Quiver Distribution announced today that it has acquired North American rights to the Anton and Qwerty Films production, directed by James Bond mastermind Martin Campbell and co-starring Clive Owen. MRC and Warner Bros. are backing the feature, which Warners will distribute after picking it up in a twisty bidding war.

Considered one of the great masterpieces of literature, Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel follows the Lintons and the turbulent relationship they have with the Earnshaws’ foster son, Heathcliff. The married couple held hands as they arrived at the premiere of Magpie held during FrightFest 24 on Friday (November 1) held at the Odeon Luxe West End in London, England.

Also in attendance was director Sam Yates and producer Kate Solomon.

Here’s the synopsis: “Magpie is a stylish neo-noir thriller centered on married couple Anette (Ridley) and Ben (Shazad Latif), whose lives begin to fracture when their daughter is cast alongside a glamorous movie star, Alicia (Matilda Lutz). As Anette’s suspicions of Ben’s infatuation with Alicia intensify, their secrets and lies threaten to burst to the surface and destroy them all.”

Tom wrote the screenplay.

The 32-year-old Star Wars actress and the 35-year-old Based on a True Story actor went for a walk around New York City on Sunday afternoon (October 27).

For their outing, Daisy wore an off-green dress while Tom sported a gray shirt over a white tank shirt paired with olive green pants.

The following day, Daisy looked pretty in a silk yellow dress as she stepped out for the 2024 Scad Savannah Film Festival in Savannah, Georgia.

During the event, Daisy was honored with the Lumiere Award in recognition of her work in Magpie and Young Woman and the Sea. She was presented with the award by Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced Young Woman and the Sea.

In a recent interview, Daisy talked about her upcoming return to the Star Wars movies and revealed the one and only person she tells franchise secrets to!

Daisy Ridley's latest comments seem to hint the upcoming Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie could well be turning into Episode X. Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, little is known about Rey's return as leader of the New Jedi Order. Ridley was won over by the pitch of director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which she considered refreshing enough to catch her eye. Although there were initial rumors the film would come out in December 2026, that now seems unlikely; James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi is apparently due to begin filming next year, meaning it's more likely to hit that slot.

Rey Skywalker actress Daisy Ridley has teased her return to the Star Wars universe in the upcoming sequel Star Wars: New Jedi Order, which is the first live-action film to feature her character since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, in her most recent comments regarding the upcoming movie, Ridley seemed to hint that New Jedi Order was just the beginning of Rey's next journey, implying the possibility of another trilogy on the horizon.

Details about Star Wars: New Jedi Order have been few and far between which is unsurprising given the rocky status of many Disney projects but while speaking to THR about her most recent film Magpie, Ridley mentioned her anticipation to reprise the Rey Skywalker role. Intriguingly, when referring to the project, Ridley stated, "I feel like the new one/new ones will be so interesting." This phrasing suggests the existence of multiple upcoming films in which Rey appears.

Emotionally intense roles can certainly take their role on actors. Bill Skarsgrd once reported he left like he was losing his mind while portraying Pennywise in the latest adaptation of Stephen King's It, for example. In a more recent thriller starring Daisy Ridley, the Star Wars alum would later reveal that her damsel-in-distress turn for Magpie was so intense during production that she thought her physical ailments surrounding the production must have been tied to the stress. Ridley opened up to Women's Health that she later discovered it was Graves' Disease which was causing said ailments. Speaking to Collider's Steve Weintraub at our early screening of Magpie, which Bateman wrote based on an original story by his wife Daisy Ridley, he not only teased what to expect but also a general idea of when the film would be released.

Star Wars standout Daisy Ridley is back on the big screen this weekend with the release of her new film, Magpie. Written by her husband, Tom Bateman based on an original idea she conceived, the film is described as halfway between a noir and a dark thriller in which she plays a lonely mother whose life has been put on hold by a husband who's entering a relationship with the actress playing their daughter's mother. Next on the docket for her, however, is a project that promises to be even more devastating - We Bury the Dead. The zombie genre film will soon make its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival on November 1, tackling grief through a woman who's searching for her spouse who may or may not still be alive.

The world’s largest college-run film festival, the Scad Savannah film festival, returns to Georgia Oct. 26 with its consistently eclectic programming mix of documentaries, box office hits, indies, animated films, short films and more.

“Scad honors the screen’s brightest stars, from Annette Bening to Lupita Nyong’o to Richard Linklater,” says Scad President and founder Paula Wallace. “Come for the stars and stay for a tour of Scad’s recently expanded Savannah Film Studios backlot… glitz, glamour, and good films.”

This year’s programming includes of Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” and Pablo Larrain’s “Maria” as well as a centerpiece screening of Robbie Williams’ unconventional biopic “Better Man.” The festival will also screen “Emilia Peréz,” Jacques Audiard’s musical drama which won the Jury Prize at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, and a 35mm print of Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” which netted the filmmaker the Silver Lion for directing in Venice earlier this year.

FandomWire: One of my favorite things about Magpie is that it subverts the classic trope of the femme fatale. How do you think the film challenges the audience’s expectations in this way?

Tom Bateman: I’m so glad you picked up on that because it was one of the initial driving forces behind me really loving this idea that Daisy had.

Magpie credits Tom Bateman as its writer, but his wife Daisy Ridley helped him conceive the idea from the get-go, as we recently learned. MovieWeb spoke with Ridley amid the release of their gripping neo-noir and opened up about their hands-on collaborative process through bringing the film to life on the page, including a wildly surprising twist in the third act (no spoilers).
