  • A lot of IMDb users here have deeply slammed this thriller, which I don't think is quite deserved... though I do agree that the movie could have been much better done. I will admit that there is not one boring moment in the movie, which is more than you can say for some other movies. And the movie has a good number of twists, turns, and suspenseful moments. However, the eventual payoff is very disappointing, because it doesn't really make all that much sense. Everything in the final few moments is quite rushed, and the more you think about it, you'll realize there are a number of unexplained plot holes. While this bad portion of the movie is only a few minutes long, the fact that it's the way the movie ends will leave you frustrated and make you feel you spent about 80 minutes watching the story only to be cheated. If the screenwriter had spent more time polishing the final few minutes, I really think we would have a sleeper of a thriller. But as it is, it's a failure, albeit one that does have some good moments.
  • Stumbled upon this movie wasn't expecting much. Started off eeegh then I heard have fun with my wife ... my ears perked to see what was to come. A lot of twist and turns but some things over the top or left out. Too many NOE WHY IN HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT OR NOT THAT came into play. I watched it thoroughly like I said not bad but not the greatest yet held my attention though.

This is a movie with promising premise but it's not very well scripted. There're many moments you would find yourself questioning the characters intelligence, decisions and actions while watching the movie. I'm not trying to sound smart here, but when I put myself in the characters' shoes, I just find the scenarios too far-fetched. I won't give out too much, but I would say this for example: when someone has a knife in his hand pointing at you with hostility, would you walk towards him?

There're so many ways to go at each turning point in the story that could make the movie a masterpiece but I feel the writer only wants to play safe. I give 5 star because the movie kept me interested to the end, although overall it's not very satisfying.
  • Both my wife and I were stuck finding anything we fancied watching we gave this a go as we'd pretty much seen most of the high scoring movies. Expectation for this movie was very low but it was actually watchable it had lot of twists and turns and I thought the story and acting was decent.

We Both scored this a 5 as it was entertaining in parts.

    Average!

An Affair to Die for is one of the lower rated movies I've seen in a while. It doesn't deserve the bad reviews it's gotten; it's your standard thriller mystery but it's not bad by any means, it's about average.

The story follows Holly, a woman who is in an adulterous relationship with Everett, who is also cheating on his spouse. Now, Everett is forced to lie and keep Holly in their hotel room for the sake of his family.

I don't wanna give away the plot too much, you'll just have to watch the movie to find out. I saw Meet Joe Black a short while ago, and I'm glad to say that Claire Forlani can still bring her A-game. Jake Abel still does a good job as usual. There are twists and turns, and while some were obvious, they still helped the story along. Overall, a simple, standard thriller mystery movie, with good acting. twists and direction. I'd recommend it. Give it a see.
  • Still not exactly sure how this all played out the way it did, but it passed the time..... 3.7
  • I am surprised by the low ratings and the bad reviews it got. After watching An Affair To Die For I think this movie clearly deserves a higher rating. To me it was an entertaining movie, a story with alot of twists and turns, some that you see coming and some that you don't, but overal there is a constant suspense hanging throughout the movie. I doubt this could happen in real life but that doesn't matter to me. When I watch a movie like this one I want to be entertained, and that's exactly what I got, entertainment. The acting was okay expect for Claire Forlani. She just doesn't have it to be a good actress so that was the minor point to me. A good little thriller worth watching.
  • Warning: Spoilers
The best part is her arrival at the luxury hotel. Forlani looks great and there are some subtle shots at people having affairs and how they act. Unfortunately the first three minutes go by and they start whatever it is they call this. I mean this is terrible. The setting and plot are both ludicrous with some all knowing all powerful off screen voice pulling the strings on these two people acting like idiots. Saying the movie is stupid would be kind.
  • It was an entertaining film and fun to watch, though not the best acting, and a tad predictable.
  • So many ways this movie could've been made better, not the least of which would have been some sort of resolution, but no, the film makers evidently were told to simply fill some footage with just enough story to hold viewers' interest enough to instill hope that something interesting would happen. No such luck. Netflix is really scraping the bottom of the barrel hard here. If you decide not to take my advice and you begin watching this crap, remember it ends unresolved in every way. You've been warned!
  • This could have been a mini series. Very well done. Had a "The Sinner" feel to it the entire time, and in a good way. Would have loved more backstory on each character. So much angst every single minute. Hard to write a review without giving anything away. Watch this movie!
  • I was hooked instantly by the title and description. Once the movie got going the suspense kept me watching. The ending was a little weak but it was an enjoyable film!
  • Warning: Spoilers
This would have been a classic if Russ had gotten up out of the wheelchair at the end like Saw 1. And leave Lydia and the daughter's text completely out of the ending. The ending just got all messed up.

    Warning: Spoilers
This movie held my interest until the end. I guess I was hoping for it to redeem itself, it didn't.

This movie was absolute cheeks. The main woman rubbed me the wrong way. She's cheating on her husband, who's also a retired surveillance cop? She never thought to bring this up to the guy she's having an affair with...strike one (not realistic).

Her husband calls her, tells her he knows about the affair, but that she's in danger, Everett is a "dangerous man"...literally, this was so lazily written and explained, it was so trash. What made it even more trash is that she immediately believes her husband, an ex surveillance coo who knows she cheating, about her mister being a "dangerous man"...strike two.

The ending was completely nonsensical, and did nothing to close out the story. The main woman, Holly, is more so the villain of the story.

I don't know, congrats on getting it made, but the script for this and some of the acting? Wack. It played like a bad soap opera.
  • Performances were above par but it was more of an afternoon movie that you'd catch on terrestrial TV. Not many tense moments and pretty much predictable.

    Bilge
Clearly a showcase for Forlani who, unfortunately, cannot act, merely pout, this film is a total waste of time. I had to keep fast-forwarding before the ennui rendered me unconscious. Pure and utter bilge.

Filming took 17 days..that says it all, could have been better if it was more thought out..

    Warning: Spoilers
What is Titus Welliver, coming off Bosch, doing in this turkey?

It's not only bad, it's empty, a complete waste of time, talent, setting, lighting, even the music.

A woman arrives at a luxury hotel, is shown to a gorgeous suite, and while waiting for her companion, finds cutesy notes, sexy underwear, a mask and even handcuffs for an obviously well planned romantic weekend. But it soon turns ugly, and we then discover that she is one half of an illicit affair, and that her husband, who is "into surveillance" knows about it. He has kidnapped the lover, threatened his family, and for reasons never explained, insists the lover continue the weekend without letting his wife know that he's onto her. At the same time he phones his wife and tells her the lover is a serial killer. It's all so silly that the twist at the end shouldn't come as a surprise....and it really doesn't.

What has happened to writing? Does no one recognize or demand quality any longer, thereby allowing a script like this to actually be produced? One that has no real suspense, no character development, and no point....unless it is "don't cheat" which as a message has been done far and away better in other films. The rating of two points is only for the hotel suite, which was nice.

Skip this trash.....even if it does have Titus Welliver. What was he thinking?
  • Good little indie flick. Definitely low budget but has some nice dynamics going for it. It's short which helps because the plot is 1 dimensional. There's nothing else but the primary. Acting was okay. Will give it a B-. Enjoy :)
  • Warning: Spoilers
Holly Pierpoint (Claire Forlani) is an instructor who has a boring and predictable marriage to her much older husband Russell (Titus Welliver). She goes to Aspen to rendezvous with Everett Alan (Jake Abel) a younger student who is also married. Shortly after arriving it becomes clear Russell knows about the event and is controlling the action to create doubt and terror.

Of course, the film has its twist which didn't excite me. The film is mostly two people in one room taking directions. Although this has twice as many people in a room than say, "1408," it wasn't half as good.

    Guide: F-word. Sex. partial nudity.
  • It had places that didn't make sense but I thought the ending was pretty good. I won't bore you with a long critique.

Decent start to film but tried to be too clever for its own good about halfway through hence the ending was confusing

Claire Forlani looked stunning though and was the best acting wise too

    Warning: Spoilers
I guess I've seen worse but this movie was pretty bad. It at least could have given some resolution at the end to make up for its awfulness, but we don't even get that satisfaction. Everyone comes to a bad end; there are no good characters and you have to wonder what happens to the surviving kids -- innocent victims, every parent but one dead and no doubt the one survival of this stabbing/head-smashing/tongue and finger amputation nightmare in jail for life. That is if by the end of the film you bother to think of anybody at all, just glad the mess is over. I would think that most people when they watch a movie like this do not want it to be totally amoral but that is what it is. Virtually everyone (except the hotel staff and the cops) is bad, vengeful, ready to kill each other at the drop of a hat - so no particular sympathy garnered for anyone, making this quite pointless in a way. Don't wast your time like I did.
