances, the film manages to infuse humor about the character’s circumstances. Scott had the perfect way to balance the comedy along with the tension of survival.

The so-called "MonsterVerse" is nowadays as silly as the original Toho "Godzilla" sequels became. The franchise's first entry, 2014's divisive but successful "Godzilla," looks downright anomalous. Directed with impeccable scale and craftsmanship by Gareth Edwards, the film exercises careful restraint, escalating the spectacle to make it more satisfying. The palette is made from smog and fire, i.e. what Godzilla and his monster adversaries (the MUTOs) leave in their wake. As star Elizabeth Olsen noted, the film is cut from the cloth of the original 1954 "Godzilla," where the eponymous monster is an allegory for nuclear destruction and natural disasters.
2014's "Godzilla" isn't perfect. It has a so-so script and Aaron Taylor-Johnson feels out of his depth as the lead (even if "The Fall Guy" proved he can be a movie star). Compared to the other MonsterVerse movies, though, it looks like "Jaws."
When Edwards' "Godzilla" went into production, the franchise was in a bad place.

Christian Bale has scored quite a few remarkably successful projects as one of the best actors in the industry, and he hasn’t hesitated to perform immaculately in pretty much every single one of them either. But while all of them are commendable, perhaps none comes as close to perfection as The Dark Knight, helmed by the mastermind Christopher Nolan.

Besides quite literally being regarded as one of the best Batman movies created to date, the second titular movie in this film series also even holds a major record that would be hard to replicate for any other movie. The masterpiece stars such legendary actors with such impeccable acting chops that pretty much the entire main cast has been acknowledged by the Academy at least once.

Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy is among his highest-grossing films, whereas the fourth installment in the Thor franchise faced a huge backlash. Christopher Nolan is among the most acclaimed and well-respected directors of our time, and he has proven his creative chops one too many times. An avid fan of old-school practical effects and IMAX cameras, Nolan has his own vision for how cinema should be and follows it religiously, making some of the best movies out there.
However, his own skills and vision don’t prevent Nolan from seeing the state of the industry as a whole, and the celebrated director doesn’t like what he sees.
Nolan Exposed the 'McDonalds Approach'
During his recent interview at the Cannes Film Festival, Christopher Nolan touched upon many subjects. He specifically addressed how the technological advancements made filmmaking much easier — but also led to streamlining the process, resulting in thousands upon thousands of movies that look, feel, and essentially are the same.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films are visual spectacles, but there’s one thing that elevates the look of the films completely. Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-winning musical score in Dune and his subsequent work in Dune: Part Two were both integral parts of Villeneuve’s storytelling. However, unlike Christopher Nolan, the Sicario director did one thing to avoid limiting the musician’s perspective.

During a recent interview, Zimmer shared that Villeneuve never showed him the script for the films. The director wanted the score to come out of the conversations he had with Zimmer about Frank Herbert’s classic novel. Christopher Nolan is one of the definitive filmmakers of this generation. The Oscar-winning director recently made the biopic Oppenheimer, which won big at the Academy Awards this year. The director is known for his blockbuster films, which are as cerebral as they are thrilling and have garnered a loyal worldwide fanbase.
Nolan has also been a vocal supporter of other films. While he has professed his love for Stanley Kubrick, he has also appreciated films that are not considered high art such as the Fast and the Furious franchise. However, one film that reportedly blew his mind was Emma Stone’s 2016 musical La La Land, for which she won her first Academy Award.

Idris Elba is no stranger to playing darker roles, but sometimes the actor worries about just what a screenwriter was thinking when penning certain villains.
Elba told the Wall Street Journal that he finds playing “bad guy” characters to be a form of “therapy,” to some extent. Though it is the writers of such antagonists who perhaps need the real therapy. Or maybe just “a hug.”
“These people get to say things that we only think in the deepest, darkest recesses of our brains,” Elba said of certain roles. “They say horrible things and scream horrible things and get to be completely socially unacceptable. As an actor, that’s sometimes a gift, sometimes a bit of therapy. These characters tend to be well-written.”
He added, “When you see a really interesting bad guy, you’re going to think about the actor, but think about the writer. It’s the writer who’s dark.

As the Internet is now learning, Glen Powell had a tiny role in 2012’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ playing a trader at the Gotham Stock exchange who ends up a victim of Bane’s (Tom Hardy) wrath. What fans of the film might not know is that Hardy actually slammed Powell’s head into the keyboard on the final take.
Speaking with IMDb, Powell recalled how things went sideways. “He’s supposed to give me a little bit of a tap on the back of the head. So, we did it a few times. We all nail it. It was great. And then this last time … he just slammed my head on the keyboard. And I remember just, like, getting kind of dazed.”
But Powell chalked it up to both actors being immersed in their roles. “I think we all just got kind of caught up in it,” he said.
According to Powell, cinematographer Wally Pfister then joked that he forgot to roll camera, prompting director Christopher Nolan to ask, “You think you can do it again just like that?”
Powell’s response? “Absolutely!”
Nolan then let him off the hook, admitting, “We’re kidding. Go see a medic.”
To celebrate the premiere of Netfix’s ‘Hit Man,’ Powell sat down with IMDb to throw the Ultimate Watch Party by choosing snacks and essentials for screening the film at home.

In addition to his Bane encounter, he talked how he and Sydney Sweeney brought realism to their romantic comedy ‘Anyone But You,’ and shared what it’s like collaborating with frequent collaborator director Richard Linklater.

However, with the post-9/11 cultural climate heightening anxieties and desensitization to violence due to real-world events, another genre emerged, tapping into the darker side of human nature. First coined by David Edelstein in a 2006 article in New York magazine, “torture porn” took the roots of exploitation and splatter films of the 70s and 80s and reintroduced the mainstream audiences to a new level of explicit brutality. Films like Saw, Hostel, The Devil’s Rejects, and the New Extremity of French Horror were raw and unapologetic looks at human depravity. It was everywhere. I mean, there was a time when you couldn’t go more than a year without having a Saw film.

Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy has been regarded as one of the best adaptations of the character to date. Fans adore all of the decisions taken, even if some changes deviate from the original story, and the filmmaker’s individual style perfectly shines through the three films.
Although he has been credited for the creative decisions taken in the series, several people helped contribute to making a series as successful as this.
Christian Bale as the Dark Knight I Warner Bros. Pictures
While there are a lot of iconic scenes throughout the series, the ending naturally stands out. It was almost unexpected for many fans, considering how optimistic it was for the character. It would seem that the idea of the positive ending did not come from Nolan but from the mind of another respected figure in the world of DC.

Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man will go down in history as one of the greatest superhero performances of all time. His character’s journey from selfish playboy to selfless hero was truly inspiring, and his ultimate sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame will forever be remembered as a key moment in the MCU.
Of course, Avengers: Infinity War, in which most of the franchise’s heroes came together to try and stop Thanos’ plan to wipe out half of the universe’s population, represented the conclusion of MCU’s decade-long projects. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016), the heroes of the MCU were divided into two factions for Avengers: Infinity War’s ending. Nevertheless, in the end, neither group was able to prevent Thanos’ conquest.

Within the ever-growing universe of our living room screens, in a galaxy not too far away, a question as old as the celebrated Star Wars seems to be taking place: Are the industry titans of narrative—Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars—dipping into the ‘Sarlacc’ hole of overexposure to content on Disney+?
Well, it’s a question on the minds of many fans who have witnessed these once groundbreaking franchises seemingly dilute their magic with a relentless release schedule & storylines that have crumbled under the weight of corporate strategy.
Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens | Lucasfilm Ltd.
Yes, despite the aura of nostalgia and charm that these brands exude, Disney+’s strategy of a 45-day theatrical release window seems to whisper a siren’s song to theatergoers, urging them to stay home and wait for streaming—a trend contributing to the silent waning of the theater tradition.
