In January, it was announced that writer-director M Night Shyamalan and novelist Nicholas Sparks are to collaborate on a somewhat unusual cross-media project. Shyamalan, the story went, will write the screenplay while Sparks will write the novel; little was announced about the venture at the time, though it was reported that Jake Gyllenhaal is to star in Shyamalan’s movie and that both the book and the film would be based on the same ‘original love story.’

A few months ago, it was announced that The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan and The Notebook author Nicholas Sparks were teaming up for a supernatural romantic thriller. Shyamalan and Sparks created the original story together, with Shyamalan going off to write a screenplay based on the story while Sparks turned the idea into a novel. As was said at the time, “Both will be based on the same concept and set of characters but designed for their individual mediums.” Now, Shyamalan has revealed that the Sparks novel is called Remain and is scheduled to reach store shelves on October 7th.

People Magazine got an exclusive sneak peek at the duo's work. First up is the novel Remain, co-created by Sparks and Shyamalan. According to the outlet, Remain follows Tate Donovan, a New York architect recovering from a recent stay in a psychiatric facility after the loss of his sister.

Tate prepares to stay in Cape Cod and design a summer home for his best friend, and that's when he meets a woman who makes him question everything he thought he knew about the world. Remain will be published by Random House and released this fall.

VFX artists recently examined Ridley Scott's Prometheus film and discussed Scott's decision to go for a more realistic approach in a pivotal scene. The film originally saw one character mutating into a CGI-heavy monster.

Set in the Alien franchise, 2012's Prometheus starred Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron as the crew of the film's titular spaceship as they search for the origins of humanity and arrive on a distant world. In a recent episode of Corridor Crew's VFX Artists React to Bad & Great CGi on YouTube, Prometheus was examined alongside some of Scott's other Alien films. A version of the scene where Fifield (Sean Harris) returns to the Prometheus in a monstrous and mutated form was originally made with much more CGI, which Scott removed in post-production.

Disney+'s The Mandalorian has become one of the streaming service's most popular original shows, bringing much attention to the world of Mandalore and its people. However, this isn't the first time fans have seen their world, as other Star Wars media explored the group and other Mandalorian characters before the show's release.

There are various Mandalorian clans scattered throughout the galaxy, many of which were eventually consolidated into three separate houses: Vizsla, Kast, and Kryze. The couple later suffered a pregnancy loss with son Jack, their third child, in September 2020.

As per ‘People’, the family then welcomed daughter Esti earlier this year on January 13.

Thanks to Ahsoka's impressive cast of lightsaber-wielding characters with heroes such as the titular Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and her apprentice Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), there are plenty of clashing lightsabers throughout. Likewise, the show features a strong trio of dark-side villains armed with lightsabers and more such as Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto), as well as the mysterious and helmeted Inquisitor known as Marrok.

Ahsoka takes place during the New Republic era. This means that the forces dark forces at play are not Sith in the conventional sense (despite the presence of lightsabers). In a similar vein, Ahsoka is a former Jedi struggling with her past while training Sabine to become a Jedi, herself a Mandalorian with her own challenging past.

Wren Pepper is in a pickle in screenwriter/director Jennifer Cram’s debut feature Sick Girl. Wren’s friends are quick to rally around her as she moves through her cancer journey. Unfortunately, Wren doesn’t really have cancer. She told a little white lie that suddenly morphed into a very big problem that just won’t go away.

What propelled Wren to tell that lie may be something most people can relate too, but nobody would actually admit to having cancer if it wasn’t true. That offbeat premise works in Sick Girl mostly because Cram doesn’t want the audience to sympathize with Wren, played by Nina Dobrev. The fun is in watching Wren writhe in guilt and shame. The result produces a middle-ground comedy that’s good for some escapist fun yet never fully reaches the high points you want it to.

If you are going to do a so-called “hilarious” comedy dealing with cancer you better know how to do it. Unfortunately, writer/director Jennifer Cram, for her first feature film in those jobs, does not knock it out of the park.

Sick Girl which stars Nina Dobrev as Wren, a bit of a mess of a 30ish woman whose spur-of-the-moment little white lie about having cancer spirals out of control, would need a satirist along the lines of an Adam McKay to actually pull off this misbegotten comedy which is simply more cringe-inducing than funny, and Cram, whose previous work has been in Casting just can’t find the right tone to make it work. The Australian show Surviving Summer is a wildcard entry for teen shows on Ott platforms.
