Dedicated followers of the superhero/comic book movies produced by Sony Pictures and its various production studios know how cinematic universe-minded the company has been for decades now. Sadly, a lot of their proposed ideas for combining their franchise characters into one film have been non-starters; we will never know what a "Sinister Six" movie would have looked like, and it's fair to say that we probably won't be seeing Dr. Michael Morbius or Cassandra Web again anytime soon. Right now, the only crossover movies Sony has under its belt is the Marvel co-production "Spider-Man: No Way Home" as well as "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and its sequel, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." With those latter two movies existing in the animation world, a live-action crossover movie that doesn't involve a Marvel Studios team-up is still an elusive beast, one even Kraven...

No, Ben Affleck apparently did not shut down filming on "Gone Girl" because he, a lifelong Boston Red Sox devotee, staunchly refused to don a Yankees cap during a scene.
Back in 2021, Affleck's on-screen twin sister Carrie Coon — who played Margot Dunne to Affleck's Nick Dunne in "Gone Girl" — set the record straight and claimed that she doesn't think that whole fracas ever actually happened. At least, if there was some sort of issue, she doesn't remember it (and it should be said here that she is not in the scene where Affleck would have had to wear the dreaded Yankees hat).
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" and other projects, Carrie Coon addressed the rumor about her 2014 project with Affleck. "I do not recall a four-day shutdown over a hat," she told reporter Brian Davids. "So I think that might've been a touch of exaggeration, though they are both very passionate.

When "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" arrived in 2021, soaked in nostalgia, it gave Hasbro an excuse to dig back into the legacy of "Ghostbusters" and deliver new action figures of the original team of paranormal exterminators. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson all got new action figures from the original "Ghostbusters" in Hasbro's six-inch line of Plasma Series collectibles, as well as new figures inspired by their aged appearances (or ghostly in the case of the late Ramis) in "Afterlife." However, there was one signature element of "Ghostbusters" missing from this toy line, and Hasbro's crowdfunding collectible arm HasLab is rectifying that soon.
Today, Hasbro announced that the latest HasLab crowdfunded collectible release is an Ecto-1 vehicle scaled to the six-inch Plasma Series figures. The collectible vehicle will come with a bunch of exclusive accessories, especially if you buy the deluxe version inspired by "Ghostbusters II," and there's one particularly...

Longtime friends and collaborators, Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, reunite once more in this new biopic, charting the explosive birth of the iconic Saturday Night Live comedy program on the US TV network NBC.
Set in the frantic 90 minutes before the show’s inaugural episode aired, Saturday Night expertly captures the unpredictable, high-stakes nature of live television, weaving in biting humour, personal conflicts, and the birth of a cultural phenomenon.
Reitman and Kenan’s script balances tension and comedy, paying homage to the anarchic energy of SNL’s origins while offering insight into the fragile egos, narcotic excesses and volatile personalities that shaped its creation.
The film opens on October 11, 1975, with a visibly stressed Lorne Michaels, portrayed with nuance and gravitas by The Fabelmans star Gabriel Labelle, entering NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza in preparation for the first show. Outside he is greeted by a stressed out NBC page (Stanger Things...

Two years ago, we heard that Ghostbusters: Afterlife writer/director Jason Reitman and his co-writer Gil Kenan (who ended up directing Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire) would be executive producing a new Ghostbusters animated series for the Netflix streaming service. A couple of months ago, Netflix officially gave a greenlight to the series, with Elliott Kalan has boarding the project as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. During an interview with The Direct, Kenan took the chance to hype up the series a bit, while also confirming that he and Reitman are having conversations about continuing the franchise with more live-action films.
When asked if there will be more Ghostbusters movies, Kenan said, “The answer is yes, Jason (and I), we take the responsibility and the joy of being the keepers of the flame of Ghostbusters very seriously… we definitely are continuing the conversation of telling big Ghostbuster stories on the big screen.

Ghostbusters films haven’t been doing mega box office numbers – but there are more on the way. A few thoughts on a new way forward for big movies.
Over the weekend, a little sliver of news popped out regarding the future of the Ghostbusters big screen franchise. It’s been radio silence there for a few months, but finally, the confirmation that Sony intends to carry on with the series of films.
Gil Kenan, who along with Jason Reitman has been the creative driving force behind 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and this year’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, told The Direct that “we definitely are continuing the conversation of telling big Ghostbusters stories on the big screen. And stay tuned. There’ll be more. There’ll be more about that later.”

Jason Reitman directed 'Saturday Night' as if it was a musical. The 46-year-old filmmaker is at the helm of the biographical comedy-drama that charts the story of how 'Saturday Night Live' made it to the television screen, and admitted that he approached the project as if it was a stage show rather than a movie. He told Collider: "You have to think of it like a musical. It’s like choreography. We have to organize where every character is at any given moment, and we shot the movie twice. We did the movie in prep, shooting it with stand-ins, camera, stills, video, figuring everything out. We built the set a month in advance so that we could actually do that. So, by the time we got to set, everything could be organized so we could have as quick a shoot as possible. Then, on the day of,...

Despite being born and spending much of my life on the other side of the Atlantic, I’ve always been a fan of Saturday Night Live. The live format, which not only allows for constant improvisation but also for countless memorable moments of actors breaking character, is immensely appealing, as is the show’s structure – a collection of distinct sketches with musical performances. So naturally, a film based on the pilot episode, specifically the 90 minutes leading up to the broadcast, caught my attention.
Saturday Night is the title of the movie and was also the name of the original show due to a conflict with another late-night program, Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell. After that show was canceled, SNL adopted the title it’s known by today, becoming a cultural phenomenon that, despite having its greatest impact in its home country, still crossed borders and reached audiences everywhere. Naturally,...

Comedian Dan Aykroyd has high praise for the new film “Saturday Night,” which tells the story of the first episode of “Saturday Night Live.” Aykroyd was part of the original cast of NBC’s groundbreaking sketch comedy show when it debuted in 1975. After seeing director Jason Reitman’s movie at his local theater, Aykroyd called it a “stand-alone masterpiece” that accurately captures the intense process of creating the pioneering TV program.
Aykroyd took to the social media platform X to share his thoughts about “Saturday Night.” He said the film is “propulsive, engaging, funny, beautifully cast and acted, suspenseful, adventurous, [and] music-filled.” The movie veteran believes the film authentically portrays the frantic 90 minutes before the very first “SNL” broadcast. As an original cast member, Aykroyd felt like he “relived it wonderfully again” while watching Reitman’s movie. He encourages audiences to see the film “whether you know the show or not.

"Saturday Night" is playing in theaters everywhere now, showcasing the chaotic chronicle of the 90 minutes preceding the first episode of the late night sketch comedy series "Saturday Night Live" (or at least the show that would eventually have that title). Jason Reitman directed the film, and he also co-wrote the script with producer Gil Kenan (director of "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire"), both bringing a long-time love for "SNL" with them. In fact, Reitman was able to live the rare dream of writing at "SNL" for a week. Meanwhile, Kenan's love for "SNL" began in the '90s with the likes of "SNL" legends like Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, and Chris Farley, but it carries through to this day.
Being a die-hard "SNL" fan myself, I was thrilled to speak with both Reitman and Kenan about piecing together the early history of "Saturday Night Live" into this electric film. It's funny,...

The Incredible Hulk was released in 2008, around the same time as Iron Man, and was the second film in what would eventually become the MCU. However, it remains one of the MCU’s most controversial entries, largely because it doesn’t hold the same iconic status as other MCU films.
There are several reasons for this, but the most significant issue is the major recasting of the Hulk. Edward Norton, who originally played the character, was replaced by Mark Ruffalo in the MCU’s biggest recast to date, marking the only time a major hero has been recast in the franchise.
While Ruffalo has done well in the role and is set for more screen time, a rumor from reliable insider DanielRPK suggests the MCU may be preparing for a post-Hulk era—or at least a time with two Hulks in the main MCU.

When the news first broke that an all-female Ghostbusters reboot was in the works that would completely disregard the previous movies and establish a brand-new continuity without the iconic members of the original team, there was, not too surprisingly, a lot of backlash.
While some of the responses were just flat out misogynistic rants, the biggest issue for a lot of fans was that they weren't getting a direct sequel with Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore (Egon Spengler actor Harold Ramis had passed by this stage).
Even so, many people were willing to give the movie a chance... until they saw it.
Ghostbusters 2016 was far from an unmitigated disaster, but a solid first act soon gave way to tired gags, pointless cameos, and a ridiculous ending that really just served as a retread of the original. Reviews were decent all the same (74% on Rotten Tomatoes), and there is...

Paul Feig never intended to make “who you gonna call?” such a politically-charged question.
The Emmy-nominated writer and director explained that he made his 2016 female-led Ghostbusters reboot as it would have “felt weird” to continue with only part of the original cast after star Bill Murray publicly shot down the idea of a sequel.
“It had been 30 years and Bill and the gang were so iconic; I didn’t want to do anything that hurt the original movies,” Feig told The Guardian.
The reboot stars Kristen Wiig as physicist Erin Gilbert and Melissa McCarthy as paranormal researcher Abby Yates, who reunite years after trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions pop up in Manhattan, they turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon) and lifelong New Yorker Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) for help.
“The political climate of the time was really weird, with Hillary Clinton running for office in 2016,” explained Feig.

Dylan O’Brien is keeping a pretty cool head after undertaking his latest role.
The Saturday Night actor said he “can’t wait” to meet Dan Aykroyd following his portrayal of the Saturday Night Live alum in the upcoming Jason Reitman-helmed film, which premieres nationwide on Oct. 11, the 49th anniversary of the NBC sketch comedy show’s first episode.
“I’m okay if my guy hates it. It’s acceptance. That was my method,” he joked to People about Aykroyd’s potential reaction to his performance.
“I hear we’re very similar, in a way that I never knew,” added O’Brien. “I feel like we’re going to get along.”

As the star of Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, Gaten Matarazzo has joined his all-time favorite franchise that he often references in his career-launching franchise of Stranger Things.
On the season four premiere of the latter, Matarazzo’s Dustin Henderson quoted Han Solo’s famous line, “Never tell me the odds,” which was a retort to C-3Po’s mathematical skepticism amid Han’s daring asteroid field navigation in The Empire Strikes Back. Well, Matarazzo — as his Force-powered Lego Star Wars character Sig Greebling — can now say that he’s also been on the receiving end of C-3Po’s odds. Anthony Daniels reprised his legacy character on Rebuild the Galaxy, only it was an ominous bounty hunter version of his protocol droid, since Sig reconfigured the very nature of the Star Wars galaxy by removing “the Cornerstone” (a glowing Lego) from a lost Jedi temple. There's a current Hollywood trend that is wholly disturbing. Many major studios -- but primarily Disney -- have been spending millions of dollars and hiring hundreds of effects technicians, animators, and designers to digitally resurrect dead actors to include in their franchise movies. The film "Alien: Romulus" did this recently, while the movies "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" hired actors Guy Henry and Bob Gunton to portray characters previously played by the late Peter Cushing and Harold Ramis before digitally altering them to resemble their predecessors. While Cushing's estate and Ramis' family signed off on this, it's still different from a living actor giving their consent to be digitally altered, like Jeff Bridges did for "Tron: Legacy."
The first example of digital grave robbing likely came in 2004 with the release of Kerry Conran's "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow," which featured a digital performance...

Paramount Pictures has announced plans to adapt the 2019 bestseller, Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You. Josh Boone is set to direct and Allison Williams is set to star in the film. It’s believed the studio wants to replicate the success of It Ends with Us.
Hoover’s Work Has Already Proved Successful At The Movies
Regretting You revolves around the fallout of a tragedy. Morgan Grant wants her daughter Clara to avoid the mistakes she made in life while her husband Chris plays peacemaker. Things take a turn, however, when Chris gets involved in an accident, leaving Morgan and Clara to rebuild.

Hoover’s work has already proven to be a potential hit maker. Her 2016 book It Ends with Us saw a film adaptation in 2024, which proved to be a sleeper hit. The film also notably featured Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar, and Justin Baldoni, who also served as a director.

Sony’s overwhelming success with its adaptation of author Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us has paved the way for another book from the best-selling novelist to get the silver screen treatment with Regretting You. Discussion about It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, and Brandon Sklenar, have dominated watercoolers since the romantic drama’s theatrical release, with big box office numbers, controversy, and rumors keeping the film on tongues. Today, Deadline says Paramount Pictures has landed the rights to Regretting You, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2019 bestseller. The Fault in Our Stars helmer Josh Boone directs Regretting You, with M3GAN and Girls actress Allison Williams set to star. Dave Franco, Mckenna Grace, and Mason Thamesjoin Williams to lead the cast.

A legal battle that has been brewing for years is now going to trial, with a High Court in London ruling that Tyburn Film Productions can proceed with their lawsuit against Disney/Lucasfilm for using the late Peter Cushing's likeness in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The Gareth Edwards-directed movie - which went on to gross over $1 billion worldwide - featured the return of A New Hope's villainous Grand Moff Tarkin, with Industrial Light & Magic's advanced computer-generated technology used to "resurrect" the legendary actor for several scenes.
It was one of the first examples of a studio employing what's come to be known as "digital necromancy" to bring a deceased actor's character back to the screen, but far from the last, and it always results in a significant amount of backlash. Most recently, the late Ian Holm's likeness was used for an android in Alien: Romulus,...

In 2021, "Up in the Air" and "Juno" director Jason Reitman dug into the legacy of his filmmaking father Ivan Reitman with "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," a revival of the sci-fi comedy franchise with a refreshing yet overly nostalgic lens. Now, he's reaching back to the rise of a pillar of American comedy by way of one of the "Ghostbusters" creators and the troupe of comedians and innovators who made showbiz history back in 1975.
"Saturday Night" moves like a bullet train as it chronicles the incredibly intense, mystifyingly disorganized, and utterly chaotic 90 minutes that led up to the premiere of the first episode of the NBC sketch comedy series that was eventually given the moniker of "Saturday Night Live" (you can find out why it didn't have that title from the get-go over here). A film bringing the show’s origin story to the big screen seems to be a fitting tribute to its outstanding legacy, and fans of the show have high expectations. Jason Reitman, the film’s director, has a fair share of dramedies under his belt with “Juno,” “Tully,” and, most recently “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which he co-wrote with Gil Kenan.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire got off to a slow start at the box office, but ended up making over $100 million domestically, showing the franchise still has signs of life. Some will say this is the fourth Ghostbusters film, but of course, we all know it’s actually the fifth, as you have to count Paul Feig’s reboot to a certain extent. While critics have been cool on Gil Kenan’s addition to the franchise, fans seem to really be enjoying the film, which gives the Og Ghostbusters enhanced roles. All this got me thinking: what are the best Ghostbusters films? So, I had to do it – here’s my Ghostbusters Movies Ranked list. I’m sure this will inspire a little debate, so let me know what you think of this list in the comments below – even if you hate it. Note that this list is from worst to best.

Halloween Horror Nights is back, and guests are asked who they’re gonna call as some familiar ghosts and a whole lot of Mini-Pufts invade the Orlando amusement park.
The Ghostbusters franchise has had a rough go of it. The original film is a bona fide masterpiece and the direct sequel featured a fantastic villain and some of the series’ most fun moments; however, that lightning in a bottle event that audiences experienced in 1984 has yet to be regained on the big screen. Fans can still experience the highs and lows of the franchise at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights, featuring a haunted house dedicated to Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and an onslaught of those adorably mischievous Mini-Pufts.

The recent release of Alien: Romulus has led to speculation of a potential bigger reboot, with more movies expected to come out in due time. The franchise has given fans some iconic characters during its run, with Romulus being the 9th film in the series.
That includes Sigourney Weaver’s portrayal of protagonist Ellen Ripley, with the actress also expected to reprise her role eventually. While Weaver had initially refused the possibility of her return to the franchise, her recent comments have once again sparked hope. The actress suggested in a Deadline review that she is merely looking for a script that she wants to do. This, as one would expect, has brought a range of reactions from fans.

This article contains Alien: Romulus and The Flash spoilers.
The reviews are in, and some fans are already holding Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus up as the best xenomorph feature since Ridley Scott’s 1979 original and James Cameron’s Aliens from 1986. It feels like a new era of the Alienverse is ready to burst forward from Hollywood’s chest. But while there’s plenty of praise for Alvarez’s back-to-basics approach, which tries to capture the pulse-pounding horror of Scott’s Alien, it’s not quite a perfect outing.
As well as some criticizing the suitably batshit ending that echoes Alien Resurrection’s bewildering finale, it’s the return of Ian Holm’s likeness that’s causing a stir for Romulus—namely because the actor tragically passed away in 2020. Despite a CGI approximation of “Holm” appearing in the role of a new android called Rook instead of Alien‘s Ash,...

A while back, Stranger Things and Ghostbusters: Afterlife actor Finn Wolfhard made his feature directorial debut with a horror comedy called Hell of a Summer, which he directed alongside Billy Bryk, who also appeared in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had the chance to watch the movie at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and gave it a 5/10 review than can be read at This Link – and now, Variety reports that Hell of a Summer has secured a U.S. distribution deal with Neon, which sent Longlegs and Cuckoo out into the world. The company is planning to give Wolfhard and Bryk’s film a theatrical release sometime in 2025.
Months before Hell of a Summer was officially announced, Wolfhard said that he was planning to make his feature directorial debut with “a horror-comedy-slasher movie that takes place at a camp.” Sure enough, that’s what this movie is.

Neon has picked up the U.S. rights to “Hell of a Summer” from Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk from 30West, the distributor announced on Tuesday.
The horror-comedy, directed and written by Wolfhard and Bryk in their feature debut, also stars the pair alongside Fred Hechinger. Their movie had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
“Hell of a Summer” follows 24-year-old camp counselor Jason Hochberg (Hechinger), who arrives at Camp Pineway thinking his biggest problem is that he feels out of touch with his teenage coworkers. What he doesn’t know is that a masked killer is lurking on the campgrounds, brutally picking counselors off one by one.
30West fully financed and executive produced the film. Producers are Hechinger, Aggregate Films’ Michael Costigan and Jason Bateman, Drew Brennan, and Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy. The deal was negotiated by Jason Wald on behalf of Neon...

Meagan Navarro wrote in her festival review for Bloody Disgusting, “Slasher riffs and parodies date back nearly as long as slashers themselves, dissecting the enduring tropes and familiar formulas. Netflix is back with a new star-studded action movie — this time led by Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry — with “The Union.” Wahlberg stars as Mike, a Jersey construction worker who finds his average life turned upside down when his high school sweetheart Roxanne (Berry) shows up and he gets tangled up in a continent-skipping international intelligence adventure.
But Berry and Wahlberg aren’t the only familiar faces in the Netflix romp. Here’s a handy guide to “The Union” cast and the characters they play.
Halle Berry in “The Union” (Laura Radford/Netflix)
Halle Berry as Roxanne Hall — Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry stars as The Union operative Roxanne Hall, an ass-kicking, world-traveling adventurer who never misses her shot. Berry is best known for her superhero roles, playing Storm in the “X-Men” films and Catwoman in “Catwoman,” as well as her Best Actress-winning performance in “Monster’s Ball.” Her well-known titles also include “John Wick 3,...

Warning: This article contains major spoilers for "Alien: Romulus."
"Alien: Romulus" brings us a new chapter in the beloved sci-fi horror franchise full of deadly Xenomorphs, black goo, and the terror of space — where no one can hear you scream. However, unlike "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant," the latest installment doesn't take place before Ridley Scott's original 1979 classic "Alien" starring Sigourney Weaver. Instead, "Romulus" takes place 20 years after the events of the original "Alien," placing it nearly four decades before the timeline of James Cameron's sequel "Aliens," which unfolds 57 years after "Alien." Everyone on the same page?
Because of the proximity "Romulus" has to "Alien," and due to the fact that lead actor Cailee Spaeny ("Civil War") is in her mid-20s, there was a rampant rumor that her character would end up being Ripley's daughter, a character named Amanda previously portrayed in the "Alien: Isolation" video game.
