If the Oscars were a high school prom, think of the Academy as the strict principal—one bad move and you’re out. But instead of a tardy slip, it’s a lifetime ban, and instead of a bad dress, it’s a slap across the face or a scandalous crime. While the Oscars may glitter with glamour and red carpet shine, underneath the sequins, there’s a no-nonsense code of conduct that even Hollywood’s brightest stars must follow.
The Oscars roll around every year, but there’s a dark cloud hanging over the event—the infamous ‘No Entry’ list of celebs who’ve crossed the line and earned themselves a one-way ticket out of the Academy.

Matchstick Men is an unusual addition to Ridley Scott’s celebrated filmography. While primarily known for his lavish, large-scale blockbusters, Scott’s been known to pivot to other genres when least expected. In the early 2000s, he was amid an incredible career comeback. First bursting onto the scene with the one-two punch of Alien and Blade Runner, Scott had suffered a long run of flops following his 1991 blockbuster Thelma & Louise. Movies like 1492: Conquest of Paradise, White Squall and G.I. Jane lost a lot of money, but when he made Gladiator in 2000, he was back – big time. He followed that movie up with two major blockbusters, Hannibal and Black Hawk Down, but then, in 2003, he opted to make a small-scale comedy-drama called Matchstick Men, which paired him with Nicolas Cage.
In it, Cage plays a small-time con man named Roy Waller, who suffers from Tourette syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Three years after slapping Chris Rock during the Oscars, Will Smith returned to an awards show to participate in a tribute to Quincy Jones during Sunday’s Grammys.
Smith, who won Best Actor at the 2022 Oscars after slapping Rock across the face during the live broadcast, introduced Herbie Hancock and Cynthia Erivo at the start of the Jones tribute. He later returned to the stage to relay an anecdote about Jones, the executive producer of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the television series that helped launch Smith’s acting career. As Smith recalled, he struggled to work through a scene when Jones summoned him to the craft services table.
“He got his hands on his hips, and he’s at the snack table, and he’s looking at the snacks. And I was like, ‘What’s up?’ Q said, ‘So this is the food that you think the people on your set should eat?...

With Demi Moore getting a new dose of fame, it’s time for her role in one of Disney’s more underappreciated movies to get some respect!
If there’s one thing Hollywood loves, it’s a comeback story. 2022 was a notable example as Brendan Fraser, the one-time box office star of the late 1990s, had been quiet for a long time due to personal issues. Fraser made a big splash with his transformative role in the drama The Whale.
That same year featured the remarkable tale of Ke Huy Quan, a former child star of the 1980s who dropped out of the business because he couldn’t find good roles. He landed one in the wild action drama Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won seven Oscars, including Best Picture.
Thus, on Oscar Night 2023, Fraser and Quan were sharing photos with their respective Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards.

Demi Moore’s Golden Globe-winning horror movie continues dominating streaming charts, a whopping twelve weeks after release. 2025 may be Moore’s year to capture Hollywood’s biggest prize, as there is real Oscar buzz around her and her big 2024 movie. The Academy indeed has yet to bestow even a nomination upon the one-time Brat Packer, despite her occasional award-courting performances in movies like A Few Good Men, The Scarlet Letter and G.I. Jane. The Golden Globes, on the other hand, have been kinder to Moore, giving her a pair of film acting nominations, though spaced 33 years apart.
The first of those two widely-spaced Golden Globe nominations came way back in 1991, when Moore was up for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy Or Musical for her performance in Ghost. Over three decades after receiving that first recognition from the Globes, Moore was stunningly back again in 2024, thanks to her most challenging, and buzziest,...

While most war movies take viewers into the heart of battle, it’s less common to get a glimpse into recruits' experiences training in boot camp before they enter conflict zones. This formative time in a soldier’s military life equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to fight on the front lines and, in some circumstances, can be just as traumatic as actual warfare. While some great post-war movies have explored veterans' experiences adapting to life after wartime, other fantastic films address their training in boot camp.
From historically accurate World War II movies to harrowing portrayals of lesser-known conflicts, boot camp has played a part in some of the greatest war movies ever made. Famed directors like Ridley Scott, Clint Eastwood, and even Stanley Kubrick have used boot camps as a platform to depict the horrors of war and the young soldiers who give their lives in the name of violence.

When Demi Moore took to the stage to accept her rightful Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for "The Substance," the 62-year-old announced that it was the first time she'd ever received an industry honor of this caliber despite having been working for over 45 years. "30 years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress," she said, "and at that time, I made that mean that this wasn't something that I was allowed to have." She continued, "I bought in, and I believed that, and that corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it."
She added, "Maybe I was complete, maybe I've done what I was supposed to do and as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script...

Demi Moore – the actress knows how to keep the world talking and be relevant even after about 45 years in the industry. Whether it’s shaving her head for G.I. Jane or being one-half of the ‘90s ultimate power couple with Bruce Willis, the actress has always made headlines and the present is no different. While Demi Moore is one of the finest actresses the entertainment industry has to offer, this is the first time she won a Golden Globe award. How did that happen?

For the first time in her 45-year career, Demi Moore won a major film or TV award, taking home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her work in “The Substance.” Despite roles in films like “Ghost,” “G.I. Jane,” and “Indecent Proposal,” the star had never won, despite two prior Globe nominations and one Primetime Emmy nod.
Finally that streak is over. And in an inspiring speech that was one of the highlights of the awards ceremony, Moore said that this win was validation that she’s no longer just a “popcorn actress” and deserves every minute of her laurels.

“I had hit that point of being a little bit — I don’t want to say defeated, because I wasn’t defeated, and I wasn’t even hopeless, but I was just kind of flat, neutral in a way,” Demi Moore says as she sits in her Beverly Hills home to record an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.

Demi Moore is sharing one of the main things she looks for before taking on any role or project.
The actress made a recent appearance on Hot Ones, where host Sean Evans asked her to expand on her previous comments about The Substance script potentially being “something extraordinary or could be an absolute disaster.”
“It really means that it was holding something that was worth the risk,” Moore said of her recent body horror film, which saw her play Elisabeth, opposite Margaret Qualley’s Sue.
The G.I. Jane actress continued, “And I felt that way also about Ghost because it had so many different genres mixed together that, truly, I thought, ‘This could either be amazing or a fucking disaster.’ Either way, it’s usually the kind of juice that says, ‘Step in. Take the risk. Roll the dice. Let’s see what happens.’”

Demi Moore has a tried-and-true approach when choosing her next film roles — and it might not be what you think.
The veteran actress appeared on a recent episode of Sean Evans’ popular Hot Ones video interview series, revealing that a certain degree of risk is crucial to the projects she takes on — including this year’s buzzy body horror flick The Substance and even her seminal hit Ghost.
“It really means that it was holding something that was worth the risk,” Moore said when asked by Evans what she meant when she previously commented that The Substance script may yield “something extraordinary or could be an absolute disaster.”
“And I felt that way also about Ghost because it had so many different genres mixed together that, truly, I thought, ‘This could either be amazing or a f—ing disaster.’ Either way, it’s usually the kind of juice that says,...

“Gladiator II” (Paramount) is expected to gross over $60 million when it open this week in the U.S./Canada. If so, that will be a strong start for Ridley Scott’s 29th feature in his 45-year career.
With a budget reported to be somewhere around $250 million-$300 million, it will need all of that and more. While this may be his fourth film to cost over over $200 million (adjusting to current dollar value), “Gladiator II” appears to be the highest spend of Scott’s career.
It’s also the record expense for a director over 80. Paramount’s decision to entrust Scott clearly speaks to his past performances, particularly internationally.
We surveyed all 28 previous Scott features, calculating their grosses and budgets at 2024 values. And while a $60 million “Gladiator II” opening would be a record on paper, that only works if you don’t adjust his track record to current dollars and ticket prices.

“At my signal, unleash hell.” For those of us that were alive back in the year 2000 and avid movie fans, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator was an event. While historical dramas aren’t especially rare nowadays, back then, they were relatively rare. Sure, there was the occasional Braveheart or Rob Roy, but they weren’t considered a bankable genre. Yet, that all changed when director Ridley Scott, whose career was at a low ebb following the failure of almost every movie he made in the 90s decided to revive the so-called “sword and sandal” genre with a gritty, lavish redux of the historical epic.
In the fifties and sixties, these types of movies were commonplace, although in movies like The Robe or Ben-Hur, they usually told biblical tales. That changed a little with Spartacus, El Cid, and The Fall of the Roman Empire, but before long the genre was considered a...

Demi Moore, whose performance in Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance” as been praised as Oscar-worthy, will receive a career tribute at the French Cinematheque in Paris on Nov. 5, ahead of the movie’s local release.
The day-long retrospective and tribute are being co-hosted by Mubi, the global arthouse distributor and streamer which has successfully released the bold and bloody movie in the U.S., the U.K., Latin America, German and most other international territories, as well as Metropolitan which handles the French theatrical release, and the French Cinematheque.
The feminist body-horror movie stars Moore as Elisabeth Sparkle, a recently fired daytime-tv who uses a black market drug that creates a younger version of herself, with dangerous side effects.
Underscoring Mubi’s big theatrical push, the movie already ranks as an indie hit, having grossed $53.6 million worldwide since its Sept. 20 release, including $14.5 million in North America. It’s Mubi’s biggest B.

The world premiere of Paramount Global’s “Watson” raised the curtain on this year’s Mipcom in Cannes. “Watson” follows the titular character after the death of Holmes as he resumes his medical career as the head of a clinic specialized in rare disorders. Viggo Mortensen is a three-time Oscar nominated performer who has been very picky with his projects, appearing only in a handful of movies in a 30-plus year career. But how many of his titles hold up as classics? Let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1958 in New York City, Mortensen made his big screen debut with a brief performance as an Amish farmer in “Witness” (1985). Supporting roles in “Carlito’s Way” (1993), “Crimson Tide” (1995), “G.I. Jane” (1997) and many others quickly followed. He achieved stardom in middle age playing the warrior Aragorn in Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, released in 2001, 2002 and 2003. His first Oscar bid as Best Actor came shortly thereafter for David Cronenberg‘s thriller “Eastern Promises” (2007), followed by nominations for “Captain Fantastic” (2016) and the Best Picture-winning “Green Book” (2018).

Will Smith’s life has not been the same since the infamous slap heard around the world. The actor had what was supposed to be the greatest moment in his career turn into a controversy that has not gotten off his back since then. The King Richard star slapped Chris Rock on the Oscars stage in 2022 and went on to win Best Actor on the same night.
Smith’s slap was preceded by Rock making a joke about the former’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia. As a funny retaliation of sorts for going after a comedian, stand-up comic Andrew Schulz put out a brutal roast, making so many jokes about Smith and Pinkett Smith that the actor would have wished he moved on from Chris Rock’s ‘GI Jane’ joke.

Jason Beghe has tried his hands at actions and comedies, science fiction and mysteries, and many more genres, but his true brilliance lies in working for the crime genre. An absolute legend of a cop, he has done an excellent job of bringing one of the most intimidating police inspectors to life in the all-time hit television series Chicago P.D.: Hank Voight.

Demi Moore defends her movie G.I. Jane. Directed by Alien's Ridley Scott, G.I. Jane is a 1997 movie that sees Moore playing a United States Navy topographical analyst who joins the US Special Navy Warfare group and faces issues with building her reputation in a career that is dominated by men. In addition to Moore, G.I. Jane features a leading cast including Viggo Mortensen, Anne Bancroft, Jason Beghe, Daniel von Bargen, John Michael Higgins, Kevin Gage, and David Warshofksy.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Moore speaks up to defend G.I. Jane. According to the actor, she feels like G.I. Jane was "killed months before anybody had ever even seen it." Demi Moore is regarded as a pioneer for equal pay for the actresses in the industry. She became the first woman to be paid the highest salary for her role in Striptease, but this came with a huge con. After completing her unconventional role the actress was condemned and shamed for her choice.
Moore mentioned in several interviews that she dealt with a great deal of hate after that movie. Though she became the first actress to break through the invisible pay gap, her efforts were in vain. The media and people at that time felt betrayed and were harsh on the actress for her supposed indecent role.

“On paper, this could have been a disaster,” Demi Moore said in a recent interview with The Independent. She was speaking, of course, of her highly acclaimed performance in Coralie Fargeat‘s recently released body horror satire “The Substance.” The film, which won the Best Screenplay award at Cannes and the People’s Choice Midnight Madness award at TIFF, follows Moore’s character, a popular aerobics show host named Elisabeth Sparkle, as she starts using a black market drug to make herself appear younger. Brilliantly skewering the beauty industrial complex, the film and Moore’s performance have been widely lauded, garnering her serious Oscar buzz. For Moore, though, the real success of taking part in a project like this was finding comfort in her own skin, a result she says comes from the bond formed between her and the actress playing her younger self, Margaret Qualley.

Demi Moore has changed her body a lot over her career, but there was one film that got her to realize that it might not be the most healthy thing to do. There have been a lot of stories out of Hollywood where actors go through a lot of pain to physically transform their bodies.

Demi Moore, speaking with The New York Times, talked about how the film drained her, and how the actress decided to surrender then and there. G.I. Jane was a film that Moore was the most proud of, as the actress revealed. However, the film was a flop, earning a meager 48.2 million against its 50 million budget.

Demi Moore reflects on her intense training for G. I. Jane. Moore played the U.S. military film in the 1997 film G.I. Jane, which was directed by Ridley Scott. In addition to Moore, G.I. Jane featured a leading cast including Viggo Mortensen, Anne Bancroft, Jason Beghe, Daniel von Bargen, John Michael Higgins, Kevin Gage, and David Warshofsky. G.I. Jane remains one of the most notable roles in Moore's career to date.
In an interview with Variety, Moore discusses the intense training that went into her time as G.I. Jane.
According to the former G.I. Jane actor, she was involved in a "two-week modified Seal training" prior to acting in her role in G.I. Jane. This was intense training, in which Moore was only called be her character's name, and not her real name. The training team did "sneaky things to really bring the reality of what the experience was like.

Demi Moore is getting her due thanks to Metrograph.
The “Substance” actress and Hollywood icon is being honored by Metrograph with a five-film series of Moore’s most beloved features, as curated by the theater. Titled “We Want Moore,” the mini festival begins September 13.
“The rapturous reception of Demi Moore’s performance in Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival seems to have reminded many people that the New Mexico-born actress is a bona fide movie star — not just in terms of box office receipts and magazine cover shoots, but in her seemingly effortless ability to command the screen every time she walks into frame,” the Metrograph press statement reads. “In ‘We Want Moore,’ we’ve brought together some other timely reminders.”
Selected films screening in 35mm include Moore’s iconic turns in “Ghost,” “Indecent Proposal,” and “Striptease,” which Moore recently told Variety was one of her most under-appreciated performances.

“I’m warning you: She loves to dominate a teddy bear,” Demi Moore says as her teacup Chihuahua, Pilaf, toddles into the room. Moore, perched on a kitchen stool in her Los Angeles home, watches her dog with a sly smile. “You’re going to see some humping.”
Pilaf has had a busy year — she was featured in Vogue, and seen in the front rows of Paris Fashion Week — so bringing her to the Cannes Film Festival in May was a risk: Would the pint-size bundle of cuteness upstage her owner at the premiere of her blood-drenched horror film “The Substance”? Perhaps Moore knew the role was more beastly than her little pet could ever be.
“I didn’t know how the movie was going to go,” Moore admits as Pilaf, now in the family room, ravages her stuffed animal in a patch of sunlight. “It’s so out of the box.

1997’s G.I. Jane will forever be tied to one of the most infamous moments in Academy Awards history, when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock for taking a dig at Jada Pinkett Smith’s tight cut, using the Demi Moore movie part of the punchline. But it’s important to remember just what impact that movie had upon release. Outside of Sigourney Weaver, it was practically unheard of for a mainstream actress – especially one considered one of the most beautiful in Hollywood – to take the risk to shave her head for a role. But Moore saw the chance to play this character and ran with it with a tenacity that for too long has been overlooked.
Sitting down with Michelle Yeoh for Interview, Demi Moore remembered collaborating with her director and pushing herself in a way she never had before. “I loved working with Ridley on G.I. Jane. Probably one of my favorite experiences…...

Demi Moore is reflecting on her bikini seen ’round the world 20 years later.
The actress starred in 2003 sequel film “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” and recalled the discussion surrounding her so-called age-defying appearance at the time.
“What’s interesting is I felt [criticism] more when I hit my 40s. I had done ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ and there was a lot of conversation around this scene in a bikini, and it was all very heightened, a lot of talk about how I looked,” Moore told Interview magazine while in discussion with Michelle Yeoh. “And then I found that there didn’t seem to be a place for me. I didn’t feel like I didn’t belong. It’s more like I felt that feeling of, I’m not 20, I’m not 30, but I wasn’t yet what they perceived as a mother.”

Gladiator II promises the biggest action sequence of Ridley Scott's career in its opening scene. Scott's razor-sharp command of cinematic action is seen in movies like Blade Runner and Black Hawk Down, with intense battle scenes. The climactic duels in Scott's films, like in Black Rain and The Last Duel, showcase tense, realistic violence and personal conflicts.
Ridley Scott is promising the biggest action sequence of his entire career in Gladiator II, which is saying a lot because hes directed some great ones in his 47 years as a legendary filmmaker. In a recent interview with Empire, Scott claimed that the Gladiator sequel opens with the biggest action sequence Ive ever done. That means itll be bigger than any of the gladiatorial combat sequences seen in the original Gladiator film, bigger than any of the battle scenes in Napoleon or The Last Duel, and bigger than Ellen Ripleys showdown with the xenomorph in Alien.

Ethan Hawke reveals what Denzel Washington said to him the night Hawke lost his ‘Training Day’ Oscar

The year was 2002 and Ethan Hawke was up for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his work in “Training Day.” When Marcia Gay Harden read Jim Broadbent’s name, winning for “Iris,” Hawke’s co-star Denzel Washington whispered something in his ear.
It wasn’t “boom!” As Hawke revealed in a recent interview, Washington – who had already won an Oscar for “Glory” and would win a second that very night – said, “It’s better that you didn’t win. Losing was better.”
Hawke, who would go on to get three more Oscar nominations for acting (“Boyhood”) as well as screenwriting, expanded what Washington meant. “You don’t want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award’s status,” he said. “That’s the way he thinks. That’s what I’m talking about playing with Babe Ruth. The Academy Award has more power, because Denzel has a couple.

Demi Moore has joined the cast of Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming Paramount+ series “Landman,” Variety has learned.
Moore joins previously announced series lead Billy Bob Thornton in the series, along with cast members Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, and Paulina Chávez.
The series is based on the podcast “Boomtown.” The official description for the series states it is “set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas” and the world of oil rigs. It is further described as “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”
Moore will appear in the series regular role of Cami, described as “wife to one of the most powerful oil men in Texas and a friend of Tommy Norris (Thornton).”
