Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, The War of The Rohirrim movie is turning heads with its stellar visuals and enchanting storyline. It breathes life into J.R. R. Tolkien’s world of fantasy through its exceptional and impeccable animation.
But most of all, the film is a reinvention of storytelling and the common tropes in the adventure and fantasy genre. Like most great artists, Kamiyama took inspiration from a famed Director who supposedly had a beef with Miyazaki.

In an interview, he revealed two of his greatest inspirations for the upcoming movie. From incorporating color-coded lights to drums, the film is theatrical in every possible sense. It redefines animation and storytelling in more ways than one.
But his comment on the famed filmmaker recenters to the latter’s controversy regarding Miyazaki. It also ties well with the Ghibli Director’s famous feuds and controversies.

Despite several attempts to recapture it across multiple media, it’s clear that Peter Jackson’s original Lord of the Rings trilogy was lightning in a bottle. Not that it’s stopping the people who greenlight big-budget projects from trying, and Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim is the best-case scenario for that effort: A visually striking, self-contained adventure bringing a new perspective to one of the linchpin tales contained in the Appendices to J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings novels, combining cutting-edge Japanese animation with the audiovisual language established by Jackson’s original trilogy of films.
The film is ostensibly about Helm Hammerhand, one of the great horse-master kings of Rohan, and the tribal feud against his Wildling rivals that eventually costs him his life. That feud started a war that created a legend, and set the stage for one of the pivotal skirmishes in the War of the Ring,...

The vampire subgenre in horror is greatly beloved and has a long history, meaning it's inevitable that general audiences have missed a few fun films throughout the years. While vampire movies aren't as popular anymore, releasing back-to-back as seen in previous years, the 2000s was an especially popular decade for bloodsucking creatures.
Great vampire films had already been around, but following the success of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show starting in 1997, films centered around the fanged species were everywhere. The 2000s is home to underrated vampire films, some more accomplished than others, that don't get as much love as the decade's heavy hitters. Well-versed vampire fans are likely to know films like Daybreakers and Shadow of the Vampire, but casual moviegoers often miss these films.

While everyone is talking about the next live-action Lord of the Rings film, the Hunt for Gollum, which will include Peter Jackson making a comeback to the franchise, WB Animation has been quietly working on its previously announced Lord of the Rings animated picture.
First revealed in June 2021 during 20th anniversary celebrations of the film franchise, WB shared the first details on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Described as an anime movie, the project was subsequently confirmed to be a collaboration between WB Animation and Tokyo-based Solo Entertainment.
Earlier this week, WB Animation confirmed that The War of the Rohirrim would be showcased at next month's Annecy Film Festival and also released three hi-res versions of previously released conceptual images from the film. Specifically, the first footage from the film will be showcased (and hopefully) uploaded near the time of the panel.

Vampires are one of the most popular horror and paranormal anime creatures. They drink blood to sustain their long lives and sleep in coffins to hide away from the sun. Most of the time more vampires are made by a blood exchange. But there are some anime worlds where vampires are "alive" enough to have children with humans.
Vampires are very powerful creatures, but sunlight really nerfs their abilities. Half-vampires, otherwise called dhampirs, tend to be a bit different. Dhampirs can better blend in with humans, can control their bloodlust better, and are more resistant to sunlight. They have the best of both worlds: the strength and immortality of their vampire parent, and the ability to live in the sun with other humans (to a certain extent) like their moral parent can.

Famous artists are often highly associated with a single title or franchise. Usually, the one they are associated with is their most successful project or their original breakout hit. However, this means that a lot of their other, equally good work, can get overlooked, as it's rare for an artist to do just one thing for their entire career.
And this is especially true in anime, where many of the medium's most famous creators have worked on many amazing shows and movies that, while fantastic in their own right, don't get the attention they deserve because they're overshadowed by the more famous works made by the creator.

Watching the rise and fall of different anime genres and sub-genres is always fascinating. Sometimes a specific genre will become the center of attention for several seasons, with every major studio trying to jump on the bandwagon. However, even within one genre's repeated rises and falls, there are noticeable differences. Different periods see creators focus on distinct elements or combine the genre with specific tones, atmospheres and storytelling styles.
Nowhere is this better seen than with the early 2000s vampire boom. During this era, vampires were the industry's most popular characters, with loads of fanged terrors arriving on anime fans' screens. This era is defined by how dark it is. Most vampire shows from the period focused on the horrific side of vampire lore, with the vampires often being violent anti-heroes rather than the amusing slice-of-life characters that would come after them. Adrian Grünberg's 2019 film "Rambo: Last Blood" brings John Rambo's story to a very weird, very bad end. "Last Blood," the fifth film in the Rambo saga, ends with a bloodbath straight out of a "Saw" movie, wherein the film's eponymous soldier (Sylvester Stallone) lures an army of Mexican criminals into the catacombs under his home where he cuts off their feet, decapitates them, and removes their still-beating hearts with his bare hands. His extreme acts of violence are resented as morally permissible, however, as the Mexican characters are both faceless and uniformly evil drug dealers and human traffickers.

Michael Bilandic’s cinema has, over the course of four very small-scale features, staked out a distinct corner in indie film. Focusing on niche interests—be it the fledgling trance scene of 2009 or YouTube horrorcore rappers—the New York-based director’s films feel of the moment but never trend-chasing or too cool for the room. Simply put: a truly personal corpus.
His distinct style and interests are perfectly encapsulated in his newest work, Project Space 13, about Nate (Keith Poulson), a performance artist who sees his latest stunt involving bug-eating and other narcissistic, attention-grabbing shenanigans halted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Nate still has somewhat of an audience, though, as he’s protected by two assigned security guards at the performance space, one a young loose cannon (Hunter Zimny) and the other an older Covid-denier (Theodore Bouloukos). While outside riots escalate New York City into an apocalyptic state, the three men discuss their variety of differences.

We’ll be honest: The trailer for Clint Eastwood’s new film, Cry Macho, had us guessing for a while. While it will almost certainly never happen, Quentin Tarantino has expressed some interest in a First Blood remake. Yes, Tarantino has a pitch for the Rambo franchise and it would involve making a much more faithful adaptation to the original novel that birthed the Sylvester Stallone franchise. Tarantino even has actors in mind, with Adam Driver taking over as John Rambo and Kurt Russell on board as Sheriff Teasle.

Sylvester Stallone donned the headband of John Rambo five times over the course of 37 years as the franchise evolved from the surprisingly dark and complex action-orientated thrills of First Blood to the overblown shoot em’ up histrionics of the following two sequels, before going somewhat back to basics for the final installments, which were smaller in scale but just as gratuitously violent as their predecessors.
Last year’s fifth outing was called Last Blood for a reason, with the 74 year-old leading man and action icon seemingly retiring his other career-defining character for good. In fact, Stallone recently admitted that the only way the series could continue would be as a prequel developed exclusively for a streaming service, or the Vietnam veteran wouldn’t return at all.

Horror and animation don’t exactly go hand in hand. I’m not exactly sure why, maybe it is because when people think of animated movies their minds always think of children’s or family movies. Even when you ink of animated horror, my mind goes to A Nightmare Before Christmas, Paranorman, Monster House or Coraline. All very entertaining movies but still aimed at children. But in recent years there have been a few more ‘adult’ horror animations with Resident Evil: Degeneration and Seoul Station, while anime has always, on a smaller scale, been pushing horror with films like Vampire Hunter D and Blood: The Last Vampire. Sylvester Stallone has left such an indelible impression on modern cinema that he has three statues dedicated to his most famous characters. There’s the Rocky monument outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, while two recreations of Rambo stand proud in the Canadian town of Hope where the majority of First Blood was shot, which just goes to show the impact that the 74 year-old’s most iconic roles have had on the world.

Sylvester Stallone has shed some light on the future of his action icon, Rambo. In responding to a question from a fan on social media, who asked the star whether we'd ever be getting another installment in the franchise, Stallone surprisingly gave a pretty definitive answer.
"Only as a streaming prequel or not at all."
Well, it sounds like Sylvester Stallone has no intention of bringing Rambo back to theaters, instead seeing the growing world of streaming as the legendary veteran's haven. The actor has also clearly had enough of an aged version of the character and would prefer to look backwards with a prequel.

Rambo: Last Blood appeared to be a definitive film for its titular character. Its title deliberately harked back to the original, while playing into an extensive marketing campaign that this would be the last ever Rambo. That would preclude the chance of a Rambo 6 ever getting made. But going by Sylvester Stallone’s latest comments, that may not be the case after all.
The actor has teased that Rambo “could be back” with the below comment posted on Instagram, which was made to hype up the newly released “Real Journey” cut of Last Blood on Amazon Prime:

Action icon Sylvester Stallone brought Rambo back to the big screen last year with the seemingly decisively titled Rambo: Last Blood. While many had assumed (thanks in part to Stallone flat out saying it would the case) that Rambo: Last Blood would live up to its title and be the final outing for the tortured veteran, Stallone has now taken to social media to tease that this might not be the case after all. We could see John Rambo return in Rambo 6 is we're lucky.
The Extended Cut of Rambo: Last Blood, which was released on Amazon Prime Video back in May, has now finally hit Apple TV earlier this week. In promoting the release, Stallone made the surprise announcement that, despite the marketing for Last Blood declaring it the final Rambo adventure, audiences may not have seen the last of John Rambo.

When Rambo: Last Blood had its theatrical run back in the fall, two different versions of the film were made available by Lionsgate. In North America and the UK, the released cut ran at 89 minutes. Last Blood not only ran 12 minutes longer in international territories though, but contained an alternate opening, too.
Quite why it was released like that is unclear, but the upshot was a large number of people missing out on the additional footage – an omission that audiences in the Us will now be able to correct. And that’s because the extended, international cut of the movie is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. Hooray? I’ll let you place the requisite emotional modifier.

Why not take a look at the lighter side of the film industry for a moment, right? The 40th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards were just held, albeit without an audience, culminating in Cats pulling a sweep, including of course the coveted (?) prize of Worst Picture. A total of six wins went its way, with Rambo: Last Blood being the only other title to grab more than one prize, as it was given two categories to claim as its own. As soon as the movie got savaged like it did, we all knew Cats was winning this prize, so it was really just academic at this point. Still, if you want a laugh, we have the winners/losers below for you to take a gander at… Here now are the Razzie results: 40th Annual Golden Raspberry (Razzie®) Award “Winners” Worst Picture Cats Worst Actor John Travolta / The Fanatic & Trading Paint Worst...

After years spent indulging in franchise films like Rambo and Rocky, Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone is entering uncharted waters for his next film, Samaritan.
It’s a totally original idea from the mind of Bragi F. Schut, the screenwriter behind Escape Room (another Sly joint), and centers on a “young boy who is out to discover if a mythic superhero, who vanished 20 years earlier following a tragic event, is still alive.” It is, without question, a refreshing change of pace for Stallone, particularly after Last Blood finished the Rambo saga not with a bang, but a whimper.
Also starring Martin Starr, Moises Arias, Dascha Polanco and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones), Samaritan was once headed for a release in November of 2020, but Stallone and his team needed more time to dot the Is and cross the Ts, and so the MGM thriller was pushed back by three whole weeks.

Show business sure is fickle. Four years ago Sylvester Stallone won the Redeemer Award from the Razzies for his Oscar-nominated performance in “Creed,” but now he’s back on their hit list, nominated for Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay for “Rambo: Last Blood.” He could extend an unfortunate record if he wins again.
To date, Stallone has won Worst Actor four times, more than anyone else: “Rhinestone” (1984); “Rambo: First Blood Part II” and “Rocky IV” (1985); “Rambo III” (1988); and “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” (1992). And that doesn’t even count his “victories” for Worst Actor of the 1980s and Worst Actor of the 20th Century. He also has the most Worst Actor nominations of all time (15) — basically he’s the Meryl Streep of the Razzies.

Now that the Oscars are all over and done with, and the best of the best have now been honored, it is time to turn to the awards ceremony for the worst of the worst: The Razzies. Well, the nominations are now in and the likes of Cats, Rambo: Last Blood and A Medea Family Funeral take the lead for the 2020 Golden Raspberry Awards.
The much-maligned cinematic adaptation of the musical Cats has garnered a total of nine Razzie nominations, securing a nod in every major category apart from Worst Actor and Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel. Star Rebel Wilson though has been nominated for both Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress for her work in The Hustle and Cats, respectively. Hopefully, she has a sense of humor about it.
Rambo: Last Blood is right behind Cats with a total of eight nominations, which continues the long-running tradition of The Razzies dishonoring Sylvester Stallone.

The Razzie nominations are out and Cats, A Madea Family Funeral, and Rambo: Last Blood cleaned up.
The Golden Raspberry Foundation announced its picks for 2019’s worst achievements in film, a day before the Academy Awards honor the industry’s best.
Cats, which the Razzie folks described as a “widely derided feline flop,” picked up eight nods. A Madea Family Funeral and Rambo: Last Blood also received eight nominations. All three films landed in the worst picture category.
Tyler Perry, who wrote, produced, directed and played four roles in A Madea Family Funeral, received multiple nods — worst screenplay, worst actress, worst screen combo, and two worst supporting actor nominations.
The Razzie Award winners are usually announced the day before the Oscars. But according to the Golden Raspberry Foundation, the schedule was changed this year due to the Oscar ceremony being moved up. The Razzie Awards date will be announced later.

Vertical Entertainment has released the first trailer from their upcoming action-thriller Lady Bloodfight, which is set for a theatrical release on May 5. The studio has also provided us with the first poster that takes us closer into the action, showcasing the characters who square off against each other in a brutal fighting tournament known as The Kumite. While this tournament bears the same name as the tournament portrayed in the 1988 classic Bloodsport, this upcoming action-thriller showcases an all-female tournament.
Lady Bloodfight centers on Jane (Amy Johnston), a beautiful but troubled American girl backpacking her way through Hong Kong. When she successfully fends off three thugs trying to rob her, she draws the attention of Shu (Muriel Hofmann), a Wudang champion, who is impressed by her raw street fighting abilities. Shu recruits Jane and trains her to fight in the vicious, all-female, underground martial arts tournament known as "The Kumite" in...

This week annoyed by a loudmouth blogger of some repute, who declared anime for paedophiles and insulted more or less the whole of Japanese culture, I decided to watch Netflix original anime Knights of Sidonia. His comments have widely been circulated and condemned by many people and he’s just made himself look a fool, and all this just because Gus Van Sant might be directing a Death Note movie. I recognise that anime is not for everyone but still, by dismissing all of it you are missing out on an awful lot of classic work and influential stuff.
Knights of Sidonia has been billed as a Netflix original but it’s quite hard to imagine that they would have been involved in the production of something like this, it’s pretty far out there even for anime and its more likely that Netflix have done what they did with...

As soon as the directing team Radio Silence met Allison Miller, they knew she was perfect for the role of sweet newlywed Sam McCall in their point of view horror flick, Devil’s Due. The 28-year-old, who was born in Rome, Italy, but raised in Kentucky and Florida, had paid her dues as a guest on General Hospital, CSI: NY, Desperate Housewives and Boston Legal and had close calls co-starring in promising new shows. In the Steven Spielberg-produced Terra Nova she starred as Skye Tate, but the show only lasted one season. Similarly, cast opposite Matthew Perry in the NBC sit-com Go On and Ian McShane in the NBC drama Kings held promise, but both shows were cancelled before season two.
On the big screen she starred as Zac Efron’s girlfriend in 17 Again and as Alice McKee in the live action version of Blood: The Last Vampire. And...

How many of you out there ever watched Roman Polanski.s Rosemary.s Baby and thought to yourselves, "Say, this movie is pretty good and all, but what it really needs is worse performances and a first-person perspective on everything that.s happening.." If so, there.s a special place in hell with your name on it, and part of that hell has come to Earth in the form of Devil.s Due, the devilish debut feature from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (V/H/S), which spawned its second trailer, seen above. I.m pretty sure it.s a horror movie, but it could possibly be part of an advertising campaign for a Christian abstinence group. “Arahan” and “Crying Fist” director Seung-wan Ryoo hops into the deadly spy game with the new South Korean actioner “The Berlin File”, starring some of South Korea’s powerhouse actors. The action doesn’t look too bad, either. Check out a brief 30-second teaser trailer for the film, which is set on location in Berlin, Germany, and from the looks of it, is going to be one intense thrill ride. The plot goes something like this: Exposed by their government, a North Korean spy and his wife attempt to escape pursuing Korean agents as they flee Berlin. The film stars Gianna Jun (of “Blood: The Last Vampire” fame, though she’s still much more famous worldwide for the romcom hit “My Sassy Girl”), Jung-woo Ha, Seung-beom Ryu, and Han Suk Kyu (no stranger to spy movies himself with hits like “Shiri” and “Double Agent” under his belt). Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova has been experiencing a seemingly uneven pace in the show’s development thus far. The sci-fi, time-traveling series was originally to be featured at Comic-Con, but that presentation was canceled and the show launch date was delayed to the fall of 2011 in order to give it an “unique launch to distinguish that the show is unlike any other.” The show also lost David Fury from the producer team, but Brannon Braga held his position as showrunner.
What’s the news for the series now? The show has recently secured actors for a few key roles to complete its ensemble cast and now has had to suffer lay-offs in the writing staff. 20th Century Fox Television was forced to lay off most of the writing staff, including Chris Brancato (X-Files), to cut expenses back due to the change in scheduling of the show’s launch.
