Rhye, "Woman" (Innovate Leisure/Loma Vista)
The definition of Rhye: the electronic Sade.
Rhye, the new duo made up of musicians Mike Milosh and Robin Hannibal, channel the veteran soul singer on their debut, "Woman." The album is full of smooth and soothing vocals on top of beats that are dreamy and dance-y. The 10-track set is electronic-flavored silky R&B and plays like a warm jazz session, as Milosh sings softly about love and life. He kind of sounds like a lady. And we love it.
Rhye's sound also echoes Quadron, another duo where Danish-based Hannibal works as producer and vocalist Coco O. is front and center.
It's hard to resist "Woman," especially songs like "Last Dance," which is both bold and jamming with lyrics like: "Tell me lies and lullabies, but don't tell me to change."
This here is a winner.

The Grammys are just a week away, and I feel that justifies an exploration of one of my favorite topics: wonderful music from god-awful movies. Here are my 10 favorite tunes specifically produced for the soundtracks of wretched movies.
10. Michelle Pfeiffer, "Cool Rider" from Grease 2
Grease 2 is a confounding mess from start to finish, but it's a complete blast if you're into campy singalong experiences. The movie's best tune is undoubtedly the brassy, kicky "Cool Rider" where The Greatest Catwoman croons like Benatar over a rip-roaring pop hook. It's damn replayable, which is something not often said about Grease 2.
9. Alanis Morissette, "Uninvited" from City of Angels
City of Angels is one of those infuriating movies that dares to take its ridiculous melodrama seriously. It's a feature-length Creed video. Thankfully its soundtrack was a rightful blockbuster featuring original tracks by U2 and -- perhaps most famously -- the Goo Goo Dolls,...

Quincy Jones, Rush, Heart, Public Enemy, Randy Newman, producer-songwriter Lou Adler, blues guitarist Albert King and Donna Summer are the latest heavy hitters to make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame roster. And while there's no doubt about their influence on music, they've also made lasting impressions on film. The group has collectively earned four Oscars, inspired celluloid bromance shenanigans, written and performed movie songs and scores, and wholeheartedly embraced unconventional material. Seriously, who knew Adler produced "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and Robert Altman's "Brewster McCloud?” Or that Donna Summer's hit song "Last Dance" won an Oscar for "Thank God It's Friday" of all movies?!? Or that Public Enemy's Chuck D. co-starred in a film in which Harvey Weinstein plays a private detective? Now that's the indie spirit! The X Factor featured some of its best performances ever with Carly Rose Sonenclar winning the judges' hearts with Celion Dion's My Heart Will Go On. Another judge favorite was Jennel Garcia who 'nailed it' with her rendition of Tina Turner's Rolling On A River. Other performances included last week's favorite Tate Stevens singing From This Moment, Diamond White performing her version of Beyonce's Halo and a not so judge favorite Beatrice Miller singing Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time. Lyric 145 sang Queen's We Will Rock You, Arin Rey performed Crazy For You by Madonna, Paige Thomas sang Donna Summer's hit song Last Dance and Fifth Harmony wowed the judges with Mariah Carey's Hero. Rounding out the 12 performances, was Vino Allen singing Tina Turner's Lets Stay Together, Emblem 3 singing Alicia Keys' No One and Cece Frey singing All By Myself Are you...

The X Factor's Top 12 performed for America's vote on Wednesday night. Who did enough to secure a spot in the next round? Who will be heading home on Thursday night?
Read along for our take, and then vote for your favorite in our poll...
Jennel Garcia: (Proud Mary) I couldn't disagree with the judges more on this one. I thought she said she was really into dance. Why didn't she dance at all in that performance? Just running around on stage isn't dancing. That running around did however cause her not be able to do anything vocally. This was a very run of the mill rendition of a song that isn't all that great for a singing competition to begin with.
Grade: D+
Tate Stevens: (From this Moment) This was a very decent duet with whoever was singing that background vocal. I have to say this about Tate,...

Paul Fenech comedy Housos Vs. Authority has grossed $554,003 on its opening weekend at cinemas.
Housos Vs. Authority, inspired by Sbs TV series Housos, follows Franky, Shazza, Dazza and their mates as they attempt to sprinkle Shazza's mum's ashes on top of Australia's most famous icon. The film, distributed by Paramount and Transmission Films, opened on 151 screens, giving it a screen average of $3485.
The performance is far shy of Fat Pizza, Fenech's last feature film comedy which grossed $1.16 million on its opening weekend in April 2003. That film, distributed by Roadshow, was based on the successful Sbs series Pizza and went on to gross $3.65 million at the box office.
Meanwhile, Australian documentary Paul Kelly: Stories of Me continued to perform well. It lifted 48 per cent in its third weekend, taking $139,241 across seven screens. It is likely to become the second Australian documentary to enter the top 10 box office list alongside Storm Surfers 3D.

It is a big day for the divas as they all land in New Orleans for Essence Fest. This is also the season finale of R&B Divas, which I was not at all emotionally prepared for. It’s a beautiful finale though, because it’s filled with all the best qualities that characterize this show: music, sisterhood, and triumph. Even Nicci was happy! Of course, there was some drama and cursing and crying, too — there was a lot of cursing — but I think most of that had to do with the fact that they were in New Orleans and when you’re in New Orleans it’s hard not to be drizunk most of the time.
Indeed, as soon as they’re in town, after an awkward obvious promo for a service called Black Atlas (guess what, this episode was brought to you by Black Atlas!

Justin Bieber is likely to win Best Male Video for a second year in a row. If he prevails as predicted for "Boyfriend," Bieber would become the fifth artist in the twenty-eight year history of the VMAs to win this category twice. The two-time champs to date are: Tom Petty (“Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” 1994; “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” 1995); Beck (“Where It’s At,”1996; “Devil’s Haircut,” 1997); Will Smith (“Just The Two of Us," 1998; “Miami," 1999) and Justin Timberlake (“Cry Me a River,” 2003 and in 2007 when no specific videos were cited). In this era of social media, Justin Bieber is one of the dominant forces. If music does not dramatically change course next year, he will likely return to this category for his latest video “As Long As You Love” starring Michael Madsen. It will be interesting to...

An Australian film based on the real lives of its two lead actors has won The Age Critics’ Award at the Melbourne International Film Festival.
Selected by a panel of film critics, the award now in its second year, is for the best Australian feature film at Miff.
Amiel Courtin-Wilson’s first feature film Hail took the prize against a program that included The Sapphires, Dead Europe, Last Dance, Save Your Legs! 100 Bloody Acres, Errors of the Human Body and Jack Irish: Bad Debts.
Hail is about Dan, who on losing his love is reduced to savagery and violence. A mix of fact and fiction the story is based on lead actor Daniel Jones’ real life as an ex-con. Jones stars alongside real-life partner Leanne Letch.
Jones was the subject of Cicada, a short film by Courtin-Wilson.

How many ways are there to dispose of your body once you've passed on? Burial, cremation, cryogenics... plastination? Yeah, that's a new one for me too.
I've heard of donating one's body to science but giving it to a Body View science/art exhibit is certainly unique. "Last Dance" featured Henry Strauss hoping his body would have just that, one last dance. Even if he was no longer using it.
I loved Peter's reaction when he realized that all of the models he was looking at weren't mannequins but actual bodies that had been plasticized. Even better was Jared's mental countdown as he waited for the reality to sink in.
One of the things that sells Franklin & Bash is that they actually care about their clients. It's not just about the win and that's what makes all of their crazy antics even remotely believable. Plus, these boys are just too darn cute.

Duets is a little like the lamb chop I had for dinner last night: Perfectly lovely summer weeknight fare, but with tiny morsels that get stuck in your teeth and drive you loopy hours after the meal is over.
Central to the show’s irksomeness is the wretched/”secret” scoring system where the three judges not on stage anonymously enter not one, but two scores for the fourth judge’s amateur partner — is it my imagination, or was the announcement of separate scores for “performance” and “presentation” a new development in the show’s ongoing, haphazard evolution? The theme for this week's "Duets" is Party Songs, which ... should prove interesting, since those don't tend to have much harmony going on.
One more finalist is going home this week, which means we get another a capella sing-off and then the group is whittled down to six. Unless Olivia Chisholm really steps it up this week, she's our vote to leave.
1. Kelly and Jason, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," Rolling Stones
Jason has such nice tone, we hope he can pull one out this week. When they start, he's a little thin, but he ramps it up pretty quickly and it's better, but then he starts verse two and it's thin again. It's like he needs Kelly for confidence, because he's pretty weak without her. And when she sings alone, she draws attention to how weak he was because she's so awesome. Hmph. Definitely better than last week, especially his stage presence,...

This story first appeared in the June 1 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. Watching the news on May 17, I realized everyone has a story about a Donna Summer song. "I was three in the backseat of my mother's car when 'Love to Love You' came on," recalled one anchor. Others were reminded of "Bad Girls," "Last Dance," "Enough Is Enough," "I Feel Love" and "She Works Hard for the Money." My thoughts went to "White Christmas." The year was 1975. My husband-to-be, Neil, was running Casablanca Records and had signed

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards (TV) were held on Sunday night, as music's biggest stars gathered at The MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas to celebrate the year's chart-topping achievements and pay tribute to some of their own. The show opened with a performance by electro-pop duo Lmfao and was hosted by Modern Family (TV)'s Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen. Adele was the top winner of the evening, scoring a total of 12 awards including Top Female Artist - though you'd never know it by watching the telecast. As is becoming more and more common, the majority of awards are not even handed out during the show in an effort to make room for more live performances. Lmfao ended up winning the second-highest amount of awards with six, and Lil Wayne and Cold Play each earned four. After a moment of silence to honor the passing of Bee Gees' singer Robin Gibb,...

London (AP) -- With his carefully tended hair, tight trousers and perfect harmonies, Robin Gibb, along with his brothers Maurice and Barry, defined the disco era. As part of the Bee Gees - short for the Brothers Gibb - they created dance floor classics like "Stayin Alive," `'Jive Talkin'," and "Night Fever" that can still get crowds onto a dance floor. The catchy songs, with their falsetto vocals and relentless beat, are familiar pop culture mainstays. There are more than 6,000 cover versions of the Bee Gees hits, and they are still heard on dance floors and at wedding receptions, birthday parties, and other festive occasions.Robin Gibb, 62, died Sunday "following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery," his family announced in a statement released by Gibb's representative Doug Wright.Gibb was the second disco-era star to die this week. It was a night of tributes at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday. The evening's most emotional moment came during a tribute to the late Whitney Houston. While Jordin Sparks performed the singer's iconic hit "I Will Always Love You," Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, broke down in tears before taking the stage to accept the Millennium Award on her mom's behalf. "I really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all," said Brown, who stood alongside Whitney's manager and sister-in-law Patricia Houston. "Not just from when it was good but when it was bad,...

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards "honored" the late singer Donna Summer, who passed away three days ago from lung cancer. And we say "honored" because it felt like they decided to squeeze it into the show about 10 minutes before it happened.
Singer Natasha Bedingfield took the stage and had to introduce herself, as she was the one doing the "tribute." She also was stumbling over her intro, though maybe there was a teleprompter problem.
Bedingfield started to sing "Last Dance," Summer's 1978 disco hit that is a great tribute song, while photographs of Donna played behind Bedingfield on a screen. So that was fine - but then just as Bedingfield got the fun, fast part, the show cut away to promote a tribute to Taylor Swift and then cut to commercial.
Well done, show. A Billboard Music Tribute: When you care enough to send the very best. Seriously, we know she just died three days ago,...

"Spotify the News" is a new HuffPost feature designed to translate the week's big headlines into a weekend-worthy playlist featuring classic hits, unfairly overlooked obscurities and a good deal of what's in between.
Well, "Today Is The Day" we've been waiting for -- the big Facebook I.P.O.! Will Mark Zuckerberg remember to say "Thank You Friends" when he tallies up his zillion-dollar haul, or is the social network saddled with an "Ungrateful Little Father"? Certainly, the company's earliest investors have to be crowing, "We Are the Champions" -- it's "A Beautiful Day" for Bono of U2, who stands to make $1.2 billion from his chunk of Facebook, and even Eduardo Saverin must be singin' in "Singapore."
The news wasn't nearly as good for Jp Morgan Chase C.E.O. Jamie Dimon, who went from Wall Street's "Last Man Standing" to America's favorite "Whipping Boy" after his firm lost $3 billion in one fell swoop.

-- Like the King of Pop or the Queen of Soul, Donna Summer was bestowed a title fitting of musical royalty – the Queen of Disco.
Yet unlike Michael Jackson or Aretha Franklin, it was a designation she wasn't comfortable embracing.
"I grew up on rock `n' roll," Summer once said when explaining her reluctance to claim the title.
Indeed, as disco boomed then crashed in a single decade in the 1970s, Summer, the beautiful voice and face of the genre with pulsating hits like "I Feel Love," "Love to Love You Baby" and "Last Dance," would continue to make hits incorporating the rock roots she so loved. One of her biggest hits, "She Works Hard for the Money," came in the early 1980s and relied on a smoldering guitar solo as well as Summer's booming voice.

Donna Summer left behind a legacy as the queen of '70s disco when she sadly passed away after a battle with lung cancer on May 17, and American Idol judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler tell HollywoodLife.com how she changed the game when she came onto the music scene! "Being a Rock & Roller when that kind of music came along, we felt threatened," Steven said. "And when she came out and did her thing, she made it be Ok. She was the focal point of that era, we are going to miss her so so much!" Randy, who was a friend of Donna's, said today's biggest pop stars should be inspired by the woman who...

Goodbye to disco queen Donna Summer who died yesterday at 63 of cancer. She was one of the rare through lines in popular music of the 70s and 80s -- doesn't it seem like disco had its inordinate share of one hit wonders? But not Donna. Hit after hit and her voice defined the era: I Feel Love, Macarthur Park, Love to Love Ya Baby, No More Tears (Enough is Enough) and so on...

Following the sad news on Thursday that disco legend Donna Summer lost her battle with cancer, celebrity fans have expressed their appreciation for the singer. "So shocking to hear about the passing of Donna Summer," Aretha Franklin said in a statement. "In the '70s, she reigned over the disco era and kept the disco jumping. Who will forget, 'Last Dance?' [She was] a fine performer and a very nice person." Barbra Streisand said she was "shocked" to hear about the death of Summer, 63, who never let on to the public that she was so sick. Singer Donna Summer, who died of cancer at age 63 earlier today, was featured in only one movie: Robert Klane’s Thank God It’s Friday. The unpretentious 1978 disco comedy musical is chiefly notable for the Paul Jabara-written song "Last Dance" — one of Summer’s biggest hits — which earned the Best Original Song Academy Award. Donna Summer songs, however, have been featured in a number of movies, ranging from Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle to Ron Howard’s Oscar-nominated Frost/Nixon. Among Summer’s best-known songs are "MacArthur’s Park," "On the Radio," "She Works Hard for the Money," and "Bad Girls." The lesser known "Down Deep Inside," which Summer co-wrote with John Barry, was a Golden Globe nominee in 1977, as it was featured in Peter Yates’ box-office hit The Deep. Donna Summer’s stardom faded in the ’80s, following the demise of the disco vogue and reports that the...

“Last Dance” was a tough song to dance to. The Donna Summer smash started slow, so if a boy asked you do dance to it, the request felt way more significant than if he asked you to dance to a fast song. But then it transitioned into a fast song, so you and your partner had to know how to navigate the switch from slow to fast. And if you weren’t fond enough of each other to actually slow dance together through the opening you just had to awkwardly sway separately through that part until the fast part came in. I...

Disco icon Donna Summer passed away today from cancer at the age of 63. To be honest, we feel slightly inadequate attempting to properly eulogize someone whose career largely predated our upbringing (save for the occasional “Last Dance” karaoke butchering in our adult lifetime), so instead, here’s our personal favorite Donna Summer-related moment. Here’s Homer Simpson singing “She Works Hard For The Money” using a tape-recorder-robot to successfully get out of a day of work. Apologies for the poor video quality, but I was ecstatic this was on the internet at all: Rip, Donna Summer – thanks for the hits, and Homer thanks you for the flawlessly-executed day off. You can watch a higher-quality (and Waaaay stranger) Spanish version after the jump:...

With lyrics reading, "When you're laying so close to me/There's no place I'd rather you be than with me/I love to love you, baby/Do it to me again and again," we can understand why Gregg feels that way. With a soulful voice Summer crooned the lyrics among whispers and moans in the background to create a song that has the power to make any man blush.
