I don’t know if Dark Horse is actually trying to adapt every last bit of short Neil Gaiman into comics form. He’s written a lot of stuff, and much of it wouldn’t adapt well. But it does feel like they’re trying, at least, with a long sequence of individual graphic novels and a few omnibuses stretching back more than a decade.
The grandly titled “Neil Gaiman Library” has mostly been stories that can turn into reasonable-length books. I’ve seen a bunch of them: A Study in Emerald ; Only the End of the World Again ; Chivalry ; Snow, Glass, Apples ; and Troll Bridge . But not all Gaiman stories can be fit into that length, no matter how hard Procrustes works.
So in 2019 we got The Problem of Susan and Other Stories , which includes adaptations of the title story, another short story, and two poems. Presumably, with this as a model,...

"If you're born in this town, you're cursed." MGM has unveiled an official trailer for a horror movie called Dark Harvest, the latest film project from horror filmmaker David Slade. This was originally set to open in 2022, but was delayed and now the studio is dumping it direct-to-vod to watch at home starting in October during Halloween season. A legendary monster called October Boy terrorizes residents in a small Midwestern town when he rises from the cornfields every Halloween with his butcher knife and makes his way toward those brave enough to confront him. “Upload” Season 3 is now loading, and will be here soon. The Greg Daniels series has officially revealed that it will return to Prime Video this October — and it’s bringing twice as much Robbie Amell.
When last we left Nathan (Amell) and Nora (Andy Allo), they were finally, blissfully together, in the actual real world. With help from Ingrid (Allegra Edwards), Nathan was downloaded into a new body, effectively bringing him back to life — for now.
In the final moments of the Season 2 finale, Nathan’s nose began to bleed, which is typically the first sign that a download is failing, and his head will quite literally explode. So, in Season 3, the show is set to pick back up with Nathan and Nora racing the clock, hoping to save not only Nathan, but everyone who is threatened by Freeyond.
Meanwhile, back in Lakeview, a backup copy of Nathan has been activated,...

In contrast to his more low-key output such as Piku and October, Shoojit Sircar’s new biopic takes on an epic subject: it retells the life of Udham Singh, an indelible figure in the Indian independence movement. While most famous for his headline-making assassination of Michael O’Dwyer, a former governor of Punjab who oversaw the horrific 1919 Amritsar massacre, Singh remains something of a historical question mark and many of his biographical details are wrapped in mystery.
Reflecting such ambiguities, the film jumps across continents and timelines as it attempts to illustrate Singh’s arduous journey from his upbringing in an orphanage in Punjab to his final days as a political martyr in London. Scotland Yard’s investigation of the assassination takes up most of the running time, during which Singh...

The Notebook Primer introduces readers to some of the most important figures, films, genres, and movements in film history. The Battle of AlgiersCommenting on the role of cinema in his native Cuba, director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea once wrote that films should not just add to people’s enjoyment of life, but also “contribute in the most effective way possible to elevating [their] revolutionary consciousness.” Gutiérrez Alea was writing in 1982 (the words are cribbed from his essay “The Viewer’s Dialectic”), over twenty years since Fidel Castro ousted Fulgencio Batista and brought an end to the US-backed dictatorship in the island. But the idea that cinema can serve a higher function that mere entertainment—the belief that films should both educate and agitate spectators—is as old as the medium itself. Lenin once called cinema “the most important of all the arts;” Trotsky “a weapon for collective education.” For Bolivian director Jorge Sanjinés,...

Sean Connery, one of the truly iconic actors of Hollywood, died overnight in the Bahamas at the age of 90. No cause of death was announced.
The Scottish actor’s career spanned five-decades in which he played a wide range of unforgettable characters, many of them iconic on their own. But he will always be known as the first, best and most recognizable actor to play the British Spy with the license to kill, James Bond. He played Agent 007 in seven movies, beginning with the first James Bond movie Dr. No in 1962.
But Connery was no mere espionage agent, and he certainly wasn’t secret. Connery starred opposite Tippi Hedren in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1964 film Marnie. He stood out in a crowded all-star cast in Murder on the Orient Express from 1974. He escaped Alcatraz in The Rock (1996), defected to the United States in The Hunt for Red October, saved the day...

This article features Borat Subsequent Moviefilm spoilers.
Like many, I admit I was skeptical upon hearing the news that Sacha Baron Cohen was making Borat 2, and during the Covid-19 pandemic, no less. But less than a month later, and a handful of days before its Amazon Prime premiere, I stand corrected. It seems Borat is the exact kind of October Surprise we need this election year… or at least the one we deserve. Look no further than details about Rudy Giuliani lying in a bed with his hands allegedly near his crotch.
As revealed in a report filed in The Daily Beast, late in the film Baron Cohen’s Borat and his daughter Tutar, played by Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova, attempt to seduce Giuliani. Why? Because Borat dreams of marrying his daughter to someone inside President Donald Trump’s inner circle. “Rudolph was Donald’s best buddy in the whole world,...

S&P Global Ratings on Friday downgraded movie theater chain AMC Entertainment’s credit rating to Ccc- from Ccc+, putting the chain’s borrowing power in junk territory and suggesting it’s at risk of imminent default with little prospect for recovery. Exhibitors have continued to struggle as Hollywood studios haven’t been able to entice audiences to flock back to cinemas amid the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic. Warner Bros., Universal and Disney recently pushed the releases of expected fall blockbusters to next year following a tepid turnout for Warner Bros.’ “Tenet,” which many hoped would help reignite the box office. Approximately 70% of theaters nationwide have reopened since the end of August, but a combination of a lack of several strong titles and fears of contracting Covid-19 has kept audiences away. “Tenet” led the September box office charts this past month with just $41.2 million, and overall business for the month dropped 78% year-over-year.

The release of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” and the subsequent reopening of American movie theaters did not provide the cinema industry with the kind of rebound it had hoped. Now, with a threadbare October release slate ahead and the prospect of a second wave of pandemic spread that could slow or roll back theater openings, some very difficult decisions await cinemas trying to manage operating costs. “October is going to face noticeable regression,” Boxoffice analyst Shawn Robbins warned. “The industry is facing a perfect storm of studios wary to release or market major films, and governments struggling to balance containing the virus, conveying consumer safety and preserving the economy.” Approximately 70% of theaters nationwide have reopened since the end of August, but a combination of a lack of several strong titles and fears of contracting Covid-19 has kept audiences away. “Tenet” led the September box office charts this past month with just $41.2 million,...

June 2020 is set to be a big month for the whole streaming Disney family. Not only will ESPN+ have the entirety of The Last Dance on its servers for late-adopting sports fans to catch up with, but Disney+ will be premiering its long-awaited Artemis Fowl film. Over on its biggest streaming service in Hulu, however, Disney is taking things a bit more slowly.
This month finds only three major original releases for Hulu. Animated medieval comedy Crossing Swords premieres on June 12, then Ya love story Love Victor and cooking show Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi both arrive on June 19. All in all, that’s not a bad haul for originals for the typically slow summer months.
June 1 sees a pretty impressive crop of movies coming to Hulu’s library as well. October Sky, The X-Files (1998), and Casino will all be ready to stream at the beginning of the month.

Netflix is usually the good guy when it comes to saving shows. For example, they picked up Lucifer after it was cancelled by Fox and even if their original content has a rough first season, they’ll often give it a second to see if it picks up a fanbase or improves. That said, they’re not always a soft touch: the critically acclaimed yet little-watched Marianne didn’t get a second season, so they do have limits. Now, it seems they’re bringing down the hammer once again, as vampire sci-fi V-Wars and supernatural drama October Faction just got cancelled.
While Netflix generally doesn’t release viewing figures to the public, neither show was received particularly well by critics. So we can probably assume that the audience wasn’t what the network had hoped for. Even so, these shows had fans and they’re not happy at the news,...

Netflix’s latest cancelations have instigated an armistice for V-Wars and a break-up for October Faction.
The two monster genre television shows, each one an adaptation of an Idw comic book title, have been officially canceled in one fell swoop by the streaming giant, according to THR. The move occurs shortly after Netflix issued a second season renewal for its other Idw adaptation, the formerly-beleaguered Locke & Key. It’s a move that was clearly made in light of a shifting industry schedule landscape ravaged by the coronavirus, leading to more focused priorities for the formerly spendthrift streamer.
V-Wars is arguably the more surprising of the two cancelations, seeing as the sci-fi/horror series—which operated under the purview of showrunners William Laurin and Glenn Davis—was seemingly designed to cater to a built-in fanbase, tapping Ian Somerhalder, former star of The CW’s longtime franchise-spawning hit, The Vampire Diaries, as...

Two of Netflix’s freshman drama series will not see a second season. The streaming giant has canceled vampire drama series V Wars starring Ian Somerhalder, based on Jonathan Maberry’s bestselling book, and October Faction, based on the Idw comics by Steve Niles, Deadline has confirmed.
V Wars, published in 2012 by Idw Publishing, debuted as a collection of prose stories that chronicles the first Vampire War. Somerhalder starred as Dr. Luther Swann, who enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne, into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these “vampires.” Swann races against time to understand what’s happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires.

My Opinion: 3.2 out of 5 – This turned out pretty well.

Sony seem determined to establish their own comic book franchise that exists adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, buoyed by the fact that Venom earned over $850 million at the box office, and also that the studio reportedly now have the option to include Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in their movies as part of their recently re-negotiated agreement with Marvel Studios.
The first trailer for this summer’s Morbius only increased the speculation that the two former rivals were working closer together than ever before, with Michael Keaton’s Vulture showing up at the end of the promo to the surprise of almost everyone, not to mention the other overt references to Spider-Man that were also spotted.

The actor looks quite dashing donning the leather jacket, denim jeans and brown shoes. The other picture shows the film’s leading lady, debutante Banita Sandhu, posing lovingly.
