After a prolonged legal battle spanning more than two years, Gerard Butler and the producers of the “Olympus Has Fallen” franchise reached a settlement regarding the actor’s $10 million lawsuit on Thursday. The suit sought a share of profits generated by the 2013 White House action franchise.

After the success of the first film, Greenland 2 director Ric Roman Waugh is teasing how the Gerard Butler-led sequel is taking a Dune-like approach to its story. Butler starred in the original film as a structural engineer who raced against time to get his wife and son to an emergency shelter in the eponymous country to survive a comet set to cause an exctinction-level event. Scoring generally favorable reviews and strong box office and VOD returns, a sequel was announced a few months later, tentatively titled Greenland: Migration.

Respected French filmmaker and actor Mathieu Kassovitz will lead the cast of Paris Has Fallen, which will be made by StudioCanal, War of the Worlds producer Urban Myth Films, and two companies behind the film franchise: Millennium Media and Butler’s G-Base. Eclectic Pictures is also attached.

Vértice 360, one of Spain’s top indie production-distribution companies, is expanding operations to Latin America, Italy and Portugal, as fruit of its ambitious plan to become a reference on the international film distribution scene.

Part of the Squirrel Media group, the Madrid-based distributor is backing a first stage of its international expansion with the investment of more than 100 million in film content for distribution in the 35 territories where it already operates.

At the current Cannes Film Market, Vértice is looking for movie deals to expand its international line up.

The distributor mainly looks for blockbusters going out to independent industry and prestige projects which are liable to win international awards, but also local productions in both Spanish and English.

Vértice has already established business relationships with top independent content providers such as Millennium Media, FilmNation, A24, Studiocanal and Pathé.
