The famous Pirelli Calendar has gone through many iterations since it debuted in 1964. The calendar originally began as a means of setting the tire company apart from their competition with a project that enlisted the best artists, photographers, and models of the era. Pirelli really began to make waves, however, as their annual publication became synonymous with pinup girls and nude photo shoots, but in recent years it has made an abrupt shift towards a more feminist, inclusive 21-century vision of fashion. Jon Favreau is at the helm, as Disney brings The Jungle Book to live action (again). Here's the first trailer.

Following its success with Cinderella and Alice In Wonderland, the next of Disney's animated films to get the live action treatment is The Jungle Book. This new version (unrelated to the 1994 live action movie from the studio) is being directed by Iron Man's Jon Favreau, with Neel Sethi taking on the role of Mowgli.

Also lending their talents to the endeavour are Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Christopher Walker and Lupita Nyong'o. And the first trailer for The Jungle Book has just been released by Disney.

The stunning first trailer for Disney's CGI-version of Jungle Book remake has been revealed.

Mowgli comes face to face with Kaa and floats downstream with Baloo the Bear in the clip.

Frank Beddor’s The Looking Glass War series, a dark fantasy look at Alice In Wonderland, has had a strong spinoff life in comics with Hatter M, the story of Hatter Madigan who is the bodyguard to the Queen of Wonderland and head of the elite security force known as the The Millinery.

Beddor has debuted a new Young Adult prose series at BookExpo America, Hatter Madigan, which shows his early days at the Millinery. And to mark the occasion, fan of the series Whoopi Goldberg will be highlighting the series and characters on The View on Friday. Beddor literally brought his characters to life on The View by inviting a team of cosplayers dressed up as his characters to appear on the show. “The audience exploded when they saw them come out. Fantasy rules reality. The reaction was amazing.”

At the top of the box office tree, 2002 was dominated by fantasy and special effects. Peter Jackson's The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers made almost a billion dollars all by itself, with Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets taking second place and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man not too far behind.

In many ways, 2002 set the tempo for the Hollywood blockbuster landscape, which has changed relatively little in the decade since. A quick look at 2013‘s top 10, for example, reveals a markedly similar mix of superhero movies, with Iron Man 3 still ruling the roost at the time of writing, followed by effects-heavy action flicks and family-friendly animated features.

Disney is the latest studio to hop onto the "Jungle Book" re-tooling boat, putting yet another egg into the House of Mouse's live-action reboot-heavy basket.

Yep, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed today that the Rudyard Kipling classic has been ordered to a live-action script by Justin Marks, who recently penned an adaptation of "The Raven" as well as a "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," and is now on the prowl for a director to attach to the pic.

Last weekend the wall-eyed animated nightmare The Croods was an unexpected slam-dunk at the box office. Like many of you, we were sent into fits of existential panic over the lumpy, prehistoric countenances of the film's jug-faced-yet-allegedly-lovable lead characters, and probably won't be checking out the film anytime soon. After all, we already have plenty of other kid-targeted flicks to pepper our dreams with flashes of unintended terror. Here are a few of the most scarring examples.

Bunnies are generally cute and cuddly so you'd think that "evil" ones would be a pretty rare find, right? Well, think again, my friend! Bunnies aren't always as cute as Anna Farris and Angela Bettis in May. Sometimes those flop-eared bastards are downright nasty. Sinister rabbits have made their presence known in all types of movies.

Ken Russell, the British director of Women in Love and The Devils, has died at the age of 84. We will be doing a retrospective on Russell throughout the month of December with reviews, articles and one special podcast dedicated to the provocative film maker who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday afternoon. Keira Knightley may have bowed out of a fourth Pirates of the Carribean movie, but that doesn’t mean she’s quite ready to give up the pirate-themed projects. The actress has signed on to voice Tinker Bell in Syfy’s Peter Pan prequel Neverland, the network announced.

Over the last few years, Disney decided to create live-action reenactments of classic Walt Disney Animated classics using some of Hollywood's biggest stars. The second batch [2] included Jessica Biel as Pocahontas, Whoopi Goldberg as the Genie, Jennifer Lopez as Princess Jasmine and Marc Anthony as Aladdin, Tina Fey as Tinker Bell, Gisele Bundchen as Wendy Darling and Mikhail Baryshnikov as Peter Pan. Disney has decided to create another series of these Dream Portrait Series Ads by photographer Annie Leibovitz.The new set includes Olivia Wilde as the Evil Queen and Alec Baldwin as the spirit of the magic mirror from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges appear as Belle and the transformed prince recalling the final scene from Beauty and the Beast, and Queen Latifah as Ursula from The Little Mermaid.

Special effects wizard Christian Manz is getting his tuxedo ready for this year's Oscars after helping to put the magic in the Harry Potter film franchise.

The 36-year-old visual effects supervisor has been nominated for an Academy Award for bringing the elves Dobby and Kreacher to life in blockbuster Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Manz (pictured above), a Kingston University illustration graduate, is a supervisor at Framestore, the largest visual effects and computer animation studio in Europe, based in Soho, central London.

The Hobbit movies coming in the 3D formatThe Hobbit and The Hobbit Sequel will be in 3D after all, according to The New York Times.

In March, then-director Guillermo del Toro had said there was a possibility that the two back-to-back prequels could be in 3D, as the studio wanted to utilized the format. But there were also conflicting reports that neither The Hobbit nor The Hobbit Sequel would be in 3D, as they were meant to be more intimate and modest movies, shot on a smaller scale than The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Syfy is bringing another re-imagined take on a classic tale to life. Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, at Syfy has announced that production is set to begin ona prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic Peter Pan, entitled Neverland.

Neverland will be helmed by writer/director Nick Willing. Syfy and Mr. Willing have successfully teamed up in the past to create several Syfy television mini-series.

Willing directed the three part reinterpretation of The Wizard of Oz, Tin Man for Syfy in 2007, and wrote and directed Syfy’s spin on Alice In Wonderland, Alice in 2009.

SyFy has announced that they will begin production on a new TV movie called Neverland, which will be a four-hour prequel to the story of Peter Pan.  It's being written and directed by Nick Willing, who worked on Syfy's Tin Man and Alice, which were reimaginings of The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland.

Synopsis:

Sweeping in time from the turbulent seas of the pirates of the Caribbean to the back alleys of Dickensian London to a world of pure imagination, "Neverland" is the inspired origin story of one of the most cherished characters of all time, Peter Pan.

The Emmy Awards are getting closer, and for fans of TV that probably means more than Oscar Night. But whether you are a television addict or not, the medium’s hiking quality means that the night of August 29th will present some of the most talented people currently working in the entertainment industry. In a year when feature films have consistently disappointed –with few exceptions –and when a hike in 3D and spectacle has also led to huge gaps in scripts and a general movie snooze-fest, TV has done its best to show that the small screen holds a lot of surprises; the list of this year’s nominees is a first-rate display of shows and performances that have often surpassed their big screen counterparts. Who said TV had an inferiority complex?

Thelma Schoonmaker — who is working with Martin Scorsese as editor on his new movie Hugo Cabret — has revealed to Empire that the storied director was keen to shoot the project in 3-D because it creates a different feel to a movie.

“He’s always been passionate about 3-D and, as a matter of fact, we’ve started screening older 3-D movies," she said. "We looked at Avatar and Alice in Wonderland then we looked at the older ones, and we love them."

“Hitchcock’s Dial M For Murder in 3-D is a whole other movie," Schoonmaker went on. "There’s only one really dramatic shot that is 3-D in the sense that most people think of it—Grace Kelly’s being strangled, the camera’s behind her, and she reaches back for the scissors. And that’s a beautiful 3-D Shot.”

The disappointing summer box office got a much needed injection of excitement last weekend when Toy Story 3 opened with an impressive $109 million domestically. The film absolutely destroyed fellow newcomer Jonah Hex and took the tenth spot on the all-time best opening weekend list right behind The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Iron Man 2 and Shrek the Third, Alice in Wonderland, Spider-Man, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, respectively. But will it be able to retain the top spot this week against two highly anticipated summer films including Knight and Day and Grown Ups?...

Ok guys, we already know that 3D adaptation of Brian Selznick’s novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret is coming, and we’re all very excited to see what legendary director Martin Scorsese will do with this story.

And yes, we all had a chance to hear that he’s very excited by 3D as well, but trust us, it looks that this project is going to be an extraordinary one…

Scorsese previously said: “if the camera move is going to be a 3D effect, it has to be for dramatic purposes – not just throwing spears at the audience. And that, maybe I can’t do that. Maybe my daughter’s generation, she’s 10 now, can think that way.”

Everything old is/will be new again in Hollywood. And it's not just the standard issue remakes, sequels, and prequels that are responsible for it, but thanks to the success of Sherlock Holmes and Alice in Wonderland, the studios are searching the public domain vaults for recognizable, crowd-pleasing titles that they can get for free.

The most popular title in this new trend is without question The Wizard of Oz. Currently, there are four - count 'em, four - projects in various stages of development based on L. Frank Baum's characters and story. Sam Raimi will direct Oz: The Great and Powerful starring Robert Downey, Jr., Drew Barrymore has been mentioned to helm the sequel Surrender Dorothy, and Todd McFarlane is still working on a dark, gothic version of the story. That's nothing new to Oz: The 1939 movie everybody knows was the 13th attempt at a film adaptation in 20 years.

The summer movie season got even hotter this weekend with the long awaited release of the third chapter of the extremely successful Pixar series, Toy Story 3. Warner Bros. adaptation of DC Comics' classic Western character, Jonah Hex was no match for the toys this weekend as they made a decent $109 million, which places them tenth on the all-time best opening weekend list right behind The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Iron Man 2 and Shrek the Third, Alice in Wonderland, Spider-Man, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End respectively.

Last night, HeyUGuys attended the World Premiere of Disney’s new movie, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (you can see all our coverage here). The big change in this premiere to all others was the location in which it was staged. Rather than bringing the world’s press to London’s famous and historic Leicester Square, the premiere was hosted by the brand spanking new shopping centre, Westfield which is located in Shepherd’s Bush – a place that unless you live in the UK, you’ve probably never heard of!

There were big surprises at the box office this weekend as How to Train Your Dragon fought it's way back to the top spot on the charts after four weeks. The film, which stars Gerard Butler, Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Craig Ferguson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiig, debuted at number one four weeks ago and had fallen all the way back to the fourth spot before climbing it's way back to number three last week. The film added 182 theaters for a total of 3,825 and earned an average of $5,229 per theater...

I could write a post discussing 3D every single day as a new film will be released in the format or discussion arises over the effect 3D is going to have on the future of film. Back in March Martin Scorsese raised a few eyebrows when he weighed in with his thoughts on 3D saying, "We see in depth, for the most part. We go to the theater -- it's in depth. Why couldn't a film like Precious be in 3D? It should be." To which many people said (myself included), "Really Marty?"

As it turns out his reply is, "Yes, really, and I am going to now do my own movie in 3D."

During MTV News' 3-D Week, we've suggested films that deserve a conversion into three dimensions ("The Matrix," "Predator") and certain scenes we never want to see in 3-D (the birthing scene in "Breaking Dawn," Leo DiCaprio's death in "Titanic").

We've also previewed the next three years in 3-D releases: animated flicks like "Cars 2," comic book adaptations like "Green Lantern," genre works like "Sucker Punch" and more.

Now we turn our attention to films we're not exactly sure will get the 3-D treatment but we have a pretty strong feeling will. From the "Twilight" franchise to big-budget action productions to live-action/animation hybrids, here are the movies we think might well be...

I love top 1o articles, its a great way to get debate going for a few hours. I try not to make a habit of doing them all the time but today I was sort of inspired. I recently saw Alice In Wonderland this weekend and it donned on me that we still have 2 months before the summer movies grace us with the their presence, I then began to wonder what films I was actually excited about seeing this summer. I have now compiled the top 10 movies I Can’t Wait to See This Summer.

So all of you know I consider the summer movie season to begin in May and end in July. So movies looked at were only in those release periods, not before or afterwards. Oh yeah I left Iron Man 2 off the list because that one just seemed to easy to get excited for, also...
