Somner died Wednesday of anaplastic thyroid cancer, a family spokesperson announced.

Born in the U.K., Somner got his start assisting on films such as “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” before moving into assistant directing. “Gladiator II” (Paramount) is expected to gross over $60 million when it open this week in the U.S./Canada. If so, that will be a strong start for Ridley Scott’s 29th feature in his 45-year career.

With a budget reported to be somewhere around $250 million-$300 million, it will need all of that and more. While this may be his fourth film to cost over over $200 million (adjusting to current dollar value), “Gladiator II” appears to be the highest spend of Scott’s career.

It’s also the record expense for a director over 80. Paramount’s decision to entrust Scott clearly speaks to his past performances, particularly internationally.

We surveyed all 28 previous Scott features, calculating their grosses and budgets at 2024 values. And while a $60 million “Gladiator II” opening would be a record on paper, that only works if you don’t adjust his track record to current dollars and ticket prices.

This was intense training, in which Moore was only called be her character's name, and not her real name. The training team did "sneaky things to really bring the reality of what the experience was like.

Demi Moore has joined the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming Paramount+ series “Landman,” Variety has learned.

Moore joins previously announced series lead Billy Bob Thornton in the series, along with cast members Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, and Paulina Chávez.

The series is based on the podcast “Boomtown.” The official description for the series states it is “set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas” and the world of oil rigs. It is further described as “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”

Moore will appear in the series regular role of Cami, described as “wife to one of the most powerful oil men in Texas and a friend of Tommy Norris (Thornton).”
