Erich Anderson, who was sometimes also credited as E. Erich Anderson, racked up over 100 credits during a screen acting career that stretched from 1983 into the 2020s, but he may be best known for playing the role of Rob in the 1984 slasher classic Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. A character out for revenge, Rob looked like he had a shot at being able to take down hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees for good… but when Rob finally caught up with Jason, things did not go well for him at all. Among Friday the 13th fans, Rob has become a favorite due to the fact that he seems so cool and capable at first, but then whiffs his shot at vengeance in a major way. Sadly, the actor who brought Rob to the screen is no longer with us. Erich Anderson’s wife Saxon Trainor has confirmed through social media that he...

Best known to horror fans for playing the character Rob Dier in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, actor Erich Anderson has sadly passed away after a battle with cancer.
The actor was 67 years old.
Michael O’Malley wrote on Instagram, “My brother in law Erich Anderson passed this morning after a brutal struggle with cancer. He had a long successful career as an actor—he was on that old show “30 Something”; he was Felicity’s father on “Felicity”; he was killed in a basement in a Friday the 13th movie; he was on Star Trek and dozens of other shows.”
“He was a smart and funny guy, a fantastic cook; he wrote three great novels which you can find on Amazon,” O’Malley continues. “I’ll miss him but his ordeal is over.”
Released in 1984, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter was one of Erich Anderson’s very first acting roles.

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Amour Fou (Jessica Hausner)
An ecstatically original work of film-history-philosophy with a digital-cinema palette of acutely crafted compositions. Amour Fou seamlessly blends together the paintings of Vermeer, the acting of Bresson, and the psychological undercurrents of a Dostoevsky novel. It is an intensely thrilling and often slyly comic work that manages to combine a passionately dispassionate love story of the highest order with a larger socio-historical examination of a new era of freedom,...

Plot: In the future, an undead Lapd cop (Kim Coates) goes to war with the seedy underbelly of his beloved city. Anyone who’s yearned for a version of RoboCop devoid of satire, but suffused with the sensibility of Slipknot, will thrill to Officer Downe, an ultraviolent comic-book adaptation directed with spastic overkill by the heavy metal band’s resident percussionist/“scary clown.” There’s a bit of Sons Of Anarchy in there, too, as Kim “Tig” Coates plays the film’s title character, who isn’t technically a robot but might just as well be. Early on, we see the maniacally justice-obsessed Officer Downe blown to kingdom come while pursuing a suspect, then observe as a secret underground unit of the Lapd (headed by Lauren Luna Vélez, which seems like an in-joke for Dexter fans who constantly marveled at María Laguerta’s incompetence at Miami Metro) proceeds to bring him back to life, Frankenstein style. Why this world-changing technology is being employed solely to serially resuscitate a single maverick cop...

Crime can kill him, but it can't stop him from doing his job. Based on Joe Casey and Chris Burnham's cult graphic novel of the same name, Officer Downe follows a cop who is brought back to life—again and again—to protect his city against eclectic crime organizations that are armed to the teeth. Ahead of the film's November 18th release from Magnet Releasing, we caught up with Officer Downe screenwriter, producer, graphic novel writer and co-creator Joe Casey for our latest Q&A feature to discuss the movie's journey to the big screen, working with Slipknot's Shawn Crahan on his feature film directorial debut, and much more.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Joe. When you and Chris Burnham created the Officer Downe graphic novel, did you ever imagine that you would get the opportunity to adapt it into a film?
Joe Casey: Absolutely not.

The heavy metal group Slipknot and the cult action film “Crank” may not have much in common face, but creators from both entities have come together to adapt a hyper-violent graphic novel. Slipknot co-founder Shawn Crahan, a.k.a. “Clown,” and “Crank” co-director Mark Neveldine have brought Joe Casey’s “Officer Downe” to the big screen. Written by Casey himself, the film stars Kim Coates (“Sons of Anarchy”) as Officer Downe, a deceased police officer resurrected from the dead to keep fighting crime. Watch an exclusive clip from the film below.

"Are you ready to crush some criminal cranium?" What in the world is this?! A trailer has arrived for a film called Officer Downe, adapted from the graphic novel of the same name. It's about a zombie police officer in the future who is resurrected every time he dies, cleaning up the streets of Los Angeles the only way he knows how - "with extreme prejudice and a total disdain for gun-running nuns and kung fu criminals." Kim Coates stars as Officer Downe, with a fun cast including Sam Witwer, Lauren Vélez, Alison Lohman, Lindsay Pulsipher, Reno Wilson, Tyler Ross and filmmaker Mark Neveldine (who also produced it). This looks totally whacko, but also kind of badass, like Judge Dredd if it were a low budget D-movie. Enjoy. Earlier this year, producer Mark Neveldine made a bold claim, stating that the upcoming comic book adaption of Officer Downe is “better than any Marvel movie or DC movie ever made.” While this kind of comment usually has mainstream comic book fans spitting vinegar, I would argue those studios are releasing some pretty generic, watered down cinema, so it's entirely possible he's just calling it how he sees it. Either way, Officer Downe barely resembles modern comic book movies which is why it's refreshing. For my money, Officer Downe is already a winner when it casts Sons of Anarchy actor Kim Coates in the lead and holds a super R rating as a badge of honor. This first trailer for the highly stylized adaptation has been...

"My city's gone to hell..." As the titular character in Officer Downe, Kim Coates takes on an eclectic array of criminals in the film's official trailer.

While the film itself is a bit of a mess, I still appreciated the enthusiasm and fervor that went into making Officer Downe, the big screen adaptation of Joe Casey and Chris Burnham’s graphic novel of the same name. An over-the-top and unapologetic celebration of ultra-violence, sex, immature humor, and the mayhem that makes cult cinema so great, Officer Downe is an ambitious first-time feature from M. Shawn Crahan. And while a lot of the movie feels disjointed and doesn’t necessarily succeed in its efforts, the parts that do come together in Officer Downe give the movie some really weird and wildly fun moments. With a few tweaks, I’d be game for more escapades with Los Angeles’ ultimate police officer and justice-seeker.

Outrageous, ultra-violent, and sleazy as hell, Officer Downe is the kind of movie made for midnight screenings and intended for audiences in the right mindset to see some deranged and psychotic nonsense.
What if you could resurrect RoboCop as many times as you wanted? That’s the simplified premise of this movie, which follows an L.A. super cop (Sons of Anarchy’s Kim Coates) who’s killed in the line of duty and brought back to life to continue his never-ending rampage against crime. What if you could resurrect RoboCop as many times as you wanted? That’s the simplified premise of this movie, which follows an L.A. super cop (Sons of Anarchy’s Kim Coates) who’s killed in the line of duty and brought back to life to continue his never-ending rampage against crime. Bloody, extreme action opus Officer Downe is a blast. Terrence Downe is the perfect cop in a city ripe with crime; always on the job, absolutely dedicated to taking the bad guys out, and completely willing to put his life on the line until he finally makes the ultimate sacrifice – which he pays, again,…

Orgasm high scores. Exploding prop heads. Poorly dubbed kung fu masters. A shit-kicking cop who can’t be killed. All this and more can be found in Shawn Crahan’s absolutely batshit insane Officer Downe, a graphic novel adaptation that oozes B-Movie absurdity through reckless decapitations and renegade heroics. Think Dredd, but with an aggressive stress put on not giving a single flying fuck about anything – like, even less than Judge Dredd’s zero tolerance policy.
Kim Coates plays Officer Terry Downe, a “special” lawman who is resurrected each day to clean the streets of Los Angeles. He’s a one-man wrecking ball with his own designated clean-up crew, including the newly assigned Officer Gamble (Tyler Ross). After witnessing the unimaginable, Gamble struggles to understand how Officer Downe defies the afterlife, which causes some friction in the bullpen with other more accepting officers – but there’s no time to waste.

Celebrating its world premiere this weekend at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival is the graphic novel adaptation Officer Downe, which was written by Joe Casey (who also wrote the source material) and directed by M. Shawn Crahan, (also known to fans worldwide as “Clown” from Slipknot). The film stars Kim Coates as the titular character: a badass cop unable to die and Los Angeles’ last form of protection from a corrupt future world.
Produced by Mark Neveldine and Skip Williamson, two of the maniacs behind the Crank series, Officer Downe looks to be a balls-to-the-wall actioner that takes no prisoners (pun absolutely intended).
Daily Dead caught up with Coates prior to the film’s premiere to hear more about his experiences taking on the lead role for Officer Downe, collaborating with Crahan on the film, why the world needs more badass movies, and the virtues of playing an immortal character.

Directed by first-time feature filmmaker M. Shawn Crahan (who is also known to millions of fans as Clown from the hugely popular band Slipknot), Officer Downe recently premiered at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival. Written by Joe Casey (who also penned the graphic novel), Officer Downe stars Kim Coates in the titular role as an immortal cop fighting to make Los Angeles a safer place in the not-too-distant future.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Crahan about his first time in the director’s chair for Officer Downe and heard more about his approach to the material, why Coates was the perfect choice to embody the film’s hero, how Mark Neveldine has continued to mentor him, and more.

Kim Coates was quick to violence as Tig Trager on “Sons of Anarchy,” but his new film “Officer Downe” finds him on the right side of the law — with a twist. “He’s a good cop, he’s a really good cop, plays by the badge,” the actor tells TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell in a new episode of “Drinking With the Stars.” “He’s an awesome, awesome officer who actually died while he was serving in a freeway chase.” He’s such a good cop, Coates said, “the Lapd decide to put his body on ice for 20 years hoping there’s some kind of technology.

Back in February, producer Mark Neveldine (half of Crank's Neveldine/Taylor directing duo) stated that his upcoming comic book adaption of Officer Downe is “better than any Marvel movie or DC movie ever made.” While some people may think that's a bold claim, I would argue those studios are releasing some pretty generic, watered down cinema, so it's entirely possible he's just calling it how he sees it.
For my money, Officer Downe is already a winner when it casts Sons of Anarchy actor Kim Coates in the lead and holds a super R rating. This first clip from the flick certainly gives us a great taste of the madness to come.

The 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday, June 1st, and this year’s Nightfall lineup looks to be yet another strong selection of genre films set to thrill festival-goers night after night.
For those of you in the southern California area, the 2016 Laff runs through Thursday, June 9th and is calling the ArcLight Culver City Cinema home this year. Here’s a look at what we’re anticipating once the Laff begins later this week, and for more information on the festival, please visit:

Abattoir (directed by Darren Lynn Bousman)
Full disclosure: Abattoir was edited by my significant other, so I am certainly biased, but my enthusiasm for the film comes from my excitement to see Bousman return to the hardboiled world of horror after working on The Devil’s Carnival musicals and his comedy-infused segment in last year’s Tales of Halloween anthology.

Yes, that is what producer Mark Neveldine claims.
The new film, Officer Downe, based on the graphic novel of the same name, follows the foibles of "an L.A. supercop who is killed in the line of duty but is repeatedly resurrected and sent back onto the streets." It was created by Joe Casey, who also penned the screenplay.
Slipknot cofounder and drummer Shawn Crahan is making his directorial debut with Downe.
What do you think? Do you trust Neveldine's opinion? One thing is for sure, he knows what a bad Marvel film is, after all he directed Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, one of the worst film adaptations of a comic.

It's an exciting time to be a Man of Action fan. The consistently innovative and impressively productive studio / writers' collective has intriguing upcoming projects on the printed page and onscreen, and at San Diego Comic-Con, Daily Dead caught up with Joe Kelly, Joe Casey, Steven T. Seagle, and Duncan Rouleau, who discussed the Camp Midnight graphic novel, the respective feature films for Officer Downe and I Kill Giants, as well as Big Hero 6 and more.
As per usual with you guys, it's been another busy year for the Man of Action team. Your Comic-Con exclusive comic book from last year, The Bus: A Camp Midnight Mini, is being expanded into a 256-page graphic novel that will be released in time for Halloween. Steven, how did Camp Midnight make the transition from mini comic to full-length graphic novel?
Steven T. Seagle: The mini comic was actually a bit of a ruse.
