Since her massive breakout as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, actressDaisy Ridley has taken the opportunity to expand her reach in the industry. She not only headlines major franchise blockbusters but lends her star power to indie projects like 2023's Sometimes I Think About Dying, which she also served as a producer on. Alongside life and creative partner and screenwriter Tom Bateman, the duo also collaborate on original feature ideas like last year's Magpie.

Excursions to a galaxy far, far away aside, Daisy Ridley’s career of late has been refreshingly grounded with projects of all scales. From the modest but fiendishly entertaining domestic thriller “Magpie” to the soulful office dramedy “Sometimes I Think About Dying” and the inspirational sports movie “Young Woman and the Sea,” the wide-ranging filmography Ridley has been recently building on her own terms stretches across biting indies and classical family blockbusters alike.
With director and James Bond veteran Martin Campbell’s “Cleaner,” Ridley further expands her repertoire with an old-fashioned and pressure-cooker action flick, dangling from the glass façade of a skyscraper to give both Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and Bruce Willis’ John McClane a run for their money. In fairness, the tiny pleasures of the predictably paint-by-numbers “Cleaner” aren’t remotely close to anything a white-knuckled “Die Hard” movie or the magnificent “Mission: Impossible” franchise can offer.

Daisy Ridley revealed she hasn't seen The Force Awakens in its entirety since 2015. She recalled how a "surprise screening" revived her desire to rewatch the film.
Daisy Ridley looked back at her Star Wars debut with nostalgia, nine years after The Force Awakens premiere. Speaking with Collider, she said serendipity made her want to revisit the film. "I'd watched [The Force Awakens] maybe three times around the time it came out," she said, "and weirdly it was on at the gym when I was working out. So I saw a bit of it very recently." She didn't confirm the parts she saw but it likely involved her scenes. She's yet to get used to seeing herself in movies but learned how to deal with it. "I feel like I've been able to separate, sort of, watching myself from the film as a whole," she asserted.

Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley are two young stars in the prime of their careers. Holland has been our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man for almost a decade now, while Ridley has been killing it in some small genre gems after headlining Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy wrapped up in 2019. Daisy Ridley addresses behind-the-scenes difficulties while filming her $13 million sci-fi flop co-starring Tom Holland, three years after the movie’s release. Ridley was red-hot in 2021, coming off her performances as the heroic Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its pair of high-grossing sequels. Holland, meanwhile, was equally incandescent after becoming the MCU’s plucky Peter Parker beginning in Captain America: Civil War, and continuing through a series of appearances both in Spider-Man standalone films, and Avengers blockbusters.
Life outside the franchise bubble has been difficult for Ridley and Holland, however, as both young stars have seen their non-Disney projects meet with lukewarm critical and commercial response. I had an initial idea about an actress infiltrating a family, and told Tom and we started developing it.“And he just said he was much more drawn to Anette being the centre of the story. Once he made that decision I was like, ‘Sounds great!’ He just said the story sort of flowed out from there.

The first season of Bad Sisters was an unexpected hit for Apple TV+, earning fans and four Emmy nominations. Now in its sophomore season — a feat not achieved by the Belgian show on which it was based — the darkly comedic mystery is struggling to find its own identity, having problems in its attempt to expand the world while staying in line with what worked about the acclaimed first season.
Bad Sisters Season 2 Review
Season 2 of Bad Sisters picks up years after the Garvey sisters have moved on from the “accidental” death of one sister’s abusive husband, as new evidence — and a new suspicious death — causes the authority to start asking questions again. If this second season of Bad Sisters deserves credit for one thing, it’s that it doesn’t feel like it’s simply re-hashing the same beats that happened in the previous season; however, the new direction...

Magpie, directed by Sam Yeats, is an entertaining, compelling British neo-noir thriller that will frustrate you at first, but it comes with a riveting ending. The film focuses on domestic drama and deceit in marriage. Daisy Ridley is brilliant as Anette, the frustrated wife of an untrustworthy husband. Even though she does not verbally communicate her frustration, her expressions effectively convey her emotions. Shazad Latif is convincing as the deceitful husband Ben. Anette was over the moon when her daughter Matilda was selected to play a role in a film, but it soon turned into her worst nightmare. Her husband Ben started to get obsessed with Matilda’s co-star, Alicia. He started to fantasize about her from the moment he came across a leaked explicit video of her online. It was not just her husband’s obsession with another woman that bothered Anette, but his complete lack of interest in...

The Silence of the Lambs has so many perfect parts. The performances, plot twists, hard-hitting dialogue, shocking violence, feminist themes and those wildly inventive camera angles. Sure, subjective Pov cinematography was done long before Jonathan Demme's Oscar-winning masterpiece, but his clever use of the visual device would go on to inspire other filmmakers for decades. That includes Sam Yates, director of the new neo-noir film Magpie, now playing in select theaters.

Recently, we learned that a planned Star Wars sequel that would follow Rey (Daisy Ridley) after the events of her trilogy was going through some changes behind the scenes: Steven Knight, best known as the creator of the Netflix show Peaky Blinders, was leaving as the movie's screenwriter. And this after celebrated writer Damon Lindelof was "asked to leave" the project a while back. Should we add this to the pile of Star Wars projects Disney has started up and then abandoned, alongside the never-made projects from the likes of Taika Waititi, Kevin Feige, Patty Jenkins, Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss?
Well, star Daisy Ridley is out here doing very light damage control; she was asked about the Rey movie while promoting her new film Magpie and took the opportunity to dispel some rumors, for instance the rumor that losing Knight means the...

Daisy Ridley's latest comments seem to hint the upcoming Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie could well be turning into Episode X. Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, little is known about Rey's return as leader of the New Jedi Order. Ridley was won over by the pitch of director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which she considered refreshing enough to catch her eye. Although there were initial rumors the film would come out in December 2026, that now seems unlikely; James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi is apparently due to begin filming next year, meaning it's more likely to hit that slot.

Rey Skywalker actress Daisy Ridley has teased her return to the Star Wars universe in the upcoming sequel Star Wars: New Jedi Order, which is the first live-action film to feature her character since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, in her most recent comments regarding the upcoming movie, Ridley seemed to hint that New Jedi Order was just the beginning of Rey's next journey, implying the possibility of another trilogy on the horizon.
Details about Star Wars: New Jedi Order have been few and far between which is unsurprising given the rocky status of many Disney projects but while speaking to THR about her most recent film Magpie, Ridley mentioned her anticipation to reprise the Rey Skywalker role. Intriguingly, when referring to the project, Ridley stated, "I feel like the new one/new ones will be so interesting." This phrasing suggests the existence of multiple upcoming films in which Rey appears.

Emotionally intense roles can certainly take their role on actors. Bill Skarsgrd once reported he left like he was losing his mind while portraying Pennywise in the latest adaptation of Stephen King's It, for example. In a more recent thriller starring Daisy Ridley, the Star Wars alum would later reveal that her damsel-in-distress turn for Magpie was so intense during production that she thought her physical ailments surrounding the production must have been tied to the stress. Ridley opened up to Women's Health that she later discovered it was Graves' Disease which was causing said ailments. It says something that she equated the performance with the effects of that disease, and MovieWeb caught up with her more recently to learn about the taxing process of bringing Magpie to life.

Since its announcement earlier this year, Kenneth Branagh's new film has been completely shrouded in mystery outside its cast. The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde has been described as a contemporary psychological thriller and... that's about it. Star Wars standout Daisy Ridley is back on the big screen this weekend with the release of her new film, Magpie. Written by her husband, Tom Bateman based on an original idea she conceived, the film is described as halfway between a noir and a dark thriller in which she plays a lonely mother whose life has been put on hold by a husband who's entering a relationship with the actress playing their daughter's mother. Next on the docket for her, however, is a project that promises to be even more devastating - We Bury the Dead. The zombie genre film will soon make its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival on November 1, tackling grief through a woman who's searching for her spouse who may or may not still be alive.

With the movie having just lost its writer, Daisy Ridley has addressed the rumors of Star Wars: New Jedi Order's 2026 release date. Development on the new film in the Lucasfilm franchise has been underway since late 2022, with Ridley reprising her role of Rey from the sequel trilogy and reports that the story would pick up 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. It's always an intriguing start when a film project launches from the minds of a real-life couple. Magpie credits Tom Bateman as its writer, but his wife Daisy Ridley helped him conceive the idea from the get-go, as we recently learned. MovieWeb spoke with Ridley amid the release of their gripping neo-noir and opened up about their hands-on collaborative process through bringing the film to life on the page, including a wildly surprising twist in the third act (no spoilers).
"Because I was so part of it all, I was really seeing it sort of come together in real time, and I knew what Tom was writing was great, and I knew if we particularly got great people, we would really care about these characters and be invested enough to think, 'What the f*** is going on, and where is it going?'" Ridley told us about creating her new film.

It’s quietly been a stellar year for Daisy Ridley.
She began 2024 with the critically acclaimed offbeat dramedy Sometimes I Think About Dying, only to follow it up with arguably the finest performance of her career as legendary swimmer Gertrude Ederle in Young Woman and the Sea. And she concludes this period of time with her most personal work to date, Magpie, a modern noir that she conceived and produced.
Directed by Sam Yates, the well-received Magpie chronicles the fractured marriage of Annette (Ridley) and Ben (Shazad Latif), all while their young daughter Matilda (Hiba Ahmed) acts in a period piece film. Ben, who volunteered to look after his daughter on set, then becomes infatuated with Alicia Romano (Matilda Lutz), the Italian star who’s playing Matilda’s mom in the fictional film within the film. Ben’s wandering eye is well-known, so Annette must finally decide whether she’s...
