Ship, the announced sequel to the Gerard Butler-starring Plane, gets a new update from star Mike Colter. Released in 2023 and directed by Jean-François Richet, Plane stars Butler as Brodie Torrance, an airline pilot and former Raf officer who teams up with Colter's Louis Gaspare to rescue his passengers after being forced to land in a war zone. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it was announced shortly after the film's release that a sequel called Ship was in the works. Few updates on the project have emerged since, however.
Now, during a panel at Indiana Comic Con hosted by Collider, Colter shares an update on the status of the Plane sequel. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like there's been much movement on Ship just yet, with Colter blaming the delay on the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023, which began only months after Ship's announcement.

Gerard Butler has long been a staple of the action genre, and it seems as if he's only leaned harder into this area of his career over the last decade or so. After becoming a big name due to movies like Reign of Fire (2002) and 300 (2006), Butler appeared in a handful of exciting action flicks, including RocknRolla (2008), Gamer (2009), and Machine Gun Preacher (2011). It was in 2013, however, that Butler's action hero persona really evolved.
In 2013, Butler starred in Olympus Has Fallen, which could be seen as the start of a new phase of his career. In addition to starring in two sequels to this White House action movie, including London Has Fallen (2016) and Angel Has Fallen (2019), Butler appeared in a mix of action-forward movies that varied quite significantly in quality, including Geostorm (2017), Hunter Killer (2018), Greenland (2020), Copshop (2021), and Plane (2023). There was one 2018 title, however, that really struck a chord with audiences.

Warning: Major spoilers for Paris Has Fallen below!Paris Has Fallen is a spinoff of the Has Fallen franchise, and the show made a smart choice by setting itself apart from the Gerard Butler saga. In 2013's White House Down vs Olympus Has Fallen box-office battle, the latter emerged victorious; of course, it also had the benefit of being released months ahead of its rival. Butler's Secret Service agent Mike Banning returned for the entire Has Fallen movie trilogy, but Paris Has Fallen takes the series in a very different direction by moving to television.
The spinoff still has all the action and one-liners, but it's able to spend more time developing the protagonists too. Warning: Major spoilers for Paris Has Fallen below! It's easy to miss on first viewing, but Paris Has Fallen drops a big hint about where the next season could take place - and it's not France. Paris Has Fallen's ending sees protagonists Vincent (Tewfik Jallab) and Zara (Ritu Arya) taking down villain Pearce (Sean Harris) and saving the day. Still, the finale is a dark one, and despite Pearce getting the corrupt French President (Emmanuelle Bercot) to confess her part in the death of his family, some political spin frees her of the consequences. The finale also sees Pearce's financiers, Dcx Capital, setting up their next job.
Pearce needed money to finance his revenge campaign, with his backers Dcx then making money from the chaos he creates. They also gave Pearce a mercenary named Freja (Ana Ularu) for his mission - both as a henchwoman and insurance against Pearce going rogue.

Of course, that plan goes awry, leading to a shootout between the heroes and Pearce's men; this buys the vengeful soldier all the time he needs the President.

Gerard Butler’s 2018 action-thriller Hunter Killer has arrived on Tubi, giving the forgotten movie a second chance to find an audience. While the movie has recently had a stint on Netflix, there is nothing like free content that doesn’t require a paid subscription, and that has proved to be a big draw for action movie fans. While Butler is usually seen running around on land, this time around he is taking a deep-dive into the world of geopolitical espionage and submarine warfare.
Hunter Killer sees Butler playing Captain Joe Glass, a submarine commander who is tested to the limit when he is thrown into a battle to prevent the outbreak of World War III – well, isn’t that always the goal? After uncovering a coup within the Russian government, Glass must strategically play the game to navigate political and military tensions, take down the bad guys, and – there’s...

Action enthusiasts will have a hard time watching the Has Fallen trilogy on Hulu. Only the first entry in the Gerard Butler-led film series will hit the streaming platform at the end of November.
Beginning Nov. 29, Olympus Has Fallen will become available to stream on Hulu. Unfortunately, its sequels, 2016's London Has Fallen and 2019's Angel Has Fallen, will not be joining the 2013 movie on the streaming platform which will no doubt frustrate fans of the franchise who subscribe to Hulu. Olympus Has Fallen introduces audiences to Butler's Mike Banning, a former Army Ranger and current Secret Service agent who finds himself in the midst of a national crisis. When North Korean terrorists seize the White House, Banning must use his skills and insider knowledge to rescue the President and reclaim the nation's symbol of power.

One of the highest rated action thrillers in the repertoire of Gerard Butler is now available to stream for free. Butler has become synonymous with the action movie genre thanks to roles in the likes of Olympus Has Fallen and its sequels, the crime thriller Den of Thieves, Plane, Greenland, 300, and more. But one of his lesser-known forays into the explosive world of action is also one of his most critically acclaimed, and you can now watch it for nothing.
Titled Copshop, the action thriller was released back in 2021, and stars Butler alongside another action icon, Frank Grillo, as well as Alexis Louder, Toby Huss, and Chad Coleman. The movie is now available to stream via Amazon Freevee, and finds Butlers hitman tracking Grillos mysterious con artist to a small town, where they find themselves in jail alongside each other. You can check out the official synopsis for Copshop below.

Gerard Butlers Has Fallen series has become an unexpected blockbuster action franchise, and its next installment will shake up the series in one significant way. The series began in 2013 with Olympus Has Fallen, best described as Die Hard in the White House. Butler plays a disgraced Secret Service agent named Mike Banning, who scores a chance at redemption when hes the last line of defense during a North Korean-led guerrilla assault on the White House. The movie was a big enough hit for the studio to launch a franchise, with each sequel pitting Banning against a different political threat.
The first sequel, London Has Fallen, released in 2016, sees Banning protecting the U.S. President when terrorists attack the British Prime Ministers funeral and the whole city descends into chaos. The threequel, Angel Has Fallen, released in 2019, sees Banning racing to clear his name when hes framed for a drone strike on the President.

Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down came out only three months apart in 2013, with both movies featuring similar premises. Directors Antoine Fuqua and Roland Emmerich reflect on their movies coming out in the same year, with Emmerich revealing that he thought Olympus Has Fallen had the better title. Fuqua recalls feeling a sense of "healthy competition." Both White House action movies faired about the same with critics, but Olympus Has Fallen won at the box office due to its smaller budget.

The Bricklayer is an action-packed film with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. Aaron Eckhart and Nina Dobrev have fantastic chemistry on screen and worked well together. The director, Renny Harlin, is experienced in action films and helped create intense and memorable scenes.
In The Bricklayer, an ex-CIA agent, Steve Vail, is brought out of retirement to stop a rogue insurgent. The insurgent is assassinating foreign journalists and framing the CIA as the killers in an attempt to turn governments around the world against the U.S. As this blackmail plan seems to be working, the agency will rely on Vail to stop the insurgent by any means necessary.
The Bricklayer is directed by Renny Harlin. The screenplay was penned by Hanna Weg and Matt Johnson based on the 2010 novel of the same name written by Paul Lindsay under his pen name Noah Boyd.

Gerard Butler plays Secret Service agent Mike Banning in the 2013 action thriller Olympus Has Fallen, which went on to become a hit. Butler filed a lawsuit in 2021 alleging that two of the film's production companies hid profits and misrepresented the movie's revenue, and that he was owed at least $10 million. Butler and the defendants recently reached an undisclosed settlement. Butler is expected to return for a fourth movie in the franchise called Night Has Fallen, but there have been few concrete updates on the project since it was confirmed in 2020.

After a prolonged legal battle spanning more than two years, Gerard Butler and the producers of the “Olympus Has Fallen” franchise reached a settlement regarding the actor’s $10 million lawsuit on Thursday. The suit sought a share of profits generated by the 2013 White House action franchise.
The actor claimed in the 2021 lawsuit that he was owed payment for his work on the 2013 blockbuster, which in the decade since spawned two sequels.
Defendants Nu Image and Millennium Media’s attorneys filed a “Notice of Settlement of Entire Case” paperwork on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news.

The future of the Has Fallen franchise depends on the success of Night Has Fallen, but the movie is facing significant delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and potential production challenges. Producer Les Weldon suggests that if Night Has Fallen meets expectations, two more movies could follow in quick succession. However, if it fails to perform well, the franchise could be in danger. To keep the universe alive, regardless of the movie franchise's status, a TV show titled Paris Has Fallen is in the works, featuring Mathieu Kassovitz as protection officer Vincent.

Olympus Has Fallen was a huge box office success, but White House Down, which had a similar premise and was released just three months later, was a major box office bomb. Released in June 2013, White House Down is an action movie directed by Roland Emmerich and follows John Cale (Channing Tatum), a Capitol Police Officer who has to protect the U.S. President, James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx) from a terrorist group. That's eerily similar to another 2013 action movie, Olympus Has Fallen, which follows former Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), who also has to protect the U.S. President (Aaron Eckhart) from a terrorist group.
The success of Olympus Has Fallen led to an action movie franchise, including two sequels. The Has Fallen film series has made more than half a billion dollars, and now there is a TV show spinoff titled Paris Has Fallen in production. Additionally, the...

After the success of the first film, Greenland 2 director Ric Roman Waugh is teasing how the Gerard Butler-led sequel is taking a Dune-like approach to its story. Butler starred in the original film as a structural engineer who raced against time to get his wife and son to an emergency shelter in the eponymous country to survive a comet set to cause an exctinction-level event. Scoring generally favorable reviews and strong box office and VOD returns, a sequel was announced a few months later, tentatively titled Greenland: Migration.

It would appear that the King of Modern Trash Cinema™ is on his way to becoming the King of Modern Trash Shared Universes: Deadline is reporting that Gerard Butler's "Has Fallen" franchise is headed to the small screen, even as a fourth movie centered on Butler's Secret Service Agent Mike Banning continues to move forward.

An update has come in on the future of the Has Fallen franchise. After three feature films — Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen — the franchise is set to make the transition to the small screen for its next installment. Deadline reports that filming is slated to soon start for Paris Has Fallen, a TV series set in the Has Fallen universe. Reportedly, the plan is to start filming in London and Paris on May 30, 2023. The series will be shopped to the U.S. and UK buyers by StudioCanal in the coming months, so it's not yet clear where it will land just yet in those territories.
Paris Has Fallen will be introducing a new protagonist. It's noted in the new report that franchise star Gerard Butler isn't officially attached to the project at this time, but the actor "could make a cameo." The series will be led by Mathieu Kassovitz.

A sequel to Plane has been confirmed with an even more ridiculous title than the first installment. The Jean-François Richet-directed action flick starring Gerard Butler and Mike Colter as an airplane pilot teaming up with a prisoner to rescue the passengers from a terrorist group after their plane crashes on a remote island was a surprise hit among critics and audiences. The film currently has a 77 rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed 43 million at the worldwide box office over a 25 million budget.
Now, THR reports that a Plane 2, ridiculously titled Ship, will be shopped to studios at the European Film Market during the Berlin International Film Festival. Colter will reprise his character from Plane, Louis Gaspare, and the film will be set on a cargo ship in East Asia where he discovers a human trafficking ring inside, which leads him to take down the people responsible and rescue the captives.

Plane is Gerard Butler’s latest high-octane film, but how does Plane’s Rotten Tomatoes score compare to Butler’s previous action movies? Plane is the first major action movie of 2023, but is not the first of Gerard Butler’s action movies as these tend to be where he shines the most. Plane follows Butler as a pilot named Brodie, who saves his passengers from a lightning strike that causes his plane to crash on a war-torn island. It only gets worse when the island they land on is home to dangerous rebels who take the passengers hostage, and Brodie and accused murderer Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter) have to save them.

Gerard Butler revealed that he almost killed co-star Hilary Swank in an incident involving a crocodile clamp while shooting a scene for their film P.S. I Love You. The romantic drama, which was released in 2007, was directed by Richard Lagravenese and based on the Cecelia Ahern novel of the same name. While it was a success at the box office and well-liked by audiences, the film garnered largely negative reviews from critics who thought that Swank was miscast in the lead role and largely panned the adaptation of Ahern's book.

As we revealed last year, Solstice Studios had boarded worldwide rights to The Plane after Lionsgate initially hit Covid-related insurance issues on the project, which was one of the hot packages at last year’s American Film Market. But the final points on the Solstice deal couldn’t be agreed on and the movie is now heading back to Lionsgate in a case of high-profile Hollywood volleyball.
With much of the world re-opening after the ravages of the pandemic, the studio now feels better about taking on the risk and we understand production is due to begin this summer in Puerto Rico.

Portugal’s cash rebate scheme, introduced in 2018, is attracting major international productions and new production outfits and facilities, and providing significant leverage for domestic film and TV productions.
Shoots slowed during the pandemic, with several projects lensed in bubbles, but production is expected to surge in the second half of 2021.
The current cash rebate is tabbed at 25/30% of eligible production spend and may be upwardly revised in the near future.
€22.5 million ($27.5 million) in total cash rebate has been disbursed since 2018, roughly equally split between international shoots and 100% Portuguese productions and co-productions.
High-profile projects include Ira Sachs’ “Frankie,” with Isabelle Huppert, Richard Stanley’s “The Color Out of Space,” starring Nicolas Cage, Marco Pontecorvo’s “Fatima,” with Harvey Keitel, and three Bollywood pics. These projects have accessed cash rebate per pic varying between €631,000 and €1.9 million ($2.4 million) Portugal is also shaking up its production eco-system. Pubcaster Rtp has shifted from telenovelas to...
