ABC Signature veteran Tracy Underwood has been elevated to President of the Disney Television Studios division. Underwood, most recently EVP of creative affairs for ABC Signature, is taking over the top post vacated by Jonnie Davis in July.
In her new position, Underwood will add oversight of current series to her current role overseeing development of drama, comedy and limited series, which will not be backfilled. Sydnee Rimes, SVP of Series and head of ABC Signature’s current series team, will now report into Underwood; Susan Lewis, SVP of Drama Development, and Danny Feldheim, SVP of Comedy Development, will continue to report into her.
Underwood’s promotion caps a lengthy search for Davis’ successor led by Eric Schrier, President of Disney Television Studios and Global Original TV Strategy for Disney Entertainment, to whom she will report. The new Muppets show is the latest in a string of cancellations at Disney+ as the streamer cuts back on original programming.
It’s a tough time to work in the TV and Film industry right now. With cancellations coming left right and centre, and still relatively few new shows announced after the conclusion of the writers and actors strikes, it looks like streamers might be looking at some of their existing programming and wondering how on earth it’s supposed to turn a profit.
The latest casualty of these tightening purse strings is The Muppets Mayhem, which won’t be renewed by Disney+ after its first season aired in May this year.
It follows Disney+ original shows National Treasure, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., Willow, Big Shot and Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, all of which have been axed this year. The Spiderwick Chronicles, an upcoming adaptation of the fantasy novels...

As beloved as The Muppets are, they can’t seem to catch a break on Disney+. It was reported today that The Muppets Mayhem has been canceled by the streaming service after one season.
Developed and written by The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, Bill Barretta, and Jeff Yorkes, The Muppets Mayhem follows “The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora Singh (Lilly Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face-to-face with the current-day music scene as they try to finally record their first studio album.“
Disney+ never revealed the ratings for The Muppets Mayhem, but it’s clear they weren’t quite what the studio had hoped.

Added Brent Stanton, head of Daytime and Children’s & Family Emmy Awards: “Programming created for children’s and family viewing has a long history of leading the way in innovation and storytelling. In this year specifically, a...

As the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences continues to figure out how and when to finally hold this year’s Daytime Emmys — delayed in June due to the WGA strike — it has gone ahead and announced the nominations for this year’s 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmys.
There’s no date yet for this year’s Chidren’s & Family Emmys — NATAS is likely waiting for a hopeful soon resolution to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike before firming up dates. But last year, winners were announced during two ceremonies—one focused on creative and technical arts, and the other to performances and programming—at Wilshire Ebell Theatre on December 10 and 11. This year’s Cafe will likely be held around the same time — and NATAS could very well use that timeframe to simultaneously finally hold the Daytime Emmys as well.

Many Lives And Deaths Of Christopher Lee
Abacus Media Rights has pre-sold the feature documentary “The Life and Deaths of Christopher Lee,” to Sky Arts, Sbs Television Australia; to NonStop Entertainment for Scandinavia, Iceland and the Baltics and to Movistar for Spain.
Lee is known as the Dracula character and for transitioning from 1960s Hammer horror films to a distinguished acting career that encompassed James Bond films, the “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings” franchises.
Less well-known are his aristocratic Italian roots, a close family connection to James Bond novelist Ian Fleming, Lee’s wartime experiences in the British and Finnish military, post-war Nazi-hunting adventures and a side career as a heavy metal rock singer. As an actor, Lee achieved a Guinness world record for the highest number of screen appearances.

Chris Stapleton has announced that his fifth studio album, Higher, will drop on November 10th via Mercury Nashville. As a preview, he’s also shared the record’s first single, “White Horse.” Listen to the song below.
Co-produced by Stapleton along with his wife Morgane Stapleton and his longtime collaborator Dave Cobb, Higher is the first LP from the 45-year-old country star since 2020’s Starting Over. The 14-track album will “span genres and defy easy categorization,” according to a press release. Pre-orders are ongoing.
The single “White Horse” certainly suggests that Stapleton is leaning into his strengths as a cross-genre act. Lyrics about cowboys “ridin’ off into the sunset” create a classic country vibe, but the electric guitar-driven arrangement feels akin to straight-up rock music, with a thick wall of sound delivering the powerful harmonic progression, and a guitar solo that’s a whole lot closer to Lynyrd Skynyrd than Chet Atkins.

We’ve all made the “Cop Rock” jokes. The Steven Bochco musical drama, which premiered in fall 1990, was a big swing: marrying original music with procedural storytelling. It was a colossal flop that we still talk about three decades later, and a reminder that musicals are hard.
Music has been a part of the TV landscape going back to the 1950s and shows like “Your Hit Parade.” But few series have successfully integrated regular music performances into their storytelling: “The Monkees” and “The Partridge Family” worked in the 1960s and ’70s. “Fame” did it in the early ’80s. And then “Cop Rock” scared people off the concept.
The 1990s animation boom incorporated music in shows like “The Simpsons” and “Animaniacs.” But not until the 21st century did scripted series really figure out how to make musical numbers work as part of the narrative. “Flight of the Conchords” did it with satiric tracks,...

The Muppets co-starring with live-action actors is a tried and true tradition. Though we have a bevy of gems in the Muppets filmography (Muppets Christmas Carol is god-tier holiday entertainment), fans still dream of literary and film classics being remade with Muppet and human casts. Did you know a Muppets Great Gatsby script exists? Now you do. The Great Gatsby is one of many classic tales in which fans dream cast Kermit the Frog and the gang. Tahj Mowry, Lilly Singh, Saara Choudry, and Anders Holm are the beloved puppets’ latest human co-stars. They star alongside Animal, Lips, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, and Dr. Teeth in The Muppets Mayhem, streaming now on Disney+. When Mowry came to the TV Insider office to chat about the series, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to get the Smart Guy alum to make his own Muppets dream casts. The prompt was simple...

The new ten-episode Disney+ series"The Muppets Mayhem" sees the return of the psychedelic Muppet band The Electric Mayhem as they embark on a rip-roaring adventure to record their debut album. Their fearless bandleader Dr. Teeth is still behind the keys and Animal is still beating his drum kit into submission, with all the rest of the band getting back together to make magic happen once again. The long history of Muppets movies has always been filled with pop culture references and glorified celebrity cameos, but aside from "Muppets Haunted Mansion," they've largely avoided any direct nods to the horror genre.

Every few months, it seems someone from Hollywood says the same thing: There are no true movie stars anymore. Blockbusters are now carried by brands and franchises, and the days of actors being able to sell a movie on their marketability alone have long since passed. How did this happen? There are a variety of possible reasons, but we’ll propose just one: movies just don’t have The Muppets in them anymore.
It has been almost 10 years since Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Scooter, and their various crafted cohorts graced theater screens in “Muppets Most Wanted,” which saw the acclaimed comedy group stage a prison break. Since then, the beloved creations of Jim Henson have been confined to the small screen, where they captured the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere via a strong candidate for the most influential sketch comedy series of all time: 1976-1981’s “The Muppet Show.

Asian Heritage Month vibe is rubbing off Saara Chaudry, who was all praises for her “The Muppets Mayhem” co-star Lilly Singh.
Speaking to Et Canada, Chaudry credits Singh for breaking down “barriers” for brown girls in Hollywood.
The two Canadian actors share the spotlight in the new star-studded Disney+ series “The Muppets Mayhem” alongside Tahj Mowry, and the trio recently sat down for a conversation with Et Canada’s Jed Tavernier to discuss the exciting new project.
“It was really meant to be that two brown girls from Toronto ended up in L.A. shooting a show with these iconic characters on a Disney Plus show. I just think it’s it’s a super special feeling,” says Chaudry of herself and her costar Singh.
Singh plays the lead character on the series, A&r executive Nora, who tries to help the all-muppet group Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem record their first-ever platinum album.

To celebrate the release of The Muppets Mayhem, which arrives on Disney+ this week, we had the distinct pleasure and honour of chatting with two of The Electric Mayhem Band’s members to learn about their new series.
“The Muppets Mayhem” follows The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone, and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora Singh (Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face-to-face with the current-day music scene as they try to finally record their first studio album.
Chatting to Animal (!) and Floyd Pepper (!), we talk about touring, recording albums (or lack of), what makes great rock and roll music, responsibilities in the band, the secret to a harmonious band relationship,...

“The Muppets Mayhem,” the first streaming series devoted to Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, the most iconic band in the Muppet universe, is finally here. All episodes are streaming on Disney+ right now and, appropriately, they rock. And TheWrap spoke to the Muppet-y stars of the show, which you can watch above.
When TheWrap asked the Electric Mayhem what other bands could benefit by having their singular energy on tour, we got some surprising answers. “I think that Animal could sit in with any band,” Floyd proclaimed, while Animal chimed in: “Harry! Harry!” Janice said that, “Taylor Swift and I would have a totally amazing time together,” which we imagine would be true. And Dr. Teeth noted that, “I’d posolutely love to accompany The Weeknd.” Can you imagine?

Keep your enemies close.
That’s the tagline for the AMC’s new post-apocalyptic drama titled “The Walking Dead: Dead City.” The series stars two “Walking Dead” alums with no love lost between them: Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
Fans of the original series won’t forget when Negan murdered Maggie’s husband (Steve Yeun) in front of her by pulverizing his head with a baseball bat. At least a decade has since passed, but Maggie will never forgive and forget.
Negan’s a survivalist though, and the unlikely duo head to New York City in the new series. The logline reads:
