  • At first I was like what heck is this? It looked cheap and they kept blasting random music every couple of seconds but then I get to the second episode and I am like okay...you have my attention. It sort of reminds me of an old cartoon called American Dragon Jake Long with the hunter and the "monster" love story. The acting is a bit meh but I have a feeling I am not their target demographic I am a wee bit older but I still enjoyed it nevertheless.
  • I admit that I haven't finished the first season yet but it's really enjoyable and very slick. My own attention span is small and I've stopped so many very highly rated series and movies due to them being slow and boring. This is really enjoyable and well done. Congratulations to all involved and good luck for renewals.

Per my headline, I am concerned that some of the negative comments come from a prejudicial point of view. That's how it looks to me.
  • Netflix had an opportunity to really do something fun and interesting and different with this take on the classic "supernatural forbidden love" trope, but the poor writing and shoddy production really killed this show. First person voiceovers are very hard to do well and come off more cringe-y than anything here, plus the terrible music direction reveals how out of touch the producers are with what their demographic wants or how to appropriately use and place music to help create an atmosphere. I don't think anyone working on this project knew what they were doing, or understood the themes and direction of the show.

    Sapphics deserve better than this.
  • So people know that one of the first vampire stories, involved a lesbian vampire right? I was going to come on here and review it as "Romeo and Juliet" meets "Carmilla" only to see all this LGBT+ hate!?? It's disappointing that the LGBT+ part is being pushed as a negative. I'm really glad it's there, because gay relationships need more screen time.

I thought it had it's good points and it's bad, I wish there was a little less teen drama, because there's a lot of other good story arches going. I was a bit disappointed where it left off, because it felt like it was leaving a cliffers hanger on purpose. The lore they have going on is pretty interesting too, and I wish I would have seen more of that explored.

I don't think the leads were bad, but I think a slightly better screen time balance would have done a lot more for the story. Because I think there's a lot of likable characters going on, and some of them are really well written because they have complex personalities, and are not just one note. The characters are really strongly written.

The acting is pretty good. Although some of the lines are pretty cheesy, but overall I thought it was really entertaining. But I do actually really like the story Carmilla. It was really fun. Cheesy, but fun.
  • This is incredible. The first time I've seen a queer girl relationship that wasn't overly sexualised to fake-hetro Katy Perry I-kissed-a-girl vibes, and overshadowed by some great coming out story. They're here, they're queer, and they've got way bigger problems to sink their teeth into. Absolute joyride to have a good monster slasher show with protagonists I can enjoy as well.

    Fangtastic!
  • I don't think I've seen anything as corny in my entire life butt hell yeah this was watchable and I'll def watch s02 if they make one.

Cute romance thing that's been done oh so many times but hey it's cute.

That very last scene tho... god it had me in tears laughing.

No, just no. All great reviews are BOTS, do not trust them. I cannot stand another episode. Please put out some decent context Netflix or I'm joining in the millions cancelling their membership because there is nothing good to watch on Netflix.
  • Ok so maybe the graphics weren't the greatest and maybe the acting was a little corny and cringe, but I'll be damned to say that I was giggling and screaming at my screen every scene that cal and jul had together and for them alone I give it a 9, I said what I said.
  • This show was honestly amazing. It got kinda cringe at some bits, but I loved it. These two characters fill a spot in my heart and if this show gets cancelled I will never forgive anyone.
  • I was really hyped for First Kill. Thank you so much to the author and Netflix for this. I decided to rewatch with a more.. cold head and objectivity. I loved it again. But ! For the next season y'all will have to work on some details.

    My recommendations:
    • Less inner monologue. I guess they were very present in the novel but in tv show it can become very annoying.

    • More and BETTER monsters's fight scenes (so better cgi too). We don't see enough power or strength from the monsters.

    • More informations about the city's past with monsters. But I guess we'll get that later.

    • Careful with the music volume, the soundtrack was great really but we need to focus on what the characters are saying.

Congrats on the premiere. I'll be there for season 2 !

Representation does not make up for awfully written characters, a script riddled with plot holes, wooden dialogue and poorly done CGI. Quality matters folks.
  • I had such a fun time watching this, it's so nice to see a cheesy show that has lesbian main characters. I hate that so many people are treating it as though it has to be a masterpiece, we deserve to have our fun supernatural romances too!! It was very wattpad-y but that was honestly my favourite thing about it. The cast is superb, the lore is interesting, not to mention the lovable characters. Netflix had better give us a renewal and not cancel it like every single other wlw show they've made.

I like it, though i'm a bit biased possibly as I find the main actress super cute, its on the back of things like buffy, supernatural, but a more light hearted take, the action is ok,and the monsters work quite well with makeup on , think buffy creatures really, but the cgi monsters? Thats a no, they arent good, should of skipped those...
  • I wanted to like this show, I really did. Yes it's corny with terrible cgi but that I didn't mind. What bothered me I don't think the two girls really have chemistry. For a passionate love story that is ripping apart families, I just wasn't buying it. The plot and dialogue needed work, but there is some good parts as well and would be willing to watch a season 2.
  • First reviewers are all first time reviewers...a phenomena more and more common on this website...i find a lot of the time it's better, if something interests me for whatever reason, to watch either a pilot, or the first 30 minutes or so of a movie and decide for myself...i've (almost) missed too many productions that i wound up REALLY liking to trust most reviewers at this point... it used to anger me that imdb didn't filter out these 'invested' reviewers...but then i realized how UTTERly unreasonable that was as an expectation... if nothing else, just the personnel information(AND connections to other works of people we consider talented) is worth 'the price' of the site... so now it all works much better for me... good luck, no matter your decisions...
  • The actors are of course very far from being academy award winners - although the ladies from the Fairmont family are doing a very decent job and they probably land some future roles easily.

The problem is the script that can't put flesh on the awesome premise that hunter and vampire fall in love with each other. It doesn't help to associate the story with Romeo and Juliet, which is way better executed, but then they could have called Cal Romina instead to go along with Juliette. Also the frequency of very bad decisions by various people is staggering to say the least and they are not carefully introduced or motivated.

I enjoyed the show somewhat and I am cautiously optimistic for a second season. But I am afraid that better shows have been ended after a season.
  • As I wrote in title of my review this show it's not bad at all. I don't understand the reason why there are so many bad reviews. For sure it's not a masterpiece at all but as entertainment it's good enough to spend some hours watching this show. Ya it's more on teens side probably...the soundtrack, the actors etc...it's polically correct maybe a little bit too much and it's not bad at all. The characters sometimes are a little bit "over" and the story too. But if u wanna pure entertainment with vampires, monsters etc give it a chance without prejudice and u will not disappointed.
  • In love with the story line but pretty much horrified by the script... 😭 DIRECTORS - PLEASE GET INVOLVED MORE BC THIS STORY COULD BE GOLDEN AND I WANT AT LEAST 3 MORE SEASONS🙏🏽 Thank you

IM JUST NOT BUYING THE CHARACTER OF CALLIOPE AND IT'S RUINING IT SHE'S GIVING KRISTEN STEWART MEANWHILE JULLIETE IS GIVING LEONARDO DICAPRIO.
  • Okay so first of all, I gave this series a one star rating NOT because it is "about vamps and gay people" as some people said BUT because it is really bad. Let me tell you why: 1) the acting: Fairly enough, the main characters not even okayish or bearable, they're just straight awful. I don't feel any tension or chemistry between them! There is nothing that makes me want to watch their relationship other than just being too lazy to find anything else to watch. Don't even get me started on the other actors. 2) the awful cgi: the cgi is what threw me off completely. Netflix is not even bothering with making mediocre cgi anymore, they've just thrown in unfinished, lazy, video game graphic monsters. I was actually laughing when I saw the first monster! 3) the worst part, the plot: I don't even want to call it that, because there are no contextual rules when it comes to vampires, they are basically no better than humans, they can be staked by teenagers, they are not fast or have any abilities whatsoever. The hunter aren't trained, they are no other than self claimed neighborhood police men who basically just hit the gym. The hunters aren't scared or intimidated by anything so why would I, the viewer, take anything seriously? The dialogues sound like a grotesque mosaic of generic things people say in vampire films, such as "coven", "legacies", "curse", without explaining anything. I could go on for days but please just spare yourself the worst series of all times. Go watch literally anything else.

    10/10
    MWAH
Amazing show!! The storyline, actors, character, just everything matches perfectly. Such a good show to watch. I expect more of this serie. Hope it gets a season 2.
  • I am trying to enjoy this show, but I don't know how much more of this awful rap music I can take. Someone please change the station. I am surprised the music is this bad, most vampire shows etc usually have really good soundtracks. If there is a season 2 I don't know if I can do it, music in a show is really important to me and I cringe with this crap.
  • Surprised by all the 10/10 which have only rated this show and no others so assuming lots of fake reviews

If you like the twilight / teen / vamp etc genre then you'll most likely enjoy this as it's not poorly done, just not my genre as it's a bit young.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I love the 2000s teen flick approach on this. No matter what people say about that, I will stand by it. It's a teen vampire flick, it's only appropriate for it to pay homage to its successors. The hunter and prey trope is amazing, the lesbian pining approach is amazing. "It's a cliche trope" of course it is, it's a teen flick.

However the spotlight was immediately stolen by three amazing female characters holding the foundations of this show; Elinor, Talia, and Margot. Their characters, the complexities, and the actors themselves give this such a perfect mix for the whole plot.

Can't wait for season 2 AND these three characters.
  • The overall story and plot structure is very attractive for me. Unlike the previous character settings, there is always a main character who is normal/ innocent person. The job setting of Monster Hunter makes these two families and two girl's relationship are more tense and interesting.

The most reason why I like this show so much is that same-sex orientation in very normally in the storyline, liking the same sex person is normal/ accepted and does not need to be discussed or debated separately, which makes this show more able to comfort people who are not accepted in the real society.

Although I felt that some actors' acting skills were a bit embarrassing in the first few episodes, but the later episodes gradually improved.

The most unfortunate thing is that the atmosphere/ scene/ special effects/ pictures of the whole film are lower quality than other popular shows. I can feel that the filming funds for this show are relatively less a lot, but I think this show overall has great potential in the future. Hope that Netflix can see the all voices of fans and renew it for at least two seasons, and then provide more shooting budget to the crews, let them be more flexible to shoot a better follow-up Juliette and Calliope story!
  • It's an insult to the genre. The special effects are abysmal, the script is a joke and the acting is that of a bad soap. Without the fun and campiness. They put too much music, which wouldn't bother me, if it was good. The love story is dull and an excuse to throw commonplaces, and see which one sticks. This doesn't deserve a second season for the little efforts given. Don't trust those 10/10 reviews. They are clearly fake or duplicate, or written by clueless teenagers. Just like the show is itself.
