  • I really don't understand why this one got only 6.9 rating. This was one of the main reason why i was unaware of this spectacular romantic show. This is one fine romantic series with almost everything which has to be in a romantic anime. All the characters are brilliant and the screenplay makes the simple story so manageable. The only weak point of the show is things going to happen in front of you without knowing the situation which is also the main point of the series. while watching the show, even you won't got the feelings of female lead. You will be confused as same as the main protagonist. But in spite of this you will enjoy the situation and condition of the characters. According to me , it is one of the best romantic anime of all time . It don't deserve 6.9.

    I rate this 8.5

Review: Suzuka Had a greater potential than its actual success, but none the less It was rather impressive in its own way.

Its introduction of athletics was an original and well incorporated concept which gained it a positive note in my books but what really won me over and influenced my final rating was though the story began with a typical plot line and appeared to be very predictable, it wasn't. There were three or four dramatic turn of events I did not expect and were very effective in getting some important and truly valuable themes across that can be applied in daily life, unlike the unrealistic scenarios many anime provide but I will not spoil what these good ones were in Suzuka.

On the other hand I have a lot of negatives to say about this show also. To put it bluntly it frustrated me, if you are currently in this kind of relationship or a part of one you may be able to tolerate it with nothing but smiles and reflections of, "oh my gosh I was a tool". But! If you have not been a part of one or you have already learnt from such a relationship then the plot can come across as repetitively cold and to an extent upsetting. I did not like the way the 'guy' played his cards but without him screwing up so much there would be no story. Another point worth mentioning is the end was an anti-climax in MY opinion, hopefully my saying that will prove me wrong through your eyes and make this show a little bit better for you but personally I felt the pain to pleasure ratio was way out of proportion.

    Story/events/plot: 9/10.

The realism of the events truly deserves some credit without which the story would border towards shi@.

    Art/Visuals: 6/10

Nothing great, but no dramatic faults in the art in my opinion. The characters look good but it's their natures which define them.

    Music: 9/10

The few moments with the piano in the background were just incredible. Guys who've seen it, you know what I mean. Episode "lips" (very nice)

    Dialogue: 8/10

I enjoyed listening to what the important yet peripheral characters had to say more than what the main female and male characters did. Oh, except one random occasion when Yamato finally snaps, that was cool, only because you yourself are already so agitated by 'her' mind games.

    Characters: 10/10

Despite my thorough and intense hatred for the female protagonist on two or three occasions, (I also say that under influence because I was routing for another girl), the characters are captured phenomenally. Also to twist the bitterness many people will experience towards Suzuka (female protagonist) into sympathy or some random form of affection is an incredible achievement itself. The peripheral characters are incredible, far, far better than average.

Personal response: A good anime, but a little frustrating for my liking when watching too much of it in one go. I loved the realism, an element absent in many anime I've come across. 3.5/5 stars for its uniqueness but had the potential of more.

All bias aside: It is relatively one of the 'better' anime for its individuality where a romantic story unfolds unexpectedly along with an appropriate reference to the strict disciplines of track and field and realistic depictions of effort necessary to achieve, succeed or 'win over' in life. 4/5 stars Recommended audience: All teens, if you have low self esteem than this will lend you some hope or utterly torture your heart leaving it demolished depending on your interpretation and if you can watch it till the end or not. Little kids, no forget it. Mature audiences may find it lacks a degree of sophistication in areas finding it slightly boring.

Final word: Teens go watch it; you will not be disappointed if you like emotional anime. I applaud the creators (on their side-story characters who were inspirational) yet I hope they learn from the few mistakes they made in the production of this series.  And leave the 'beating up' of the main character to someone other than the female protagonist, it's ineffective.

Suzuka Yamato Akitsuki is an ordinary high school who just happens to be a great sprinter; he isn't interested in joining the school athletics team though... not until he falls for Suzuka Asahina, the team's female high-jumper. Over the course of the series he tries to impress her but it seems everything he does just makes her seem dislike him more. It doesn't help that he reminds her of her former boyfriend who died before he came to the school. Yamato isn't confident enough to tell Suzuka how he feels and constantly says the wrong thing, unfortunately he never seems to realise that he is doing all the wrong things and constantly wonders what is wrong with everybody else. Even when he starts going out with another girl he ends up blowing it. As the series approaches its conclusion Yamato is preparing for a major athletics meet where he hopes to become the fastest sprinter in Japan, he is sure that such success will give him the courage to tell Suzuka how he feels.

Normally I watch anime in Japanese with subtitles but as the English dub was the only version available to watch on Funimation's YouTube Channel I was initially unsure about watching it; I'm glad I did though as the dub was actually rather good. The animation also looks pretty good even in the sports scenes which could easily look terrible if the animation wasn't good. The only problem is that the two main characters can be annoying all they seem to do is bicker yet the viewer can see that they actually like each other.

I deliberately typed most this up a couple of episodes short of the end so I wouldn't subconsciously give any hints about whether he ends up with Suzuka or the girl he dated mid-series as I don't know! If you are in a mood for a high-school romance you should give this a try, I enjoyed it despite its flaws and don't be put off by the bright blue hair Suzuka sports on the title page, in the series it is only a slight tint.
  • What I like about this show after watching it on the Funimation Channel,it was truly interesting and the best. I really wanted to get this series, and I did. When my cousin bought me this series in a box set for Christmas,it was like watching it on the Funimation Channel again. It was a terrific series, and inspiring. And of course it had an amazing storyline. But what this show really tells us is being number 1 is a tough task, and it takes lots of hard work to achieve it. And also,it doesn't matter if you win or lose,it's how you play the game and do your best. And I also believe that Yamato has learned these lessons, and will always do his best. But however, this series is awesome, and worth watching. And of course Todd Haberkorn (famous for xxxholic),playing the voice of Yamato was his best role ever. So if you want to see something good, then see this series, you will like it.
  • It's a very strange piece of work. On the one hand you're going', "This is, clearly, utter rubbish. EVERYONE's being stupid - even the show's plot is allowing itself to be driven by their stupidity", and on the other you look up at your clock ... AND HALF THE DAY HAS PASSED!

It doesn't amount to much - it's about this kid who likes some girl called Suzuka. there's a bunch o' "pull-n-tug" between them, with drama seeming to appear out of thin air (to aid them in their non-hooking up) and superfluous tangents for the story to go and waste time upon- It doesn't amount to much ... although it makes you think it's going to. One episode after the other, STUFF happens, developing to shake things up and you think all of it's building to something. It doesn't ... and the worst thing is you've figured it all out about half way through the series, you just spend the rest of it wondering if you actually have. In fact you feel somewhat played with at the end - like something has actually invaded your being. You get so hooked into this hypothetical mystery you've created in your head, about where it all could be going, and when you finally realise that it was on the 'Big Fat Nothing' road all along, you're just left feeling shaken.

Now for some strange reason, I didn't know how to feel about that ... and I don't even know why. I wasn't angry with the show for getting the better of me, neither did I admire it for doing so. I just sat and contemplated the aftermath for a bit. I had clearly cared about the series and, for the first time ever (I think), I just couldn't figure out why.

It's actually a bit like this review - despite how it begun, all I seem to have ended up doing is trashing the show. There's no pay off where I actually tell you WHY I liked it ... I mean I guess it just filled a hole or something. I don't know how or why but it just worked on me ... quite damned well in fact.

Not that I'd recommend it to anyone, of course

Three years ago I watch this anime's spinoff series called Fuuka without having any knowledge about what where that series was based on.

Now that I have watched Suzuka here goes nothing.

So this anime is about a boy called Yamato who came from a rural country to live in Tokyo to study. He meets some blue short haired girl called asahina who he finds attractive and decides to join the tract time to get close to her. But when he reunites with his childhood friend Honaka things get very complicated.

The story itself is okay, just like with Fuuka it has some good moments and really good animation. But I didn't really like the main guy or the main girl. The guy is an idiot and the girl comes accross as selfish and rude to me.

The dub is good. As well as the music however.

When my friend James Hobson recommended this great anime, I was amazed to see how much of a good taste he has. This anime has changed my ,life. I know see anime differently and would like force this culture upon every human being on Earth. I cant deny that I may have popped a few chubs and played with my sin zones. But that is the magic of anime. You cant help but be fascinated by the creators and their amazing work. I love anime and am feeling a force taking over me. I was A small fan but now I feel like I have been transformed in to a wee a boo. I want to say thanks Jimmibob for showing me this life and hope to waste my life on crunchy roll. Suzuka is the best!!

So I just finished watching Suzuka. It wasn't bad per say, it was kind of interesting. I must say, in the beginning I wasn't really feeling the anime just because it was a little "meh" the characters were alright. Towards the ending though, probably the last 6 episodes I was a little more captivated because I'm a huge romantic and I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. I thought the ending was somewhat satisfying and the soundtracks were pretty good, my favourite has to be "Scars from long ago" because it's honestly so beautiful. If you enjoy romance and want to learn a little more about track and don't mind it being a little cliché go for it!

I give this show a 10/10 because it needs a higher rating than it has. Suzuka while nothing special as an anime, has potentially the best most stunning stories of is genre.

If your interested in the series like I was start by watching the anime. It doesn't have "outstanding" animation or the best voice work, but it'll give you a quick well inspired entrance to the story.

After I finished watching the show I felt let down. It didn't tell me anything that happened afterward! So I read the manga and found myself reading all 166 chapters in 2 days. It had more character development, more story, more insight fullness, and generally more heart than the anime (however after watching the somewhat short anime I got to imagine the way the characters spoke more naturally which helped a lot.). I read through the manga and found myself wanting more and more! I began reading and watching stories similar but, nothing compares to Suzuka in its realism and honesty.

While in the beginning Asahina Suzuka seems like a cold unlovable person in the beginning part of the wonder was watching her slowly open up to everyone and begin to accept herself, her life, and the imperfection of the world around her. This series was by far the best I've seen/read. I've read and watched Love Hina, Ichigo 100%, Ai Ori Ayoshi and many more but I found myself simply comparing them to Suzuka.

Without a doubt I recommend this show to ANYONE who wants to seriously read the manga all the way through. If you don't feel like watching 26 episodes of it. Find where you would be in the manga and keep reading. This story WILL have something you can learn from somewhere in it.

    anime: story = 10/10 characters = 10/10 animation = 7/10 originality = (beginning = 2/10, later = 10/10) music = 10/10 voice work = 8/10

overall = 8/10 (Sorry but I found the animation to be awkward at times.)

    Manga: Story = 12/10 (the story was outstanding) characters = 10/10 artwork = 10/10 originality = (beginning = 2/10, around chapter 12 = 10/10) ending = 10/10 (though I still want more ._.)

overall: 11/10 (AMAZING, Any teenager in a relationship go read this NOW)

Okay I watched the anime and read the manga and I'll tell you they are both absolutely awful! Let's start with the anime we get the cliché of love at first sight (which I do not believe in) and then some boy just falling for some girl because of her good looks and athletic ability, despite her rude attitude and how she treats him.

I thought Yamato (the main character) was okay but he really could have used proper character development to which he did not get anymore of in the manga. Yamato was not as irresponsible as certain people try to make him, he was little more then a typical teenager.

In fact hardly any of it is realistic because the manga in particular we see Yamato made the lightening rod of consequences where we hardly (if ever) see anyone else face any for their shenanigans. This is one of the core reasons why Suzuka is not realistic at all because of how much Yamato is made a lightening rod of consequences not to mention how selective at best the consequences tend to be in both anime and manga.

Frankly I thought the only really sane girls were Miki Hashiba, Yui Amami (shown in the manga) and Nana Shirakawa. Miki Hashiba was my favorite because of all the girls she was the most....real, because I liked Miki's warm and good hearted personality while she can be slightly nosy and a bit of a busy body at times its difficult to hate her because its obvious she means well whenever she does.

I didn't care much for Suzuka herself and I also found it quite annoying that instead of giving him advice Yamato's aunt Ayano likes to belittle him and compare him to Suzuka another thing I found sickening.

Also his cousin Miho she doesn't do much to help Yamato if anything in fact she also tends to pile on the crap by joining in.

Honoka was not much better yes she was a sweet, shy girl but she never tried to see things from Yamato's point of view not to say Yamato was a saint he can get excited not to mention he suffers from his own awkwardness (particularly around women) not to mention his attempts to win everyone over. But Honoka was not so bad but I hated how she turned out in the manga.

Also one of the very, very, very few things I liked about the anime was Saki Asai was not in it! In the manga she was so disgusting with how she treated Yamato and was so happy to just humiliate him and betray his confidences without any remorse at all. In fact Saki had the most galling hypocrisy of the characters she goes on and on about how Yamato does not 'understand a woman's feeling' yet refuses to ever be sensitive to him. If that's how Saki treats her friends it gives me the chill's to see how she would treat her enemies.

Also when Yamato and Suzuka get together in both the anime and the manga well Suzuka's personality does an immediate (also unconvincing and unrealistic) flip!

Also I didn't like Yamato's so called 'best friend' Yasunobu who was more a leech then a best friend who just caused problems for Yamato, even to the end he was more a pain in the butt then a best friend. Also making up lies and all that, with him having Yamato take the blame? Some friend!

So this is one anime to give a miss because it is so full of cliché and bad writing and don't go for the manga because you'll get even worse writing and even more cliché, especially at the end of the manga!

So basically to any teenager reading this review let me tell you something do not watch this or read the manga but if you must do not think of at least half the story as realistic because if you pull the crap certain characters do including Suzuka herself you will face consequences which neither the anime nor the manga will care to show and the Kouji Seo has not bothered to put in.

---- I don't want to spoil too much, but i have some----

One of the best anime and manga i have ever seen and read... I am not over exaggerating this series or anything. To be honest i just finished the manga two times (Since it is already over) and i was looking for some related news about suzuka to read about.

I don't get it, why some of the people didn't like it or hate it.. However, its none of business anyway, so here is my review about what i loved and wanted in the series.

    Things i loved

yamato had plenty of chances to get over her but despite of all the time he had, he still stuck up with suzuka. I really loved it because sometimes we cant move on even though we found we don't have a chance.

The moral that story had hidden in it-- If you just give up and let it go nothing is going to change, but if you take a step forward and try you best something good will happen.. I was inspired by this.

Suzuka's love towards yamato--- It was like a art, (Its my opinion, the thing you want the most is not the easiest to get, but once you grab hold of it, you will never lose it). Even though she ignored, yelled, hated and avoided him but once she made up her mind she never turned back. In the she will say "I couldn't live with you yamato-kun" that was epic and i had a fantastic feeling at that time in manga.

things i missed in this series is-- he never competed against arima and won, that was a disappointed. However, he won the life race so i am glad.

Over all-- I enjoyed and loved the series and i couldn't get this out of mind. In the end i am wanting to have a love story like this.

10/10 for everything.. I loved it..

Despite what i say, you may like or hate this series, because it is based on the mind set you're watching. If you are teen and going through the same hell as yamato (Of course, in a different way) you will love it and have a resolve.

Everyone should watch it.. There is nothing awful in this.. I am glad i watched this series.

Loved the romance between Yamato and Suzuka when they were students in the same school together. It was even interesting that Yamato took up running and Suzuka was doing such high jumps that would make your jaw drop!

Definately check this out before watching Fuuka since you'll miss out on how the Akitsuki fam started off ;)
