Rob Lowe Regretted Punching Tom Cruise That Made ‘His Eyes Go Black’: “He completely knocked me out’
Filming with Tom Cruise isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, for there are only a few stars in Hollywood who can keep up with the seasoned actor’s adrenaline-fueled scenes and his commitment. But surprisingly, Rob Lowe turned out to be one such star who effortlessly matched Cruise’s excitement.

According to reports, Tom Cruise and Rob Lowe not only shared screens in their 1983 crime thriller The Outsiders, but the duo also shared hotel rooms while filming the coming-of-age crime drama, at just 18. And this led Cruise and Lowe to engage in friendly boxing matches, until one day, when they both caused regretful damage to each other.

What might teenage boys do when they’re stuck in a hotel while filming 1983’s The Outsiders? Well, if it was Rob Lowe and Tom Cruise, they’re going to have a sparring match.
The 9-1-1: Lone Star actor was asked on Monday’s episode of The Rich Eisen Show about his favorite memory with Cruise, and their time working together on the iconic Francis Ford Coppola-directed movie was the first thing that came to mind, especially when they were just messing around.
“He’s [Cruise] so competitive that we used to box in the hallway of the hotel we were staying at during Outsiders,” he recalled. “So much testosterone. We’re 18-year-old guys stuck on location. So we would wear headgear, and we’d have mouthpieces in, but we would legitimately spar.”

“Play stupid games, wins stupid prizes.” It’s a saying almost as overused as “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t”. And in this film from directors Nicolas Wendl and Dani Abraham and writer Tanner Adams, all involved should have heeded them.
A while back Jaxon and Celeste hooked up, and then she ghosted him. Now, out of the blue she’s invited him over for dinner, the catch is he has to bring two of his friends for her two roommates, Mia and Riley. His buddy Rex is happy to join him but when their other friend backs out, they end up recruiting Stanley the cable guy.

Broadway’s spring roster seemed to settle into a Tony season box office ranking, with the strongest of the newcomers maintaining their draws and the weakest continuing downward slides.
In that first category were repeat sell-outs An Enemy of the People, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club and Hell’s Kitchen, with both The Outsiders and Stereophonic inching onto that turf. The Outsiders was up $129,650 from the previous week to a big $1,023,827, and Stereophonic jumped $92,392 to $683,911. All five shows were well represented among Tony nominees.
A second batch of newcomers, though not hitting sell-out status, nonetheless were very strong performers during the week ending May 12. Appropriate was up more than $43,000 to $702,686, filling 91% of its seats; Mary Jane and Mother Play both held steady, with attendance around 97% of capacity; Suffs, The Great Gatsby and The Wiz each posted box office jumps of more than $100,000, settling into the impressive 91% to 95% of capacity terrain.

Two of the more anticipated star turns on Broadway this season — Steve Carell making his debut in the Lincoln Center Theater revival of Uncle Vanya and The Sopranos alum Michael Imperioli returning to the New York stage in Circle in the Square’s An Enemy of the People — got no love from Tony Award nominators today, and the West End hit Patriots, written by The Crown‘s Peter Morgan, barely registered on the roster, with only one nom for lead actor Michael Stuhlbarg.
Even more empty-handed than Patriots was The Wiz, the cheery, if rote, revival of the beloved Black retelling of The Wizard of Oz. Despite a star turn by Wayne Brady, it’s possible that Tony nominators saw the Broadway revival for the uninspired road show it is.
Other shows with zero nominations included I Need That starring Danny DeVito, the Barry Manilow-Bruce Sussman musical Harmony,...

American animated series Young Justice is considered one of the best superhero series ever made. While Francis Ford Coppola is, and always will be associated with his greatest work namely The Godfather trilogy, the prolific director was instrumental in kickstarting the careers of many A-list celebrities today. “When I blow up, I’m gonna go nuts,” Quentin Branch declares on “Stanley Kubrick,” a track from Angry Blackmen’s The Legend of Abm. The Chicago-based experimental hip-hop duo’s beats are distorted and dissonant, with traces of industrial-rock influence paired with a punk-tinged aggression. This contrast in sounds is mirrored by their vocal styles: Brian Warren offers a melodic touch, rapping in a quick sing-song manner with few pauses, while Branch leans toward more straightforward shouting.
Angry Blackmen’s dedication to this mode of uneasy listening is uncompromising throughout. The album’s production is enveloping, with sharp changes of dynamics and sustained, ominous electronics. “Fna” opens with blown-out 808s, while “Dead Men Tell No Lies” ends on the repeated title phrase, filtered so it barely even sounds like a human voice.

For the second year in a row, Fox is not releasing a fall schedule ahead of its upfront presentation.
Fox did the same thing in 2022, opting instead to announce their content slate for the upcoming broadcast season but holding off on announcing a formal schedule until a later date. Last year, the move came as the network was still waiting on decisions on the dramas “9-1-1” and “The Resident.” But with the latter show canceled and the former moving to ABC, this year’s move comes as the writers’ strike enters its third week.
Networks like CBS and NBC have already announced their fall lineups, but whether or not any primetime scripted shows across all the networks debut as scheduled remains to be seen as the strike drags on.
“Obviously nobody wants this strike and our thoughts go out to the writers at the moment,” said Fox Entertainment CEO Rob Wade...

Truth be told, short movies are not exactly usually of the genre variety, with the duration of the format essentially forcing filmmakers to follow more art-house paths. Considering, however, that, among the cinema of Asian countries, Korea is the one “in charge” of genre cinema nowadays, it is no surprise that a director from the particular country decided to follow a genre path for his 27-minute short.

A number of flashbacks reveal that her injuries come from her interactions with a man, which is essentially what led her to crime, while the one calling turns out to be her boss, who is quite fed up with her taking his car. The tension mounts,...

According to the official synopsis from Fox, “‘Rescue: Hi Surf’ is an action-packed drama that follows the personal and professional lives of the heavy-water lifeguards who patrol and protect the North Shore of O’ahu—the most famous and dangerous stretch of coastline in the world.”
“Each episode will feature these dedicated, heroic, and adrenaline-seeking first-responders saving lives in the difficult and often life-threatening conditions of Hawaii’s Seven Mile Miracle.” Kester will write the first episode with Wells directing the first two episodes.
“I’ve lived on the North Shore of O‘ahu for most of my life, and these are our heroes, the most extraordinary extreme athletes anywhere,” said Kester.

Taskmaster seems to be one of those magically perfect TV shows, but of course the root of its genius isn’t magic at all: it’s a whip-smart combination of Alex Horne’s original format, the comedic force of nature that is Greg Davies in the role of the Taskmaster, and relentlessly good casting.
As we’ve said before, there’s no such thing as a bad series of Taskmaster, and we’re sure Series 15 will be no different, but until it arrives, what should fans fill their time watching?

Francis Ford Coppola is known for big swings throughout his career, but one of his biggest was filming the adaptations of S.E. Hinton’s “The Outsiders” and “Rumble Fish” back-to-back and releasing them both in 1983 only months apart. The two movies’ filmmaking styles could not possibly be more different, with the lush Technicolor palette of “The Outsiders” giving way to the shadowy, moody black-and-white of “Rumble Fish,” a film so stylish in its look that it became a prototype for indies in years to come.
This is thanks to cinematographer Stephen H. Burum, the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the international cinematography festival EnergaCamerimage in Poland. Burum was on hand after a retrospective screening of “Rumble Fish,” one of many of his films screened throughout festival. (Others range from “St. Elmo’s Fire” to “The Untouchables” to “Hoffa;” he received an Oscar nomination for the latter.) The 82 year-old lenser,...

Never fear, doc lovers — Doc NYC, America’s largest documentary film festival, is not only back for in-person movie-going but also maintaining the hybrid format it embraced during last year’s edition.
As ever, this year’s lineup encompasses a predictably wide range of subjects and stories, including everything from the inspiring tale of an uber-talented female surfer (opening night pick “Maya and the Wave”) to an animated documentary that covers entire centuries of insidious anti-semitic hate (closing night film “The Conspiracy”), plus a Barbara Kopple joint about the need to empower minority communities and a close look at life inside Cirque du Soleil after the early days of pandemic shutdowns.
The 2022 lineup includes more than 110 feature-length documentaries plus more than 100 short film offerings. If that wealth of options sounds daunting, the festival has cleverly assembled its sprawling lineup around a variety of topics. On offer: Themes as diverse as “Celebrity” and “Cities,...

It cannot be overstated just what a massive hit Tim Burton's "Batman" was in 1989. It was an advertising bonanza the world hadn't ever seen before. In terms of cultural ubiquity, "Batman" handily outstripped "Star Wars," and nearly matched the franchise in its merchandising. In one of cinema history's sweetest plum deals, Jack Nicholson — who played the Joker — not only received top billing but cut his own salary to a mere 6 million in exchange for a percentage of the film's merch sales. He ultimately earned about 90 million. The film was made for a budget of 48 million. It earned about 411 million worldwide. That's nearly a billion dollars in 2022.
Given the tone and look of the movie, one might see the overwhelming success of "Batman" as a little odd. Designed after German expressionist films of the 1920s and 1930s, "Batman" was arch and artificial. It was shadowy and tragic. Unlike Richard Donner's "Superman" from 20 years previous,...
